How to invoke object in a javascript function

hi,
i have created an object in html. i need to call a function on the click of a button. This function needs to invoke the html object.
Kindly help me if anyone knows how to do this or if there is any other method to do it.

There's no difference between functions and objects in Javascript.Can you give something like a function pointer (or object or whatsoever) to a function as an argument in Javascript then?
Rant: in C, there are real function pointers:
void qsort ( void * base, size_t num, size_t size, int ( * comparator ) ( const void *, const void * ) );In Java, we have interfaces and we can give as an argument to a method an instance of a type implemnting a given interface. Which method will be invoked depends on the tun-time type of the object, thus we have something instead of a function pointer.

  • How to use a Session object in a Javascript function

    I have an object that I have set in my session.
    On my jsp I want to pull it out of my session and use it as a parameter for a javascript function. But I am not sure how to do that... the function call is below... I want to assign a value to ifFormat (last variable in function) But I am not sure what to use inside javascript.
    <script type="text/javascript">
         Calendar.setup({inputField:"f_date_dfFirstPmtDate",
                                              button:"f_trigger_dfFirstPmtDate",
                                             singleClick:true,
                                              ifFormat:XXXXX});
    </script>

    Note that javascript runs on the client side, and JSP runs on the server. JSP and the session objects are NOT available to javascript in reaction to the user.
    If this function is called only when the page is first created, not when the user interacts with the page, or if you want that value to be constant with respect to the javascript, then you can do this:
    <%
      String someValue = (String)session.getAttribute("theAttributeName");
    %>
    <script type="text/javascript">
         Calendar.setup({inputField:"f_date_dfFirstPmtDate",
                                              button:"f_trigger_dfFirstPmtDate",
                                             singleClick:true,
                                              ifFormat:<%=someVale%>});
    </script>

  • Using a request scope object in a javascript function

    Hello,
    is there a way to obtain a reference to a request scope attribute in a javascript function?
    or after using <jsp:useBean id="myBean" ...>, how do I pass the "myBean" object to a javascript fuction?
    Thanks for any help.
    E-

    ok, thanks...this is working for a string property of a bean... but I get an 'invalid character' error when I want to create an actual reference to the bean object itself.
    here is the jist of what I need to get working... myBean has a property 'listItems' that is a Vector of listBeans.
    function buildList() {
    var myBean = <%=request.getAttribute("mybean")%> ;
    // get referenence to the Vector property listItems
    var list = myBean.getListItems();
    // now I want to iterate the list and use the properties of the list beans
    for (x = 0 ; x < list.size() ; x++ ) {
    var listBean = list[x];
    var foo = listBean.getFoo();
    // need to use foo to populate a hierarchical list
    can I do this in JavaScript??? do I need to cast the classes to the variables?

  • How to use request.setAttribute in javascript function.

    Here is my scenario.
    I am storing all open windows handles in the array( javascript ).
    I want to send this array to the servlet for which I need to do
    request.setAttribute("jsArray", windowArray);
    I am getting all kinds of errors while writing above statement in the javascript function.
    Here is my code:
    function save_javascript_array(){
    <% request.setAttribute("jsArray", %> + winArray + <% ); %>
    document.forms[0].action="/NASApp/inv/AuditServlet";
    document.forms[0].submit();
    Thanks in advance.

    try something like this:
    crate a JavaScript function that set a form parameter with the values contained in the array, for example make a string containing all elements of the array separated by colon (,):
    function save_javascript_array()
    var data;
    data = '';
    for( var i=0;i<winArray.length;i++ )
    data = data + winArray[i] + ',';
    document.forms[0].handles.value = data;
    document.forms[0].action="/NASApp/inv/AuditServlet";
    document.forms[0].submit();
    you must have a form like this:
    <form ...>
    <input type="hidden" name="handles">
    </form>
    Now in the servlet you must retirve the parameter called "handles" and iterate over the string:
    StringTokenizer tok = new StringTokenizer( request.getParameter("handles"),"," );
    while( tok.hasMoreElements() )
    String handle = tok.nextToken( );
    // do something with this handle...
    The code above may be different (I don't remember the names of the methods os StringTokenizer) and I don't known much about JavaScript (e.i. how to iterate over a array and how to concatenate each element in the array)

