How to Impove PDF Color Printing

Thanks to previous help when my printer went awol and wouldn't print anything from PS, the great suggestion was made here to try PDF. For the small emergency at the time, it workded just great, and I could  print borderless.    However, that was just black/white, and now I have a lovely poster in bright colors that are fine on another printer as long as it's  not borderless or larger  than letter size.
The poster is 11X17 and PDF will do it. A trial print in PDF showed poor colors, much grayer and the intensity of the plan is lost. I don't want to reduce the size or not have it borderless and have to use the other business  printer even though the test colors were just fine. How do I get better color results using PDF?  Thanks so much.....mm

If you want to parse through the PDF data structures and alter their colors you certainly can but there's no magic "invert" function for vector data anywhere. The closest you could come would be to generate an ICC profile that mapped each color to its compliment and tag the document with it, but that would only work if the PDF viewer used the profile correctly.

  • How to Force PDF to Print Only in Black

I have an old HP 932C that's been working fine until recently. It quit printing blue. Bought a new cartridge and there's no difference. I've run the diagnostics for the printer--fairly primitive and no help. I probably need a new one at this point, but right now I need to print out a form I have in PDF. It's got a lot of blue in it and it prints out this sickly pinkish that just won't work. I'm just looking for a way to "force" this PDF to print only in black. Any tips?
Also I'd love to see any advice about trying get this old printer to print blue again. The print nozzles are contained in the cartridges so changing out the color cartridge gets me new nozzles. I've inspected the electrical contact area of the cartridge holder in the printer and it looks fine.
    Thanks,
    Steve M.

Or is there some other software that I am missing or that I could add?
It's not in the printer driver, it's part of the OZS/Colorsync/Quartz... been so long I forget, but...
See if in the Print Dialog you have Print settings & an option for grayscale.
B&W is supposed to be a default filter...

  • How can I disable color print when using airprint?

How can I print from my iPhone or iPad in black and white only, so as to save my color ink?  I am using HP Photosmart 5510.  I can't see how airprint gives that option. Is there an app out there for this?

That is a function of your printer, you can set your printer to be B&W via it's front panel settings.

  • How to improve pdf export/print resolution?

I'm getting very poor pdf resolution even at "best" setting in an export from Pages '09; it looks to be exactly the same low quality as you get with Print>pdf. Has anyone else had this problem, or even better, found a solution? I did reduce the file size of images in the Pages file and am wondering if maybe Pages has reduced the resolution of the whole document. It looks like it is about 72dpi which is, of course, awful! Help, please!

Thanks, I ran that search and 120 or so posts later I'm still not sure. (I know, the answer is in #121...) No matter, I do have a way to retain resolution from large Pages files : Pages>Export as Best PDF>Open PDF in Preview>Save As Photoshop>Open in Photoshop>Save As PDF seems to keep resolution but shrink filesize by about 90% for me, so that's good. I think my mistake here was assuming that shrinking the Pages doc would only reduce image resolution, but I think it has reduced the resolution of the whole file including text, as you've said, which is the problem I'm having. Well, you live and learn. Back to the drawing board, unless someone else has a suggestion!

  • How do I manage color printing to remove magenta cast?

Right now I am working on a Win 7 64 computer and have a Canon MP810 printer.  I read the materials on color management and set my color management in "Print" in Lightroom 4 to "managed by printer".   My printer color management in advanced settings is set all to defaults.  When I print a photo from Lightroom 4, there is a distinct magenta cast to the entire photo, but it's most observable in midtone neutrals.  A burnt out section of a lightbulb goes white, for instance, but greys seem to go pinkish, greens to a rust, etc.  I also printed the same photo from a windows file, using Windows 7 print mode.  That photo seemed to go slightly magenta in the neutrals but not nearly to the same degree.  Can anyone advise me on what I might try or test to see if I can get my print colors more accurate?  Many thanks.

The Canon printer driver installation did install some profiles for various Canon papers.
The ICC profiles installed for the printer appear as follows.
    (1) Printer model name
    (2) Media type:
Each alphabet pair represents its respective Media type.
PR = Photo Paper Pro and Photo Paper Pro II
SP = Photo Paper Plus Glossy
    MP = Matte Photo Paper
SG = Photo Paper Plus Semi-gloss
GL = Photo Paper Plus Glossy II
PT = Photo Paper Pro Platinum
Note: You may not have all of the above profiles depending on your model printer. Please see your user's guide for supported paper types.
    (3) Print quality
The numbers correspond to the numbers on the print quality slide bar in the [Set Print Quality] dialog box opened from the [Print Quality] tab of the driver. The lower the number, the finer the quality.
To turn off ICM in the printer driver select Page Setup in LR (Print module) and then the properties for you printer. In the printer drivers Main Tab select Color Adjustments: Manual, Click on Set and remove the check mark next to Enable ICM. In the same dialog set all sliders to its default of 0.
While on the Main Tab in the printer driver select the correct Media Type, select Print quality Custom, Click on Set and select the Quality according to the profile you intend to use (see above) and select Diffusion.
In LR Color Management in the Print module:
If you don't see any profiles, only Managed by Printer, select Other. In the window opening you will see all printer/paper profiles installed (have Include Display profiles unchecked). Check all profiles that you would like to use from within LR for printing and hit OK. Now select the appropriate profile (see above) you intend to use from the drop down instead of Managed by Printer.
    That's it.

