How to reduce sound gain in Captivate 6

Hi All,
Have recorded my voice overs over weeks and using a mike and the end product  has changed. The last recording session  my voice sounds  like it has more bass compared to my first recording. Any ideas how to fix this please?  Also when limited to the Captivate recording which is the best device to use? digital mike or jack mic? Also i am now also getting nosie in the background which sounds like laptop machine noise. So do how to I fix the settings in my latop to filter our this noise. I am using XP SP3
Thanks in advance.

With some laptops you must disconnect them from the wall socket before you attempt to record voiceover otherwise you can pick up a surprising amount of noise from the power supply.
If your laptop fan keeps cutting in and making noise, you may need to get hold of a pressurised can of clean air to blow out the exhaust vents on the cooling fins.  They can get quite clogged with dust and lint over time and no laptop manufacturer that I am aware of has ever made it easy to get inside and remove the lint from the fan side.  (Planned obsolescense?)
Postion your microphone (which should ideally be a very directional mic) pointing away from the laptop.  I prefer to use a second monitor which allows me to move the laptop even further away.
With your voice, make sure you don't record straight after eating a meal or drinking latte or any other drink that involves dairy products.  These tend to create phlegm and change your voice.  Experiment with different types of drinks to see which one seems to clean up your voice.  I find Coca Cola works for me. Some professional singers use Brandy or other similar poisons before going on to perform.  Lucky them.  You'll never get permission to do this in a corporate environment! Either way, you need to use the same routine to try and duplicate similar conditions for your vocal chords.

  • How to reduce PowerPoint to fit captivate 6 project

I want to pull in a created PowerPoint to my Captivate project. My Captivate project needs to be 640x480 but some of the PowerPoints come in at a much larger size. When I reduce them the images are distorted. How can I alter the PowerPoint to come in smaller from the beginning?

You can adjust the size of your presentation in Power Point by going to the design ribbon in the 2010 version.  Then select page set up.  It will return a pop up box that allows you to adjust the size of your power point.  You may have to figure out the number of pixels per inch before setting the size in Power Point.
I use Power Point almost exclusively to create our recordings.  I never have an issue with importing the larger size Power Point and then using the resize or rescale option.  It does appear blury on the screen but it clears up great upon publising.  Before trying to resize the Power Point I would suggest you publish your file to see if it clear enough for your end product.

  • How to reduce the level of free text / direct purchasing

A common problem at all sites is how to reduce the level of free text / direct / non catalogue based purchasing. This is where users enter an account assignment and free text instead of using an existing material number.
This is often the case because it is too "dificult" for the user to search and find the correct material number.
How have other sites handled this?
has anyone found a solution that if a user enters lets say "paper" into the free text box, a pop up appears with a match on possible materials with the word "paper" in the short description? This sounds like a pretty easy function to implement? Does anyone have the code?

Yes this works, but you have to tell that the user has to enter the text  in the material number field, then SAP will search thru the database.

  • How to include closed captions in captivate?

How to include closed captions in Captivate? I found that the
option is available in Accessibility, but it is disabled. How to
enable it? Anyone can help me please?

    Welcome to our community, prabuu77
Closed Captioning is not available in Captivate until you add
a sound file. The thought is that you add a sound file containing
audio narration. Then you may add Closed Captioning.
Once you add a sound file to a slide (tap the F6 key and you
may add a sound file) you should see a Speaker icon on the slide in
the Film Strip. Click the Speaker icon and the menu that appears
    should list Closed Captioning.

  • How to Reduce Updating Time

Does anyone have any ideas about how to reduce the amount of time it can take to make updates/revisions to captivate files? I am in a technical writing position where I do the writing, editing, illustrating, and creating captivate files. Quite often, I do not have the time to spend ensuring that my captivate files timing is ample or updating screen shots in the case of frequent software updates. We place captivate into FrameMaker or Robohelp. Thanks!

  • How to create new layers in captivate?

