How to remove partition on solaris

Ultra Sparc-2. 2 Disks. 9GB, 18GB.
To use the soft partition tool, I upgraded to Solaris9. the OS is on first disk c0t1d0. So I run the format utility to format the whole second disk c0t2d0, hoping it will remove all the existing partition. However they are still there:
Part Tag Flag Cylinders Size Blocks
0 root wm 0 0 (0/0/0) 0
1 swap wu 0 0 (0/0/0) 0
2 root wm 0 - 7505 16.86GB (7506/0/0) 35368272
3 usr wm 0 0 (0/0/0) 0
4 var wm 0 0 (0/0/0) 0
5 unassigned wm 0 0 (0/0/0) 0
6 unassigned wm 0 - 7505 16.86GB (7506/0/0) 35368272
7 home wm 0 0 (0/0/0) 0
Is there a way to remove them explicitly? the size 0's are the result of my attempt to eliminate the with the modify command. Or do their existence really matter?
Ignoring them, I tried to create the metadatabase on c0t2d0 with the command, but get the failure msg below.
metadb -a -f c0t2d0s7
metadb: SunLab: c0t2d0s7: device size 0 is too small for metadevice database replica
What steps should I follow?

It's kind of odd though. Normally when you set the size to 0, it cleans up the rest and changes the tag to 'unassigned'.
In fact I just tested that and that's exactly what happens. Perhaps you're behind on patches or something? I would expect slices 3, 4, and 7 to have 'unassigned'.

for metadevice database replicaUmm, your output shows 0 blocks assigned to slice 7. So yes, it's too small.
You should only give slice 6 (or whatever) all but a few cylinders. Then give slice 7 those cylinders. I'd allocate about 12MB to it.
That way you have a small slice for your metadevice replicas and a big slice for most of the data.

  • How to remove partitions from an external harddrive?

I have a 250 gb external harddrive (Lacie) on which i made a few partitions. i would like to remove them, but i can't figure out how. Any tips?
    Tinkertoo
    MacBook Mac OS X (10.4.9)

One way to so it would be to do a complete backup and then just reformat the drive and make all new partitions. There is a way to do it using the terminal that does not require a reformat but I don't know how to do that. You can purchase a third party program like iPartition that will do it on the fly.
In any case, do a backup first just in case something goes wrong.

  • How to remove recovery partition of HP Pavilion X2 10

HP Pavilion X2 10 comes with a 32GB drive, like many other Windows 8 tables, and only 14GB is available to users. The free space is decreases as I install and save data to the device, and quickly reached 3GB to a level that machine start reising waring.
After making recovery media, I tried to remove the recovery partition, but I could not find the way. In Windows' Disk Management, I does not show an option 'Delete Volume' for the recovery partition. The official procedures with HP Recovery Manager did not work since there is not 'Advanced options'
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c00810279
Does anyone know how to remove a recovery partition in Windows 8 tablet devices?

You can't remove the recovery partition because it is necessary for WIMBoot. Basically, the recovery partition has a copy of the Windows image that it uses to boot the system. This is done to save disk space on the primary partition, but doesn't seem to help much on the Pavilion X2. If you try and remove it with a third-party utility, Windows will be unable to boot because it can no longer find the necessary system files. Here's an article about WIMBoot and how it works: http://www.howtogeek.com/196416/wimboot-explained-how-windows-can-now-fit-on-a-tiny-16-gb-drive/
The only solution I've found is deleting all partitions and installing a fresh copy of Windows 8.1 from a flash drive. This will create a traditional Windows installation, without WIMBoot. Note that this will still create a recovery partition, but it will be very small (less than 500mb in my case). My Pavilion X2 had about 20 gb of free space after installation, on a 29 gb primary partition. This is without any updates installed.
The real mystery here is why the "HP Support Agent" didn't know any of this, and essentially advised us to destroy our Windows installations. HP needs to train their support agents better.

  • How do I remove partitions "PV2" and "Boot Camp"?

