How to pass the parameter in the where clause of the select statement

Hi All,
Iam getting one of the value from the Input otd and using this value i need to query one of the tables in oracle database and selected the table using the oracle eway otd like shown below .
otdRISKBLOCK_1.getRISKBLOCK().select() .
where clause in side the select takes a string parameter as Iam getting the string parameter from the input otd and passing this to where clause by creating a string literal after deployment it is giving an error saying "ORA-00920: invalid relational operator".
can any one throw some input on this .
Thanks in Advance
Srikanth

You will see this error if the search condition was entered with an invalid or missing relational operator.
You need to include a valid relational operator such as
  =, !=, ^=, <>, >, <, >=, <=, ALL, ANY, [NOT] BETWEEN, EXISTS, [NOT] IN, IS [NOT] NULL, or [NOT] LIKE in the condition. in the sql statement.
Can you throw some more light on how are you designing your project?

  • Values from a Multi-Select in the where clause of a Select statement

    I have a web page that solicits query parameters from the user.
    The selections that the user makes will populate the WHERE clause of a Select statement.
    One of the controls on the page is a multi-select control.
    When this page posts, I would like to execute a Select statement wherein the selected values from this control appear in the .. Column IN ( <list here> ) portion of the WHERE clause.
    This is an extremely common scenario, but I cannot seem to locate a how-to or message thread that addresses this specific case.
    I have an idea that it may involve dynamic SQL or Execute Immediate, but cannot seem to pin down the answer.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    [email protected] wrote:
    I have a select statement like this
    SELECT XX_AIR_TICKET_EMP_BAL(:P2) from dualWhy a SELECT statement? This calls the SQL engine. The function is PL/SQL. This now needs the SQL engine to context switch to the PL engine. The PL engine runs and returns a value (across memory boundaries) to the SQL engine. The SQL engine now needs to return that value as part of the output from a SQL cursor.
    Why do all this? Surely it is a lot easier and better for performance to call the PL engine directly using an anonymous PL block. E.g.
    begin
      :P3 := XX_AIR_TICKET_EMP_BAL(:P2);
    end;
    is it possible to pass to variable p2 from where clause
    like
    SELECT XX_AIR_TICKET_EMP_BAL(:P2) from dual
    where :p2 = :p1Why?
    This can be done as part of the PL block as follows:
    begin
      if :P2 = :P1 then
        :P3 :=  XX_AIR_TICKET_EMP_BAL(:P2);
      end if;
    end;But then why construct conditional statements dynamically?
    It would be a lot easier to have a new function that does the condition, e.g.
    create or replace function getAirTicket( p1 number, p2 number ) return number is
    begin
      if p1 = p2 then
        return( XX_AIR_TICKET_EMP_BAL(p2) );
      else
       return( null );
      end if;
    end;

  • How can I avoid hard-coding this where clause in the inner select?

    This is extremely fast, but I have to hard-code the inner-most where clause, and I obviously can't do that. I know how to work-around it by creating a function that takes the CUSTOMER_ID and returns the ORDER_ID from the most recent payment, and that's reasonably fast, but I thought it would be worthwhile to see if there was a way to do this in straight SQL. I also know that better design could make the problem go away.
    Very much appreciate it if you could take a look and let me know if there's any way to get this kind of performance without hard-coding.
    Thanks,
    create or replace view customer_view as

    Hi Matt,
    Something like this could be a possibility (Not tested)
    create or replace view customer_view as

             customer.customer_name,
             (select min (t.order_id)
                       keep (dense_rank first order by payment.payment_date desc)
              from   payment
              where  payment.customer_id = customer.customer_id)
               as latest_order_id
      from   customer;Regards

  • How to validate string parameter in subprogram where clause.

    Hi All,
    I m using forms6i, I have receive one string parameter from some other Form. I want to check this parameter value in my subprograms where clause (Particularly IN clause).
    For Example the parameter name : P_PARA1 and its value 'AA','BB','CC'
    my code like this..
    select ....
    from <tab name>
    wehre ....
    and column_name in(:parameter.para1)*
    plz help me hw can i handle this situation.

