How to migrate reports from Development QA Production environment

Hello,
we have 3 Oracle Discoverer 10.1.2.3 environments and I would like to know what is the correct way to migrate reports from DEV to QA and to PROD.
I'm researching about this by a couple of days and didn't find anything handy.
The most likely way that I found was to export the entire EUL from one environment to another with the eulapi with a command line like that:
exporting:
eulapi -connect DEVUSER/pass@orcl -eul DEVUSER -export exp_all.eex -all
importing using [ -import_rename_mode refresh ]:
eulapi -connect QA_USER/pass@orcl -eul QA_USER -import exp_all.eex -identifier -import_rename_mode refresh -log imp.log
That would work.
However if the developer delete some object from the DEV environment and then import in the QA environment the deleted object won't be deleted from the QA environment and after some time the QA and PROD environment would be a mess.
Another way that I figured out was to drop the eul from the PROD environment and then import all over. That would solve the problem but It has a lot of risks.
Thanks in Advance,
Jonas Zanon

Hi,
I think the best approach is to export the EUL components (e.g. business areas, folders, hierarchies, workbooks etc) separately from your development environment and hold these in a change management system. You can then import the components into test and prod and know which version of each component you have.
Often when you make a change you will have to export/import several components. For example, if you add a folder you will need to export the folder, any business areas that hold the folder and if the folder is joined to any detail folders then these as well.
We don't have scripts to delete components from production. Very rarely do you need to delete anything from production and generally it is not a good idea because reports will stop working because the references in the reports are missing.

  • OWB propagation from development to production environment

    Our department is in need to implement overall security around our production data warehouse.
    One issue that seems to bother our management is having only one OWB Designer where developers would have to be responsible enough to use snapshots and export mappings to mdl files. Management would like to have development and production OWB Designer Repository where production designer would always be in sync with what is deployed in prd database. Also prd OWB Designer Repository would be like a source safe so we have to always get a mapping from prd designer move it dev designer and when done propagate changes back to prd designer and then deploy to prd database.
    Would this be a good approach?
    Any input on how to handle propagation from development to production environment, and if you are aware of "best practices" when it comes to OWB environment is appreciated.

    Hi,
    Copy whole catalog and rpd from dev to prob.
    If you want to copy specific report go to OracleBIData\web\catalog\samplesales\root\shared\sample+sales(group folder name)
    You can copy reports under folders and dashboards in _portal in Sample sales group folder...both file and .atr file.But you may miss security applied on those dashboards.
    http://www.rittmanmead.com/2008/04/28/migration-obiee-projects-between-dev-and-prod-environments/
    Best practice is to copy whole catalog and rpd (or) Copy shared and system folders and their .atr files from OracleBIData\web\catalog\samplesales\root so that you will not miss security and you will not over ride users folders which may contain some data created by them.

  • Migration from development to production environment for SAP Netweaver BI

    All,
    When I created a SAP Netweaver BI connection using BeX query in BW development environment, the system is defaulted to the BW development environment. Since the system textbox can't be modified to use a variable to point to production environment, can you share how you migrate your SWF file to production environment and ensure that it points to the BeX production query?
    Thanks for sharing ....

  • Questions on Analyzer Upgrade and Moving Analyzer Reports from Development to Production

    Hi,We run Analyzer 5.0.3. We are planning to go to Analyzer 7.2. Did any body go thru this upgrade? If so, what is your opinion and tips that may help. Also, we never had Analyzer development environment. We are planning on having Analyzer development environment. In our installation, all of the Analyzer reports are centrally developed based on user requests. Once we have development and production at the same Analyzer version, if a report is developed in the development system, how can the report be mirateed/moved from development to production system?Thank you for your help,Prasant

    Balaji,
    Has this been done yet?

