  • How do I remove partitions "PV2" and "Boot Camp"?

    I tried installing Windows 7 in Boot Camp and lost power during install. I want to completely start over but have partitions "PV2" and "Boot Camp" that I can't seem to remove. I have tried to remove partitions in Disk Utility but everything is grayed out. Boot Camp Assistant says "The disk appears to have been partitioned by another utility and can't be removed."

    When I boot to recovery (Command+R) it gives me four options: Restore with Time Machine Backup, Reinstall OS X, Get Help Online, and Disk Utility. I am assuming I should erase the drives usings Disk Utility. I am able to select the PV2 and Boot Camp but when I select the "partition" tab the +/- buttons on the bottom is grayed out. I am not sure how exactly to "erase the entire drive." If you couldn't tell, I am a novice imac owner. I did make a backup using Time Machine earlier today.

  • [SOLVED] How to recover removed partition?

    Hello.
    I had 600 GB usb drive with a lot of information. It's structure was created via Palimpsest program in a such way:
    1)Format drive
      1a)Scheme: Don't partiton. Click: Format.
      1b)Are you shure? Click: Format.
    2)Format volume.
      2a)Type: Ext4.  Click: Format.
      2b)Are you shure? Click: Format.
    So, it hasn't partitions as /dev/sdc1, /dev/sdc2 etc, but entire device partition /dev/sdc.
    Accidentally, when I decided to format another 8 GB usb-stick in the same way, I applied steps 1-1a-1b on 600 GB usb drive. So the drive was cleaned. But the data is still on it, because this steps are concerning partition table (it takes some seconds), and not disk content.
    Are any ways to return everything in original state?
    I tried testdisk, bit it doesn't find any files.
    Thanks for possible help.

    Nevertheless I solved this problem. Yes, testdisk didn't find any files on the drive, but it correctly determine the type of the previously deleted partition (ext4) and wrote the recipe for forthcoming actions "fsck.ext4 -p -b superblock -B blocksize device". I substituted my options:
    fsck.ext4 -b 32768 -B 4096 /dev/sdd
    and restored etherything. I checked this method on another USB-stick by comparison of md5sums bethore deletion and after restoration: they were identical.
    During finding solution I also tested one program for windows which was also capable for undeliting in this situation, but it's free version undeleted only files less than 64kB. So the first described method works perfect.

  • How can I remove an "automatic" reply-to function on Apple Mail?

    Hi,
    I run three different e-mail accounts off of Apple Mail. Two are for business, and one is personal. I am not sure when/how this occurred, but for any e-mail I send the recipient gets a "reply-to" my personal account.
    I have tried various methods to remove this, even if I manually input a different reply-to address, or remove the window all together, all my recipients get a reply-to my personal e-mail address. I did not realize this was happening for a very long time, as only my recipients saw the reply-to address. I am assuming I inadvertently did something with a script, automater, etc.
    If anybody knows why this is happening, or how I can stop it - I would be very grateful.
    Thanks

    When in Mail you select New Message you get a drop down menu, just above the message pane, where you select what account the email is to be sent from.

  • How do you remove a ChangeListener

    I have a JTabbed Pane called tabPane set up as shown below:
    tabPane.addChangeListener(new ChangeListener(){
    //code here
    how do I remove the listener? The function below asks for a ChangeListener, but I don't have an explicit one since I declared a new ChangeListener() above.
    tabPane.removeChangeListener(ChangeListener i);
    In otherwords, what should I put in place of "ChangeListener i" ?

    Ok, you talked me into it. I tried code like this simple example, and it does work (no it's not the code you want, just the pattern to follow for creating an instance of an anonymous class that extends an abstract class):
    abstract class Test1
      abstract void foo();
    public class Test
      public static void main(String[] args)
        Test1 t = new Test1()
          void foo()
            System.out.println("foo");
        t.foo();
    }It works without errors. Similarly you need to do:
    ChangeListener myListener = new ChangeListener()
    // overridden ChangeListener method implementations here
    }; // note - you need the semicolon!
    tabPane.addChangeListener(myListener);
    tabPane.removeChangeListener(myListener);

    Drive Preparation
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.

