How to reach Struts variables in a JSP scriptlet?

First I would like to clarify, I know writing scriptlet code (eg database connect) in a JSP page is basicly wrong, but I have to make a project that way, because my Java teacher asked so.
My problem is the following: I have a struts-config.xml:

</struts-config>It creates a form-bean0 object, using my UserFormBean class.
This class has two variables: login and password. Of course it has the accessors
When the user tries to log in, the variables are set through struts-html tags:
<html:text property="login" size="6"/>After the neccessary action called, and the user could be verified, it forwards to a page called loggedIn.jsp
Now my problem is that I would like to reach the login variable, containing the username of the user. When I insert ${param.login} to the jsp code, it works. But I would like to have a variable in my scriptlet code, which contains the user name. param object are not accessible, and session object contains only a reference to form-bean0. I think I dont have to write use-bean tag, because struts framework automatically does this.

I may have used the term incorrectly. Basically I meant using the <jsp:include> tag to invoke a servlet directly. Then the servlet could send the output you need. That way you could keep things more modular.
So for example -- you say you have a servlet with these values. Maybe you could add some functionality to it so if it's invoked with a particular URL, it produces output displaying these values.
Then you could use <jsp:include> to invoke that new functionality via that URL.
Just an idea.

I need to replace single quotes and double quotes to be escaped because I pass them into javascript functions and set them as ID for div sections

but if the string contains ' single quotes it messes up the javascript or double quotes messes up the ID portion of the HTML tag
I know there is the JSTL function fn but I can't figure out how to do it properly in JSTL

But that gets tricky since the value portion is enclosed in quotes
So I was thinking of using a Scriptlet part instead.

Recipe for a headache if ever there was one.
However you must be strong and resist the temptations of the dark side (Scriptlet code)
My suggestion for cleaning this up - write your own static function for escaping javascript strings.

How to use jstl variable in a jsp page

Hi all,
I am new to JSTL and i want to access the value of jstl in jsp.
when i use the tag like below it is displaying the value ""
<c:out value="${ack}"/>
But as ack is string, i want to convert it into int. and i have written like
<c:set var="ackvalue" value="${ack}"/>
and int ack = Integer.parseInt(ackvalue);
But it is showing error like varialbe can not be resolved: ackvalue
can anybody please help me regarding this?

But my actual requirement is to use the ack value in
switch statement. if i can assign the value to a
String variable, then it si easy for me to proceed.

How to pass HTML text values to jsp scriptlet

I want a syntax for passing values from HTML forms to jsp scriplet
Now i use the code

<%i=Integer.parseInt(registration.phonenumber.value);%>
<%out.print(i);
request.getParameter(registration.phonenumber.value);%>
To compile this i got the error
package registration does not exist.
Is there any coding for corrct this error.
Anyone help me

HTML forms are CLIENT side,
JSP scriplets are SERVER side.
This means the syntax for both is not related whatsover.
Assuming registration is your HTMl form and phonumber is the name of the field you need the value from you use
request.getParameter("phonenumber"); to get the value.

How to access a variable from a dynamically included JSP page

I have a jsp (say main.jsp) using the following in its code :
<jsp:include page="menu.jsp" flush="true" />
I have a variable in menu.jsp which I would like to use in my main.jsp.
How do I get the value of the variable defined in menu.jsp ?
I called this variable in menu.jsp, Public, but this didnot help me use the value of that variable in main.jsp

I do notice the variable var1 has the value populated - in menu.jsp - (from View -->
Source in the browser) but for some reason not able to use it in main.jspI'm not quite sure of the way your jsps are structured from your code snippet but I think there is something to be aware of here that may be part of your problem, namely the difference between the include directive and the include action.
You are currently using the include action, this treats the included resource as a dynamic object - i.e. a request is sent to that resource and the resulting response is included in your page. So when you think of what there is no java variable actually included - you'll just get the resulting HTML that is generated by menu.jsp
The include directive, as in <%@include file=�menu.jsp � %>, on the other hand treats the resource as a static object. This means the actual bytes in the included resource are inserted into the including jsp and then the result of that is compiled and processed, effectively you are cutting and pasting the menu.jsp into your calling jsp. In this case the variable would be available to the calling jsp.
However this approach does bring other difficulties that may break your current code, you'll just have to try it and see what happens.

Is it possible to share or use the variables which are declared are used by JSTL in JSP expression or scriplet code and in Java Script.
Example:
This Works:
<fmt:set var="test" value="JSTL" />
<fmt:out value="${test}" />
But, this gives error:
<% out.println(test) %>
And passing the value of variable 'test' to Java Script code also gives error.

If your tags use a different scope then you'll nee to access them accordingly e.g this will work
<c:set var="test" value="JSTL" scope="session" />
<c:out value="${test}" />
<% out.println(session.getAttribute("test")); %>

How to create a session by AppsLocalLogin.jsp

first, in auth.jsp we check fnd_global.user_name against "ANONYMOUS" to see whether user is logged on.
if not, we invoke AppsLocalLogin.jsp to create a session.

the login page shows, page re-directed to report.jsp.
however fnd_global.user_name doesn't work. it still returns "ANONYMOUS".
if user logged on OA normally, then the whole thing worked. it seems fnd_global.user_name doesn't like the way we login.
how should we invoke AppsLocalLogin.jsp so it'll create a proper session?
part of report.jsp:

conn = ctx.getJDBCConnection();
sql = "select fnd_global.user_name from dual";
(we tried to invoke RF.jsp instead.
doesn't work because we don't know how to pass the param1 to report.jsp thru RF.jsp)

Passing a variable from Javascript to java variable in a JSP.

Here is simple test Ive been messing around with.
How do I assign the value that was selected in the radio button to a java variable in my JSP here. Javascript being client side and JSPs being serverside makes this difficult.

Please excuse me for appearing dim but my JSP skills are rather weak.
I dynamically create rows in a table from an Iterator. If the mainTopic is news then I need a third column to appear with radio buttons. I have all this done. When a radio button is selected and the UPLOAD button is selected I need to know which of the values in the table was selected.
When I ran the test below the selected value was null. Can you help me?

1. Select Project : Enterprise Project..
which will create u 1. StrutsConfig.xml
2. all tld files
3. Go for Project properties
1. add all jar files
2. select all lib files and then submit.
if u come to Application side

Variables defined in JSP include files.

i was wondering how to access the variable defined in a JSP include file from the page where it is included.

If you are thinking of scriptlets, then you would do it in the same manner that you would access variables local to your jsp. A word of caution - jsp pre-compilation may not work.
A neater solution would be store it as an attribute in 'page' scope.

What are server variables?
In jsp's you can use the following implicit objects:
1) request
2) config
3) application
which correspond to the HttpServletRequest, ServletConfig, and ServletContext objects in a servlet. For instance,
application.getRealPath(...);
The getRealPath() method of a ServletContext object will get you the full path to the specified file. If you use getRealPath("/"), you'll get the root directory of your application-- in case that is what you are after. You can also try:
request.getContextPath().
