How to List files in a directory into an Array

Does anyone know of the best way to load all of the files in a specified directory into an array. (not going into sub directories either).
I was to be able to do something like this.... (pseudo)
String directory = "C:\";
String [] theList;
do
get next file name;
add to theList;
}while(!End of Directory)
Done.

    public static void main(String args[]) {
     String directory = "C:\\";
     File dir = new File(directory);
     File [] theList = dir.listFiles();
     for(File file : theList)
         if(!file.isDirectory() && !file.isFile())
          System.out.println(file.getName());
     }This will list every item in the coot of C:\ that is not a file or a directory. Change the if statement to fit your needs.

  • Listing files of a directory

    I have a block non single record and each record must receive the file name of a directory.
    Does anybody know how can i list files of a directory? Is there any object or package i've got to use?
    Thanks for attemption.

    Is the directory a single directory that your db server has access to? if so you can use a bit of java (in the db), pl/sql and sql to list the files in the given directory in a temporary table, then you can query that table to show in your form.
    Should be able to google a solution by searching on "oracle dirlist" or let me know and I can post what I used here.

  • I need to upload my files from one directory into other directory.

    i need to upload my files from one directory into other directory.( all its contents,folders,sub folders, files etc)
    for this task
    suppose my source folder is C:/test/test1/test2/test3
    and my destination is D:/
    first i have to check whether my dest dirctory already contains source directory..and its files
    if it contains the same structure then i have to replace the destination dir structure to source dir structure( to upadte changes)
    if it(dest dir) not contains source dir ..means it doesn't contain source folder then
    i have to create same source folder directory structure ( test.test1/test2/test3...) at destination(D:/) and copy all its contents frm source directory...
    ( means i don;t want to create manually same dir structure as source at destnation dir to copy all contents)

    I believe you need to read up on the class File.java (it comes with java).
    Some examples:
    File file = new File("C:/myDirectory");
    if(file.isDirectory())
    System.out.println("this is a directory");
    if(file.isFile())
    System.out.println("this is a file").
    You will then need to read up on other classes to read/write to the file such as FileReader and FileWriter.

  • How to get input from keyboard scanner into an array

    This is probably a very basic question but I'm very new to java..
    My task is to reverse a string of five digits which have been entered using keyboard scanner.
    E.g. - Entered number - 45896
    Output - 69854
    I used the StringBuffer(inputString).reverse() command for this, but i need a more basic method to do this.
    I thought of defining an array of 5
    int[] array = new int [5];
    and then using,
    Scanner scan = new Scanner(System.in);
    to enter the numbers. But I can't figure out how to get the five input numbers into the array.
    If I can do this I can print the array in reverse order to get my result.
    Any other simple method is also welcome.

    Hey thanks for the quick reply,
    But how can I assign the whole five digit number into the array at once without asking to enter numbers separately?
    E.g. - if entered number is 65789
    Assign digits into positions,
    anArray [0] = 6;
    anArray [1] = 5;
    anArray [2] = 7;
    anArray [3] = 8;
    anArray [4] = 9;
    I'm really sorry but I am very new to the whole subject.

  • How to list files that are NOT in a .jar file?

    Is it possible to list files (resources, .gif/.jpg files, etc.) that are NOT included in the jar but are still to be considered part of the application somewhere in the jnlp-file?
    My applications requires lots of icons which I have put into .gif files. So far I kept them in individual files next to the .jar file and that worked fine.
    JWS now seems to support only stuff that is included in (a) .jar-file(s). That in itself woul not be much of a problem, however, when I include my .gif files into the .jar files they seem to get corrupted by the jar-signing process (at least that what's the code says, which can suddenly not handle these images any more).

    My previous seem to have been non-sense. The .gif file were not corrupted, but rather they were not found at all. They actually must NOT be included in the .jar file, or else they are not found. Strange enough, the .properties-file seemingly HAS to be in the .jar file to be found.
    This is something I'll probably never fully understand with java: which file-types it searches where...