  • How can I remove the BootCamp partition? as the size i created ws too small to install MS Office on 64Bit Windows 8.1 on MacBook Pro (Aug'13)

    How can I remove the BootCamp partition drive for Windows 8.1, as the size which I created was too small for me to install Microsoft Office onto Windows 8.1 64-BIt. The machine which I have is the MacBook Pro 13' inch purchased in August 2013.

    Either use Paragon's CampTuneX to resize it or use Boot Camp Assistant to remove the partition and restore the drive to one partition. Then create a new, larger Boot Camp partition. This will remove/delete/erase your Windows system.

  • How do I remove disk partition and merge the 2 partitions into main hard disk C drive. Win7

    How do I remove a disk  partition  and merge the 2 partitions into main hard disk C drive. If I delete Drive  D I am left with 250G of unallocated space in drive D Hard drive. And I want the unallocated portion 250G to be allocated
    to the C drive.jc

    I know it is a little bit late to reply. But, I still want to share my experiences with everyone here.
    Actually, I have ever also has the same issue and needed to resize my C drive partition for much more partition space. But, the resizing process just unexpectedly fails at last in Disk Management. The “extend” function is unable to work.
    So, I have no choice but to take chances with some third party partition resizing tools:
    GParted
    http://gparted.sourceforge.net/
    IM-Magic Partition Resizer Free
    http://www.resize-c.com/
    Both of them seem efficient. So, I just have tried them one by one and finally added wanted free space to my C drive successfully.
    I even have found a video tutorial that teaches me how to resize my drive with this freeware in details:

    You will have to clean the HDD.
    You can use diskpart to delete all existing partitions and partition table,  See info @
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb490893.aspx and
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc766465(v=WS.10).aspx
    Or you can use a 3rd party utility downloaded from the internet or the HDD manufacturer to clean the HDD.

  • How do I remove Yosemite installation partition

    I have a 2009 iMac with the primary OS disk being an SSD and the secondary disk as my Home drive.  I downloaded Yosemite via the App Store but never installed it.  Instead,  I created a bootable installation USB stick in order to perform a fresh installation on this iMac.  After successful "clean" installation to the primary SSD, I noticed there is an approximate 100GB partition on my secondary Home HD called, "Install OS X Yosemite".  How do I remove this partition without affecting all the contents on my HD?
    Thank you in advance.

    Please open Disk Utility, select the primary drive entry (out-dented) then click on the Partition tab in the main window. Take a screenshot and post here.
    To post screen shot do this:
    Press COMMAND-SHIFT-4 which will change the cursor to crosshairs.
    Hold down the mouse button and use the crosshairs to select the part of the screen you wish to capture.
    Release the button and the image will be saved to your Desktop.
    Click on the Camera icon in the toolbar of the forum message editor.
    Drag the image onto the Choose File button and click on the Insert button.

  • Remove partition created in reformat/reinstall for A50

    So when I got my Toshiba Satellite A50, it had no partition I knew of, just a C drive with XP installed on it. But the disc that it came with for reformatting the hard drive and reinstalling XP is creating a partition!
    So this is not the original installation or set up that I had.... I already have an external hard drive, I don't want a partition.
    How can I remove the partition? I'm willing to completely reformat the hard drive all over again, but if so, how do I do that?
    The Toshiba CD doesn't really give me a command prompt to go reformatting the hard drive myself....
    The other annoying thing is that my C drive was NTFS, but the disc is creating one drive NTFS and the other FAT32... also ... what's really scary, is when the Toshiba disc loads it says "loading Windows 98".... to my understanding my laptop NEVER had 98 on it... I'm praying this isn't a 98-xp upgrade. It seems someone gave me the wrong disc with my laptop?
    Or am I worrying over nothing?

    Hello Lou
    Believe me you worrying over nothing!!! Please dont be confused about loading W98 message. The unit starts in DOS mode and it is the same as on W98.
    Now step by step explanation: I have done recovery procedure many times and have a little bit experience with it.
    When starts, recovery CD shows menu with two options: STANDARD and EXPERT installations modes. STANDARD mode simply erases the whole HDD and creates one partition (the whole HDD capacity) for OS installation.
    EXPERT mode should be used if you want to install OS on already created partition or if you want to create new partition for OS installation. Please note you can create just first partition there ( C: ) and you can not modify already created partition.
    In my opinion it is always good to have two partitions, the first one for OS and installation and second one for data saving. You can not always have external HDD with you. If something goes wrong you can anytime install OS on first partition without loosing data saved on second one.
    Anyway, start recovery procedure and choose STANDARD recovery procedure (option 1). The whole HDD will be formatted and Os will be installed on one partition.
    Bye and if you have more questions please write again.

