How to make a menu in Canvas?

I have just succeded to make my first Canvas window. What do I need to make a little menu (still using canvas), like a text with the label "Press me" and when the user press the button, a new form is beeing set?
Any tutorials?

Hi!
Thanks, the super(false) made the keyPressed(int keyCode) method working.
But I still don´t get the getKeyStates() working in my own method pressedKey(), it still prints "RIGHT", "UP" etc many times. I also tried the code example you made a link to, but it didn´t even print anything when I pressed UP, DOWN, LEFT and RIGHT. My pressedKey() method is called from a thread that is started from the constructor. So it shouldn´t loop since it´s not in the paint() method.
Here is the whole code:
import java.io.*;
import javax.microedition.lcdui.*;
import javax.microedition.lcdui.game.*;
import java.util.*;
class WelcomeCanvas extends GameCanvas implements Runnable
     private Image splashScreen = Image.createImage("/welcome.png");
     private Sprite splashScreenSprite;
     private LayerManager layerManager;
    public WelcomeCanvas() throws IOException
          super(false);
          setFullScreenMode(true);
          layerManager = new LayerManager();
          int x = getWidth();
          int y = getWidth();
          layerManager.setViewWindow(0, 0, x, y);
          Thread t = new Thread(this);
          t.start();
    public void run()
          Graphics g = getGraphics();
          displaySplashScreen();
          layerManager.paint(g,0,0);
          g.setColor(0,255,255);
          g.fillRect(10, 210, 120, 15);
          g.fillRect(10, 230, 120, 15);
          pressedKey();
          flushGraphics();
     public void pressedKey()
          while(true)
               int keys = getKeyStates();
               if ((keys & KEY_NUM8 ) != 0)
                    System.out.println("LEFT");
               if ((keys & RIGHT_PRESSED) != 0)
                    System.out.println("RIGHT");
               if ((keys & UP_PRESSED) != 0)
                    System.out.println("UP");
               if ((keys & DOWN_PRESSED) != 0)
                    System.out.println("DOWN");
               flushGraphics();
    public void displaySplashScreen()
          splashScreenSprite = new Sprite(splashScreen, 240, 320);
          splashScreenSprite.setPosition(0,0);
          splashScreenSprite.defineReferencePixel(0,0);
          layerManager.insert(splashScreenSprite, 0);
}EDIT
It works if I add the below code in the while loop:
try
     t.sleep( 150 );
catch(InterruptedException err)
     System.out.println(err.getMessage());
}So, I have to stop the thread after each press?
Which method is really the best:
* keyPressed(int keyCode) --> the overridden method
* pressedKey() --> My own method using getKeyStates()
A third question: I also want to change the the screen to a new GameGanvas. What is the easiest way to do this? My MIDlet class sets the first GameCavas screen as current, but if I want to change the screen, do I have to call the setCurrent() method in my MIDlet class or can I do it in my first GameCanvas class?

    I want to make a dvd menu in iMovie because i don't have IDVD and can't find anywhere to download it?
    For making DVDs I would recommend iMovie 06 and iDVD 09 both readily available on Amazon or eBay.  Shop for iLife 06 and iLife 09.
    You can make menus and chapters with any version of iMovie except the latest one. There's nothing wrong with iMovie 11 either but I prefer iMovie 06.
    By using iMovie 06 and iDVD 09 I make DVDs with professional moving menus with very little effort. They look almost as good as Hollywood.

  • How to make a menu (opened by an on click event) stay open on the following pages

