How to install chrome dependencies[SOLVED]

Hello,
Could anyone advise me how to install the chromium browser. When I try to compile it, I run into a nightmare of dependency problems. I need lib32-gconf, then it depends on lib32-orbit2 and on and on and on.
If anyone managed to install chrome on kde 64 bit desktop, please give me a clue about the procedure.
Thanks,
jmak

it is as easy as
yaourt -S chromium-snapshot
Although, there are a number of other versions available. To have a look at them all and decide which one to install you can
yaourt chromium
This will show you all available packages and then you can choose the one you want. After that simply follow the prompts. It will install all the required dependencies for you.

  • How to install missing dependencies?

    I'm trying to install Mailpile (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/mailpile/)
    these are showing as missing dependencies when I "makepkg -s"
    python2-pgpdump
    spambayes>=1.1a6
    I got the above two from AUR and "makepkg -s" successfully and then stuck them in /usr/local/bin but it didn't solve the dependencies.  I'm not sure I know what I'm doing. Anybody know how to get Mailpile installed?

    You did run it on the built package, right? Not on the AUR tarball?
    Like Wormzy said, you really need to read the AUR Wiki page.
    nomorewindows wrote:I don't think you even need --asdeps.  It just installs them as any other package.  Then when they install, makepkg -s the main package.
    These packages are being installed because they are dependencies of another package. For pacman to function correctly, --asdeps is needed. If you omit it, pacman thinks they're explicitly installed and will not remove them when the main package is removed nor list them in -Qdt.

  • [SOLVED] How to properly install optionnal dependencies ?

    Hi,
    As stated in the title, I don't know how to install optionnal dependencies : (let's take an example)
    I noticed that with libva comes two optional dependencies libva-intel-driver and libva-vdpau-driver, and as I have an intel graphic card, I would like to install libva-intel-driver.
    But to keep my package tree quite clean, I would like to install it as a dependency of libva, this way, if someday I want to remove libva, libva-intel-driver will be removed too.
    In the pacman manual, the option --asdeps seems to be useful to install a package as a dependency (but it doesn't seems to need to specify which package it is a dependency for).
    So my question is, does this mean that libva-intel-driver will be removed when I don't need libva anymore ?
    And more generally, how pacman manage dependency ?
    As a matter of fact, I tried to install and then remove libva-intel-driver, but it never said that libva might need it.
    tl;dr : I want to install an optionnal dependencies exactly like a regular dependencies would be installed : how could I do that ?
    Edit:
    the answer is here : https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Us … OptDepends
    Last edited by gravitezero (2012-10-10 12:04:25)

    If you install it with --asdeps, which package it is a dependency for is listed in the packages info file that goes into pacman's database.
    Imagine you have packages A B and C, C is a dependency of both A and B, but for whatever reason you install C first with "--asdeps", then you install A and B.  If you later remove A with "pacman -R A" no dependencies will be removed, but if you use "pacman -Rsn A" A will be removed as will all of it's dependencies that are not needed by any other package.  So in this case C would still not be removed as B still needs it.  If you then "pacman -Rsn B" B and all it's dependencies including C would be removed.
    That is how it works for normal dependencies.  I don't believe optional dependencies have database entries in the "required by" field as they are not required, they are optional.  So if C were only an optional dependency of A and B, it would never be removed by removing A and/or B (AFAIK).
    If you install libva-intel-driver with "--asdeps" then it will likely show up in "pacman -Qdt" output.  If you later install anything that has libva-intel-driver as a regular dependency, then later remove that package with "pacman -Rsn" libva-intel-driver will be taken away with it - it is doubtful you would want this.  So don't install optional dependencies "--asdeps"
    They are optional, you are opting for them, install them normally.
    Alternately, and as a direct answer to your real question, I believe the only way to do with would be to modify the package info of libva to switch libva-intel-driver from optional to regular dependency.  This would be easy to do, but I don't know if it's easy to automate, nor would it survive udates to libva, it'd have to be redone.

  • How to install Google's chrome browser safely on MacBook Pro-retina?