    Hi,
how to create new layers in captivate's timeline?
    Regards,
    krishnaraj

    Hi krishnaraj
Sounds like you may be expecting Captivate to work
identically to Flash. Sorry my friend, it doesn't work this way.
For starters, notice that Captivate uses slides.
Each slide has its own timeline. So what you see in the timeline
area is not for the whole movie.
As you add objects (Buttons, Click Boxes, Images, Rollover
Areas, Etc.) the object is placed on the timeline and assumes what
you are referring to as a layer. You then control which object is
in front of another object by its relative position in the layer.
This is called the "Stacking Order".
    Hopefully this helps... Rick

  • How to Reduce Clusetering Factor on Table?

I am seeing a very high clustering factor on an SDO geometry table in our 10g RAC DB on our Linux boxes. This slow performance is repeateable on othe r Linux as well as Solaris DBs for the same table. Inserts go in at a rate of 44 milliseconds per insert and we only have about 27000 rows in the table. After viewing a VERY slow insert of about 600 records into this same table, I saw the clustering factor in OEM. The clustering factor is nearly identical to the # rows in the table indicating that useability of the index is fairly low now. I have referenced Metalink Tech Note 223117.1 and, while it affirms what I've seen, I am still trying to determine how to reduce the Clustering Factor. The excerpt on how to do this is below:
"The only method to affect the clustering factor is to sort and then store the rows in the table in the same order as in they appear in the index. Exporting rows and putting them back in the same order that they appeared originally will have no affect. Remember that ordering the rows to suit one index may have detrimental effects on the choice of other indexes."
Sounds great, but how does one actually go about storing the rows in the table in the same order as they appear in the index?
We have tried placing our commits after the last insert as well as after every insert and the results are fairly neglible. We also have a column of type SDE.ST_GEOMETRY in the table and are wondering if this might also be an issue. Thanks in advance for any help.
    Matt Sauter

Joel is right that the clustering factor is going to have absolutely no effect on the speed of inserts. The clustering factor is merely one, purely statistical, factor the optimiser makes use of to determine how to perform a SELECT statement (i.e., do I bother to use this index or not for row retrieval). It's got nothing to do with the efficiency of inserts.
If I were you, I'd be looking at factors such as excessive disk I/O taking place for other reasons, inadequate buffer cache and/or enqueue and locking issues instead.
If you're committing after every insert, for example, then redo will have to be flushed (a commit is about the only foreground wait event -i.e., one that you get to experience in real time- that Oracle has, so a commit after every insert's really not a smart idea). If your redo logs are stored on, say, the worst-performing disk you could buy that's also doing duty as a fileserver's main hard disk, then LGWR will be twiddling its thumbs a lot! You say you've tested this, and that's fine... I'm just saying, it's one theoretical possibility in these sorts of situations. You still want to make sure you're not suffering any log writer-related waits, all the same.
Similarly, if you're performing huge reads on a (perhaps completely separate) table that is causing the buffer cache to be wiped every second or so, then getting access to your table so your inserts can take place could be problematic. Check if you've got any database writer waits, for example: they are usally a good sign of general I/O bottlenecks.
Finally, you're on a RAC... so if the blocks of the table you're writing to are in memory over on another instance, and they have to be shipped to your instance, you could have high enqueue waits whilst that shipment is taking place. Maybe your interconnect is not up to the job? Maybe it's faulty, even, with significant packet loss along the way? Even worse if someone's decided to switch off cache fusion transfer for the datafiles invoved (for then block shipment happens by writing them to disk in one instance and reading from disk in the other). RAC adds a whole new level of complexity to things, so good luck tracking that lot down!!
Also, maybe you're using Freelists and Freelist groups rather than ASSM, so perhaps you're fighting for access to the freelist with whatever else is happening on your database at the time...
You get the idea: this could be a result of activity taking place on the server for reasons completely unconnected with your insert. It could be a feature of Spatial (with which not many people will be familiar, so good luck if so!) It could be a result of the way your RAC is configured. It could be any number of things... but I'd be willing to bet quite a bit that it's got sod-all to do with the clustering factor!
You'll need to monitor the insert using a tool like Insider or Toad so you can see if waits and so on happen, more or less in real time -or start using the built-in tools like Statspack or AWR to analyze your workload after it's completed- to work out what your best fix is likely to be.

