How to move music to correct user

One child downloaded Dad's CD's into child's user. Child later received his own mini. Have a total of 5 users and 3 have ipods so far.
Is it advisable to have separate libraries or to share music, or to create different playlists?
Advise appreciated in advance - am mom with no ipod whom everyone looks to to solve issue!

Hello,
I've gone over this page several times - It doesn't
indicate how to move music to another user. For
instance, would I copy the itunes folder to the
rightful user, or would I click File and Add a Folder
to the rightful user?
THANKS!
Doesn't really make any difference. If the user has access to the files where they are, then you can just add them to iTunes. If not, you can copy them to that user or give him access.
Simplest way is to just put all the files in one location on the computer where everybody will have access to them. Saves space and such. Then change each user's iTunes "Library Location" so that when they rip CD's, the music is put in that single location.
Every user has his own "library", but the library is more like a link to the files, not the files themselves. Follow me?

    Network
    Flashdrive
    DVD
    External drive
    Email
    File transfer site
Take your pick. You have several choices. The easiest, if your computers are networked, would be to drag and drop between the computers. Otherwise copying the files to a thumb drive or DVD then taking the thumb drive or DVD to the other computer is probably easiest. Although you could just upload the files to an online file transer site then download them to the other computer.

  • How to move music from ipad to sdcard

Hi any idea how to move music from ipad to and sdcard without any jailbreaking?
    Thank you.

It is a one way process except for iTunes purchased tracks. For other tracks, and assuming the new computer in a PC use this: http://www.wideanglesoftware.com/touchcopy/index.php
If you are buying a Mac, I prefer this: http://www.ecamm.com/mac/phoneview/

How to move iTunes from one user to another on the same Windows 7 computer? Thanks, Bob

Move the iTunes library to a shared area and then into the desired location. If this isn’t the default one, launch iTunes with the Shift key held down and choose that library.

  • HOw to Move music from one iPod to a New iPod

    Hi
    Two questions actually;
    1) My wife wants an iPod, and wants hers to have all the same music as mine, is that possible?
    If not
    2) Our current iPod is only 30G and I want to upgrade to a 120G. I have not been able to find any info about how to move all the songs to my new iPod.
I tried searching this site but a lot of unrelated 'stuff' comes up.
    Thanx.

If you're both syncing from the same computer, on the same user account this will be incredibly easy. Just plug the iPod in, and it will automatically sync with the library, just make sure the preferences are alright.
If the songs are all on the computer, merely plugging in your new one and syncing will transfer all the songs.

  • How to move music in 3 locations to network drive

When I recently installed iTunes, I added music to my iTunes from 2 locations - My Music, My eMusic. I have also put music into the iTunes folder. So, my music is located in 3 different locations.
Now I would like to move everything to a new network drive and keep it all there instead of my laptop. I understand how to move just the iTunes folder and playlists but how do I go about changing the location of all my music and still maintain my library and playlists?
    I appreciate your help!

It would be much easier if you would accept all your music being in in the iTunes Music folder on the network drive.
Then you just set the location of the new iTunes Music folder in your preferences and consolidate.
There is an article on moving iTunes music file this here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305451
If you must retain your folder arrangement outside the iTunes Music folder then you can't get all your meta data, but you can get some.
This involves manually editing iTunes Music Library.xml with WordPad. You can use search and replace to set new path values. It goes without saying that you should work on a copy of the xml file.
If you look in the xml file you will see that lines starting with:
<key>Location</key> contain paths. These are what have to be changed.
I would say that if you can't work how to do this your self, you should not attempt it.
Once you have all your music files where you want them, you recreate your iTunes Music folder from the edited version of the xml file according to this method:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93313
I would recommend that you copy your files to the new location leaving everything intact where it is. This means you retain a working set up while you experiment. You can also use the shift key start mechanism to create a new library file to experiment on so you keep the original intact. Or at least make a backup copy of your original library file.
I should add that it if this fills you with horror and you can accept losing metadata, you just copy your music to the new locations, then with iTunes closed, drag iTunes Library.itl from the iTunes folder to your desktop. Then when you open iTunes an empty library is created. The you just use File>>Add folder to Library... to add your music folders. Also set the new location of the iTunes Music folder in preferences.

  • How to move music off an iPad, i

Are there external storage devices (or can you just rely on iTunes Match) to move music you've bought from iTunes off my iPad so that it will stop hogging all the space on my iPad's hard drive?  Please, I'm desparate and don't want to delete any of my music.

You don't need iTunes Match if you have a computer running iTunes. Simply transfer the music into iTunes and then delete it from the device. Or you can just delete it from the device and then download it again for free as long as you use the same Apple ID that you used to purchase the music with. The only caveat with this delete and down pload method is that the music must still be available in the iTunes Store in order for you to download it again. When you transfer the music into iTunes on your computer, if isn't available in the store any longer, you still have access to it via a sync with iTunes.

  • Can't move music to new user

I have a G5 with two users set up both as admins. One user has all our music available in itunes. How do I get the other user to access all the music too? I don't want to just share the music, because I want to control it via my iphone using 'remote' and have it play via my airport express. I've tried changing the itunes music folder location and consolidating, but I can't seem to get it to work. Can anyone point me to an idiot's guide?

No need to respond! I discovered that I can play a shared music library via airtunes controlled by the iphone. Mind blowing it is too. Now I'll never have to leave the couch. Wish I'd had this technology back when I was a stoner (mind you, couldn't have afforded it ; )
