How to reset sharedobject when an app is completely restarted?

hi guys,
i use sharedobject to save the previous state of the application, i.e. the last viewing screen.
So for example, if the user clicked on an external link, he is being redirected to the safari browser, but when he click on my app on the "multi tasking panel" again, he is able to come back to the last viewed screen.
But the problem is, i do not want the sharedobject to be stored for so long.
Now, even if the user closed the application completely (i.e. by double clicking home button and terminate the application in the "multi tasking" panel), the sharedobject is still there.
I want to discard the sharedobject values when the user completely closed the application. So that they have a chance to start the program flow from the beginning again.
Anyone faced this problem before? Any trick to tackle this problem?
Thanks in advanced.

In the normal case, can you still use variables, or do you have to reinitialize all of those? If they are still around, then that might be a way to tell that the app was not force quit.
Failing that, you could store the time in the shareobject, and just decide that if it's been a while since you wrote the data, then send them back to the main menu.
In any case, making it easy to get to the main menu from anywhere would help solve the problem, because someone who did not force quit, who returns to your app, may well not want to be on that same page.

  • How can I check how many times or when an app has been re-downloaded on my iphone

How can I check how many times or when an app has been re-downloaded on my iphone. I know how to check purchases but I am looking for how to check when an app had been re-downloaded on my device whether it's through my device or Apple ID

You mention "lack of control" several times.  The control is there - you control the Apple ID and password that owns the app.  No other Apple ID can use the app.  You have not shared your Apple ID or password with anyone, so you and only you own the app.
Therefore, the number of times the app is downloaded or re-downloaded is completely irrelevant.  You might, for example, decide to purchase a new iPhone or iPad and download the app there.  Or the app developer may issue a new version which you download.  None of this matters regarding your "control" of the app.  All that matters is that you own it and nobody else can use it.

If you are developing in Java 5, then you must keep the API for Java 5 open. Is there any reason you haven't checked there? Also, new methods (almost always) end with the note (Since: 1.X). • How do I know when my backup is complete to my external hard drive

How do I know when my back up is complete to an external har drive...new user

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
If you are using Time Machine, open , System Preferences, System, Time Machine.
It will show the status of the backup drive, including the date of the first backup, as well as the most recent.
Checkmarking the 'Show Time Machine status in the menu bar' will allow you to view the latest Time Machine backup by clicking on the icon in the menu bar, without going through System Preferences each time.
Clicking Open Time Machine Preferences... from the menubar takes you to the same Preference screen as shown above.
The first backup will take a while, up to several hours or more, because it is a complete backup of everything on your system.

  • Comupter resets settings when i shut down and restart

My macbook laptop as of yesterday now does some kind of factory setting reset when i shut down and restart my laptop. What can I do to fix this. My picture, itunes files etc is gone. I have shut down and restarted a few times now and every time the dock and dashboard settings go away and i have to start itunes, pics etc as if I have never used those programs before. Someone please help. Thanks.

It's normal for the icons at the top level of the startup disk to revert to the same arrangement every time the Finder is relaunched. If it's important to you to arrange those icons in a persistent way, proceed as follows.
    Back up all data.
Open the Info window on the startup disk (labeled "Macintosh HD" unless you gave it another name.) Click the lock icon in the lower right corner of the dialog and authenticate.
In the Sharing & Permissions section, click the plus-sign button to add an entry to the access list. Give yourself "Read and Write" access. This will be a temporary change. Leave the dialog open.
Open the Finder window and arrange the icons as you wish, then close the window.
In the Info dialog, use the minus-sign button to delete the entry you just added to the access list. Don't change anything else. When you're done, it should be the same as when you started. Close the Info dialog.

  • HT201250 How can I tell when a backup is complete?

I don't keep my Time Machine external HD connected to my computer all the time.  I only connect it every other month.  When I do, I activate the Time Machine back up process.  I can see the many desk top images going back in space through infinity (very cool).  Just wondering, is there any thing that indicates when a backup cycle is complete?  Also, can I do research and send emails while the Time Machine backup is taking place?

all you need to do it right click on the time machine icon once your external hdd is connected and select backup now.  No need to actually go into time machine.  You will see when the backup is complete, just right click again on the time machine icon and it will tell you when ti was last backed up.  And yes, you can use your mac as normal when running a time machine backup.

If you have forgotten your Restrictions code, then follow the instructions
below but DO NOT restore any previous backup. If you do then you will
simply be restoring the old Restrictions code you have forgotten. This
same warning applies if you need to restore a clean system.
A Complete Guide to Restore or Recover Your iDevice (if You Forget Your Passcode)
If you need to restore your device or ff you cannot remember the passcode, then you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and re-sync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. Refer to Updating and restoring iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software.
Try restoring the iOS device if backing up and erasing all content and settings doesn't resolve the issue. Using iTunes to restore iOS devices is part of standard isolation troubleshooting. Restoring your device will delete all data and content, including songs, videos, contacts, photos, and calendar information, and will restore all settings to their factory condition.
Before restoring your iOS device, Apple recommends that you either sync with iTunes to transfer any purchases you have made, or back up new data (data acquired after your last sync). If you have movie rentals on the device, see iTunes Store movie rental usage rights in the United States before restoring.
Follow these steps to restore your device:
         1. Verify that you are using the latest version of iTunes before attempting to update.
         2. Connect your device to your computer.
         3. Select your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch when it appears in iTunes under Devices.
         4. Select the Summary tab.
         5. Select the Restore option.
         6. When prompted to back up your settings before restoring, select the Back Up
option (see in the image below). If you have just backed up the device, it is not
             necessary to create another.
         7. Select the Restore option when iTunes prompts you (as long as you've backed up,
you should not have to worry about restoring your iOS device).
         8. When the restore process has completed, the device restarts and displays the Apple
             logo while starting up:
After a restore, the iOS device displays the "Connect to iTunes" screen. For updating
to iOS 5 or later, follow the steps in the iOS Setup Assistant. For earlier versions of
iOS, keep your device connected until the "Connect to iTunes" screen goes away or
              you see "iPhone is activated."
         9. The final step is to restore your device from a previous backup.
If you can not restore your device then you will need to go to recovery mode.
Placing your device into recovery mode:
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
         1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the other end
of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
         2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the
red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake
and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake
              and Home buttons.
         3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device.
The device should turn on. Note: If you see the screen pictured below, let the device
charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then
             start with step 2 again.
         4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen.
When this screen appears you can release the Home button.
         5. If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
         6. Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
    Additional Information:
Note: When using recovery mode, you can only restore the device. All user content on the device will be erased, but if you had previously synced with iTunes on this computer, you can restore from a previous backup. See this article for more information.

  • How to reset drive (when belonging to unknow RAID-set)?

    Hi,
I switched 7 drives from XRaid to another and when trying to create a new array to the switched drives TWO of them shows as yellow and saying that they already belong to a RAID set. I deleted the old array before the switch.
So any advice how to remove them from a RAID set? I already tried the delete array. the old array was RAID-5 (7 drives) with no spares, so i wondered why two of the drives..

Yes, that's a new feature in the 1.5 firmware. If you pull a drive, the system makes you acknowledge you want to use it (and it's good) before it will let you use it again -- prevents people from re-using drives that the RAID is actively failing out (due to SMART errors), without noting they're explicitly intending to do that.