  • How to reduce background noise using garageband?

I have a video file that contains quite a bit of background noise (just basic camera noise mostly) and I was wondering how to reduce or remove that using Garageband. I have read in other discussions that I could use the graphic equalizer, but I don't know what that is or how to use it. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I could get rid of this background noise?

I'd suggest looping a piece of silence in your sound in Garageband (using the c key to turn cycling on) and listening to just the background noise. Then open a 31-band EQ as an effect on the track and start pulling down frequencies. If it is mainly hissing and rumble, you might be able to eliminate much of it using EQ.
Another solution is to open the Visual EQ and check the analyze box, and then loop/cycle play back your track so it loops just the silence with noise. This will allow you to see in the Visual EQ window what frequencies make up your background noise. Then I'd suggest using a 31-band EQ and gently start pulling down the frequencies that are dominant in your noise. Go carefully and listen as you do it, you might be affecting they sound that you want.
To avoid making the audio you want sound thin and hollow, think about these aspects:
For male voices, most of the wanted sound is between 125 Hz and 8 KHz
For female voices: between 300 Hz and 12 KHz
So basically drag the faders on the EQ on the frequencies outside this range. I'd suggest a 45 to 60 degree slope down on the EQ, so it's not a harsh transition.
It does depend on your source audio. Is it music? Speech? I use the above as a guide You have to experiment and listen as you go. It helps to turn the EQ on and off during playback to hear the before and after your adjustments too...
    This is great, oz.
But do you have a video showing how it is done ?

how to connect sound to my tv set using hdmi adapter. Im using 2009 macbook pro 13". I went to sound settings then output and it shows internal speaker built- in, it wont locate my tv set. pls. help, thanks

You probably can't because it looks like your MacBook Pro is too old to carry audio over HDMI. You will need to run a separate audio cable from the audio out port on the MacBook Pro to the audio in port on the TV.
Check your MacBook Pro model year against the list in this Apple tech note:

    Hi,
Open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Display Devices - make a note of the hardware listed here i.e. ATI, NVidia or Intel.
Next, connect your notebook via HDMI to your Tv.  Right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click once ( just to highlight the entry ) the HDMI Output that has the same name as your display adapter and then click the Set Default button - see if you now have audio.

Have you tried adjusting the "Audio Out" and the "Dolby Digital" settings in settings > audio and video? It may be worth trying several combinations of these settings, although typically it is the "Dolby Digital" setting that causes most problems for users.
Also make sure that you have correctly mapped the input port on your sound system to the output, if you are unsure about how to do this, refer to the manual that came with your sound system.
Have you tried playing various content sources (i.e. podcasts, music, iTunes Store video, other video etc), do you have the same problem with all types of content? If you use optical you might also check that you can see a red light at the end of your optical audio cable. Is your optical audio cable plugged straight into your sound system, or does it go through a switch or other device?

in this case i need to add a index on column1 right? Pls llet me know
Yes, an index in column1 (preferably clustered) would avoid the table scan for each update. The ELT the staging table alternative Jim suggested will likely perform better than individual updates for a large process like this.

You are trying to find a loophole to circumvent a basic rule that prohibits the transfer of purchased content from one Apple ID to another.
Content tied to an Apple ID are bound to that Apple ID forever. You can not merge or trade accounts. Well, not (officially) anyway...

You can report entries of a TEB to a LMS, at least I'm doing that to our LMS. You will need at least one scored object to enable reporting, and will have to report on the level Interactions and Score.
