How to read embeded Timecodes

Hello,
i'm not sure if i should post this here or in the ActionScript 3.0 subforum but i hope it's alright
we're enconding a livestream from a webcam with FMLE 3.0. for our project we need to embed the system time as a timecode into the stream (no device timecode)
we need the system time to synchronize events to whatever happens on camera (somewhat like live subtitles)
the "subtitles" are written into an XML file and transmitted seperately, on the client they're supposed to be put together
everything else in the project works as it's supposed to except that we don't know how to receive the timing information needed for propper synchronisation
we tried various versions of this: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashMediaLiveEncoder/3.0/Using/WS5b3ccc516d4fbf351e63e3d11c10 4ba9cd-7ffe.html
onFI gives us problems, it's not defined and we can't find how it's supposed to be defined ... it seems to only work with device time codes
we also read something about AMF but we don't know how to apply that either
most of what we're able to find is about device time codes and doesn't seem to be usable with the embeded system time
could you point us in the post a solution to this problem or point us in the right direction?
we could also focus on a completely different solution, but we've no idea how else to solve this so if you have a better idea we would like to hear it.
thanks, Discord123

edit4: after various changes most works without error messages
the programm doesn't do what we want it to do though
we do have some concerns with i, the for loop, the info object and info.st
here is the onFi part,the whole timecode source can be found here: http://pastebin.com/39kMgXFb
function onFi(info:Object)
     trace("onFi works");
     var timecode:String; // Timecode generated by capture device
     var systemDate:String; // System date "sd" embedded by Flash Media  Live Encoder
     var systemTime:String; // System time "st"embedded by Flash Media  Live Encoder
     var i:String;
     trace("info" +info);  //info displays "[object NetStream]"
     for( i in info)    //i is null, an object is compared to a string
      { trace("for");
        if(i == "st")
           {trace("if");
          systemTime = info.st //string formatted as hh:mm:ss.ms
      trace("st"+info.st);  // causes error #1069: property st for flash.net.NetStream not found and no default value exists. at MethodInfo-626(), at MethodInfo-625()
      trace(systemTime);         //for now it just displays null

    How do I put timecode on the storyline.  In FCP 7 there was a time code reader that read the actual TC on the source material.  There isn't one in FCP 10.1...Any recommendations???

    TC has not been lost...skimmer shows source TC.
    Nanoflash external recorder via SDI on a Sony PMW-EX3.
    Ok so Compressor will show source TC on an individual clip, good I didn't know this and it will be helpful.
    My scenario.  I build a timeline with a whole days shooting involving many different clips and build a Sequence from that-editing out the off camera questions/mistakes etc.  In the past I would export with source TC with a Timecode Reader filter applied.  Now, it is a TC Generator filter that is available that starts from 00:00.
    1. Possible solution, forget the source TC since I have a timeline built with (counter) TC on it and send that to client or get Apple to add it in the future.
    2. Apply TC Generator on a clip by clip basis and manually change the TC to match source material.  Probably too, much effort though.

  • How do I import a file with embedded timecode?

    I'm tryimg to import files with embedded timecode but FCP is not reading the embedded code and is assigning new code with 00 hr timecode.
    Is there a way to get FCP to read info from the file header?

    The files I am trying to import are are HD quicktime files (1920x1080 23.98 fps) with all timecode and reel# info embedded. When I import them into final cut, all my reel numbers show AUX and all timecode reels start with 00 hr timecode. I'm trying to find a way to get FCP to read the embedded info off the file header.
    I am finishing on a Smoke, which has options to read the info from the header and I'm getting it no problem. But our offline editors are not able to read that same code in their FCP 7 systems.

  • $5 Starbucks card to first successful answer: how to import midi timecode into Logic Express 9 from Roland VS-880 or Ensoniq ASR-10

