How to make Hierarkchy variable in BW 3.5?

Dear collegues,
I have five profit center hierarchies that I want to create identical reports on. The user should be able to first choose which hierarchy he wants to see, and then the node of the chosen hierarchy.
Is this possible? Can anyone explain me how?

Hi Bob,
Thank you so much for the answer!
I did what you said, and then used a normal hierarchy node variable on each of the hierarchies under Profit center.
When I run the report I can choose between all of the profit center hierarchies. I choose one of them and fill in other variable fields (year, period) and try to run the report. But I get an error message instead (read under). I am able to run the report for a bottom node (an actual profit center) but not for the top node (folder) or other folder nodes. The top manager needs to see result for one whole hierarchy, f.ex. How can I fix this?
Regards Silje
Diagnosis
Characteristic value Z000FO-TOTAL (my chosen hierarchy) is not valid for variable profit (my hierarchy node variable).
Procedure
Enter a valid value for the characteristic. Use the input help to view possible values. If no information is available here, it is possible that no characteristic values exist for the characteristic.
Check that the hiererarchies used for this characteristic are valid if:
the variable for 0DATE or 0CALDAY has been created and
it is being used as the key date for a hierarchy
This also applies to variables that relate to the hierarchy version.

  • How to make a variable:

    I am trying to figure out how to make a variable:
    Ex.  I have two fields  feildA  and fieldB
    I want fieldA to be dependant on fieldB
    if  fieldB is  1  then fieldA is 25
    These are all the other variables
    1 = 25
    2 = 30
    3 = 40
    4 = 50
    5 = 65
    6 = 75
    7 = 85
    8 = 95
    9 = 105
    10 =115
    Thanks!!  CJ

    One way is to set up field A as a calculated field, using a script like the following:
    // Calculate script for field A
    (function () {
        // Set up object to associate values
        var vals = {
            1: 25,
            2: 30,
            3: 40,
            4: 50,
            5: 65,
            6: 75,
            7: 85,
            8: 95,
            9: 105,
            10: 115
        // Get value of field B
        var v = getField("fieldB").value;
        // Set this field's value based on the value of field B
        if (typeof vals[v] !== "undefined") {
            event.value = vals[v];
        } else {
            // If corresponding value is not present, blank this field
            event.value = "";
    Replace "fieldB" in the code with the actual name of the field you're using.
    You could also use similar code in the Validate event of field B to set the value of field A.

  • How to make a variable global to use in all of my cfm page?

    I have a problem with the variables.
    i need to use a variable  " loginrecord" in all of my cfm pages, its created in my login.cfm and the value of this needed in other page and maybe i need to change it .
    in ASP simply we can use SESSION to make a variable global , is there any way in coldfusion ?
    also in ASP we have a command SESSION.SESSIONID ,  so return the unique number from browser and we can se it as a security check for each one of people login to our site and each one is seperate random and unique number , is there any similar in coldfusion ?
    Thanks
    Alireza

    Thanks,
    the reason at the moment i stock with this command is i need to have login information available in all the pages to check the security. the good point i had in ASP is SESSION.SESSIONID   , it make a unique number base on browser and i can check it if user loged in or no , or if loged in is the same user or other user . i couldnt find same command in coldfusion , and now i use <cflogin> but if i can find the way to have a browser session it help me in other part of my program.
    i start coldfusion new ( near a month ) i have some book and Lynda DVDs, also online sources , and in this priod i re developed one of my program from ASP to coldfusion and its work. i am happy of this and help me to develop better and faster . in compare the coldfusion developed one realy is 40% original development in size and 50% faster . i have good background of ASP in last 8 years include MCSD and developed many program for a small and big companies. but i wanna to continue with coldfusion because i found it more helpfull than ASP specialy in FLASH development .
    BTW thanks for your help

    Hi Lee,
    Its very much possible for 2 portals to make use of one datasource for UME.
    Lets assume for a scenario sake we are using an LDAP server as the UME for portals environment...so you would simple need to point for the UME's to the LDAP datasource.
    If you have something in particular do post back

  • How do I make a variable path in AppleScript?

    I'm mass distributing an application, and for the next update I want to add customization. My application currently make a folder in the "Documents" folder. The folder is called "MCL_CONFIG". What I need to do is make a unicode text file in "MCL_CONFIG". Since it's going to be used on many different computers the path to where I'm making the new file has to change depending on the user. How can I make a variable path to a non-directory? Here's the section of my code with the problem:
    tell application "Finder"
        if folder MCLConfig exists then
        else
            display dialog "Welcome to Mc Launcher! You will only recieve this message once, unless you delete the MCL_CONFIG folder." buttons {"Ok"} default button 1
            make new folder at New_User with properties {name:"MCL_CONFIG"}
        end if
    end tell
    It's not shown but I set the variable MCLCONFIG to (path to documents folder from user domain) & "MCL_CONFIG" as text.
    As a side note how do I make the code look like it does in applescript, here?

