How to save&export our settings/shortcuts/workspaces?

Hey, does anyone know hot can I EXPORT my workspace/shortcuts settings form InDesigne CS6 to a for example "a file".
And then import all my personal presets/settings into another computer?
How to do that. I know that we can SAVE our settings but how to export them?

Here is a link to Mike Witherell's excellent PDF guide to saving presets from InDesign:

  • How do I export/import keyboard shortcuts to a text file

How do I export/import keyboard shortcuts to a text file?
It would be nice to export them, edit and/or add to them in a text editor on my iMac, then import them back into iPhone and iPad.

You can backup the bookmarks to a file, then copy that file to the new computer and import them, for details see [[Backing up and restoring bookmarks]].
You can copy more than just the bookmarks. The user data, such as bookmarks and passwords, are stored in the profile folder. You can copy the data manually by copying the contents of the profile folder, for details see [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_backup Profile backup - MozillaZine Knowledge Base] or [[Backing up your information]].
There are some add-ons and utilities that can make this process easier. The first one is the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2109/ FEBE] add-on which can be used to copy a profile. Another option is the free [http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/ MozBackup] utility.

  • Don't understand how to save/export

    Hi-
I just got my first Mac & although I have used IMovie in the past to make a DVD from photos, I've never used it with video.
I wanted to film a short clip and be able to email it to someone. I figured out how to film it but when I go to "share" to try to export it to quicktime, it will not allow me to do that. It is almost like I need to save it somehow first (all I have is the basic clips from when I recorded, where if you drag the cursor over it, it skips through, etc) but I cannot figure out for the life of me how to do that. The last thing I did was click 'stop' when I was done filming and now I'm not sure about next steps. The tutorial is more about imported video clips from what I can tell & I've tried the the help menu & googling it also.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You need to create a project (File > New Project) name it etc. then drag your events or portions of events in.
A shortcut to dragging is highlight the portion of the event OR if you want the whole clip you can right click and go 'select entire clip' then just hit the E key on your keyboard. It will move the event into your project.
Now when you go to Share and you get to where you choose the size, there is a little "i" (i for information) at the right hand end of the line.
Select a size then click the 'i' and it will show you the file size of you movie.
That will give you a guide as to whether it is a suitable size for emailing.

  • How Can I Export Our WIki in a CSV Format?

Victims of our own success: what was originally created as internal content on our private OS X Server wiki now is being requested for presentation on an externally hosted web service. Management wants this content to be accessible to constituents on the outside in a searchable database on a completely different service not administered by us on the inside.
The developer building the database has asked for this content to be exported in CSV for easy import into the new database: page title, tags (a.k.a. keywords, not to be confused with HTML formatting tags), and page content.
Sadly, according to the Wiki Server Admin Guide (p. 73), the Wiki service does not appear to store page content in any kind of database, but rather in separate files. Thus I can't see a way to provide the requested data short of copying and pasting content from each individual wiki page on the OS X Server.
Considering that we're talking about ~200 pages of content, I'd like to avoid a manual process of that kind. I've been through the official Wiki Server Admin Guide, but it offered no help for exporting content in the way I need.
I'm fairly comfortable with AppleScript, less so with shell/bash scripting. Since I'm trying to save time, I'm not sure that's my answer on this scale. Debugging a script (for me) might take longer than a simple copy/paste of 200 items (maybe I'm wrong).
Does anyone have a different way of looking at this I haven't thought of? Am I missing something?
    Thanks in advance,
    Axiom

Unfortunately, exporting the wiki data into a format that databases can understand is not a trivial process. Pages are stored as a collection of folders that contain the wiki text, the HTML for display, the change history, the comments, and the attachments.
In a default setup, the page folders are under /Library/Collaboration/Groups/{groupname}/wiki . All folders under Groups can only be viewed by using root access permissions.
For example, for a wiki page accessed by:
    http://yourserver.com/groups/general/wiki/abc12/mywikipage.html
    Under /Library/Collaboration/Groups/general/wiki
abc12.page - folder for wiki page
!- attachments - folder for attachments
!- images - folder for images
    ! page.html - html (probably a cache) for display
! page.plist - property list file with all notes on the
! revisions.db - SQLite database file that contains all the revisions.
You would need a script that runs as the _teamserver user to read every .page directory, parse the .plist files, and generate a SQL statement to preserve all the text, markup, and quotations. If you program really well, you could search for the URLs in every .plist file and record the embedded attachments and images, and copy them to another location.
For my first project, I parsed the .plist files just to get a map of the random page URL and the title. I also found out about "deleted" and "tombstoned" states, and elected to ignore those.
If I get a moment I'll write about that next.