    Hello, I've arrived to a crossway which I need (don't want to) install Google's chrome browser or Firefox on my MacBook Pro.
    Yes, I don't want to, I hate it running on a Mac.
    I know it's the best browsing experience in a 'Chromebook', but in "Rome be a roman",
    After using this amount of money to buy the finest MacBook Pro out there, from some reasons,
    I don't want to install it. I want Safari to be able to run every site, even the main site of my university.
    That's what I expect from Apple.inc. that everything will work!
    I mean, how Chrome and Firefox and even Microsoft's IE, supporting and running those uni. sites, and Safari - DOES NOT ?
    (In case that you want to know about which sites I'm brabbling about,
    here is one for example: http://new.huji.ac.il/en there are section that just don't work via safari.)
    In addition,
    I'd like to know, since I didn't find a good solution, what are the right ways to install Chrome on a MacBook Pro-R,
    and to control all the files (EVERYTHING) that are related to it,  so I'd know where to find them after I use it. (additional same information for using firefox the same way will be more than welcome).
    Thank you,
    Jacob.

  • [SOLVED] How to install and run (on debian) a separate, downlevel version of firefox for the F5/firepass VPN?

    (Note: my problem is similar to [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/931534?e=es&as=aaq another current problem] except that
    * OP is running windows (I'm running a debian linux)
    * OP is asking a more general question (how to fix?) while I'm asking for details on a proposed fix)
    I'm currently running
    $ lsb_release -ds
    Linux Mint Debian Edition
    $ cat /etc/debian_version
    wheezy/sid
    $ uname -rv
    3.2.0-2-amd64 #1 SMP Sun Mar 4 22:48:17 UTC 2012
    $ iceweasel --version
    Mozilla Iceweasel 13.0.1
    I'd like to continue running an uplevel iceweasel ([http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mozilla_Corporation_software_rebranded_by_the_Debian_project which is firefox]) but apparently need to run a downlevel version in order to run a particular vendor-supplied plugin. How best to do that (i.e., with minimal performance degradation, and without affecting my package management)? Or is there another way to solve the general problem (running the F5 Network Access Plugin)? Why I ask:
    My employer is giving me remote access via a SecurID token and the F5 Network Access Plugin (F5NAP). The latter is in fact a browser plugin, which seems to me an odd way to implement a VPN, but it's the only offered option. Unfortunately,
    * the only browsers supported for linux are Firefox 3 and Firefox 8 (per [http://support.f5.com/kb/en-us/products/big-ip_apm/manuals/product/apm_compatibility_matrix_10_2_1.html this]--scroll to "Linux Operating Systems")
    * my primary laptop runs LMDE (see above) with Iceweasel 13 (from the mozilla.debian.net repository), which I want to keep. (It's the uplevel browser, dammit !-)
    So I first tried to install the F5NAP on my iceweasel, hoping it was sufficiently like the listed versions. I browsed to my employer's site, logged in using the token, and followed the link to install the plugin. Unfortunately, that failed: the xpi began running, but then quit with the message
    > F5 Network Access Plugin could not be installed because it is not compatible with Iceweasel 13.0.1
    Hoping for a simple workaround, I told the often-useful User Agent Switcher plugin to emulate Firefox 8, but no fix. Hence it seems like I will hafta
    * install Firefox 3 or Firefox 8
    * run that downlevel browser whenever I want remote access
    * run the uplevel browser for everything else
    This definitely seems like a kludge, so I am open to alternatives. Meanwhile I'm wondering:
    # Which of the F5-supported downlevel browsers (Firefox 3 or Firefox 8) has the smaller memory footprint?
    # How to install the downlevel browser so that it does not interfere with my uplevel browser's configuration, operation, and updating via debian package management?
    # How to run the downlevel browser so that its operation does not interfere with my uplevel browser? I know firefox typically wants to run singleton.

    @[https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/user/160087 verdi]: thanks for your helpful suggestions. The "fix" (actually a kludge, but I gotta work with what F5 and my employer give me) was:
    # Install/run latest Firefox 3 (despite there being [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/932269 no 64-bit version for linux]) using [https://docs.google.com/open?id=0BzDAFHgIxRzKbmJDUGZqTzhfbDg this bash scriptlet].
    # Create a [https://docs.google.com/open?id=0BzDAFHgIxRzKQjRyQndqUTJpRXM run script] to start firefox so that one can
    #* choose the appropriate profile (I was unable to set it from the script without startup error)
    #* run multiple instances (I don't want 3.x firefox touching my uplevel profile)
    # Run Firefox 3.x with the runner, then point it to my employer's site to install the [http://support.f5.com/kb/en-us/products/big-ip_apm/manuals/product/apm_compatibility_matrix_10_2_1.html F5 Network Access Plugin] (restarting firefox as required).
    The gnome-terminal tab from which I invoke the runner spews a bazillion "wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64" errors, but the plugin runs, and I can SSH normally (though more slowly) to servers on the VLAN from another terminal tab.