I tried installing Windows 7 in Boot Camp and lost power during install. I want to completely start over but have partitions "PV2" and "Boot Camp" that I can't seem to remove. I have tried to remove partitions in Disk Utility but everything is grayed out. Boot Camp Assistant says "The disk appears to have been partitioned by another utility and can't be removed."

When I boot to recovery (Command+R) it gives me four options: Restore with Time Machine Backup, Reinstall OS X, Get Help Online, and Disk Utility. I am assuming I should erase the drives usings Disk Utility. I am able to select the PV2 and Boot Camp but when I select the "partition" tab the +/- buttons on the bottom is grayed out. I am not sure how exactly to "erase the entire drive." If you couldn't tell, I am a novice imac owner. I did make a backup using Time Machine earlier today.

  • How to create a separate /var partition on solaris non-global zone

    Hi
I found no simple way to create a separate /var partition in solaris non-global zone.
I am using solaris 10 u9 and my root pool is zfs. My zone's zonepath is also separate zfs fs.
But, I do not know how to make the /var as a mountpoint of another zfs dataset since /var is not empty.
I also do not know if there is a way to install a zone with /var as a separate (outside '/') partition.
    That will be really useful.
    Any suggestion?
    Thanks
    Edited by: vadud3 on Sep 20, 2010 12:16 PM

I meant a separate zfs fs with mountpoint '/var' in a non-global zone.
I am insisting, because I do not want /var to fill up the '/' on non-global zone.
With default non-global zone installation, you cannot avoid that.
My zonepath itself is a zfs fs. I also have a zfs dataset provisioned to the non-global zone.
I cannot create a zfs fs out of that dataset and mount it as '/var' becasue by then non-global zone
    already installed content on '/var'
I want the '/var' as a separate dir or mountpoint, the same reason global zone gives you that option during install.
    Thanks

  • How to remove Solaris 9 to install Solaris 8 on Sparc?

Okay, I'm fairly new to this. I've got some software compiled to run on Solaris 8, not 9, so what would be the best way to remove the existing Solaris 9 installation to make way for 8?
The box is an Ultra10 elite 3d, 1 hard drive, 512MB RAM, 440Mhz.
    Thanks in advance.

Why do you think you have to remove Solaris 9 just because the software is compiled for Solaris 8 ?
Have you tried running the software on Solaris 9 ?

  • How to remove the "removable drive" feature on a Zen V P

I really love the Zen V Plus and most of the features. It is one of the best small mp3 players that I have had. One that that dri'ves me nuts though is you are forced to use it in MTP mode and you can only use it on a windows machine. It would be nice if you could use it in UMS mode so it would show up as a normal dri've. I also have a SanDisk e200 and it allows you to switch back and forth between MTP and UMS. It would be nice to see creative make a new firmware release where you could do this.
Anyway I made a 52 removable partition on the Zen V Plus to transfer some data around but I can not figure out how to delete it so I can use all the space for music again. Anyway to do this without wiping everything out and resetting it's

I'm pretty sure if you select the menu button it will bring up a menu with the different sizes of removable space you can have. The last option should be "Disable Removable Dri've" Select that.

  • How to remove duplicates

    Hi
i am removing duplicate records while importing bulk data into the table...I am checking for some columns...when they are same, i am removing the old records...i have used the following code to remove duplicates...
    execute immediate 'DELETE FROM test1 WHERE ROWID IN (SELECT ROWID FROM (SELECT ROWID,ROW_NUMBER() OVER (PARTITION BY c1,c2 ORDER BY 1) row_no FROM test1)WHERE row_no > 1)';
here i check c1 and c2 columns...if they are same the old records are to be deleted...but in this code, the new records are deleted..can anyone say how to remove old duplicate records?
    Vally