  • How to transport requests from development  to production server

    hi gurus
    i am new to SDN
    can u pls give me detailed information how to transport requests from development server to production server?if possible give me screen shot documents
    regards
    surya

    Hi
    Transporting
    There are help pages that discuss creation of transports.
    In simple terms, you: create a transport package
    add objects to the package  export the package, plus optionally any related objects to a predefined folder/directory on the portal server into a file with an extension of .EPA copy the .EPA file to the import folder of your QA system and import it  test the contents on the QA system  copy the .EPA file to the import folder of your production system and import it  Create a transport package file
    Here is the step by step procedure to create a transport package:
    For Export
    1. Go to system administration, and click on transport?export.
    2. In the middle pane, select the folder you want to export and right click on the Transport Package. 3. Fill in the General Properties i.e the name of the package, id and description. 4. And say finish and open the object for editing.
    5. When the object has been opened then right click on the object you want to transport, and say "Add object to the Transport Package".
    6. Check the checkbox of the item u have added and see the properties if it has been added properly. 7. Now click on the save button.
    8. After the object is saved, click on the export button. 9. U will have an option to select where to store the .epa file which will be generated. U can overwrite an existing one by selecting the browse button, or store it with the generated name in the location it automatically generates. 10. Now Click on the Start Export button.
    11. once the export is completed, it shows a report on how much time is taken to generate the .epa file. 12. Here there is an option for downloading the .epa file. Click on the link and download the file. This file is ready to be uploaded into any other EP Server.
    For Import:
    Pre-requisites: You have to copy the .epa file created while export into the local drive. Optionally, you have to manually copy the .epa file generated in the export function into the Import directory of the server ie. chooseFollow the steps below for importing a certain file. 1. Go to System Administration in the portal, and click on Transport?Import. 2. For the source of the package, Click on the radio button Server for the .epa file you have copied lately. Else, click on the radio button on client if you are operating in the client and select the .epa file you have stored on the local drive. 3. Now select the file from the browse option and click on Upload.
    4. Now click on the import button. 5. Once the import process is finished, the report is shown. In the whole process, the par files are not included in the .epa files. For the par files to be included into the .epa files then we have to change the pcdStartup.properties file in the server. The property to be changed is Pcd.TransportApplication.Export.ExcludeObjectTypesAfterRuleProcessing: Keep this property's value as empty for enabling the par files to be uploaded into the .epa. You can check for this property in the portal in the following -System Administration-Support-Portal Content Directory-PCD Configuration.

  • How to transfer menus from development to production instance

    Hi,
    Any suggestion on how to transfer menus between development instance to production instance would be really great.
    Thanks
    --Kumar

    There is also an application which can do it for you without you need to know about the FNDLOAD command. We are using one of them.

  • Migrating application from Development to Production

    Good day all,
    Our development phase came to an end and now we need to "deploy" our application on the production server (with it's own OID). Note that we're on release 10.1.2.
    In my mind we need to do the following:
    - Export users/groups using the OID utilities.
    - Export database objects schema containing tables, procedures, functions... by creating a dump.
    - Export Page groups, db providers using transport sets.
    Just to confirm, is that what we need to do? Can anyone give me some details (especially on 1 and 2)?
    Thanks is advance!
    Jaco

    These are the steps in general for performing the deployment.
    For details on OID utilities, see
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_01/manage.1012/b14082/tools.htm#i1041008
    In particular you would use ldapsearch (and outputting the result to a file) or ldifwrite (to directly write to the file) and bulkload (to load the data output from the development oid to production oid) utilities in particular to achieve the migration.
    For schema migration of database schema - make sure that the schema components (tables, triggers, other objects) are exported and imported and there are no invalid objects that the database provider depends on before you start the next phase of migration (of portal content).

  • How to transfer request from Development to Production

    Hi,
      Can anybody tell me Step by Step procedure to transfer request form Dev. to Prod.