    You can do something like:
    set supportFolder to ((path to application support from user domain) as text)
    set appName to "My Spiffy App"
    set subFolder to "MCL_CONFIG"
    tell application "Finder" -- add application support folders if needed
      if not (exists folder (supportFolder & appName)) then
        make new folder at folder supportFolder with properties {name:appName}
        make new folder at result with properties {name:subFolder}
      end if
    end tell
    Edit: it is recommended that the folder in Application Support be named with your application's bundle identifier, but most just use the application name.

  • How to make use of the presentation variable in SQL result query

    To populate the values for Prompt2, I need to execute a query using the presenation variable set by Prompt1.
    SELECT "List Of Values".RID from rocketv2_3 WHERE "List Of Values".NAME='COMPONENT' AND "List Of Values".VAL=@{selected_comp}
    the query is resulting into
    SQL Issued: SELECT "List Of Values".RID from rocketv2_3 WHERE "List Of Values".NAME='COMPONENT' AND "List Of Values".VAL=0
    but the value in selected_comp is "ABC".
    Can anybody help in how to make use of the presentation variable in query to get the correct value

    Just use constrain check box to filter your 2nd prompt values based on the 1st prompt.

  • How to make a Java program that recognises a function of two variables...

    How to make a Java program that recognises a function of two variables to assign values to that?
    First I will give an example and then do the question.
    Ex1.
    We have any function, eg.y = x ^ 2 + 1 (read 'y' equals 'x' high to the square), a function of the second degree.
    To build the graph of this function attach values to 'x' to find the values of 'y'
    And thus mount the pair ordered (x, y) which represents a point on the Cartesian plane.
    Assigning values to 'x' 'we can build up a table that gives us the pairs ordered:
    We can use any numbers, but arfer interval [-3.3]
    X | y = x ^ 2 + 1
    -3 | Y = (-3) ^ 2 +1 = 10
    -2 | Y = (-2) ^ 2 +1 = 5
    -1 | Y = (-1) ^ 2 +1 = 2
    0 | y = (0) ^ 2 +1 = 1
    1 | y = (1) ^ 2 +1 = 2
    2 | y = (2) ^ 2 +1 = 5
    3 | y = (3) ^ 2 +1 = 10
    We then ordered the pairs:
    (-3.10), (-2.5); (-1.2), (0,1), (1,2), (2,5), (3,10)
    Tabem that can be represented by a table:
    X | y
    -3 | Y = 10
    -2 | Y = 5
    -1 | Y = 2
    0 | y = 1
    1 | y = 2
    2 | y = 5
    3 | y = 10
    Now I begin to explain my doubts.
    See this program:
    Ex2
    * To change this template, choose Tools | Templates
    * And open the template in the editor.
    Encontrando_o_valor_de_y package;
    * @ Author des Soldat Gottes
    Import javax.swing.JOptionPane;
    Public class (Main
    * @ Param args the command line arguments
    Public static void main (String [] args) (
    Int x, y;
    String x1;
    X1 = JOptionPane.showInputDialog ( "We have the function y = x + 1 \ n" +
    "Assign a value for 'x',"); / / receives a value for the function y = x + 1
    X = Integer.parseInt (x1); / / tranforma String in int
    Y = x + 1; / / receives the value of 'x' and calculates' y '
    JOptionPane.showMessageDialog (null, "The value of 'y' is: \ t \ t" + y);
    / / Displays the value of 'y'
    System.exit (0);
    We see that the program receives above a value for 'x' and replaces the function contained in the program, y = x + 1, and so is the value of the variable 'y'.
    In: x1 = JOptionPane.showInputDialog ( "We have the function y = x + 1 \ n" +
    "Assign a value for 'x',");
    The entry is a number and that number is assigned aa ja existing function in the (y = x + 1).
    The question is: would it be possible to come to a function?
    Ex: the program ask: DIGITE THE FUNCTION?
    The USUARIO DIGITARIA A FUNCTION ANY, TYPE: y = x ^ 2 +1
    The program would recognize the function and give numerical values to that function as Ex1, at the beginning of this text.
    And then to find the values of the x and y launch a table.
    It would be possible that?
    By invez of entering with a number so that the program sustitua a function ja existing as Ex2, seen above, entering with a function quaquer (type: y = x ^ 2 +1) for the program atribuisse values to that function and then create a table of values as Ex1.
    I hope it has been easier to understand my doubts now.
    Thank you for your attention!
    God bless!

