How to make the new tabs to open the same URL as the startup page?

Hello!
I was wondering if it's possible to configure the Firefox in such a way that the new tabs open exactly the same URL that is typed in the Options. I tried to set browser.newtab.url to about:home but it gives me Firefox Google custom page instead of the startup page that I've set in the Options. Another way I tried is to set the browser.newtab.url value in about:config to the same URL as the startup page URL, but then if I change the URL in the options the new tab URL is not changed. So the question is whether it's possible to make the Firefox read the URL that is used for the startup page and go there when opening a new tab.

A new tab is opening when I click anything on a page. Options that should open within the same window are opening in a new tab. How do I fix this?

I am currently using 16.0.2. I just did the update a day or two ago. Suddenly today, when I click anything on the page, it opens in a new tab. How do I stop new tabs from opening - all I want is one window that I can click back and forth on the page history

I do not want multiple windows or multiple tabs. In older Firefox versions just one window could be set, using the page history to go backwards or forwards. How do you disable new tabs or new windows from automatically opening in firefox 7?

How to I get new tabs to open to the correct home page?

When I open new tabs they just go to a Google Search page, which is very frustrating, especially when I open a new tab and try to type in the URL bar but as soon as it finishes loading Google it blanks out what I typed in and goes to the Google site. In other words, "blank" new tabs do not open to the Favorites page or even my home page. They open to Google. How do I change that? In other words, how do I get new tabs to stop opening to Google and start opening to either my home page or the Favorites screen? Thanks!

I like the feature of the PDF being opened on the new tab on firefox browser windows. But the newer version (3.6 or 4.0) will automatically open PDF in a pop up adobe apps. How do I keep the PDF open on the new tab as before? thank you

When clicking CTRL+Link my new tab opens in the background window, instead of the foreground window I'm using. Is there a way to make this work the way it used to, where the new tab always opens in whatever window I was currently using?

I use a web based software for work. I go to a web page listing all employees as links (Window A). When I click an employee link a new window opens (Window B). Window B contains links, i.e. Add Client, Change Address, Change Phone Number, Change Name, Upload Photo, etc... When I hold CTRL and left click the links in Window B, the new tab opens in Window A. I don't understand why this has changed, as I've been using this method to open new tabs in my current window in both of the previous versions of Firefox.

To give you an example of what I'm speaking, I found this page that recreates the scenario.

2. Click the GO in the center of the box on their page (This creates a pop-up window with links to other programming pages)
3. CTRL+left click any of those links. The page opens in the background/original window, not the pop up window where you are currently working. And, with your solution takes me back to that window and the new tab.

If there is a "battle of the add-ons" about which one will control the new tab, you probably need to remove the one you don't want.
Most add-ons can be disabled or removed here:

If there is a disable button but no remove button, then you usually can use the Windows control panel to remove it. (Assuming you're on Windows.)

You can simply middle-click the home button to open the home page in a new tab, or you can install one of the many extensions that let you tweak what the new tab opens. Two add-ons mentioned by Tony E. are NewTabURL or New Tab Homepage.
Also, whenever you open the new tab, you can just click on the home icon. That is what I do.

Set the pref browser.tabs.insertRelatedAfterCurrent to false on the about:config page.
To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website. 
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.

How to prevent a new tab from openning

Hmm, sounds like an add-on. Here is my suggested procedure for finding and removing bad add-ons. This is based on the unfortunate fact that many bad add-ons arrive as part of a free software download rather than something you installed intentionally from the add-ons site.
(1) Open the Windows '''Control Panel''', Uninstall a Program. After the list loads, click the "Installed on" column heading to group the infections, I mean, additions, by date. This can help in smoking out undisclosed bundle items that snuck in with some software you agreed to install. Take out as much trash as possible here.
(2) Open Firefox's '''Add-ons page''' using either:
* Ctrl+Shift+a
* "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click '''Plugins'''. Set nonessential and unrecognized plugins to "Never Activate".

This is a hidden setting. You get to take a peek into Firefox's world of "preferences."