    How can I update Flash WITHOUT installing Chrome?  I keep getting update messages.  I go throught the download and install process but there is no option to un-check installing Chrome.  I don't want Chrome. I'm not asking for Chrome.  I just want to update Flash.

    There are a few threads around here with this same issue, and as far as I know Adobe has not addressed it adequately.  Many of us, when we are prompted with an update for Flash, are not given the option to opt out of installing google toolbar and google chrome.
    Adobe is playing cute, pretending to be surprised at such reports.  They always demand screenshots of it, and then ignore them when the screenshots are posted. Then demand screenshots in the next thread with the same issue, feigning surprise that such an isue could occur. Sometimes they insist it isnt happening or it is somehow user error (as if it is user error to simply allow the update from their app to install after getting the update message from their app!  )
    The problem , in my case, was that the update goes to a URL that autoselects chrome and toolbar.  I found if I manually edited the URL, that it would not automatically install chrome and toolbar.
    Basically the URL has to be manually edited , so take out the " &a=Google_Toolbar_7.4&a=Google_Chrome_22.0_IE_Browser " at the end AND the "&dualoffer=true&chromedefault=true" bit in the middle.  Then it will give you the opt-out. Then do make sure to uncheck the box, obviously    And it is obvious that the users are not doing this on purpose, this is built into Adobe's updater, somewhere.   I went into a little more detail in   http://forums.adobe.com/message/5274050

    Hi All,

    So could anyone say me step by step how to install it with success and that once I reboot my system you ensure me X starts?
    And a step by step guide in case X does not starts and I need to come back nouveau again and start X normaly without problems.

  • [SOLVED] texlive2k8 -- how to install omega into $HOME?

    Hi folks!
    Because the omega-collection is declared obsolete and therefor no more provided in texlive2008. That's bad, because I used it with tl2k7, and though I appreciate xelatex and cjklatex, I still need lambda very badly. So I want to have it installed it now in $HOME for several reasons:
    * I could probably install it systemwide as root somehow, but I'd like to avoid conflicts with pacman...
    * ...as omega shouldn't be overidden by systemwide tl-package-updates
    * I want to have one specific user make use of it
    * I can 'take it with me' (like the whole $HOME-dir) then so that I mustn't isntall it again, just to copy and rehash it (somehow) after setting up a new linux- or tl-system.
    -- And yes, I haven't any experience yet on how to install external latex-packages, so hence omega is a "collection" makes it even more difficult for me~
    The destination dirs should be ~/.mytexmf (bec. I'd like to have it hidden) and ~/.texlive/*. Therefore I edited /usr/share/texmf/web2c/texmf.cnf like this:
    % TEXMFHOME = ~/texmf % default
    TEXMFHOME = ~/.mytexmf
    TEXMFVAR = ~/.texlive/texmf-var
    TEXMFCONFIG = ~/.texlive/texmf-config
    TEXMF = {$TEXMFCONFIG,$TEXMFVAR,!!$TEXMFHOME,!!$TEXMFSYSCONFIG,!!$TEXMFSYSVAR,!!$TEXMFMAIN,!!$TEXMFLOCAL,!!$TEXMFDIST}
    TEXMFDBS = {!!$TEXMFSYSCONFIG,!!$TEXMFSYSVAR,!!$TEXMFMAIN,!!$TEXMFLOCAL,!!$TEXMFDIST,!!$TEXMFDOC,$TEXMFHOME}
    (I don't know really the meaning of adding !! and if it's necessary here; I read somewhere, that !! makes a directory 'ls-R'-able, but then users tend to forget to update it also and that's why that should be avoided.)
    The first problems arise here, because a $ texhash still returns
    texhash: /usr/share/texmf: directory not writable. Skipping...
    texhash: /usr/share/texmf-config: directory not writable. Skipping...
    texhash: /usr/share/texmf-dist: directory not writable. Skipping...
    texhash: /usr/share/texmf-doc: directory not writable. Skipping...
    texhash: /usr/share/texmf-var: directory not writable. Skipping...
    texhash: Done.
    though the my paths are correct and even the exports included into ~/.bash_profile:
    $ kpsewhich --var-value=TEXMFCONFIG ((aka kpsexpand '$TEXMFCONFIG'...))
    home/myuser/.texlive/texmf-config
    $ kpsewhich --var-value=TEXMFVAR
    /home/myuser/.texlive/texmf-var
    $ kpsewhich --var-value=TEXMFHOME
    home/myuser/.mytexmf
    Next point: The easiest way would be to run tlmgr for instaling the omega-collection, but either it is (still) not existing within the Arch-TL-installation (couldn't figure out that here or find it in AUR) -- or I'm just to stupid to find and to launch it; I also couldn't run it from a mounted texlive2008.iso yet -- but if, how would the iso's-tlmgr know about my installed texlive-system? Nevertheless tlmgr probably wouldn't find the necessary files (though there's some data with 'omega') on the tl2k8-iso, it could install it properly from an external place.
    Then I mounted my old tl2k7.iso and went to the mountpoint for executing $ sh install-pkg.sh --collection=omega, with similar errors:
    /bin/tar: texmf-dist/fonts/afm/public/omega/omseco.afm: cannot execute open: file or directory not found
    /bin/tar: texmf-dist/fonts/afm/public/omega/omsecob.afm: cannot execute open: file or directory not found