    Thanks for the explanation, could understand what fly said.
    But as it applied to a program?
    How to create a program that recognizes that the entry coefficients?Are you asking about how to parse out the coefficients from the string "3x^4 + 4x^3 - 8x^2 + 5x^1 + 2x^0"? If you define the format to strictly follow that example, this should get you started:
    Strip out the spaces
    Split the String on "x^"
    That should give you [3, 4+4, 3-8, 2+5, 1+2, 0]
    Split each resulting String on "+ | -", preserving the operator as a token so you can apply the correct sign to the coeff.
    That should leave you with [3, 4, +, 4, 3, -, 8, 2, +, 5, 1, +, 2, 0]. Every other number is a coeff, the rest are the degrees.
    You can strip out the +, since those coeffs are already positive, and strip out the - after negating the following number. This is all assuming that you have to write this yourself. There is no doubt already a library or 5 out there that does this for you.

  • How to make a IBOutlet associated with a variable in Xcode

    Hi, I want to make a IBOutlet in Xcode 5.0.2 that is accosiated with a variable, bascially, what I'm trying to achieve is to make it so that I have a textfield and then take the value of that string of that textfield and store it into a variable, then pass it onto a calculation action. A very basic calculator, how can I do this?
    And also, how would you make a variable (I think I know how but I'm not sure)? I used @property (*paramaters*) *thisIsAnExample;

    Alas, it isn't quite as simple as that. This is Xcode, not Borland Delphi circa 1999 (ouch!). Create a property for the value:
    @property (strong) NSString * value;
    And then create a binding for the IB object's "value" property to the value key path.
    You would use an IBOutlet like so:
    @property (strong) IBOutlet NSTextField * field;
    in order to refer to the IB object from your code. Use the binding to allow the IB object to access the property in your code.

  • How to make the assignment of a AW variable perminent(Java API+DMLcommands)

    hi,
    i want to modify the analytical workspace.
    i called the dml commmands from java AW api.
    the program is working fine.but i can not see the result.
    i assigned a AW variable with some data by useing DML command
    but after closing the program i unable to get the assigned value from the variable
    i checked by using AW WORK SHEET.
    any one can help me how to make that assignment perminent
    my code is like this
    AWconnection.executeCommand("v_variable=value");

    Hi,
    I have just rephrased the question to make it clear.
    I am working with Jdeveloper and BI beans. We are using Java Analytical workspace API for connecting and saving the user input as Analytical workspace Variable (which will be later used for running the AW Programs). The part of the code looks like below.
    awConn.executeCommand("V_NII_SIM=50");
    awConn.executeCommand("update");
    awConn.executeCommand("commit");
    Despite doing the UPDATE and COMMIT to the analytic workspace, the change is not getting appplied to the AW. i.e After the execution of this program, when I checked the value of the variable V_NII_SIM in the OLAP worksheet (of AWM), then it is not reflecting the new value (50).
    OLAP> show V_NII_SIM
    100.0
    The above command in OLAP worksheet returns the old value of 100 but not the one set by my program.
    Would appreciate your help on this.

    The video clip is a single screen capture video clip. This is what I've found by playing around with this more.
    The original clip resolution is greater than 640x480. If I use QT Pro to convert the original clip to 640x480 and then use either Flip4Mac or PE7, then the resolution looks good.
    Just trying to figure out if should keep all workflow on the MacOS side. There are several different version of Flip4Mac. $49 gives me 640x480, but if I ever want to make it slightly larger then I would need to go with the $99 or HD version.
    I also tried to export to AVI with QT Pro and the import with Windows MovieMaker but it didn't work really good. I liked the simplicity (since PE7 hogs a lot of resources especially through VMWare).

  • How to make variables optional in void e.g void NAME([optional Var1]) { ..

    hi i wanna know if it's possible to make a void or function with optional parameters e.g
    void Something(String Variable1){
             if(!Variable1) .......
    }is there a way to make the variables optional which means the user can vall the above void by either of
    Somthing("TEXT");
    or Something();

    You can just overload methods in Java.
    See http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/java/javaOO/methods.html
    By the way, capitalizing variable names is considered bad practice.

    I'm afraid not.    It's not rocket science but you need to do some coding.
    You'll need to find a script (php) and save it to your local site folder.  Then reference the script in your form's action attribute like so.
         <form action="path/form-to-email-script.php" >
    The input fields in your HTML form need to exactly match the script variables.
    I'm  assuming you're hosted on a Linux server which uses PHP code.  Linux servers are also case sensitive, so upper case names are not the same as lower case names.  It's usually best to use all lower case names in your form and script to avoid confusion.