    I Did't get any error value, but the in where clause :parameter value added '' quotes at runtime.
    For example
    declare
    cursor c1 is (p_p1 IN VARCHAR2) IS
    select ...
    from ...
    where <columnname> IN (p_p1);
    begin
    open C1(:PARAMETER.P_para1);
    now i have checked the selection query while running form in SQL Monitor, below like that
    select ..
    from ...
    where <columnname> IN ('''AA'','''BB'');
    hw its added the extra ' quote..

  • Using if logic in the where clause of a select statement

    I have a select clause. And in the select clause there is a variable all_off_trt that can be 'Y' or 'N'.
    In the where clause I want to make it so that if a form variable is checked and all_off_trt is 'Y' then
    exclude it else if the form variable isn't checked then select it no matter what all_off_trt is.
    Is there any way to include either and if statement or a case statement within the where clause to acheive this? If not is there another way of doing it?
    Basically I am looking for a case statement like this
    case
    when all_off_trt = 'Y' and mail_para.code = 'Y' then false
    else true
    end

    Ok, so that really doesn't solve my problem. I have 3 different fields that I need to do that with. Each combining in a select statement to print an email list, as well as other thing limiting the where clause.
    This is currently what I have, tested and working 100%.
    cursor email_cur is
         select unique p.email,s.all_off_trt,s.all_deceased,s.no_enroll
    from participant p, trialcom t, ethics s
    where p.status='A'
    and p.surname=t.surname
    and p.initials=t.initials
    and s.trial_cd = t.tricom
    and s.centre = t.centre
    and p.email is not null
    and (t.centre in (select code from mail_parameters where user_name=user and mail_para='CENTRE')
    or 'XX' in (select code from mail_parameters where user_name=user and mail_para='CENTRE'))
    and (t.tricom in (select code from mail_parameters where user_name=user and mail_para='TRIAL')
    or 'XX' in (select code from mail_parameters where user_name=user and mail_para='TRIAL'))
    and (t.role in (select code from mail_parameters where user_name=user and mail_para='ROLE')
    or 'XX' in (select code from mail_parameters where user_name=user and mail_para='ROLE'))
    and (p.country in (select code from mail_parameters where user_name=user and mail_para='COUNTRY')
    or 'XX' in (select code from mail_parameters where user_name=user and mail_para='COUNTRY'))
    and (t.represent in (select code from mail_parameters where user_name=user and mail_para='REPRESENT')
    or 'XX' in (select code from mail_parameters where user_name=user and mail_para='REPRESENT'));
    This is in a program unit that runs when a button is clicked. At the end of that I need to add on the 3 case statements that help further narrow down the selection of emails to be printed. Then it prints the emails selected from this statement into a file. So it has to be done right in the select statement. The three table variables are the all_off_trt, all_deceased, and no_enroll. The form has 3 checkboxes. One for each, that when checked (giving the variable associated with the checkboxes a value of 'Y') excludes all emails that have a 'Y' in the coresponding table variable.

  • Using ROWID in the WHERE clause of a SELECT statement

    hi all,
    my team is trying to select a value from a table using the rowid as the selection criterion
    e.g. select column_name from table_name where rowid > 'AAA112BBBCCC12A'
    this query does not appear to return accurate results e.g. it return rows instead of two. my questions are:
    1. is this a legitimate approach?
    2. should we convert the row id to varchar2? if so how should this be done?
    thanks!

    SQL> select rowid,ename

    erwer
    7 rows selected.1) using rowid to access a record is the quickest way so it is legitimate
    however using > has no real purpose as you point out you cannot get any meaningful results returned.
    2) No real need to convert however beware storing values in tables as Oracle does not guarantee to preserve the format in different versions so upgrading from 9i to 10g would invalidate your data.

  • How can I pass multiple condition in where clause with the join table?

    Hi:
    I need to collect several inputs at run time, and query the record according to the input.
    How can I pass multiple conditions in where clause with the join table?
    Thanks in advance for any help.
    Regards,
    TD

    If you are using SQL-Plus or Reports you can use lexical parameters like:
    SELECT * FROM emp &condition;
    When you run the query it will ask for value of condition and you can enter what every you want. Here is a really fun query:
    SELECT &columns FROM &tables &condition;
    But if you are using Forms. Then you have to change the condition by SET_BLOCK_PROPERTY.
    Best of luck!