    /bin/tar: texmf/tpm/bin-omega.tpm: cannot execute open: file or directory not found
    /bin/tar: texmf/web2c/omega.pool: cannot execute open: not authorized
    /bin/tar: exited because of preceeding errors.

    mktexlsr: Done.
    updmap: config file `updmap.cfg' not found.
    PLEASE RUN texconfig or texconfig-sys to make new formats.
    (texconfig --rehash/texhash [as user or root] didnt't make any difference.)
    I also tar-ed omega
    $ sh install-pkg.sh --package=omega --archive=/home/myuser/.mytexmf/_tl-omega_rc/omega-sty.tar
    and extracted it into the appropriate directories within ~/.texlive and ~/.mytexmf and made symbolic links into /usr/bin for lambda and omega. But again 'of course' texhash (as user or root) didn't show any effect~
    I hope everthing is understandable.
    So how can I install omega/lambda in $HOME via install-scipt or tlmgr (if it exists and I can get it to run)?
    Any hints? -- Thanks very much in advance!

    Well, tlmgr is of course on the mounted iso TL2k8 (just mixed s.th. up~), but it does not start:
    # /mnt/bin/i386-linux/tlmgr
    Can't locate TeXLive/TLPOBJ.pm in @INC (@INC contains: //tlpkg /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.10.0 /usr/share/perl5/site_perl/5.10.0 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl /usr/share/perl5/vendor_perl /usr/share/perl5/vendor_perl /usr/lib/perl5/core_perl /usr/share/perl5/core_perl /usr/lib/perl5/current /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/current .) at /mnt/bin/i386-linux/tlmgr line 33.

    where line 33 is this:
    use TeXLive::TLPOBJ;
    and I don't know what to do here~
    And neither works installing from the mounted TL2k7-iso, even when I try to install omega/lambda into my main texmf:
    # sh install-pkg.sh --collection=omega
    (ignoring dependency on collection collection-basic)
    cat: language.*.dat: file or directory not found.

    PLEASE RUN texconfig or texconfig-sys to make new formats.
    texconfig-sys makes no change. But this is funny because there are several 'updmap.cfg's:
    # locate updmap.cfg
    /home/myuser/.mytexmf/home/myuser/.texlive/texmf-config/web2c/updmap.cfg
    /usr/share/man/man5/updmap.cfg.5
    /usr/share/texmf/web2c/updmap.cfg
    /usr/share/texmf-config/web2c/updmap.cfg
    (and I wonder why this directories and files indeed exist~:
    /home/myuser/.mytexmf/home/myuser/.texlive/texmf-config/web2c/updmap.cfg
    I ran mktexlsr in my specific directories in HOME again though i don't know if this is really necessary, with the same result: these directories are not recognized, only those in /usr/share...
    Tried then
    # fmtutil --byfmt lambda
    # fmtutil --byfmt omega
    but with no output.
    Edits from my /usr/share/texmf/web2c/texmf.cnf:
