How to re-download Lion Disk Assistant app?

I purchased and downloaded Lion 10.7 from the App store. There was supposed to be a Lion Download Assistant app included with the download however I cannot find it on my HD. The app store is no help since it says that Lion is already downloaded and is grayed out (see attached image). I want to make a thumb drive recovery disk. Is there a way to redownload the assistant?
Thanks,
Don

There is no "Lion Download Assistant" included with the Lion installer. There is a Recovery Disk Assistant that can be separately downloaded from Apple's download site.
If you want a Recovery HD on a USB flash drive get Lion Recovery Disk Assistant 1.0. If you wanted to make a bootable Lion installer on a USB drive then you needed to save the Lion installer you downloaded. See the following:
Make Your Own Lion Installer
1. After downloading Lion you must first save the Install Mac OS X Lion application. After Lion downloads DO NOT click on the Install button. Go to your Applications folder and make a copy of the Lion installer. Move the copy into your Downloads folder. Now you can click on the Install button. You must do this because the installer deletes itself automatically when it finishes installing Lion.
2. Get a USB flash drive that is at least 8 GBs. Prep this flash drive as follows:
Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
3. Locate the saved Lion installer in your Downloads folder. CTRL- or RIGHT-click on the installer and select Show Package Contents from the contextual menu. Double-click on the Contents folder to open it. Double-click on the SharedSupport folder. In this folder you will see a disc image named InstallESD.dmg.
4. Plug in your freshly prepared USB flash drive. You are going to clone the InstallESD.dmg disc image to the flash drive as follows:
Open Disk Utility.
Select the USB flash drive from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the USB flash drive volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Drag the InstallESD.dmg disc image file into the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
When the clone is completed you have a fully bootable Lion installer that  you can use without having to re-download Lion.

  • How can I download lion from Mac app store in recovery mode on an imac?

I bought a mid-2007 imac from a friend, who the computer was working perfectly for. When I went to start up it wouldn't start up (past the gray screen) from the regular HD no matter how many tricks I tried (resetting SMC, PRAM, etc), so I went in to recovery mode. I verified and repaired the disc more than once (even though it said it was fine), and tried to reinstall lion from the online recovery function but it said "item temporarily unavailable." I basically tried every combo of things possible before erasing the HD but nothing worked, so then I decided to erase the HD.
SO that happened, and now I can still boot up in recovery mode and it -seems- like if I can find a way to reinstall lion (which was the last os running), I may be back in business.
however, see the problem with "item temporarily unavailable."
I decided to purchase it from the Mac store online on a different device and it says it will email me a link in 1-3 business days (really??! That long to save me with an EMAIL LINK???), and my thought is that maybe I can log in to my email from the safari window and download it that way. I'm just afraid that I won't be able to access the Mac app store if that is where it downloads from.
Ultimately, I'm trying to avoid a trip to the Apple Store because this thing will be a nightmare to lug on public transportation. My questions for you are as follows:
    - how likely do you think it is that I'll be able to successfully download lion from the email link in recovery mode?
    - Do actual discs with lion exist anywhere in the wide world? If so, how can I get one?
    - would it be worth it to grab an old lion usb stick from amazon?
    - is there ANY other way to reinstall lion or install a new os on this thing without physically taking the computer anywhere?

What a silly company , i have the same exact problem with my macbook pro and i've checked every topic that mention this problem and they didn't solve it .

  • How can I download Lion without the app store?

My friend bought his Macbook pro summer 2009 so whatever operating system that it came with (10.5 lepord I believe) did not download the app store when it updated. Now he wants to put lion on his macbook pro. Is there a way to download it without the app store? If not, how can he get the app store?
    Any help would be great!

Yes, you need to upgrade to Snow Leopard before upgrading to Lion. You can purchase Snow Lion from the online Apple Store, a brick-and-mortar Apple Store, or from Amazon.
Then you will have the App Store application and you can upgrade to Lion.

  • How do I download LION and do a clean install on a new disk?

I have a brand new HD which has not yet been formatted.  I would like to download Lion and instead of updating my Snow Leopard OS disk I would like to do a clean install on this new drive.
Do I first do a journaled format on the new drive...?  And if so how do I download LION from the APP store and pointn the install at the new target drive?

    How to Install Lion Successfully
    A. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions:
Boot from your current Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. Then select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    B. Make a Bootable Backup Using Restore Option of Disk Utility:
Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.
    C. Important - Please read before installing:
If you have a FireWire hard drive connected, disconnect it before installing the update unless you will boot from this drive and install the update on it. Reconnect it and turn it back on after installation is complete and you've restarted.
You may experience unexpected results if you have installed third-party system software modifications, or if you have modified the operating system through other means. (This does not apply to normal application software installation.)
The installation process should not be interrupted. If a power outage or other interruption occurs during installation, use the standalone installer (see below) from Apple Downloads to update.  While the installation is in progress do not use the computer.
    D. To upgrade:
Purchase and Download Lion from the App Store.
    E. If you want to make a bootable USB flash drive:
    Make Your Own Lion Installer

iPhoto app won't down load because My mac is a lion 10.7.5 I need 10.10 ? how do I download iPhoto, and other apps that won't download? They were uninstalled by mackeeper (with me as an unwitting accomplice Thanks
I've reinstalled lion os 10.7.5 and got the app store app back.
Even though iPhoto etc are purchased by me in app store, theres no way they'll download.

    then
    reinstall from the original source
    Could be
1 - the restore disks that came with the computer - if it came with CDs and you do not know where they are then contact Apple to see if they can be replaced
    or
2 - the iLife DVD that you purchased
    or
3 - the app store - log in under the Apple id used to purchase the software or to set up the computer - look under purchases - you might have to unhide or accept the Application first

  • How can i download lion from 10.6.8 because I can not find the download on the app store?

How can i download lion from 10.6.8 because I can not find the download on the app store?

The only way you could get Lion for free was if you had purchased a new Mac within a certain number of days before Lion's release. Buyers could then get a free upgrade to Lion. That offer is long gone. Otherwise, it's never been free.
Mavericks, 10.9.x is the first OS Apple has ever released for free to everyone (who's Mac can run it).

Before you can download free apps:
    1. Make sure you are using IOS 7 (ignore)
    2. Make sure your iPad is registered in My Support Profile.

  • I downloaded Lion from the app store on to my iMac and did not save it to a thumb before installing.  Do I have to buy it again to install on my Macbook Pro and iPad or is there another way to do that?

I downloaded Lion from the App Store on to my iMac and did not save it to a thumb before installing.  Do I have to buy it again to install  it on my Macbook Pro and iPad,  or is there another way to do that?
All my electronics are about a year old.   iPad is Model MB293LL (4.2.1) only wi-fi - no phone.
MacBook Pro is  OSX 10.6.8 Build 10K549.  Also have an AT&T iPhone that I basically use as a Palm, since I changed carriers.
    Thank you for your help.
ps: I got an error message and it looks like this did not get posted the first time.  2nd try.

Open the Mac App Store on your MacBook Pro
Hold the Option key and click on “Purchases”
Hold the Option key and click on “OS X Lion” from the purchased app list
“Installed’ should now say “Install” which allows you to download OS X Lion.
This assumes you are using the same Apple ID on both computers.
Lion does not get installed on an iPad. It runs iOS.

  • Will downloading Lion from the App Store (previously purchased) while on Mountain Lion erase my current OS?

    All,
I'm trying to download Lion from the App Store to make a bootable external hard drive. My concern is that the app store gives me a warning: "OS X 10.8 is already installed on this computer. Are you sure you want to download OS X 10.7?"
I'm not sure what this means and I would prefer not to risk erasing my current operating system. Does anyone have an idea?
    Thank you in advance.

