How to read disk serial no. in solaris2.6 ?

Hello ,
I want to get the serial nos. of all the disks attached. Anyone help ?
regards

Hi, <br><br>
You haven't said if you wanted to do this programmatically<br>
or just using a command. Also you can get more information<br>
out of SCSI disks than IDE disks.<br><br>
1. If you are after a command, "format" is the answer.<BR>
On a SCSI disk, once you run the "format" command, select the<br>
disk you want and choose "inquiry" from the menu.<br>
It will then print something like:<br>
<pre>
format> inquiry
Vendor: SEAGATE
Product: ST34371W SUN4.2G
Revision: 7462
</pre>
On an IDE disk, choose the "current" command on the menu<BR>
and it will print something like:<br>
<pre>
format> current
Current Disk = c0t0d0
<ST39111A cyl 17660 alt 2 hd 16 sec 63>
/pci@1f,0/pci@1,1/ide@3/dad@0,0
</pre>
I am afraid that as far as serial number's are concerned, it's<br>
the only sort of information you'll get though.<br><br><br>
2. If you are after a programmatical way to access this<br>
information, this is what you can do:<br>
<br>
For a SCSI disk, use the uscsi ioctl command. Check the man page<br>
or uscsi(7I) and ioctl(2).<br>
For an IDE disk, use the DKIOCGVTOC ioctl command to get the <br>
v_asciilabel field of the vtoc structure. Check the hdio(7I) <br>
man page for more details.<br>
<br><br>
Hope this helps,<br>

    Please do let me know how to read the hard disk
    unique(serial) number provided by manufactruer using
    java program....If you're in windows you can call "vol" on the command line.
    That shows your hard disk serial number. You could run the command with Runtime.exec() and capture the output.
    Ps. The hard disk serial number is not provided by the manufacturer.
    Hard disk serial numbers are actually generated based on the time the hard disk was formatted. So it's more like a string generated from a timestamp.

  • Ix2 how to read disk on PC

    What type of file system does the ix2 use with hard drives? For safety, I'd like to know how to recover data from the drives if the ix2 fails. I do not like the idea of relying on some hidden proprietary format that requires the ix2 to be able to retrieve my data in case of failure.
    I've looked on Windows and it lists it as some Microsoft RAW format.
    I've tried on Linux (Debian) and it says it some sort of RAID file system, but it still can't read it or I don't know how. Its not NTFS, ext2,3,4.
    Anyone know how to read the disk formatted by the ix2 from a PC running any operating system?
    Thanks

    If you found a reliable way to move the drive between devices that is up to you, but we do not recommend it or support it. If this is going to hold important data then you really should put in two drives in a raid 1 AND have another device with the data on it, such as the original computer, an external hard drive, or another NAS. Relying on one disk and hoping you can take it to a computer in the event of failure is very risky, if the drive itself dies or a problem when moving it the data will be lost.
    FYI, With firmware version is 4.1.102.29716 it will be in EXT4.
    We always recommend using 2 drives. If you have installed two new drives in an ix2-dl, it will automatically create a RAID array with the new drives.
    Changing the RAID Protection Type
    Use the web management interface for your ix2 if you want to change the RAID configuration on your ix2.
    Access the device console to manage your ix2.
    Click the Storage icon in the left column:
    Click on Drive Management in the main window:
    You will see an image of the ix2 showing the installed hard drives.
    To change the RAID configuration, click the Settings icon and select the desired option from the Protection drop-down menu.
    If desired, you can change the setting for Disk Write Caching, and enable or disable the periodic consistency check.
    Click Apply to save your configuration changes.
    Allow a few minutes for the RAID array to build.

  • How to read the serial number of PXI Module in my C/C++ program.

    I am using PXI NI-FGEN controlling it by my C/C++ program. I would like to read the serial number of the hardware. Are there any methods to do it ?
    Actually I could not find any functions and attributes in the programming manual. So I am posting this as the last chance. For example, it looks possible to me if we can access NI-MAX in my C/C++ program. Because NI-MAX displays the serial number.
    Any information would be appreciated.

    It looks like your answer is in the NI-FGEN help file. Go to NI-FGEN -> Documentation -> NI Signal Generators Help
    From that help the inforamtion you are looking for is under the following heading:

  • How to read Disk Device Busy (%) in GC?

    Hello All,
    I got the following alert in GC 10.2.0.3:
    Target Name=hostname
    Target Type=Host
    Host=mccmrkwbm007
    Metric=Disk Device Busy (%)
    Metric Value=95.31
    Disk Device=ssd31
    Timestamp=***
    Severity=Critical
    Message=Disk Device ssd31 is 95.31% busy.
    Notification Rule Name=Host Availability and Critical States
    Notification Rule Owner=SYSMAN
    Unfortunately, the disk device ssd31 doesn't correlate with any file system on this host. How did GC come up with the device name ssd31?
    Still researching in the documentation but thought I would post here just in case someone has seen this. I saw some posts about the documentation bug but that's about it so far.
    Cheers.

    I also saw under the metric Disk Activity the list of devices that GC can see...
    They are all identified as ssd#... how do i correlate this with the friendly file system?

  • How to find Hard Disk Serial

    Hi, I have a program written using AIR for a client, and I dont want him to make millions of copies of my software, I would like to know exactly how many copies of my software he is using, so I figure, thats easy I will bound the software to the hardware, the hard disk serial.  Than one problem surfaced, how the heck do I find the hard disk serial using AS3?
    Or is there a easier way for me to keep track of the software? the clients will install the software on machines that do not have internet access.  And the amount of software is not a big number, maybe 50 copies/machines per month.
    Thanks in advance.

