How to manage ports

Dear members,
My release is open Solaris b103
1- How to know the opening port in my system
2- How to open a specific port like port 53
3- How to closed the specific port like port 53

The question is a bit confused.
Ports are opened by applications. So if you are running an application that listens on that port, its open.
If you don't want the port open, don't run the application.
Port 53 is DNS. The easiest way to find this is "grep 53 /etc/services".
So if your running service dns/server then the port will be open..
To close it "svcadm disable dns/server"

  • How to manage port 80 hosts via gateway - gateway vpn (rv220w)

  • How can I manage ports from terminal?

I'm trying to troubleshoot some issues i've been having using ssh with my two laptops. I'm getting a port 22 error and I would like to establish a customized setting that doesn't involve opening up these popular ports like 22. I'm trying to diagonse these problems every way I can but if I new how to manage this from the command line it would make things so easier. I would like to know how to open, close, view status, etc. of ports. Can anyone help?

There aren't any utilities to directly control ports because ports are a logical construct, they don't really exist.  There are programming constructs to control ports, which are used inside programs to associate a server to a port and register that association with the OS.
For most programs, there are configuration files that can be edited to change various program parameters, including to what port the server listens.
SSH has configuration files for both the server and the client, at both the system and user profile levels.
You'd be better off giving more detail about what issues you are having.  You might also (or additionally) try running your SSH commands with the -v, -vv, -vvv or -vvvv switches, which will cause increasing levels of verbosity to be printed to stdout...which can be very useful for troubleshooting.

  • Firewall in 10.5, how to open ports and how to manage?

I am pulling my hair out with the new firewall in 10.5. In 10.4 I could just set ports as I liked in the control panel, in 10.5 there is no such thing.
I need to for example open port 49999 to allow PageSender to function in my network.
I need to open port 5901 to work with JollyFast VNC, as port 5900 is used by Apple Remote Desktop and the conflict if they both use the same port.
Some of these ports I need permanent open like 59999 and others for one session and than close again, like 5901. Again in 10.4 I made the rule in the pref pane, ticked the box and Bob was your uncle. Now?
I would like to be able to see what ports are open and active on the machine. I have no idea as to where I could see this.
And at the same time I would like to keep the firewall as closed as possible as I am often on line in hotels etc.
So I need help, is there a manual somewhere someone is aware of? Or do you have any answers?

The new Application Firewall does not work in the same way as IPFW (the main firewall in 10.4).
Instead of managing ports, it simply controls the access of applications to any port. Thus, if you want PageSender to receive connections, you simply need to switch the firewall to "Set access for specific services and applications", and then add PageSender to the list, with "Allow incoming connections". When you do this, PageSender will be able to receive connections on any port that it needs to.
If you don't like this method of controlling connections, you can still use IPFW. Apple has removed the GUI, but you can download a GUI application like [NoobProof|http://www.hanynet.com/noobproof> or [WaterRoof|http://www.hanynet.com/waterroof/index.html], and you can then set access for specific ports.
There are no problems with using both IPFW and Application Firewall.
    Cheers,
    Rodney

  • E4200 How to close port 139 ?

So finally that my e4200 is capable of disabling wps i run in to another question.
    how to close ports 139 445 ?
these are open by default and i didnt figure out how to close them, in browser setup..
and YES port 139 IS a security issue. people denying this, are the same, that denied any vulnearibilties to wps.

Well, in the router set up we can only open the port for any specific application. But there is no way in the router management page where we can close any specific ports for specific purpose.

  • Management port on CSS 11150

I have a simple question. Can someone tell me how to access the management port on the css 11150?
I configured the ip and mask on the management port and condigured my laptop for a ip on the same network. But i am unable to connect.

what do you mean by connect ?
Are you trying telnet or HTTP ?
Are you able to ping ?
Is the interface showing up ?
Try 10Mb Half duplex set manually and see if it works.
Also, did you reboot the CSS after configuring the ip address/mask for the management interface ?

  • CSC-SSM Default Management Port...

Does anyone know how to change this port from it's default of 8443?
Please let me know, it's urgent!
    Thanks,
    Eddie

Even i went through the doc again and again. And the only one reference i seem to notice is this :
    1. Network Settings
    2. Date/Time Settings
    3. Product Information
    4. Service Status
    5. Change Password for Command Line Interface
    6. Restore Factory Default Settings
    7. Troubleshooting Tools
    8. Reset Management Port Access Control List
    9. Ping
    10. Exit ...
    The 8th point.
    Reset Management Port Access Control
Choose option 8 to reset the management port access control list. The following appears:
Resetting management port access control list: OK
    Press Enter to continue ...
If the ASDM is unable to communication with the SSM, try resetting port access via this option
But even that doesn't explain if we could change the port. I have a CSC to configure next week, wish i had this box looks fun to play with.

  • 7304 nse100 FE Management Port configuration question

How can the F0/0 FE Management Port be used? Since the 7304 has a redundant NSE100 prossesor card I would like to use this port two ways as a remote router access port for management and as a standard FastEthernet interface. Is configuration and advertising of the interface IP address the same as standard FastEthernet interfaces?

The FastEthernet port on the Cisco 7304 is for management purposes only. Any other use of the FastEthernet port is not supported. This statement is according to the configuration notes of 7304.So, it cannot be used as a standard GE port.

How to change / check the baud rate, parity, and stop bits of the serial management port.

    Thanks,

be carefull that the cable for console access is different from any other Cisco device. So, if your cable works for a Cisco router or a Cisco switch, than this is the wrong cable for the CSS.
If you search www.cisco.com for 'css console pinouts' you should find the right settings.

  • Management Port

    Hi,
I have got ASA 5520. How to use the management port as a normal port on ASA. What are the basic reqirements for that.
    Regards,
    - Mero

    Hello,
The managment port under regular circunstances will look like this:
    interface Management0/0
    shutdown
    no nameif
    no security-level
    no ip address
    management-only
As you can see the only difference between a regular traffic port and the managment port is the management-only keyword.
So in order to use it as a regular port all you need to do is :
    ciscoasa(config)# interface management 0/0
    ciscoasa(config-if)# no management-only
And it will look now just like all the other ports,
    interface Management0/0
    shutdown
    no nameif
    no security-level
    no ip address
Hope this helps, any other question let me know!!

  • How to change port for deployed web application on IAS10g(from 7778 to 80)

I have deployed an application on IAS Application Server. The default link to my application is:
    http:/my_sever_ip_address:7778/my_app
Can any one tell me how to change the port that my_app run on from 7778 to 80.
So that the link to my_app will be:
http:/my_sever_ip_address/my_app (run on default port 80)
    Very urgent!
    Thx

You need to read the Oracle® Application Server 10g Administrator's Guide of your installation, which is also available online. In particular, for 9.0.4, you need to read the chapter Managing ports. Basically you need to change your web-cache listener port if web-cache is installed; otherwise you need to change Oracle HTTP Server Port.
Also note tht port 80 requires extra steps since it is a restricted port.

  • Management port for management switch(2960x) / IP default-gateway for L2 management switch

    1)
I am going to connect all mgmt ports of server to this access switch (L2; 2960x) like below. Then I have a management port in 2960x (FastEthernet / L3 port). As you can see below, even though one of Core switch is down, I am able to access through the other Core switch for mgmt SW. Do I need this FastEthernet port of 2960X?
Core Pri -------  Core Sec   (Core Pri 192.168.1.2 / Sec 192.168.1.3 / HSRP VIP 192.168.1.1)
mgmt SW ----- (FastEthernet0) ------ Goes to where? I don't have RAS (Remote Access Server)

    2) From server side, server put default gateway (192.168.0.1) so if destination is not known, it dumps all to default gateway. This is L3. I understand this. What about L2 default gateway from switch itself? The L2 access switch supports "ip default-gateway" command. I know that without this command still servers do not have any problems to connect to network. Then this command is for switch (2960x) itself? i.e I log into the switch and ping google.com then switch will try to resolve through DNS, but if DNS is not set up in the switch, it sends all traffic to "ip default-gateway"? Is it right?
    3) If L2 (Access) switch has multiple data vlans and mgmt vlan (10.0.0.0/24  10.0.10.0/24 192.168.0.1). Then what will be the "ip default-gateway" for this switch?
Thanks for your time and knowledge.
======================== Reference from Cisco regarding ip default-gateway --------------------------------------
How to configure the ip default-gateway command on a Cisco 3550 series switch
    VERSION 2
    Resolution
To define a default gateway when IP routing is disabled, issue the ip default-gateway global configuration command. Then, enter the IP address of the next-hop router interface that is directly connected to the switch where a  default gateway is being configured.
The default gateway receives IP packets with unresolved destination IP addresses from the switch. Once the default gateway is configured, the switch has connectivity to the remote networks with which a host needs to communicate.
Note: When the switch is configured to route with IP, it does not need to have a default gateway set.
For more information, refer to Assigning the Switch IP Address and Default Gateway.