    I will literally mail a $5 Starbucks card or gift $5 via paypal to the first person whose response gets me success.  Then after all responses are provided and I'm successful with my issue, I'll also raffle off $5 to one of ALL respondents by random pick.
    Problem/question:
    I can't figure out how to import midi timecode data from either an Ensoniq ASR-10 or Roland VS-880 Vxpanded into Logic Express 9, so I can then use Logic Express 9 as the master.  No manuals seem to explain that; I just can't find it.
    Background/basics:
    1.  My ultimate goal will be to move all midi data from the Ensoniq ASR-10 floppies and all digital audio files from the VS-880 into Logic Express 9.  Once the midi timing is imported into a Logic Express 9 file, I'll import the data from the Ensoniq & Roland via steps 2a & 2b below.
    1a.  Ten years ago I somehow (am in the process of re-learning what I did 10 years ago) imported the midi timing into the Roland VS-880 Vxpanded from the ASR-10, and then used the VS-880 as the Master to control the ASR-10.   So my current status is that I use the Roland VS-880 as the master, and the Ensoniq ASR-10 as the slave.
    2.  FYI for anyone who might be in the same boat, wanting to transfer stuff from an Ensoniq ASR-10 and Roland VS-880 to the computer:
    2a.  I will import all midi sequence data from my ASR-10 floppy disks via a utility purchased here, which will all a PC to read Ensoniq-formatted disks, and then just hopefully cut/paste midi files into Logic Express 9 (FYI only):  www.chickensys.com
    2b.  Then will import all the individual WAV files from my Roland VS-880 to Logic Express 9 using a method learned here (FYI only): http://www.vsplanet.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=985974&PHP SESSID=b1d2f57be4a1d37d49787400213b22df
    2c.  I'll then combine them all into Logic Express 9.
    So - how the heck do I capture/import the midi timecode into Logic from either the roland or ensoniq using midi?
    I'm don't think that cutting/pasting the midi data into a Logic Express 9 sequence file (step 2a above) will do that, because there are all kinds of tempo & time signature changes in the midi files unfortunately.
    THANK YOU and Merry Christmas!!
    Andy

    OK doesn't look possible.  Closing discussion.

  • To read embedded PDF objects in .xlsx file

    Hello,
    We have a requirement to read the embedded PDF objects in excel 2007 file (.xlsx).
    We tried doing this with the ZIP approach and found that the contents of embedded objects are saved in oleObject1.bin.
    Now this .bin file is of compound file binary format and we don't know how to read contents from this file.
    Does any one knows anything about this or is there any other approach to read the pdf.
    Regards,
    Mandeep

    We are able to extract the PDF file data from OleObject1.bin file.
    Below is the code to extract the PDF file.
    DATA: lv_h type xstring,
               lv_object type xstring,
               lv_pdf     type xstring,
               lv_len type i.
    lv_h = '255044462D'.  " where this value is binary representation of '%PDF".
    FIND FIRST OCCURRENCE OF lv_h IN lv_object  IN BYTE MODE MATCH OFFSET lv_len.
    lv_pdf = lv_object+lv_len.
    Now LV_PDF will contain PDF data in XSTRING format.

  • How to read XMP metadata from a Jpeg

    This seems like it should be a no-brainer, but I can't find any classes to do this ?? I can find classes to read song titles from MP3 files, I want to do similar with jpeg image files.
    In photoshop and lightroom you can set up titles and captions (and copyright info) in the metadata. When you save a jpeg this gets embedded in the file.
    How to read this info and parse it and use it once you have loaded it into a BitMapData???

  • How to read weblogic user/password within a J2EE app ?

    All,
         There is an J2EE that exposes a webservice and the service can not be secured with ws-security since the service is an exact implementation of an standard that does not mandate  ws-secutiry and only insists on SSL/TLS. The application however needs a legitimate authenticated weblogic user for the rest of its work and hence the app has to read a known user created in the weblogic and then read its password as well and authenticate  within the app and use that authenticated subject. User can create this predefined user in weblogic and we may ask user to store the same weblogic password also in a CSF like OPSS and then have the app read the CSF, but since the password is available in the weblogic internal ldap, we want to leverage that and read the user's password using any of the weblogic mbean's APIs. Can anyone provide a pointer on how to read a user's password within the Weblogic's embedded ldap ?
         We referred to this Developing with the User and Role API - 11g Release 1 (11.1.1) & 6 Managing Security Realms with JMX but could not successfully get it working with J2EE app (Servlet/Filter).

    You can use JMX

    Hi I have simple question regarding documentation availability.
    How to read SYstemstate level 266 dump trace file?
    I tried googling it but didnt find any good article?

    Hi,
    It is supposed to graph frequency content vs time, and the display I get comes all black. Look at the attachments for the load state, the first one is the legacy SW and the second one is the modified one.
     I put probes on them, and the legacy one gets the 250,000 from the Value embedded. The modified one it is supposed to get it from the sample rate path, please let me know if this is enough info, thanks.