  • How to get value stored in  javascript function and display in a JSP

    i am doing a questionaire which is for user to input data in every question, After user input the data, a javascript function will be called to do some score calculation. Since each question will carry its final score after the calculation by the javascript function, so i use an array to store those scores and then display those scores in the same page.
    However, i have to make a confirmation page to display both data and calculated score in another jsp, i only know how to display the data as it is a textfield that i can get the value by "request.getParameter("textfield1"); but i dun know how to get those scores as they are stored in an array in the javascript function, what way i can do??

    thank you for all your help!
    I have chosen to set the score value to the hidden field when every time run the function
    <script language="javascript">
    function cal(index){
    var thisForm = document.MC;
    thisForm.score1.value=score[index];//set value to the hidden field
    </script>
    <input type="hidden" name="score1" value="">
    <input type="hidden" name="score2" value="">
    <input type="hidden" name="score3" value="">
    The function will calculate only one score when every time being called. So that i can only assign one score to one hidden value at a time.
    e.g, assign score[1] to thisForm.score1.value
    assign score[2] to thisForm.score2.value
    assign score[3] to thisForm.score3.value
    how can i do this??

    According to your post, my understanding is that you want to hide/show list columns based on specify the permission for Users, SharePoint Groups or Active Directory Groups.

  • How to invoke the "loading data" javascript

    Hi
    I would like to be able to reuse the piece of code which performs the 'loading data' meter in flash charts.
    I would like to enable the same 'loading data' behaviour for sql reports which takes some seconds to execute.
    I guess it is a piece of javascript? But I'm not able to locate it.
    Any ideas?
    Best regards, Jesper

    Hi Guido
    Thanks - but no really.
    My application makes heavily use of the new excellent flash charts and besides that a lot of sql reports.
    I want the 'loading data' meter to appear exactly the same for both flash charts and sql reports.
    I know how to make a meter, but the one from the flash charts looks very nice, and I want to apply that to the sql reports too.
    Best regards

    I don't know of a way to invoke a javascript function from outside the PDF. Adobe LiveCycle Forms
    (Form Server) gives you the ability to extract form data from a submitted form. You should
    investigate this option.

  • JavaScript Function to validate an item's value

    Can somebody please tell me how to write a Javascript Function that, upon losing focus on a text item, checks if the value just entered is a 6 digit number?
    Please show me the function and what the onblur command in the item would be. The name of the item is P21_PERMIT_NUMBER.
    BTW, this can't be done in a Validation, since it must be done onblur, which does not submit the page.
    Also, if there already is an onKeyPress for this item, what do I do? Do I just put a comma after the onKeyPress command and write the onblur command after it?
    Thanks.

    Prohan,
    Take a look at the following link to see how to do validation within a javascript function: Re: Implementing in-field validation the simple way.

  • Passing JSP into JavaScript function

    I have a database table containing a date for the end of an auction, I am able to successfully take the date from the database but I am having problems passing it and casting it to a date object within a javascript function. The purpose of the function is to begin a countdown to the passed in date. Any suggestions? The countdown function i have only works with a hard coded date object.

    Looks like everyone's having a countdown problem.....
    The script in this thread is awefully like in this one:http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=45&thread=514095&tstart=0&trange=15
    Anyway, there're what you can do. Write out the Date object in JSP as a Javascript Date, two ways to achieve that:
    1, mydate.getTimeStamp() is should return a long value, time in millisec, so
    var mDate = new Date(<%= myDate.getTimeStamp()%>);
    2. a lil messy, use DateFormatter to format the sql.Date, this gives you a Date in Strint form. Do remember the exact API for the DataFormater, but something like this.
    var mDate = new Date("<%= DateFormatter.format(myDate) %>");
    I'd prefer the 1st approach, why changing a Date to String then just change to Date again....Also watch out the TimeZone stuff and Daylight saving time....have fun.