  • How to pick files from ECC directory

    Hi All,
    I have to pick files from the directory of ECC. can anyone tell me how to configure the sender File apapter? Can i use NFS for the same?
    Regards,
    Lavanya R

    Hi Lavanya,
    With my knowledge two ways to pick the file from ECC using File adapter.
    1. If you use NFS, mount point should be created in ECC for the Directory to access from PI.
    2. If you use FTP, FTP ports must be opened between PI and ECC.

  • How to capture files in a directory

    I would like to use LabVIEW be able to browse to a desired directory and click a button that would grab all filenames of VIs in that directory (and subdirectories if a checkbox is selected) and place all those filenames into an array.  I know how to do portions of this, but I'm not sure how to grab all the filenames.  Can anyone offer suggestions?

    The listbox function is perfect for this. If you have either 0 or more items or 1 or more items as the Selection Mode, then it will return an array that you can use with the Index Array function and the Item Names property node to get the selected values.

  • CS4 - How to list files in order in 'Files view'

    Hi,
    I have numerous websites but some of them do not list the folders/pages order in the file view.
    Normally I have the folders at the top followed by the pages as per screen shot 1.
    I have tried refreshing the folder but no joy and I have gone to the master folder with the website and listed the files as 'details' as per my ok websites but still does not work.
    Any suggestions please.
    Thank you.
    Steve
    Screen shot 1 - CORRECT
    Screen shot 2 - COMPLETE MESS

    That second one is likely correct, listing files alphabetically by size.
    Clicking the heading "Local Files" should fix it.
    EDIT: If you click the Expand button in the files tab, it will give you more headings you can sort your files by...
    Local Files (alphabetical), Size, Type, Modified (date) and Checked Out By are the default possibilities.

  • How to import files with static variables into a block with methods?

    i have a problem. is it possible to import files with static variables into tags like
    <%!
    //here i want to import a file named settings.inc

    private void method() {
    private void method2() {
    %>
    <%@include file="xy"%>//dosnt work above
    //only in <%%>tag

    This should be done using either the Properties class or ResourceBundle. Ex.
    <%

    String username = resBun.getString("username");
    String password = resBun.getString("password");
    // etc

  • How to put 58 columns of data into an array in one shot?

    I have a set of data with 58 columns and 5000 rows. However, I need to find offset for all the elements in this 5000x58 set of data. Is there an easier way to put all the data (offset) into an array in one shot other than using build array function? This is because if I use the build array function, I will need to separate all the data into 58 columns by indexing them. This is too time consuming.
    Thanks for the suggestion! Have a good day!

    You need to explain in much more detail, because your problem is not clear.
    Is this a 2D array with 58 columns and 5000 rows?
    What is your definition of "offset"?
    Where does the offset value come from?
    Is "offset" it the same for each row (or column) or does it depend on the data?
    What is the definition of "one shot"?
    Why would you need to seperate all the data into columns in order to use build array?
    It it "too time consuming" to write the program or is the execution slower than expected?
    Is the final output a 1D or 2D array or something else?
    Please attach a VI containing a small 2D array diagram constant with typical data, then show us what kind of output you would expect after applying the described operation.

  • How can i list file in a directory ?

    my goal is to list all JPG and GIF image in current directory (containing also my .class)
    if tried
    try {
    File tmp = new File("PhotoDisplayer.class");
    String[] m_images = tmp.list();
    catch (Exception ex) {
    ex.printStackTrace();
    but i always get m_images to null
    thanks by advance,
    marvinrouge

    First of all, you need your file object to represent a directory and not a file.
    Look up File.listFiles() in the api documentation. It returns an array of File objects.
    Something like:
    String pathSeperator = System.getProperty("path.separator");
    File tmp = new File("path"+pathSeparator+"to"+pathSeparator+"directory");
    File[] dirContent = tmp.listFiles();
    for(int i=0;i<dirContent.length;i++) {
    System.out.println(dirContent.getName());