    Is it installed on an other system? If so you can see the serial number in the About Aperture window.
    If not ant you wiped your disk and Aperture is no longer installed there is no way to find the serial number apart from the hard copy you had when you bought it.
    See Pro Application Replacement Serial Numbers and give Apple a call. They are pretty good at working with you to try and recover the serial number.

  • Reading Hard Disk Serial No.

    How can I read hard disk serial# from oracle forms?..I need it to implement security on login system...so that system could'nt be run on any other system.

    Kashif,
    If you had searched the forum then the first searched result would have solved your worries
    i made a sample form and posted it on OTN last month
    please follow this link and download the smaple form
    Hard Disk Serial No. Retrieval Example!!
    If you have problems using the sample form then follow these steps to make your own
    follow these steps...
    Make a new form, new block, new canvas...
    go to layout editor of the canvas
    Now:
    - Create an ActiveX Control Item (OCX) on your canvas.
    - Right click it and select 'Insert Object...'.
    - A list will come
    - Press 'H' on keyboard
    - It will come to a selection "HardwareInfo Control'
    - select it and then press ok!.
    - In the main Form biulder menu 'Program', choose 'Import OLE Library Interfaces'
    - again Press 'H' on keyboard
    - and see to find out a selection in the list: "HardwareInfo.HardWareInfo.ctrl1'
    - select it and then u will see something each in Method Package(s) and the Event Package(s) lists.
    - Select both the Method Package(s) and the Event Package(s). Make sure they're highlighted.
    i.e "_dhardwareinfo and _dHardwareinfoEvents"
    - Now press OK
    - Verify the existance of 5 new programme units in your Foms Program units section in object navigator:
    i.e.
    HARDWAREINFOLib_CONSTANTS
    HARDWAREINFO_HardWareIn_EVENTS
    - Now go to layout editor again and make a new single display_item (non-db)
    - make a push button..
    copy the following code in ur wehn-buton-pres tigger, dont forget ot change the
    'your_block.your_activex_item_name' p[ortion in the following code with correct block and OCX item name
    DECLARE
    VAR oleobj;
    BEGIN
    VAR := :ITEM('your_block.your_activex_item_name').interface;
    :ur_display_item_name := HARDWAREINFO_DHardWareInfo.HardDisk1SerialNumber(VAR);
    END;
    now run the form and see what serial no it shows..
    also how maany hard disk u have on ur pc the .dll files can show upto four hard disk serial nos
    look closely this 'HardDisk1SerialNumber' of the above:
    :ur_display_item_name := HARDWAREINFO_DHardWareInfo.HardDisk1SerialNumber(VAR);
    u can see the '1' in the 'HardDisk1SerialNumber' is the no of system hard disk..u may try it by changing to HardDisk2SerialNumber, HardDisk3SerialNumber, HardDisk4SerialNumber
    regards

  • How do I stop Serial "VISA Read" from giving me packets instead of available bytes.

    Dear Labvillians,
    Highlight:
    How do I stop serial "VISA read" from giving me packets instead of bytes?
    Background:
    I have a system that serially publishes 14 byte packets on a semi-regular interval.
    At busy times, the producer of these these packets queues the data, effectively producing super-packets in multiples of 14 bytes sometimes as large as 8 packets (112 bytes).
    My protocol handler has been designed to processes bytes, packets or super-packets.
    My application now has multiple devices and the order of message processing is critical to correct functionality.
    My observation is that the VISA read waits until the end of a packet/ super-packet before passing the data to the application code. (See Plot Below)
    My expectation is that VISA read should give me available bytes, and not get too smart for itself and wait for a packet.
    I have observed this on PXI, Embedded PC, cFP and most recently, cRIO
    I have experimented with the cRIO's Scan interface rate, which helps with reducing the packet backlog but doesn't resolve to sub-packet byte read.
    I understand that one solution is to Write FPGA code to handle it and pass the bytes through R/T-FIFO, and there are some great examples on this site.
    Unfortunately this doesn't help with non FPGA devices.
    I have also dabbled in event based serial reads but it is diabolical on vxWorks devices.
    Any Help is appreciated

  • How can I get serial numbers or the free versions of Adobe, Air, Flash Player 14, and Reader XI Pro

    How can I get serial numbers or the free versions of Adobe, Air, Flash Player 14, and Reader XI Pro that I had installed on my computer before Microsoft crashed my computer and I had to do a fresh install? I finished reinstalling Win 8.1Pro on my computer thanks to Microsoft Lvl 1 Techies corrupting my Command Structure so nothing would work. I had recently taken a picture of my installed programs (control panel, uninstall programs list) so that I would be able to reinstall everything I needed. I can't seem to find an email for the Reader which I remember paying for, the others I believe were free installs. Can anyone help me out.

  • How can Java read VC++ serialized achieve file

    After finally realizing Java is much more powerful than C++, I am currently transferring my VC++ codes to Java and having a problem on how to read my old VC++ serialized achieve files. In java.io, can readObject() do the same job as VC++'s Serialize(ar)?
    In VC++ codes, my data was structured as the following:
    struct TickData {
         time_t     time;
         double     price;
         int     size;
    CList<TickData, TickData &> m_tickList[TICKER_MAX];
    m_tickList[nId].Serialize(ar); // VC++ data was saved this way
    Does anyone know what java method and how I should use to read all my old VC++ serialized files?
    Help on this will be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

    Unless you find some library somwhere, I strongly suggest to write a conversion tool in VC++.
    It takes a serialized file as input and spits out a file in a language independent format: XML,
    CSV, INI, Java properties, whatever. You Java program will use this format, not serialization,
    so you will never have this kind of problems in the future.