  • How to reference JavaScript functions stored in a script object on a different page?

    Hi,
    I have a form which has 2 pages. I have a bunch of JavaScript functions under script objects on page 1. How can I access these functions from page 2?
    I tried the following but none of it work:
    form1.page2.#variables[0].testScript.doThisNow();
    form1.page2.variables[0].testScript.doThisNow();
    form1.page2.variables.testScript.doThisNow();
    Please help.

    Hi,
    Simplest way would be to drag the script object to be under the root node (form1). On both pages would would then be able to reference the function by:
    testScript.doThisNow();
    If you leave the script object under page1, then from page2, the following should work:
    page1.testScript.doThisNow();
    Hope that helps,
    Niall

  • How to invoke  javascript function after business action??

    How to call javascript function(such as "window.close(), window.open(...),...") in the action method(public String doBusiness(){...}) of <h:commandButton>?If not,then,is there any alternate approach to call javascript function when the bussiness action method finished??
    Thanks a lot!

    Since your business method is called after the form is submitted, and your code is running on the server, probably the only thing you can do is this:
    Create a custom component (Maybe call it the "onLoad" component) that you always render at the top of your JSP. In the regular situation it wouldn't render anything, but in the case you mention, after your busines method, you would call a method on this new component on the server that would cause it to actually render something the next time it is rendered. When rendered this time, it could then render the "onLoad" method which has your window.close() code in it. The window would then close right away.
    The key is that you are not doing any of this on the client. The form is submitted, your business logic is executed, then the next page is rendered. When the next page is rendered, your javascript could be rendered to close the window.
    If I'm offbase here, someone please say something, I'd hate to send this guy on a wild goose chase.

  • How to invoke JavaScript for Premiere Pro CC?

    Hi,
    I am new to Adobe CC products/scripting and I'm trying to control Adobe Premiere Pro CC from another desktop application. Using ExtendScript Toolkit, from its UI, I can invoke JavaScript commands or files.
    But I can't find any way for my desktop application to invoke JavaScript commands. I can't seem to find any command line tool for it (no documentation either and JavaScript doesn't seem to be officially supported). Any help regarding this would be greatly appreciated.
    I tried using the Socket object on a .jsx file to act as a server (to listen for commands from my desktop application) and placing it on the common startup script folder. But the start up script blocks the UI of the Premiere Pro application entirely (even if I use "$.sleep(milliseconds)" function in between  the "poll" function for acquiring a connection). This wouldn't work for my application as I can't block the UI.
    For After After Effects CC, I can use the "afterfx.exe" on Windows and AppleScript with "DoScript" command on Mac, to execute JavaScript expressions or files. But this doesn't seem to work with Premiere Pro or any Adobe CC products. For Photoshop, I can just open any .jsx file with Photoshop (for e.g. "Open With") and it runs the .jsx file. But this technique doesn't work with all the other Adobe CC products (even the ones which support JavaScript officially).
    According to Adobe Premiere Pro developer centre, there is no mention of any JavaScript support. But since the functionality does seem to be there (as discovered through ExtendScript Toolkit), I am hoping I can get away just by using JavaScript commands to control Premiere, as opposed to using the native SDK for Plugins. However, I really hope Adobe Premiere Pro folks are seeing this and they officially support JavaScript soon .
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi all,
    Any help? Seems that the general Adobe Premiere forum is a lot more active in terms of responses. That is why I originally kept in the general forum at first.
    Due to the lack of documentation, I ended up spending even more time just to figure out how to invoke Premiere Pro with a JavaScript file, from the command line. But no luck still . Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.