  • Parsing an input parameter for the where clause or record select value

    In my limited CR experience, I've always used a command database connection so that I can write my own SQL.  However, now I have to parse a  pipe delimited parameter to get my value for the where clause, so I'm selecting several tables and joining them through the Database Expert Links tab.  All works fine, but after doing that and then parsing the parameter with the below formula in the Select Expert, I notice that there is no where clause in the SQL query, and although the report eventually displays the proper values, it runs through thousands of records first.  Here is my Select Expert - Record formula:
    StringVar array Parm1;
    Parm1 := Split({?DATA_AREA}, "|");
    {SO_ORDERS.CASE_ID} = Parm1[2]
    If I change "Parm1[2]" on the last line to a valid Case ID, then there is a where clause in the SQL and the report generates immediately.
    It seems like the record select formula is applied AFTER all of the records (without a where clause) are searched when I use the parsed parameter value, but when I hard code a valid value, it places that into the where clause BEFORE the sql is executed.  Is there a way to get the parameter parsed first and then use that parsed value in the SQL where clause?
    Thanks.
    Bill

    Yes crystal will run the query first to get 100% data and then applies record selection condition. To increase the performance you need to pass the where condition at the command level instead of report level. So you need to create a report using add command like this
    select * from tablename where field={?Parameter}
    {?Parameter} is a command level parameter.
    Now insert this report as a subreport in another report which has no connection but has a parameter
    {?DATA_AREA} and create a formula like this in the main report
    Split({?DATA_AREA}, "|")[2]
    Now right click on the subreport and go to change subreport links and add this formula from main report and link this to sub report parameter {?Parameter} without linking any database field from the subreport.
    Now your subreport runs with the where clause to get the data.

    Also tried to modifiy the SET_PARAM1 and GET_PARAM1 in order to use a "table of varchar2" ... but with no succes.
    Help please

    Rod,
    for the first "problem" I find the solution on metalink (note 304192.1) and works fine (also combining SET and GET together)... otherwise I don't know how use this "workaround"...
    for the multiple values on a single parameter (for example: Month='Jan,'Feb') I have tried to understand how DISCO pass these values to the SET function (I suppose like an array of varchar2) but don't work. After the first values (Jan) the reports stop... The problem in not how stored the values but understan how DISCO "pass/manage" these values (Jan,Feb)... Can u help me?
    my actual SETPARAMS package body is (like metalink):
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE BODY SETPARAM AS
    FUNCTION SET_PARAM1(P1 IN VARCHAR2) RETURN NUMBER IS
    BEGIN
    param1 := P1;
    return 1;
    END;

    FUNCTION SET_PARAM_MBO(p_anno IN VARCHAR2) RETURN NUMBER IS

    Take a look at set_custom_property:
    public static final ID SETTEXT = ID.registerProperty("SETTEXT");
    public boolean setProperty(ID pid, Object value)
        if (pid == SETTEXT)
    String text = value.toString();
    and in forms
    set_custom_property('beans.bean_item', 1, 'SETTEXT', 'some text');

  • How to pass dynamic parameter to a database function in OBIEE

    Hi,
    I have a requirement like this. I have to create one report in OBIEE which was in Discoverer. Now in discoverer report there are some calculated item in the worksheet based on database pkg.functions. The parameter which user gives at run time that parameters are then passed to the discoverer calculated items dynamically. But I am not able to do this in OBIEE answers.
    Can anyone tell me step by step how I can able to pass the user selected parameter values in OBIEE answer level.
    The example:
    GET_COMM_VALUE_PTD("AFE Cost & Commitment".Afe Id,:"Period Name(AFE)","AFE Cost & Commitment".Data Sel,"AFE Cost & Commitment".Org Id)
    GET_COMM_VALUE_PTD --- Function database
    ("AFE Cost & Commitment".Afe Id,:"Period Name(AFE)","AFE Cost & Commitment".Data Sel,"AFE Cost & Commitment".Org Id --- Parameters... :"Period Name(AFE)" is the dynamic parameter selected run time by user.