  • Embeded Timecode in MPEG1/2 files

    Hi,
    I am trying to find any information regarding embedded SMPTE timecode in an MPEG 1/2 file. I am using a Digital Rapids encoding server to encode a Beta SP tape into the MPEG 1/2 files that I need. I am able to use a deck control feature that utilizes the TC from the beta tape and allows me to create in and out points for the encodes. According to the Digital Rapids support I can embed the source timecode into the the stream into Line 21 as a CC of sorts. I've turned on the settings I need as prescribed by DR, now I need to be able to USE the embedded timecode inside the NLE of choice. The goal is to be able to edit a proxy file (MPEG 1) and then be able to have the edits transfered to the higher resolution MPEG 2 files. Should I be able to pull the embedded TC from the MPEG 1/2 files and view it in FCP or APP? Any helpful information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    The reason why ffmpegX and HandBrake H.264 video does not work on the iPod is because its profile is Main instead of Baseline.
    I would suggest to use MPEG-4 video instead because:
    1- It is a lot faster to encode (about 9x faster than H.264).
    2- It can be up to 480x480 (if you want to play it on a TV it will look better than 320x240).
    3- You can use HandBrake or ffmpegX.
    I encoded a couple of clips using HandBrake with these settings (source is a DVD):
    - File format: MP4 file
    - Codecs: MPEG-4 video / AAC Audio
    - Encoder: XviD (FFmpeg is a bit faster and same quality)
    - Average Bitrate (kbps): 500
    - 2-pass encoding
    - Audio 44100 Hz at 128 kbps
    - Keeping the aspect ratio I took the width down to 480
    - Deinterlace picture selected

  • DPX exported files have no embedded timecode

    Hello.
    I'm exporting a sequence of DPX files from Premiere Pro CS5 (Mac version in case it's relevant) and they don't contain embedded timecodes.
    Looking at the metadata, every frame shows the timecode as ff:ff:ff:ff
    I really need these frames to contain the timecode information.
    (In fact I can't see why anyone would work with DPX files and not want to have the timecode information in there!)
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • How to get scource timecode from AVCHD into CS6?

    The scource material I record with my Sony FS-100 camera records timecode and displays it when played back in the camera. Importing the media into CS6 (and CS5) all clips start at 00:00:00:00 no matter how I select the timecode display.
    Importing directly from the SD card as .MTS files or with the Sony software as .M2TS doesn't make a difference.
    I have to edit a project shot with two camera's and separate audio, all with a synced identical timecode.
    How can I get Premiere to recognize the scource timecode of the clips?

    podieopos wrote:
    Which causes some other difficulties. The camera starts naming the clips from scratch after inserting a new SD card, starting with 00001.mts again, creating the danger of errors with double filenames...
    Any solutions for that?
    This is the single biggest problem with AVCHD, in my opinion, and it makes no sense to me why it works this way - especially having worked with P2 media which shares a lot of the same metadata controls but also has unique file naming.
    The general workaround is to make sure that you put your SD contents for each card in it's own unique folder on your hard drive. How unique you want to make that folder is up to you. For me, a typical project is this:
    D:\ drive (or whatever letter you have)Project folder (so something like "197 HS Graduation Project 2012")Video
    ReelA_01 (this folder is for the 1st SDHC card from camera A)
    ReelA_02 (this is the 2nd SDHC card from camera A
    ReelB_01 (1st SDHC card from camera B)
    ReelC_01 (1st SDHC card from camera C)
    You get the idea though...unique folder for each card so I more or less know where everything is.
    I create a similar folder structure for the bins inside PPro, so I have:
    Video
    ReelA_01
    ReelA_02
    Again, you get the picture. It's important to keep track of your media because one day you might move your project or your media files to a different drive or into a different directory and have those clips go offline inside PPro. You'll be able to reconnect all your lost media successfully IF you have kept good about your media in the project bin as well as your hard drive. Come up with whatever naming system or directory structure you want, but my advice is to make it as clear and understandable to you as possible and to be CONSISTENT every single time.

  • How do I ignore timecode when capturing?

    I'm trying to capture using a Canon GL2. I'd like to capture my footage, but it keeps stopping because of time code breaks. How do I ignore timecode and just capture now?

    There are some subtleties to the dub business.
    If you start the recording before you start the playback, the recording machine will lay down new TC and you get an unbroken TC with no time of day info on the tape. In essence, the whole tape was created at the moment you hit 'record' to start the dub. As you observe, Start/Stop Detect is useless on this tape as there is nothing to detect.
    If you start the playback before you start recording, the recording machine will use the existing TC, The new tape inherits all the TC properties (good or bad) of the existing tape. Useful when you do not want to use your camera master in your edit deck.
    The suggestion to dub the tape in this thread is intended to overwrite a discontinuous TC with a continuous one. Having continuous timecode is infinitely more important than start/stop detect.
    x
    ps In this particular thread the cause of the "time code breaks" could also have been the result of:
    a. the use of the wrong firewire capture protocol. With Canon cameras, it should be Firewire BASIC.
    b. attempting to capture to an external firewire drive with the camera on the same bus. Canon's implementation of firewire can screw up capturing in this arrangement.
    c. trying to play a tape recorded on a Canon on another machine. the TC track written by Canon cameras can prove problematic.
    and on and on and on ....
    one final point - when you use 'non-controllable device' with TC based material (DV for example), TC info IS captured along with the file. All 'non-controllable device' does is turn off the machine control portion of the protocol so it won't hang looking for something that is not there.
