How to prevent Numbers and special charecters entry in character field

Hi all,
I have a text field of character type i want to user just enter A-Z or a-z with only space character do not enter 0-9 or or Special Characters, i used format mask like FMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA but this not allowing SPACE between characters. Anybody can help!

That's what regular expressions are for:
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14200/functions130.htm#SQLRF06302
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14200/functions129.htm#i1239887
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14200/conditions007.htm#i1048942
When you validate your item you could replace all character you do not want (or check for their existence with regexp_instr).
cheers

  • Remove spaces and special characters from a form field

    Hi,
    I am tragically new to all of this, but am trying to create a form in Adobe Acrobat 9.  I am trying to use a Custom Format script to take inputs in a form field and automatically remove spaces and special characters (hyphens specifically).  For example, if a user inputs "RAN-99 06" I would like it to change to "RAN9906."  I found this script that will not let users input special characters
    if (!event.willCommit) {
        event.change = event.change.replace(/[\$#~%\*\*\^\-\(\)\+=\[\]\{\};\"\<\>\?\|\\\!]/g, "");
    And that's okay, but I can't figure out how to disallow spaces.  Also, the perference would be for a script to allow users to input the data as they like, but to clean it up after they leave the text field.
    Thanks in advance!

    From the description, I assume that the script is currently in the Keystroke event. In fact, that would be a most logical way to have it; simply ignore anything unwanted when entered.
    If you want to allow the user to enter anything, but "clean it up" when done, you would place your code in the Validate event. You will have to adjust your Regular Expression so that it works globally, but that's the whole difference. This will change the value.
    Note that you can also enter the code into the Format event. However, that would only change the visual representation of the value, but internally, the value would remain as entered.
    Hope this can help.

  • How do I add and remove text in a text field with a checkbox?

    How do I add and/or remove text in a text field with a checkbox?
    this is my script in the text box......
    event.value="Hello, this is my narrative. \r\n\nFamily: \r\n\n" + this get.Field("FirstName").value + " " + this.getField("LastName").value + was born on"=this.getField("DOB.value + "\r\n\n + this.getField("drpField").value + "\r\n\n" + this getField("Father").value
    The text box looks like this...
    Hello, this is my narrative.
    FAMILY:
    John Smith was born on 08/02/2000
    Boby Lou
    Jack Smith
    I need to add/or remove the father field (Jack Smith) & r/n/n with a check box.
    Does anyone know how to do this?

    There are multiple errors in your code...
    Use this code instead (adjust the name of the check-box):
    var msg = "Hello, this is my narrative. \r\n\nFamily: \r\n\n" + this get.Field("FirstName").value + " " + this.getField("LastName").value + was born on" + this.getField("DOB.value) + "\r\n\n" + this.getField("drpField").value;
    if (this.getField("FatherCheckBox").value!="Off")
         msg += "\r\n\n" + this getField("Father").value;
    event.value = msg;

  • How to prevent user to enter data in "Date/Time Field"?

    Hi folks,
         Back after long time to the forums, where I get answers which are helpful in making me good at utilizing designer.
         I am trying to validate the "Date/Time Field" using JavaScript but couldn't get a proper RegEx expression for various invalid user input formats. If anyone can help me out in finding a proper script that would Great.
         My script grown bigger and bigger to accepting invalid dates, but felt like hardcoding. So, instead I decided why can't we prevent a user to enter data into "Date/Time Field" and use only calendar dropdown. Is there is a way to do this?
    find my sample testing docment
    https://acrobat.com/#d=mYXkrhO2txuEesCfmvxNXg
    Thanks in Advance,
    Rajesh

    Hi Rajesh,
    I don't think there is a way of stopping the user from using the keyboard to enter a date.  You can use the following script in the change event to stop them typing a date but they will still be able to paste a date in.
    if (xfa.event.change.length === 1)
    xfa.event.change = "";
    This code works because if the date is selected from the calendar dropdown then the date xfa.event.change value will be the whole date and therefore longer than one character.
    I couldn't access your sample but if you were to set an display picture for the date field to something other than date{YYYY-MM-DD} then a valid date will have a formattedValue that is different than the rawValue.

  • How do I recognize and treat seperately entries in a text box?

    I've placed a text box in a report that is populated by data entries that are seperated by a semicolon.  Each entry is unique and distinct.  I want to try to count and group these individually, but since they exist in a text box seperated by a semicolon, how can I treat them as unique?  Here is an example:
    02 Inadequate Policies and/or Procedures;01 Lack of Policies and/or Procedures;05 Inadequate Separation of Duties;10 Financial Systems Deficiency;

    Hi,
    Whether the values is fixed ie, you will get a string with 5 values which is :;: seperated.
    If it is fixed you can use a way.
    for ex; you have a string of 5 values.
    first formula u write : Stringvar
    Variablename := split(Fieldname,';')[0]
    like that five formula.
    Then you can take the count(Variablename).