    Hi,
    I already did that. But the existing discoverer re value report is showing correct value but the OBIEE report with EVALUATE function shows incorrect value.
    The requirement is to create a OBIEE Dashboard from a Discoverer existing report. Now in discoverer report theere are several calculated items in worksheet level where database custom function is used and user selected parameter value is passed run time in that function. But when that is created in OBIEE with EVALUATE function in RPD, the report shows incorrect data. Could not understand how to pass the parameter value runtime.
    Below is the discoverer 'Show SQL' query and EVALUATE function syntax which has been used.
    SELECT APPS.XXBG_PL_PROJ_ANALYSIS_AFE_PKG.GET_COMM_VALUE_PTD(XXBG_PL_PROJ_AFE_V.AFE_ID,
    :"Period Name(AFE)",
    XXBG_PL_PROJ_AFE_V.DATA_SEL,
    XXBG_PL_PROJ_AFE_V.ORG_ID),
    XXBG_PL_PROJ_AFE_V.AFE_DESC,
    XXBG_PL_PROJ_AFE_V.AFE_NUMBER,
    XXBG_PL_PROJ_AFE_V.APPROVED_AFE_AMOUNT
    FROM APPS.PA_PERIODS_ALL PA_PERIODS_ALL,
    APPS.XXBG_PL_PROJ_AFE_V XXBG_PL_PROJ_AFE_V
    WHERE ((XXBG_PL_PROJ_AFE_V.ORG_ID = PA_PERIODS_ALL.ORG_ID))
    AND (XXBG_PL_PROJ_AFE_V.DATA_SEL = :"Data Selection(AFE)")
    AND (PA_PERIODS_ALL.PERIOD_NAME = :"Period Name(AFE)")
    AND (XXBG_PL_PROJ_AFE_V.AFE_NUMBER = :"AFE Number(AFE)")
    AND (XXBG_PL_PROJ_AFE_V.OPERATING_UNIT = :"Operating Unit(AFE)")
    The EVALUATE function syntax is as below:
    EVALUATE('XXBG_PL_PROJ_ANALYSIS_AFE_PKG.GET_COMM_VALUE_PTD(%1,%2,%3,%4)' AS FLOAT , "BG PL Project Analysis Report_1"."AFE Cost & Commitment"."AFE Cost & Commitment.Afe Id", "BG PL Project Analysis Report_1"."Periods 1"."Periods 1.Period Name", "BG PL Project Analysis Report_1"."AFE Cost & Commitment"."AFE Cost & Commitment.Data Sel", "BG PL Project Analysis Report_1"."AFE Cost & Commitment"."AFE Cost & Commitment.Org Id")
    The PERIOD needs to be passed at run time which user will select.
    Please help to solve the issue.

  • How to pass page parameter to report portlet ?

    Portal: 9.0.4
    RDBMS: 9.0.1.5.0
    OS: Windows
    REF: How to pass page parameter to report portlet ?
    Hi,
    I create a Oracle Report as a Portlet in Portal (create Report Definition File Access and check on the option "Publish As Portlet" in the on the last step). My report has an "Additional User Parameter" and I has let it "Visible to user".
    When I put this portlet in my Portal page, I can see this parameter in the property/parameters of this page. However I cannot transfer my page parameter to this portlet parameter. Other portlets in this page (non-Oracle-Report portlets) are working fine with my page parameter.
    Please advice.

    I want to make sure we are talking about the same thing:
    After you add the portlet to the page, you go to the page properties, then the parameters tab, then there is a section at the bottom called "Portlet Parameter Values" where you can click and expand your portlet to see your portlet parameters.
    Is it here where your parameters just don't show up?
    If it is, try the following:
    - Add the portlet to another page and see if it still behaves the same.
    - Mark the parameters in the portlet as being non-public, re-generate portlet (on manage tab), then mark them as being public, re-generate and then try the above again (add to another page).