    Hi
    It depends how many enviroments you have and the transport routes is defined: anyway I can suppose there are development, quality and production system.
    So:
    - A) U have to release the request in dev system (trx SE09 or SE10): after releasing the request the system will move it to the queue of quality system.
    After the step A u need to use only the trx  STMS in all next enviroments in order to transfer the request to the production.
    - B) It needs to import the request to the quality system:
    - run trx STMS,
    - press the first icon (with a truck);
    - double click on the quality queue
    - refresh the list;
    - place the cursor on the request;
    -  Go to Request->Import
    After importing the requet to the quality, the system will place it in the production queue, so now it needs to repeat the step B, but u have to choose the production queue:
    - C) It needs to import the request to the production system:
    - run trx STMS,
    - press the first icon (with a truck);
    - double click on the production queue
    - refresh the list;
    - place the cursor on the request;
    -  Go to Request->Import
    Sometimes the system is setted not to transfer the request to the next queue after importing it, in this case u need to transfer it by yourself (trx STMS):
    After choosing the right queue go to: Request->Forward->System
    Anyway yuo should consider the steps above should be done by your basis, so perhaps u have no authoriations to run trx STMS.

  • VC Reports transport from Development to Production

    Hi all,
         How do we transport the VC Reports from Development to Production.
         How to transport the model.
         Do we need to create new System Object.
         please help me. Are there any standard document available.
    Thanks & Regards,
    kishore.

    Hi
    After importing the model as Dharmi explained, you might need to change the systems' names in the model to fit the production landscape. For example, if a backend system has an alias AAA in Dev and same system has alias BBB in prod. To do this, simply choose Tools > Manage services...
    If the landscapes are compatible, you can transport only the working iView using the portal transport capabilities. Navigate to System Configuration > Transport in the Dev portal, find your iView and add it to a transport package.
    Hope this helps,
    Shay

  • Error while migrating reports from one instance to another(no torch seen)

    Hi,
    I am facing this problem when I am trying to migrate reports from UAT to Production. After migration when I try to run the report from Discoverer plus, I cannot see the torch symbol which is general if we have any parameters for that report. So, I again migrate the same .eex file and now I see the torch.
    Can any one throw some thoughts why is this happening, why I cannot see the torch symbol in the first time itself?
    Thanks,
    Srini.

    Hi Srini
    The list of values is not being associated with the item the first time around. The order in which the items are selected is important so for example if lists of values were imported first without the items upon which they depend they will be ignored. Running the import a second time will cause the LOVs to recognize their associated item and thus the association will be made.
    Generally I do two exports. I will export my folders and workbooks first and then export my item classes.
    Hope this helps explain what you are seeing.
    Best wishes
    Michael

  • Error while importing the ODI Package from Development to Production Enviroment

    Hello Everybody,
    Currently I'm face the problem when import ODI models (from Development) to Production environment
    And the error show follwing error:
    ODI - 23040 Import file "C:/BIAPPS_Package/Models/XyZ.xml" error
    please help.

    Do the user performing the import have permissions to import models to the production environment? I'd also mention that you would have a better setup if your production environment only held executables such as scenarios, load plans etc. and not development objects. It leads to better change control management and simplifies the migration process from DEV --> PROD

  • Development and product environment

    Dear all,
    I want to setup two databases in seperated server. One for development purpose and another for product environment.
    Which good method/tool in oracle can transfer data (like pl/sql,tables,fields) from
    development to product environment?
    Thanks you

    I would strongly suggest cloning the database from Development to Production, using RMAN. You get a proper copy that way - and it isn't hard to do. Howard Rogers has all the answers here: http://www.dizwell.com/prod/node/9

  • Migration of FR 11.1.2.1 reports from development env to production env

    Hi everybody,
    I have a doubt about the migration of Financial reporting (11.1.2.1 release) reports with LCM.
    I set the permissions access to every single report and folder in the development environment. Now I have to migrate every objects to the production environment with LCM. Does this procedure migrate even the permission accesses to the target environment? Or do I have to set manually the permission accesses in the production environment?
    Thanks
    Pietro.

    Check page number 25 there is a screenshot which is actually your security migration...If you are talking about access control for each object in workspace,then that is done when you actually migrate the reports...
