How to make buttons display in correct location

Hi, I am trying to adapt a dreamweaver template. I have to
place a set of buttons to the left of the design. If I place my
buttons in a new layer over an existing cell, I can get it all to
look fine in the WYSIWYG editor, but on f12 preview in browser the
buttons are completely in the wrong place. Would really welcome any
pointers to solving this ... Thank you. As you have probably
guessed I am new to dreamweaver...

Being new to Dreamweaver is of no consequence, but being new
to HTML and CSS
is critical. DW will punish you badly if you have no
familiarity with HTML
and CSS. Please take the time to study these techniques
before getting
yourself too frustrated.
We cannot answer any layout question without seeing your
code, really. But
from this -

places the
elements ABSOLUTELY on the screen - they stay in exactly that
location no
matter what else happens on the page. It sounds like you have
some other
centering elements on the page that are moving away from the
placement of
the buttons when you actually render the page in the browser.
It's
situations like this that cause us to try to tell people that
a) there is no
such thing as WYSIWYG, and b) using DW without understanding
the underlying
code will likely be a failure.
The solution to your problem will be one of the following -
a) don't use absolutely positioned elements to hold your
buttons - place
them in a container that follows the normal flow of the page
instead
b) wrap the page in a relatively positioned, centering
container so that
when the container centers, it carries the absolutely
positioned elements
along with it

Just to add a little on what Gerd said, for web deployed forms your icon files must be of type .gif
You cannot have .ico files in web deployed forms

If you're using client/server technology, you also specify the UI_ICON registry and put your icons under that directory. In client server you can use .ico files

The window displaying bookmarks is too large (suddenly happened with the new version). I can't figure out how to make the display smaller. Zooming out does not work on the bookmark menu display.

I have version 4, just downloaded, and a Mac w. OS 10.6. 7.
The bookmarks display (when I pull down "bookmarks") is much too wide. I can't figure out how to reduce the display size. The window is not persistent so I can't even get you a screen shot.

It seems there was a change in Firefox 4 where the width of the drop-down is now determined by the length the longest bookmark name in the folder being displayed. Previous versions of Firefox would shorten a long name like that and add an ellipsis to signify the name was truncated.
Sorry, I don't know how to change that other than to advise you to edit the name of that long bookmark name and make it less verbose. Just scroll down the list of bookmarks in that wide folder until you see the culprit, then right-click that bookmark and open Properties & edit the Name line at the top of that dialog.

How to make iTunes detect the new location of music files?

Hi everyone. I moved all of my music to a different location on my hard drive, and I changed the location in iTunes preferences, but it doesn't seem to detect this, so my library is empty now. I saved an itl, xml, and temp file as well, but I don't know what to do from here.
I also tried dragging the new music folder onto the "Library" entry in iTunes, and this added everything, but I no longer have my ratings, playlists or anything like that.
Is there some other way to have iTunes detect the new location? And can I get back my ratings and playlists?

iTunes doesn't use file names to determine how music appears in your library, Rather, it uses metadata that is split between:
data elements that are embedded within the media files
data elements that are included in the entries in the iTunes database
No amount of reorganization, renaming or other manipulation at the file level will make any difference to how songs will appear in iTunes. Using your example:
the value of the track number element is 1
the value of the artist element is "Elvis Presley"
the value of the song name element is "Blue Suede Shoes"
Depending on how you configure iTunes then the file name is either:
completely independent of iTunes (i.,e., the file containing this song could be xyz.mp3)
dependent on the metadata managed by iTunes, (i.e., when you have these two options set:
then iTunes will set the file name to be 1-01 Blue Suede Shoes.mp3 where:
the file is in a folder called "Elvis Presley" (the name of the album)
that folder is in one called "Elvis Presley" (the name of the artist) which is in iTunes Media\Music
Going back to your question "How to make iTunes read the song's name/singer from the file's name" the answer is simple - you can't, as this is not how iTunes works. There are some third-party utilities that you can use to set some metadata element values based on parsing of file names which might be a useful first step. However, to use iTunes effectively you should really forget about / ignore file names - manage your media using appropriate metadata and allow iTunes to look after file names behind the scenes.

How to make my display be the main view with my mac Book Pro

How to set up my external display automatically work as the main display when plugged into my MacBook Pro. I had it set up to work this way on my old MBP but I got a new MBP with Mountian Lion and the Display set up seen different and I can figure out how to make my Apple HD display (about 3 years old) be the main display when I turn on my MBP. Mirror is off when I look at
System pref’s – Display – Arrangement I just get to pick which display is left and right. I cant remember how it was set up on my old MBP. Mirroring does me no good. Any help will do!!!

How to make buttons enabled after the data is entered in JTextField?

