How to resize the stage of .fla project

I would like to make a .fla project in high resolution (to
meet hires demand) but would also re-size the stage to lower
resolution to be able to publish at lower file size. Is there a way
to do it?
Changing the dimensions only changes the stage size but it
does not resize it.
Any help?

How to resize the stage from the top instead of the bottom?

Hi I am trying to resize the stage in Flash CS4 from the top instead of the bottom, as I left too much space at the top of the stage and don't need the stage to be so big. By default Flash resizes from the bottom.
So is there a way of resizing from the top?
Failing this, is there a way of moving all the symbols/objects in my project so that I don't create a motion tween but just move the objects for all of the frames in the project (i have quite a few tweens in the project)?

New tweens and resizing the stage: Help!

Hi all. I'm going nuts trying to figure this out.
I built an animation project at 630 pixels wide. Turns out the project needs to be 430 pixels wide. In CS3, using the classic tweens, I would simply resize the stage, Onion All, then resize everything on the stage at once. But with the new tween structure, it looks like I can't do a mass resize like that. Anything that's been tweened using the motion editor does not resize.
I know I can just create a new movie clip, paste all frames into it and then resize the MC, but I have some JPEGs of signatures that pixellate when they are resized that way.
So, can you onion skin the new tweens? Is there a workaround?

I'm afraid there isn't a good answer for this one - it's one of the present limitations that we're aware of. The problem is twofold: One instance per tween instead of two/more (Edit multiple frames is entirely based on multiple instances - a tween only has one), and auto-keyframing (usually making things easier, but for this, complicating things - if you change the scale at a location it automatically tweens the change, which you don't want in this use case).
For any motion paths, you need to select each and then scale them (you can use the Transform panel to enter a percentage. Mutliple selected motion paths will scale the instances instead (unfortunately for this case). You can try selecting multiple and using the Transform panel, but this doesn't work well yet.
If you haven't tweened the scale of your instances and they start at the same position, you're in a bit more luck. Put the playhead at the first frame of the span(s) and then scale the instances. If you have tweened the scale, then you'd need to move the scale tween up/down in the motion editor (press the Alt key while dragging the path in the graph).
In the even less likely chance the instances share the same tween, I'd do this for one instance, save it as a preset and then apply it to the rest.
I know this is a pain - I'm sorry it's not better for changing the size of the Stage. We didn't get the time to make Edit Mutliple Frames better for new motion in this release.

Resizing the stage around its center

I have done some animation work on a stage 320px X 320px. I
find that I must present the same work on a stage 240px X 320 px.
If I use the Property Inspector window, I can enter the new stage
size. Unfortunately, the window is resized with the left hand side
of the screen as its reference point, effectively cutting off a
large part of the right side of my work. I would expect to loose a
piece of my animation at the right and the left evenly. How can I
resize the stage around its center?

well, I'm afraid that just the thing, you really can't.
However, you can reposition everything on the Stage at the same
time. First, with all layers unlocked, right click the timeline
(anywhere but the first frame) and use 'select all frames', then
use the 'edit multiple frames' button which the little 'box' like
symbol next to the fps indicator on the bar just below the
timeline, select 'onion all', now you can drag or nudge the entire
animation at one time.

Application now has a aspectRatio property. You can use that to determine whether the application is in a landscape or portrait orientation.

Ok, (the stage).rect and (the stage).drawRect work fine but
if what you want to do is a monitor resolution change, i recomend
to use the Enhancer Xtra is excellent about change monitors
resolutions and others things.

FCP X - How to change the length of a project

Hi everyone,
Have been working on a music video in FCP X. I'm at the stage now where the cut is done, and I want to proceed to do a little color grading and then final export. I have a strange problem that I can't seem to get around, and the manual (if you could even call it that) is decidedly unhelpful on this front.
When I started working on the video, I placed the song in the primary storyline and had it copied three times along the way. This was so I could have extra "versions" of the song later in the timeline to test out ideas.
Now that I'm nearly done, I've deleted the extra copies of the song that were appended at the end, and they've been replaced with gap slugs. Nothing I seem to do can make them go away, I select them and hit delete, and they just stay there. So then when I export my video, because FCP X doesn't allow you to do anything other than export the _entire_ project, I end up with like 8 extra minutes of black at the end, which I then have to delete from my final QT movie. Obviously it's a surmountable problem, but it's just really annoying.
Anyone know how I can actually tell FCP X where the end of my project is?

Hey, thanks for both the responses.
I had tried using both delete keys (the one next to the "=" key and the one that actually says "delete" on the extended keyboard, but no dice. I also tried the suggestion of dragging a clip onto the gap and then deleting it, no luck either.
But then these suggestions made me think of trying another approach - I selected the gap clip in question and then went into the "edit" menu in the menu bar, and chose "delete" from there. That did the trick. And in doing so, I saw that the keystroke that's marked next to this command in the edit menu is "shift delete" (the delete is shown as the backward pointing box with an x in it). This also explains why I never seemed to be able to delete an effect that I added to a clip (I was always just deactivating them), because neither of the delete keys on their own were the right key command.
So I don't know if the key commands on my install of FCP X just happen to be set up in a different way to others, or I simply didn't realize that while simply hitting "delete" for clips was sufficient, you needed to use a different "delete" key cluster for other classes of items like gaps and effects.
Anyway, got it sorted now. Cheers for the input!

How to get the colums from a project view

I have a PjView-object from type Microsoft.Office.Interop.MSProject.View
and I can output the name of the view (MsgBox(PjView.Name.ToString)
So far so good.
But now I have two questions:
1. How do I access the columns that are included in this view?
2. If I have a column, how can I read the Title property (In Project: Field Settings -> Title)

First, you should carefully think why you'd need to resize. You can export from FCP X to the standard sizes, both HD and SD. Do you really need some nonstandard size?
Keep in mind that usually you'll get the best quality if you edit in the desired final size, rather than resizing afterwards.
If you do need to create a video in some nonstandard size, like, say 1080x1920 (i.e. in "portrait" form), there is a way to do it:

With Compressor you have many pre-made defaults for different kinds of devices. Also, you can export to Quicktime and tweak the settings to get a desired size.
1-Drag one of the existing settings (in the example below, I used SD 480p)
2-Select it
3-In the Inspector, select the "Geometry" tab
4-Choose "Custom" and enter the desired size.
5-Change the other properties (such as codec, under the "Encoder" tab), as needed
5-Choose "Save As..." and save it (give a suggestive name, say "Portrait") so that you can later reuse it as needed.