  • Remove Partition

    How do I remove a partition that I had put on my Hard Drive? I was using bootcamp, uninstalled windows, but cant get rid of the partition.

    -From Disk utility Help-
    To partition a startup disk:
    If you’re partitioning an external disk, make sure it’s connected to your computer, and then go to step 6.
    If you’re partitioning the disk you used to start up your Mac, print this page so you can refer to it later. To print this page, choose Print from the Action pop-up menu (looks like a gear).
    Insert the Mac OS X installation disc into your computer’s optical drive (or an optical drive connected to your computer), and then double-click the Install Mac OS X icon.
    NOTE:If you’re using another computer’s optical drive, make sure your computer is set up for remote installation, and then go to step 3. For more information about remote installation, see:
    Using Remote Install Mac OS X
    In the Installer, click Utilities, and then click Restart.
    When the Language Chooser appears, select your language, and then click the Continue button (looks like an arrow).
    In the Installer, choose Utilities > Disk Utility.
    Select the disk in the list that you want to partition, and click Partition.
    Choose the number of partitions from the Volume Scheme pop-up menu.
    Click each partition and type a name for it, choose a format, and type a size. You can also drag the divider between the partitions to change their sizes. If a partition’s name has an asterisk beside it, it’s shown larger than its actual size in order to display its name clearly.
    If you’ll be using a partition as a Mac OS X startup disk, click Options, and choose the appropriate partition scheme. To use a partition to start up an Intel-based Mac, choose the GUID partition scheme. To use a partition to start up a PowerPC-based Mac, choose the Apple partition scheme.
    Click Apply.

  • How to format boothcamp partition

    I have iMac (Snow leopard OS) and a friend set up a partition and installed Windows but after years I realized I don't need it.
    Is there anyway to format this partition so I can use it as another drive and can be browse from Mac OS?
    This is my first Mac, I don't know how to manage the partition and I don't want to format the whole computer.
    Thx

    Use Boot Camp Assistant. Select the menu option to remove Windows and return the drive to a single OSX partition. Do not use Disk Utility, it will mes up your drive and you will need to reinstall OSX. Make a backup of your data before you start.

  • How to create recovery partition in new(changed) HDD.

    my new HP pavilion g4 laptop HDD have crased, then I replce it by HP care. I upload original win 7 by recovery disk(DVD) but when I open my computer it shows only one partition (C drive, there is no recovery partition and HP tool.
    So how to creates recovery partition by recovery disk(DVD)...........please help me.

    Creating the recovery partition
    Right-click the start orb, and start 'Disk Management'.
    Shrink the C: drive by let's say 20-30GB.
    Then create a new Partition and assign the R: label to it and name it RECOVERY.
    Then open command prompt as administrator and type: 'recimg /createimage <directory>',
    In this case: 'recimg /createimage R:\' to save it on the new partition.
    This step may consume a lot of time.
    Now we need to register the newly created recovery image: 'recimg /setcurrent <directory>'
    'recimg /setcurrent R:\'
    Voila you are done.
    Restoring from recovery partition
    You may want to use this restoring method by default, because it is the easiest way to do so if your recovery partition is still intact. If not, look at the other recovery methods to see which suits you best. This is usually the way you reset or refresh your Windows installation if you purchase a computer from a brand like Lenovo instead of building one yourself
    Press the Windows-key + C to open the charms bar or swipe in from the right.
    Click Settings.
    Click Change PC Settings.
    Click Update & Recovery in the menu on the left.
    Click Recovery.
    If all your documents are safe and sound in your user folder, you can use Refresh your PC without affecting files. However I still recommend taking a back-up... If you want to do a complete reinstallation of Windows and also clean your user folder in the process then choose Remove everything and reinstall Windows.