  • Pavilion dv7-4060us Color Printing Problems...

I just bought a new Pavilion dv7-4060us Notebook and am having problems printing in color.  I have a Xerox Phaser 8550DP PS Printer that I'm trying to connect to through a wireless network connection.  I can find the printer on the network and install the "Xerox Phaser 8550DP PS" driver online just fine.  But, after all that, when I try to print, it will only print in Black and White.  For some reason it just will not print in color.  I've looked through all my "printer properties" and it doesn't even show color options!  It's like my computer just doesn't even recognize that the printer can print colors.  Like maybe that printer's driver is for some reason not recognizing it as that actual printer?!
I tried deleting the printer and the driver off my computer and installing it using the printer's original CD, but it says it's not compatible with Windows 7 OS.  But installing the driver via online and using the CD should basically be the same thing shouldn't it?  So that can't be the problem.  The "HP printer help website" doesn't really help at all because it's a Xerox printer and not an HP.  After reading through some forum posts I figured maybe it was a firewall problem, but wouldn't the firewall stop me from printing all together...not just prevent me from printing color?
Has anyone seen this happen before or heard of anything like this happening?  Right when I got the computer I kind of went through and deleted a few things I thought were Crapware, so the only thing I can think of right now is that maybe I accidentally deleted some kind of software program that lets me print color?!  Which doesn't really make any sense, so I don't think that's it.
Also, I know it's not a Windows 7 OS problem or my wireless connection because my brother's computer uses Windows 7 and connects through wireless as well, but his can print color just fine.  He set his computer up like a year ago so he can't remember how he set it all up or what he did, so he's kind of useless.
As of right now the only thing I can think of to do is try posting on this HP help forum and post on the Xerox Printer help forum and see if anyone has any advice for me.  If you have any ideas I'm up for trying anything because I pretty much NEED to be able to print from this computer!!  Any information can help out a lot so just let me know.  Thanks!

I have exactly the same problem with my dv7-4171us, my husband has the same printer and it print fine on my Xerox but mine only prints in black and white, its very frustrating.  I called HP and after 2 hours on the phone they couldnt fix it either.
I'm thinking of doing a full "f11" factory restore.  If anyone knows how to fix the color printing problem please let me know.

  • Urgent! Multiple PDF FORM printing

How to make PDF form print multiple times depending on the amount of lines in the interface table?
For example, as Import we get the table with 5 lines (positions of a document). So we need to print same pdf forms 5 times (data printed will be changing according to the positions data)
    how to make it?
    help please!!!

    Hi Julia,
The Parent Subform should contain only the header part (i.e Column Headers). i.e. all the Static Contents
and the actual repeating data should be inside ur Child Subform. Since u have set the Subform as Repeat Sunform Property in the Child Subform that automatically adds rows dynamically in the form.
    Follow the Hierarchy :-
--> Top Most Subform (Type - Flow Layout, Flow Direction - Western Text)
    > All the Table Headers
    > Parent Subform (Type - Flow Layout, Flow Direction - Table, Allow Page Breaks within Content (checked))
    > Child Subform (Type - Flow Layout, Flow Direction - Table Row, repeat Subform for each data item (checked), Minimum Count - 1)
    > All the Table Row Elements.
Hope u are clear with this now,
    Regards,

  • Colors are printing incorrectly when exported to PDF but print fine from InDeisgn and Photoshop

Documents I create in Photoshop and InDesign and export to PDF print in different/wrong colors. The colors are fine when printed directly from Photoshop or InDesign, they look correct when viewing the PDF, but change when printed from the PDF (specifically blues print as purple). How do I fix this?

This really sounds like a color management issue.
How are you creating the PDF files from InDesign or Photoshop? We recommend using the PDF/X-4 settings for proper printing from Acrobat or any direct PDF RIP/printer.
Also would like to know what type of printer you are printing to.

  • How to export a CMYK document to a black/white or greyscale pdf for print?