    Hi,
    I have a side menu that shows the main headings only, when clicked it displays the rest of the menu using and slide effect, with an option to close the menu, on reversing the slide. This all works perfectly but what i want to be able to do is, when a users opens a menu and then uses that menu to navigate to another page, on that new page i want that menu that was opened to stay open on this next page.
    The code i have so far is below:
    // the function for the effect
    function MM_effectBlind(targetElement, duration, from, to, toggle)
        Spry.Effect.DoBlind(targetElement, {duration: duration, from: from, to: to, toggle: toggle});
    // the function to ensure the menu is unopened on page load
    function myFuncDisplay (){
    document.getElementById ('menu1').style.display='none';
    document.getElementById ('menu2').style.display='none';
    document.getElementById ('menu3').style.display='none';
    document.getElementById ('menu4').style.display='none';
    document.getElementById ('menu5').style.display='none';
    <body onload="myFuncDisplay ();">
    // the first menus code in the side menu that creates the on click and close menu actions
    <p onclick="MM_effectBlind('menu1', 1000, '0%', '100%', false)"  onMouseOver="this.style.color='#FFFFFF';" onMouseOut="this.style.color='#333333';">Menu One </p>
        <div id="menu1">
              <p class="close" onclick="MM_effectBlind('menu1', 1000, '100%', '0%', false); " onMouseOver=" this.style.color='#333333';" onMouseOut="this.style.color='#FFFFFF';"> close menu </p>
            <p><a href="firstLink.php">First Link</a></p>
            <p><a href="secondLink.php">Second Link</a></p>
            <p><a href="thirdLink.php">Third Link</a></p>
    I have tried setting a variable in the on click event then in the function myFuncDisplay() doing if else clauses to check if the variable was set and if so displaying the div as block in that function, expecting just that menu to display opened in sunsequent pages, it didn't work, itstead it displayed all menus open?
    Please can someone help me with a suggestion of how I can make this work, thank you in advance, i look forward to any replies.

    Hi,
    thanks for your reply, i am not actually using the spry menu, i am using the 'blind' effectthat I have adapted as per the code given, I wanted to make a menu that would open on click and the effect i have used works well, now  however I want the effect to remain open on different pages, as explained. i am looking for a way of adapting the function that makes the rest of the menu hidden on page load. So on page load the menu is hidden as per adapted code, apart from the menu heading, if the menu heading is clicked the menu opens, with an option to close it, if the user clicks on a link in the menu the new pages loads and the menu is   closed as per the onload instruction , I want a way to distinguish if the menu was clicked in one page it will recognise that and in the next page will not hide that particular menu until the user closes it themselves.
    Hope that makes it a bit clearer? look forward to any further help.

  • How to make a menu for MHP

    Hi, im trying to make a menu for mhp app, and i dont know what its the best 'tactic' for this.
    My idea is to make own class like this:
    class Menu extends HContainer
         private Font fuente;
         private Color colorLetra, colorFondoTexto, colorFondo;
         private HTextButton[] boton;
         int x, y, ancho, largo;
         // numVisible es el nmero de valores que queremos se puedan ver en el men al mismo tiempo
         // x, y es para que nos indique el punto inicial donde queremos que aparezca el men
         // ancho para saber el ancho del menu
         // largo para saber el largo que debe tener - debe relacionarse con el nmero de elementos a mostrar en pantalla
         public Menu(String[][] matriz, int x, int y, int ancho, int largo, int tamFuente)
              this.setBounds(x,y,ancho, largo);
              this.setVisible(true);
              colorLetra = Color.white;
              colorFondoTexto = Color.green;
              System.out.println("longitud de la matriz:"+ matriz.length);
              fuente = new Font("Tiresias", 1, tamFuente);
              int esp = 0;
              boton = new HTextButton[matriz.length];
              System.out.println("A ver si veo el elemento de la matriz: "+ matriz[5][1]);
              for (int i = 0; (i < matriz.length) ; i++){
                   System.out.println("for " +i);
                   // A ARREGLAR
                   boton[i] = new HTextButton(matriz[1], 0, esp, 314, 20, fuente, colorLetra, colorFondo, new HDefaultTextLayoutManager());
                   esp = esp + 20;
                   if ((i != 0) & (i != matriz.length-1)){
                        boton[i].setFocusTraversal(boton[i-1], boton[i+1], boton[i], boton[i]);
                   else if (i == 0)
                        boton[i].setFocusTraversal(boton[i], boton[i+1], boton[i], boton[i]);
                   else boton[i].setFocusTraversal(boton[i-1], boton[i], boton[i], boton[i]);
                   this.add(boton[i]);

  • How to make a menu at the top of the page move to the left when scrolling?

    I have a menu on the top of the page on a sidebar-sort. I was wondering how you could make it move to the left, not until the scrollbar reaches the end of the page, but when I say so. If i put the key position under the menu, it disappears. If i put it at the top of the page, my only choice is to use the Final motion, but that one moves until the scrollbar ends. So how can I do it?

