How to open photos as single layers

Hello experienced people.  Can someone please tell me to open a number of photos and see them as different layers in the right hand panel.  I am trying to learn HDR and need to be able to see the different exposures as layers so that I can move them around and use the best bits.
Thanks for your help Terry

Open all your images and drag and drop each one from the project bin into the main editing window.

  • How to open or close all layers ?

    Hello,
I've got a file with lots of layers.
Is there a way to close all layers ?
Also, when I close my file (with layers closed) and open it again, all layers come back opened.
Is there an option to avoid that ?

No in both cases and the third one is a bug and as a matter of fact if you choose thumbnails for toplayers that does nothold either.
So this is something that is outstanding a long time I think it will hopefully be addressed in either a dot release of the next version. Or at least it should be addressed.

  • How to open Photoshop files as layers in an open Illustrator file?

    Hi there,
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but right now I'm working with both Photoshop and Illustrator CS6 on a mac. I'm creating a graphic. The background is a (cartoonish) mouth and I finished it a couple of days ago. (It's an Illustrator file.) I've been working on the letters to go inside of the mouth, (Once I'm finished it'll look as though they're being crushed.) I scanned and edited small wooden letters in Photoshop, and now I would like to work with them with the background in Illustrator. I understand how to open a Photoshop file in Illustrator, but I don't want to open the document as a separate Illustrator file. Is there a way to open a file from Photoshop as a second layer?
Some of the letters repeat as well. Will I have to create two files for this, or can I open the same file twice?
    Thanks! VA

Simply copy&paste the stuff to the worjking document. You are over-thinking this.

  • How to open photos photos in a seperate window

Hi all, I recently ran across a website where the images were able to open in a seperate page as well as the usual photo gallery and slideshow. Does anyone have any insight as to how this is done?
This is a link to that website

    My website is: http://www.richardgardnerphotography.com/Richard_Gardner/home.html

I see what you're referring to. It must be a special theme. There are several 3rd party theme providers that might have that feature in it's download section. Google iDVD themes and see what you find.
I've not tried all of the iDVD dark themes so don't know if one one them will provide that enlargement. Maybe the theme used was modified but that's out of my realm.

  • How to open .ai file with layers intact?

Is there a way to open an .ai file inside of Photoshop CS4 with all its  layers sitll intact? If so, how?

That command tries to write layers but most of the functions from Illustrator aren't available in Photoshop so it flattens those layers to preserve the image quality. I wouldn't bother with it, there's not much point in editing Illustrator layers in Photoshop anyway. If you have to bring .AI files into Photoshop then use File->Place to turn the .AI file into a Smart Object.

  • How to open photos large enough to edit or view?

I am unable to view photos in any size larger than the basic thumbnail.  When I double click, the photo remains small.  When I go to full screen mode, the photo remains small but is centered in the middle of the full screen.  It is very difficult to see the picture well enough to edit or anything.  In past versions of iPhoto, a double click on the photo would open the photo.
I am using a MacBook Pro, 10.9.5, and iPhoto 9.5.1.  I would love to return to the previous version of iPhoto but understand that is not possible.
How can I open my photos to work with them (or to even view them)?
    Thank you!

    Try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window. Be sure to follow the circled recommendation in the screenshot.
    2 - run Option #4, Rebuild Database.
If that fails copy the library over again manually by dragging it from the old Mac to the new Mac.  Others have had problems with Migration Assistant and iPhoto Libraries.

  • How to open photos in Elements 12

I opened a photo in My Pictures and Elements 12 opened up but the photo didn't appear to edit.  When I used Elements 7 it opened up okay.

Nothing was saved "in" CS4. Bridge is just a browser; it just shows you the current state of any folder you point it at. Just figure out where the photos are and use file>get photos>from files and folders, if you really want to use organizer.
I don't understand at all about itunes music getting downloaded. Never ever heard of that.

  • How to open photos as a list?

    Hello,
I've always been annoyed at iPhoto's inability to resize images – especially since Preview can.
So I made a droplet to resize images for me (see end) and set it as my external editor.
Unfortunately, if I try to open multiple images from iPhoto, it only opens the first one (no problems in the Finder). I think this problem is because iPhoto opens images one at a time, not in a list. If anyone can get iPhoto to open images in a list, or better still, resize images from within iPhoto, I would be very grateful.
(*I used lots of public online code in this script*)
    on open sels
set bhv to (display dialog "Height in pixels:" default answer "900" buttons {"Cancel", "Open All", "Resize All"} default button "Resize All")
set rbhv to the button returned of bhv
if rbhv = "open all" then tell application "Preview"
    open sels
    activate
    end tell
if rbhv = "Resize All" then
    repeat with sel in sels
    try
    tell application "Image Events"
    launch
    set ln to 1
set img to open sel as alias
set ln to ln + 1
    copy dimensions of img to {oldx, oldy}
set ln to ln + 1
set newy to text returned of bhv
set newy to (run script newy)
set rat to (newy / oldy)
set newx to (oldx * newy) / oldy
    end tell
    if newy > oldy then
set skp to the button returned of (display dialog "Image too small" buttons {"Resize", "Skip"} default button "Skip")
if skp = "Skip" then error
    end if
    tell application "Image Events"
    if oldy > oldx then
scale img to size (newy as integer)
    else
scale img to size (newx as integer)
    end if
    save img
    end tell
    end try
    end repeat
    end if
    end open

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You only have 450 photos? Why are you worried about file space with only 450 photos? It seems like a lot of work for such small space saving. If you're editing a photo for a project or specific use just use the Photos->Revert to Original menu option after you've completed the project. That will remove the modified version.
Or, use Preview as the external editor to use from within iPhoto.
Using 2 Image Editors in iPhoto
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and a 3rd party editor without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected the 3rd party editor as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". Then when you Control-click on an image, you can select "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu to edit in your selected editor.
The do your edit with iPhoto as you normally would. Then Control-click on the thumbnail and select Edit in external Editor. When the photo comes up in Preview, do your reduction thing and save. That will reduce the size of the modified version.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • How do I upload a single photo to a website?, how do I upload a single photo to a website?

how do I upload a single photo to a website?

Probably using the first of these - but hey, that question is so vague it's impossible to say
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:   You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.  If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:  You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation  which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
Show File:  a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier:  Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.    3.b.
b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • In iPhoto  how do I open Photo Grid to change number of caption lines?

In iPhoto  how do I open Photo Grid to change number of caption lines?

In iPhoto '11 you can only display two lines below the thumbnails of your photos when you browse an event or an album, the titles and the ratings. The title will be truncated, if it does not fit into the single line. From the iPhoto help:
To show title and rating information below photos:
Click to select Photos in the Source list.
Choose View, and then choose the information you want to view:
    Titles
    Rating
The information field you chose appears below your photos.
To hide this information, choose View, and then choose the information you want to hide.

  • How do i open photos in photoshop elements 9

I have loaded Photoshop Elements 9 on my MacBook Pro and cannot open photos. I also have IPhoto running

The following is how to use PSE from within iPhoto:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.  3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 9 the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
NOTE: If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window".  That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu).  This way you get the best of both worlds.