  • Need to know how to save printed image settings

    Photo printing setups; when printing a picture you have to make the following settings;
    (1) Select printer.
    (2) Printer Settings.
    (3) Select paper size.
    (4) Select Type of Prints.
    (5) Select print size.
After doing this printing a draft copy or coming back a few day later wanting another copy printed.
You go to edit load the file for picture to print, select create and you have to redefine the print all over again, this even after printing a draft copy and its OK and want to print 10 copies, you have to go back to Create and completely reset up to duplicate the draft picture you just printed.
When save an edited and formatted picture all that is saved is the edited and format digital image file.
I may want to print the image different sizes, on different types of paper, but Photo Shop doesn’t allow save the printed image files setup perimeter’s and tying the different print image setup to image file.
So I have to maintain a file folder Excel files that list all the setup parameter’s need to print that uses this the image file as is primary image.
Have I missed a Photo Shop function, that does this?

I thank everyone for the inputs, most if not all has been helpful.  If for no other reason than I am not used to this type photo printing. When most printing I did over my career has been mostly l technical drawings and there most if not all, were black and white and if you got the size printed right it was fine and nobody noticed.  But, now that I have retired I have more problems than before as I am now working more in not just color, but Photo graphs.  Then of course there is the ten years of technology I messed.  How I wish for the days when a program didn’t do what you wanted it too, you write your own code to add the function.  But, now security walls and the complexity of programs today you need a team of 10 programmers’ to do that.
But, this not being able to sale the values of that print size, let alone color/shading, type paper, manufacture of paper and last but not lest printer and even its model. All of those effect color/shading of a print.  Just to day I have learned that the Application Program, OS driver and the printer can have color correction processingbuilt-n.  It’s no wonder what is on the screen doesn’t match what is printed.  And most of these color “correction” routines can't be enabled and disabled.  It is no wonder printing for one computer running the same Application and printing to two printers on that computer the prints are totally different.  At least now I know about them and know that every time I print the same image file I am go to have start all over  and work up all new printing parameters.  Use to be editing and formatting the image was 80% of the work, now it 20% of the work and printing is 80% of the work.

  • Save Export Queue Settings

I have recently started doing some batch exports using the Export Queue in Final Cut, so I set up 4 bins for different file types and do an export and everything works great.. But is there a way to save those settings that I created... Everytime I exit I lose all of those settings and have to redo all of them the next time I want to export.
    Am I missing something..
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks

This is the FCP X forum.  And yes, you create a custom preset in Compressor, then use that.

  • How to save the visual settings   in css file ?

    hi all,
I have designed a chart using java and ilog API, and i am applying the visual setting from .css file. But i have some option in GUI to change the visual settings. For ex: background color, leged text syle etc. I should provide one button to save the existing visual settings of the graph in .css. ( It may replace or edit the existing .css file. Please help me out regarding this.
    thanks in advance
    Mohanraj.K

We can use the css file to apply the styles to chart... We have some readymade API it does that. It not only for HMTL. So when we run our application first time it will read the .css file and apply the properties. For example The background color in .css file is green. When we run the application first time it will apply green color to the chart background. Then i have some API it changes the chart background as user wants. for ex : red. When i close the application the i have to replace the .css background value as red from green. And we have to save the changed .css. My Q is very much unambiguous..
    please help me out

  • How to save changes to settings for photos in an iPhoto slideshow?

How can I save the settings to individual slides in an iPhoto slideshow?  I followed the instructions for changing the zoom and pan, but when I exit iPhoto an relaunch it the settings revert to some default.  Help!

Try this:  make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.

  • How to Save/Export Code Coloring?

I upgraded to CS5.5 and lost all code coloring, I wonder why there isn't any Save or Export function to support this?
Do you have any idea how difficult it is to re-do this ? what if something happens with the Dreamweaver and you can't backup this... do it all over again....

Which version did you upgrade from? and which operating system?
Code coloring is controlled by a file called Colors.xml which you can copy and paste into the CS5.5 config folder
The paths to the xml file are listed here (depending on your operating system and which version you have upgraded from)

  • How to save multiple desktops settings in Mountain Lion

Hi, if I would like to keep 5 desktops, and put mail on the first one, Safari on the second... How do I save this setting so next time when I start the computer, it will be there?

If the applications were spread across several desktops at the time you shut down, they should resume in the same desktops. Of course, if you can resume switched off, as some do, that can't happen.

  • How to save (backup) current settings?

Is there a way to save all my current (default) settings?
E.g. for later restore (afer crash) or for other Adobe Ill installations on other computers.
This backup should include e.g. default character set,
default document size (width, height), preferences from Edit->Preferences menu,...
    Thomas

OK. I'm still at v12, so someone with v13 will have to confirm this.
However, I believe all you need to do is copy the entire folder {c:\Documents and Settings/[your login username]/Application Data/Adobe/Adobe Illustrator CS3 Settings} to a retrievable location. This will also preserve any New Document Profiles you might have created.
(The above assumes C: is your bootup drive.)

The settings for your Time Capsule are saved automatically when you click Update in the application.
So see your current settings, open Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
    Click Manual Setup