Hello, I have some knowledge in graphics design, but very little about color management.
Currently I need to convert an instruction manual I made to black and white output only. We'd prefer to keep the indesign (.indd) and it's source images in their respective colors, but when exporting the document to a pdf my printer can use, we'd like to make that document a black and white pdf, as it's a black/white manual anyway. A little color conversion isn't to bad, as long as it's reasonable. all images that might give trouble are in greyscale anyway.
So how do I export a full color indesign document to a black&white/greyscale pdf?
    ps:
very newb question, but if you don't ask, you never learn:
When do you use the colours "registration", and when do you use "paper"?

I am also trying desperately to convert my CMYK colors into a grayscale so that when I print the document the printer only uses K (and C=0 M=0 Y=0)
And I saw this bit of info you wrote a few months ago. I am working working with photoshop CS4. I tried to follow it but I found the following difficulties. Hope you don't mind me writing over your text.
    RGB image --> Grayscale
New doc --> CMYK image, same size, empty
Copy Grayscale and paste into the K-channel of the CMYK image. - (It only allows me to copy onto the CMYK layer but not onto the Black so I had to Drag layer onto channel delete the black layer and rename my new layer as black but then the document changes from CMYK to Multichannel and I have to re-change the mode again to CMYK but this already prints CMYK...)
    Place image in InDesign doc.
Everything else (vector, text) by K-only.
(...then when I placet that CMYK file into InDesign, and PDF it, on the output preview still separates the grayscale image into CMYK and when I print, the printer still prints CMYK instead of only K)
So then I say OK so.. let's use the Multichannel document instead, which it actually seems to print on K only (while CMY=0), it only allows me to save as PSD. and when I try to place it on Indesign... I have a message saying that this file is using an unsupported colour space, only RGB,CMYK, lab, indexed, and bitmap are supported by the photoshop filter
On top of that I have been asked for a Jpeg image in black and white which prints only K (while CMY=0). I have tried with channel mixed presets and even though the info on screen is now C=0, M=0, Y=0 and K= various values, when I send it to print. The printer still prints with all the CMYK colours
Any advice would be so much appreciated!
    Thank you

  • How to make changes to Adobe PDF (Distiller) printer's printing prefrences programatically?

I want to change the "Default Setting" in the Adobe PDF (Distiller) printer's printing prefrences programatically. How can i do that?

    Why? I don't know :-)
When I compare the documents (single page 'export' vs booklet-spreads 'print booklet') at 800%, the images on the 'export' are crisp. The images on the booklet are seriously pixellated/unreadable.
If it *is* possible to get print-ready, I'd love to!
This is what I'm doing - any help is greatly appreciated.:
    File > Print Booklet.
    Displayed settings:
    Printer: Adobe PDF
    Booklet type: 2-up Saddle Stitch
    Creep: 3mm
Margins: Automatically Adjust to Fit Marks and Bleeds
    Print Blank Printer Spreads
    Click Print Settings:
    General:
    Print Preset: [Custom]
    Printer: Adobe PDF

  • Strange PDF files printing inverted colors!?

I help support an office with several macs. Two of my remote office computers have an odd problem. In Apple Preview PDF files print inverted colors. If I open the PDF in Adobe reader they print normal. They are both trying to print to Samsung ML320 printers. I have yet to find any settings in Preview or in the printer setup that would allow this to happen. For now my fix is to set Adobe reader as the default application for viewing PDF files. Worked until one employee (also running Mac) sent the remote offices a PDF file attached in Apple Mail. Somehow ONLY PDF files from this person force default to Apple Preview. How can a file override system settings to choose it's default app? Strange and again only files coming for this particular mac force a default to Preview app. So it seems these two problems combined are making things difficult here. Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks,
    A.J.

I am still having this issue on a users machine. It is to the point where I may just reimage the whole laptop. The end user went to print a two page PDF from Apple Preview the other day and the first page was inverted and the second was not! How is this possible? The PDF is fine when printed from other machines and again only Apple Preview does this. I can use Adobe PDF reader and it prints normal.

I have an HP deskjet color printer that only prints in black and white from my mac ... how do I get it to print in color

Check the printer itself.  Some printers you need to set the color & B&W settings on the printer itself instead of the Mac.   If that is not the case w/your printer, contact HP tech support and/or post in their forums if they have one.

If you are running Mac OS X 10.7.3 then you have Lion installed, not Snow Leopard. It's probably not important to this discussion, but something you should be aware of.
What application are you printing the PDF files from? Have you tried opening the PDF file using the Preview application that can be found in the Applications folder? Does the issue still occur? Have you tried other PDF files from a different source?
Another poster in the following discussion thread reported that this method resolved their black blank PDF issue when viewing (and presumably printing) PDF files from Safari.

There's a solution if you want to see the PDF inside Safari's window :
Go to the folder : Your Hard Drive / Library / Internet Plug-ins.
If you see a file with PDF in its name drag it to the trash.
Quit and restart Safari to test with a PDF.
If it works you can empty the trash.
