How to minimize disk access to the absolute minimum?

Ok here is what I'm trying to get:
- I want my home server to access it's disks only when really necassary and power them down all the other time
Here is where I stand:
- Using hdparm it powers it's drives down when not accessed, this works for the second btrfs drive very well and worked perfectly while running the system from usb (this didn't work out because
after some time the usb stick would fail on me with read errors and the server would have to be restarted manually)
- However it does not work for the disk hosting the root filesystem, deactivating syslog-ng gets me as far as iotop not showing any activity, unless 2 kernel tasks belongig to the journaling of ext4 to run,
but thats still enough to make the system spin up it's disk and, can't cache this. I tried mounting relatime and without journaling but then [sync-super] and [flush-8-0] access the disk.
Anyone know of a way to make the system really spin down all it's hard drives until there is something useful to do with them like a cron job or me accessing my data?
Note the server is running headless, without much only apache (serving static content or my own cgis no databases) and sshd

I successfully used laptop-mode-tools with a desktop/server before. Simply set the cache-time really high. Otherwise I wouldn't know of a solution.

The RT Series PXI Controllers run an FTP server, so I can view files on the controller over the Internet wtih a Web browser. I can also download and upload files with a Web browser. How can I instruct the FTP server to give access only to specified, trustworthy FTP clients?

It is possible to "Lock" the controller from the Measurement and Automation Explorer program. The password you set when locking the controller (which prevents others from making configuration changes to the controller while running) is the same password that controls access to the FTP server. When the controller is unlocked, anyone who can access the PXI controller's IP can read, write, and delete files on the FTP server. When locked, anyone can read data from the FTP server, but only when logged in with the lock password will you have access to write or delete data.

Under Windows:
I need to get access to the native pointer for an applications frame (in this case a JFrame).
I need to do this because I want to display property pages in a native dialog box. These property pages are supplied by driver software, are themselves native, and require a valid CWnd handle in order to become active and therefore visible.

Airport Disk access from the internet via Windows Vista

I have an Air Port Extreme base station and am sharing an external hard disk connected to it by the USB port. Local network connections work well with both mac's and windows machines. I am able to connect to the airport disk from the internet with my mac's fine. afp://ip address. How can I connect to this same air port disk from the internet with my PC's which run Vista? There must be a way? I have tried endlessly for many hours. any help would be appreciated.

This works fine from local network, but not from a remote location from the internet. Maybe my syntax is incorrect. My workgroup name in the Airport Utility is "Apple"
Connected locally "\\APPLE1\My Book 500GB" works and makes a connection from the map network drive windows pane. \\Apple1\my book 500gb also connects if entered from IE, again locally. What would be the correct syntax to access it from the web?

As Debi says I dont think its possible, I tried to think of some logic using Variables but it was beyound me.
I see you are using a Stored Procedure, I would therefore suggeste that you add a Previous to each record in there. Then in Crystal you can use Previous() to look at that new field effectively giving you what you want.
In Oravle the LAG function will do what you want, not sure how you do it in SQL Server.

Looks to me that there is a lot more involved to install memory than just removing the keyboard.

Does anyone know a way to restrict access to a certain group of fields or a screen in vendor create? I know it is possible in vendor change XK02 using the field groups (transactions OBAT and OBAU) but we have a requirement to have one group of users create all vendor information except the bank details and another group of users just to create the bank details.

I'm guessing the 2nd didn't work because i tried to get the captivate object AFTER the script wrote something to an HTML file. I'm ultimately trying to get Captivate to generate a report for the user to report out what they did in response to the various quiz questions in the course (in HTML in table). I've posted a query on how to do this here: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5120417#5120417
Any chance you could take a look at this posting and let me know your thoughts on how best to do this .. It seems like this would be a fairly common thing to do .. It comes stock in Articulate Storyline (through their 'Report.HTML') but I haven't found a comparable one in Captivate.