    Hi Raphael,
    Please refer to this screen shot - http://prntscr.com/42weie
    You need to set the initial motion to zero and specify the key position to the scroll point, where you would like to begin the scrolling from.

  • How to make a menu bar made is flash cs5 go to an html page

    so i am making a website in Dreamweaver cs5 and i am going to be importing a .swf animation for the menu bar i made in Flash. how do i make an action in Flash direct to a page of my website in Dreamweaver for example the index.html file of my web page.
    right now i have an actions layer with a stop(); command on the last frame of the animation i want to add a command under that, that will take the user to the index.html page of my website when the button is clicked. I have the button already made as well as the animation all i am missing is the code to go to the index.html page.

    in ActionSscript 2 it would be something like:
    myButton.onRelease = function(){
      getURL("http://mywebsite.dk", "_parent");
    in AactionScript 3.0 it would be something like:
    myButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, onButtonClick, false, 0, true);
    function onButtonClick(e:MouseEvent):void
      var url:String = "http://mywebsite.dk";
      var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest(url);
      navigateToURL(request);
    See if some of that, does the trick for you.

  • How to make dropdown menu selection create more text fields?

    I did some searching and am unable to find an answer for this. It could be because I don't know the name of what I'm trying to do (I'm a total LiveCycle Designer noob). I tried to find guides but they seem to be for newer versions of Designer (I'm using 8.2) so I'll ask here:
    I'd like specific text fields to appear after a pulldown menu option is selected (empty fields w/ the captions already filled in). How can I go about doing this?

  • How to make Spry menu and submenu backgrounds different

    Hi all. I have a horizontal spry menu bar, and i'm using a gradient image for the background of the main menu, but I want the submenu to just be a solid color. I figure i should just be able to use css for this solid BG, but I can create an image no problem if need be. I just think it looks unprofessional to have multiple segments of a horizontal gradient stacked vertically. I know this is possible, the second to last example on this link demonstrates but doesn't explain:
    http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/samples/menubar/MenuBarSample.html
    I would greatly appreciate any available help on this subject!  Thanks again!

    The idea with putting the new styles *after* the original styles is that they are logically similar to but 'sub' styles to existing styles. In fact, you could probably put them way at the bottom, but if you wanted to edit them you might not find them again easily. I was trying to keep similar style rules together.

  • How to make main menu start at loop point when you link back to it?

    I have a main menu with a an intro, after the intro I have put a loop point.

    English is not my native language (I used Wikipedia to understand RTFM !!!).
    I used to copy&paste some lines from the manuals when a post can be answered directly that way (why to write it again if it's well written there?).
    This is my "last upgrade": I uploaded some captured images from the manual to use easier in this kind of frequent questions. I like to show that the information was right there in the manual . . . but I really find the expression RTFM a little hard !

  • How to make a menu for HD content (not BD)

    I am a newbie on this forum and I am not sure where to post: I am a middle-aged woman with blond (grey) hair (**** happens) BUT I have been 'playing around' with computers since 1977. I have been editing video and audio since the 90's and mainly as a hobby I have made 100+ productions for f.i. tourist boards on DVD and BD. But now I am stuck: I know I am making some sort of mistake in thinking and I am asking you to help me to sleep again at night!
    I have been uploading all my productions to a NAS and want to be able to show them every now and then, not the whole video but by chapter. With the DVD's that is no problem: the menu's stay as they are but with the BD it is a different story. My media players (Mede8er and Eminent) do not play the menu's but start the playback at the largest .mts, because they are not able (money wise) to communicate with JAVA.
    I am looking for software that will make it possible to create (simple) menu's for HD content . I still have alle the original content and the software to make all kind of formats, both on PC and Mac, but I can not find anything on the net to help me !!! And of course I want to keep the HD quality! The only thing I have managed so far is making chapters with MKVtoolnix, but that is not to my liking.
    There must be something I am overlooking: Apple is skipping all optical disks in favor of HDD's, but I can not imagine that there is no possibility to create some sort of menu structure?
    Any help will be appreciated!

    This is all way beyond me, but couldn't you just make an HTML page that linked to the video files on your server and use a browser?

  • How to make a menu in IMovie