Futhermore, I can't believe that the App Store allows you to download OS X Lion while you are in OS X Mountain Lion, because normally the App Store gives an error because you are running a newer Mac OS X.
If you just download OS X Lion, you won't lose OS X Mountain Lion, because just the installer will be downloaded onto the Applications folder. When the download finishes, the installer will show up, so close it, and use Lion Diskmaker to create an external drive with OS X Lion > http://liondiskmaker.com
As you are running OS X Mountain Lion, I recommend you to make an external drive with OS X Mountain Lion instead, if you can. That's because probably you will want to reinstall OS X Mountain Lion and not Lion

You can't download them; you can only sync previously downloaded copies from your iTunes library.

  • How to re(download) lion 10.7 when already updated to Mt. Lion 10.8

Is there any way to re(download) 10.7 from App Store after I have installed 10.8?
I do NOT have any (imaged) backup of my system with 10.7 installed (i.e. superduper, or time machine images) and when I attempt to re download it (the 10.7 app) from App Store, it tells me I already have 10.8 installed and am not permitted to install/download it.  Moreover, upon attempting to reinstall 10.7 (from 10.6 image back up) iot wasn't present/avaliable in the App Store (later it was discovered to be 'hidden' as an avaliable app - effectively forcing the upgrade to 10.8 - which I NEVER do (update o/s within in the first 4-6 months)    Grrr....
I wish to redownload 10.7 simply to have the executable o/s on a flash drive -moreover, since I have purchased the o/s I figure I should be allowed to have access (i.e. locally) to it, right?    I have already done so (local exectuable) with 10.8 successfully and now wish to do so with 10.7
So, I suspect I could reinstall 10.6 (snow leopard via clean disc install or timemachine backup) and then go to App store, redownload 10.7 (without executing it) and make the exectuable/bootable USB Flash.  Then update back to 10.7 which would allow for the more prudent (and experienced consumer) to wait a bit for the final update to 10.8  (which again, I already have saved locally).
This is a lot of extra work that I prefer not to have to do - Any alternate suggestions/tips is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.
    Nick D.

You will need to ring Apple and get a redemption code for Lion and download it from their link. From there I would be backing up data and aring disk to do a clean install.
    Cheers

  • How to re-download Lion from AppStore

    Hi,
I just clicked download Lion from AppStore, however, due to internet connection, it didn't finish with downloading the correct size and aborted. When I tried to install, it says download file is damaged. How can I re-download it ??
    Thanks,

    Hi, Thanks for the clarification.
I also intended to burn OSX "Lion" to DVD, however like many others found that the install package had vanished after installing "Lion".
I managed to re-download "Lion" after installing by opening the "App Store", then holding down "Option" key and clicking on purchased items (Keep holding down "Option" key). From purchached apps, "Lion" had now changed from "Installed" to "Install". While still holding down the "Option" key, I clicked "Install" and Lion is now downloading as we speak.
Again, thanks for the clarification. I had seen that you could download "Lion" again from the App store on other forums, however the process wasn't explianed very well and I couldn't quite get it to work.
I hope this helps others who are stuck.

  • How do I download Lion ?

I bought two Macs earlier this year; a Mac Mini and a MacBook Pro, both of which came with Lion pre-installed.
I upgreded to Mountain Lion on both machines when it came out, but neither are working with my Iomega network drive in the was I'd expect, so I had decided to revert to Lion, which has been pulled from the App Store.  I know that option clicking on the purchases tab will allow users to download the OS if they bought it through the App Store, but this doesn't seem to work if your OS came pre-installed.
Does anyone know how I can download the Lion installer to return both machines to the original OS?
    Thanks in advance.

That's the main problem - network drive is no longer fully accessible under ML.
I'm only saving files & documents to the DVD, then I'll roll the MBP back first.
The Mini has been in service a bit longer and will need a full back-up but the MBP is only 8 weeks old, so hopefully shouldn't be as big an issue !
    Thanks again!