    Hi
i am removing duplicate records while importing
bulk data into the tableWhat you mean by using "while"?
During the process of importing(read inserting) - you want to delete duplicate records?
As you say in the following you have C1 and C2 - using both of them - you find duplicates.
I deem you have other columns besides C1 and C2. And these columns have different fileds in NEW record and OLD record - then why don't you use UPDATE statement?
    ...I am checking for some
columns...when they are same, i am removing the old
records...i have used the following code to remove
duplicates...you should clarify on what criteria you separate old records from new records and place this condition in your query.
    E.g. you have a field DATE_OF_ENTRY
and the latest one is the new record which shouldn't be deleted
then you would be able to put it into your delete statement:
    DELETE FROM test1
    WHERE ROWID IN (SELECT ROWID
                       FROM (SELECT ROWID,
                                    ROW_NUMBER() OVER(PARTITION BY c1, c2 ORDER BY DATE_OF_ENTRY desc) row_no
                               FROM test1)
                      WHERE row_no > 1)

  • Possible Virus On Bootcamp, how to remove?

Hi, I think I may have gotten a virus on my windows partition of my macbook pro. I windows XP professional with service pack 3 installed. Last weekend I was booted into windows when it suffered a "fatal error." The computer restarted and windows XP was fine. I did, however, get this email from my university network manager concerning my computer:
The computer in question appears to be infected with
a Trojan or worm that reports home to an IRC server.
Several examples include sdbot, spybot, gaobot, polybot,
and some variants of OptixPro. We notice these because
the computer is trying to connect to a known IRC bot
    controller.
We often are unable to tell exactly which version of
which IRC bot an infected computer has, but the
detection method is rarely wrong. There are hundreds if
not thousands of known variants of each of the above
viruses, with new ones being released daily. Updated
AntiVirus software may or may not detect this threat.
Odds are good that the attacker obtained the
password database for this computer, containing all
of the passwords for all accounts on the computer.
It is IMPERATIVE that all passwords for all accounts
on this computer be changed before this computer
is placed back onto the network.
Computers infected with an IRC bot should have their
hard disk formatted and have the Operating System
reinstalled and patched before coming back onto the
network. All passwords on the rebuild system should
be different than they were on the infected system.
IRC bots not only often come bundled with
other malicious software, but once they connect to
the IRC controller, they often download and install
even more malicious software, without the knowledge
and/or consent of the computer user. Therefore,
even if AntiVirus software detects and removes the
IRC bot, typically more malicious software is left
    behind, still running.
IRC bots are updated frequently. Even up-to-date
AntiVirus software often doesn't detect the latest
IRC bots. Once the AntiVirus companies start
detecting a particular IRC bot, the bot is typically
instructed to update itself to a variant that is
    not detected by AntiVirus.
Because of the above activities, scanning for viruses
with an AntiVirus product is typically not an effective
remedy for an IRC bot infection.
I have symantec antivirus for mac, is there any way I can use it to scan the bootcamp partition? I think I know where the infected file is, but symantec says it's clean. I also have Symantec for Windows.
It would be a HUGE inconvenience to reinstall windows XP because my disc is at home and I will not be home for another 2 and a half months. Can you give me any tips on how to remove this virus without reinstalling windows XP?
    Thanks,
    Sam

If you delete it you are only getting rid of half the problem, and likely will be unable to do this.
Start up in Safe mode.. (If you're having trouble doing this press start and search for MSCONFIG go to boot.ini and start in safe mode).
This will only run basic stuff for windows and should potentially stop the Winlog running.
However as I said winlog will probably re-appear because the trojan will likely just retrieve it back from the internet.
I say the best solution is...
Restart your mac into OS X, download Avast free edition and Spybot S&D or similar, and ZoneAlarm Firewall.
Put them on your bootcamp drive. restart into windows in safe mode. Install those and restart back into safe mode if needed.
Set avast to run a boot time scan (Scans before you load into Windows. Run SpyBot S&D. And set Zonealarm to have atleast some sort of protection running all the time.

  • How to remove the ^M character?

I'm porting applications from Windows to Solaris. My cpp programs failed to compile in some cases because of the ^M characters at the end of each line.