I got a JTextField. I want to test the entered data in JTextField is eight length. If the data is of length eight then i want to enable two buttons. How to make it enable? I am getting the length eight, but the buttons are not enable. What listeners I have to use.

Create a class that extends KeyAdapter. Add a field that is an array of buttons. Override the keyTyped(KeyEvent e) method to use getSource() to access the text area, check the length of the text, and if > 8, go through the array and enable the buttons in the array. Then, when you create the text area, create an instance of your listener, passing it an array of the two buttons you want to enable, and then use addKeyListener(yourKeyListener) to add your key listener to the text area.

How to make jcombobox display all by itlself?

Hello all -
Is there a way to make a jcombobox object display its column of items implicitly?
For example, suppose a program has a combobox filled up with names. And, suppose the first item says "toggle sort", which affects how the items are sorted in the combobox (eg, pressing it should cause the list to sort the displayed names based on first name, another press bases the sort on the last name...). The behavior I am aiming for is that when the user presses the "toggle sort" item, the combobox displays its items again awaiting further selection from the user (but not the first item). Know how to fire such an event?

HOW TO: Make Buttons that appear to Fade up and Down

How would you do this?
I looking for a series of buttons appear to fade up on mouse
over and fade back down on mouse out, on click goto to scene (got
that working).
How should I structure this. Tried really hard to make this
work but getting know where.
Should I Trigger a movie clip if so what's the code to play a
movie that's behind the button? (I've got the button with just a
hit state so it's transparent).
For info I am a designer and would describe my knowledge as
pretty good on making non interactive flash.
But interactive, next to zero action, script next to zero. I
can make a button goto to scene, frame, use stop but that's it!
I'm using CS3 but with with Actionscript 1.0 2.0. as 3.0 too
much for me right now!
Is this easy or hard?

How to make buttons work in drop down movieclip in flash???

      I am trying to make an index page with buttons for a photography site. the entire page is built in flash so far. My question is that I have created a drop down menu that is a Movieclip with 5 buttons. I can not seem to assign an external web page to each buttons that are under the movie clip drop down menu.   Is this a possible??   The Movie clip is run by mouse-over the word "studio Gallery" button. This drops down the 5 gallerbuttons (Portrait, children, wedding, Artistic Babies, etc...). In Flash 8 Pro I know I can assign an external web page named children on the main page but how do I assign these to the buttons in the drop down once the movieclip is made. Is this where I need to use folders with extra layers in the folder to make it work??
In case you can not tell I am new to this and have been teaching my self with "Training from the Source" and also "Visual Quickstart Guide" so go easy on me 8-)

with the google search.   I still have one nagging problem, I get an

Other than the difference of onrelease to on (rollOver) I see no reason
for this error
        The clip works but when the mouse rolls out it does not close
the dropdown menu I have included the drop down file here also.   I will
be using this to add the resulting "swf" file to the area on my larger
fla to get the menues working but I don't want the menu to stay open
once someone rolls over it if they want to goto an other spot on the page.
I'm 53 yrs old and can not afford much more Hair pulling I will be bald
if the little stuff wins....

What you should do is search Google using "AS2 drop down tutorial". That should produce a few results that you can use to guide you thru the process.
I cannot tell clearly from your description so far, but it sounds like your movieclip contains the buttons and has a rollover assigned to it. That rollover will block interaction with the buttons. So your best bet is to get a hold of a tutorial that will walk you thru the process so that you can get your buttons working the way you want.

How to make JComboBox display an item not in list?

i'd like a gui component which is basically a jcombobox that presents a list A,B,C,D.
The combobox is paired with another gui component which allows choosing sets of items. A etc.. represent preselected sets of items, so the user can click on A and a particular set would be selected.
My problem is what to have the JComboBox do when the user selects a set of items that is not in the preselected defaults list. It would be nice to have the JComboBox just say "Other" at the top or something, but I can't figure out a way of doing this without putting the String "Other" in the list of items..
does anyone have any idea of how to approach this? (I looked at making the JComboBox editable but this seems a little complicated?)

Your best option and cleanest design is to have a
dummy data item in your list for "none of the above". thanks for the reply - this is what I'm doing at the moment. The problem is that I'm expecting testers to legitimately complain that selecting "None of the above" doesn't do anything, and doesn't really make sense ( it could make a random selection :o) )
i think i agree that adding functionality to do this "properly" is likely to be more work/pain than its worth..
Only an editable combobox can display something not in the list.this might help - if I could block mouse clicks to the editable area, and write to it programmatically but think this is probably quite difficult (?)

Hi,
Please note that in FBV0, workflow will get triggered automatically the moment you park/complete the document and as per the settings done in the Workflow Variant. There will not be any separate button to release a Workflow because it is automatic and gets triggered based on Events defined in it.