  • How to prevent find and replace from finding linked files?

    I have a bunch of ASP pages that I need to update in the same manner with Find and Replace. In order to do this, I open all the files, use Find and Replace, and choose to Replace All in the Source Code of Open Documents.
    Pretty straightforward, right? Except, if I have any include file statements, such as this:
    <!--#include file=" yadda yadda"-->
    DW opens these files on its own, and updates THEM as well.
    This is a very frustrating behavior. I have been through the Preferences several times and I'm just not seeing any way to turn this off.
    I have tried Googling this problem, and have seen absolutely no mention of it.
    Does anyone know if this annoyance can be disabled?
    Thanks.

    I would try selecting the specific files in the Files tab, then using "Selected Files in Site" and see what happens.
    I think DW considers related files to be "open" (since you can edit them from within the main file they are related to) when that option is turned on and the files they're related to are open.

  • Word Count - ignore numbers and symbols

    Hi Guys,
    can anyone tell me how to ignore numbers and symbols by adjusting the script below, i.e., just counting letters in a whole document.
    myDoc = app.activeDocument
    h = 0
    for ( var j = 0; myDoc.stories.length > j; j++) {
    h = myDoc.stories[j].words.length + h
    alert("You have " + h + " words in this document" )
    Cheers,
    Samuel

    In CS3 and later you can use this:
    app.findGrepPreferences = null;
    app.findGrepPreferences.findWhat = "[\\u\\l][-\\u\\l]+";
    found = app.documents[0].findGrep ();
    alert ("You have " + found.length + " words in this document.")
    A "word" is defined here as any string of upper- and lower-case letters and hyphens. Maybe that's too strict, but you can tweak the GREP to suit your needs.

    I'm using Lion on an MBP and Numbers is the latest version

    May you give more details about what is wrong with your dates ?
    M…oSoft products aren't allowed on my machines but I use LibreOffice which is a clone of Office.
    When I export from Numbers to Excel and open the result with LibreOffice, the dates are correctly treated.
    To be precise, dates after 01/01/1904 are correctly treated. dates before 01/01/1904 are exported as strings but, as it's flagged during the export process, it's not surprising.

    I see people from different ages at my work and every month I need to count how many people from each age I've seen that month. How can I do to give the entries to numbers in a single cell and make numbers count them for me? The final result would be a spreadsheet telling there were 8 people from 20 to 39 years old, 14 peolple from 40 to 59 and so on...

    This appears to be an 'input form' using 'Radio Buttons' to select the category. Neither of these features are supported in Numbers '09.
    You can input the data on one table and summarize it on a second table, but the input table will continue to hold data for each event.
    And by using the Reorganize button, you can hide all but two rows of that table to approximate the appearance and performance of an input form.
    Here are the two tables, Data on the left and Summary on the right. Notes below.
    The grey-filled columns in both tables are 'working' columns, and may be hidden (as shown in the image below).
    Data table:
    D1 contains the word "TRUE" (in capital letters). (This row is always shown.)
    D2 is empty, or may contain any value except "TRUE" (This row is always hidden under the Reorganize rule.)The rest of Row 2 of this table requires the data shown: a number outside the range to be counted (999), and two checkboxes, both checked.
    D3 (and filled down the rest of column D):   =AND(OR(B2,C2),NOT(OR(B3,C3)))
    The formula returns TRUE only for the first unused row in the table (ie. the first row for which neither checkbox has been checked)
    Summary table:
    Column A contains labels for the age ranges to be counted.
    Column B contains the same information in the form necessary for the formulas in columns C and D. They need a numeric value, and that value must be the largest acceptable value in the range to be counted.
    C2 (and filled right to column D, then both filled down to row 5):
        =COUNTIFS(Data :: $A,"<="&$B,Data :: B,TRUE)-SUM(C$1:C1)
    Two changes from the previous example:
    COUNTIFS is used to separate the Native and Foreign counts as well as the age range to be counted.
    The amount subtracted from each result is the SUM of the earlier results, and includes the text value in the first cell of the column (which is interpreted by SUM as a zero).
    See note below regarding my earlier formula.
    When the greyed columns are hidden and the checkbox in the Reorganize pane is checked, the two tables will appear as shown below:
    Close the reorganize pane, and the 'data entry form' is ready to use.
    To use, enter the age first, then check one of the boxes.
    As soon as one box is checked, the row will be hidden, and the next (unused) row will be shown.
    Regards,
    Barry
    Note regarding formula in my earlier post:
    The earlier formula will give erroneous results as it subtracts only the count directly above it from its count of persons in the age range 0-n.
    In E2 of that table, replace "-E1" with "-SUM(E1:E$1)
    Fill down to E8.
    Ignore the instructions (in that post) following "Fill down to E8."
