How to select page size and fit to page size?

i am reading documentation here and feeling like a total dolt.
can someone please remind me how i get my spreadsheet to print to my second printer and to get it to print in tray 1 with the 11 x 17 paper and how i get the spreadsheet to scale to fit this page size?
i can't figure out if i am supposed to select the paper size first in the PRINT dialog but if i do this i can't figure out how to scale it and if i scale it i can't figure out how to get it off of 8 x 11 paper.
oh the conundrums in mac print dialogs ; )

hi wayne.
i think you have a level of expertise with this software that let's you answer a question in a way that i don't understand. either that or perhaps as a new user my questions are not clear to you.
can you tell me if it is possible to create a SETTING that will let me open a document that is SENT TO ME so that i don't have to run through all these steps just to do what i am asking to do in the title of this post? i mean, i am going to print this explanation out so i can refer to it in the future but i don't want to have to go through all these steps every time someone sends me a document.
i also don't want to have to ask them to format the document as a pdf at 11 x 17 and 12 x 18 every time they send me something.
does that question make sense?
AFAIK your answer is indicating that i can set up a TEMPLATE that will let me /create/ new documents by using this template and what i am asking is if there is a way to print a document to 11 x 17 or to 12 x 18 with PRESETS as i do in Preview....
can you help?
THANKS!

  • How do I zoom in and out in Pages for the iPad?

I'm using Pages on my iPad (1), but don't seem to be able to zoom in. The "pinch open to zoom in" doesn't seem to work, it just springs back when I take my fingers off the screen. Am I missing something? I have no problem zooming in using pinch open in e.g. Safari or Keynote.

I can get two options — Actual size and fit on screen. According to the help section if you use 2 fingers and 'quickly' pinch out you can get a view at 200 per cent. It has never worked for me.

hello ! how to change document sizes and use our own size (not A3, A2 ...) thank you !

    Experiment. No harm in trying.
If you are just starting to use Pages you need to make your own assessment given current events whether committing your work to a format and software given this support is a wise move.
You also need to look at what will produce workable results. Particularly if your large posters are to be commercially printed and contain large bitmap (photographic) images.
Always work backwards from your output. Ask your printer what they require to do their job.

If your table has a Header and your Legend text is in the header, it will be picked up by the table.

  • How to do The quotes and subscripts in pages??

    Hi guys,
I don't know how to do the quotes and subscripts in pages for iOS...
    Someone can tell me this??
Sorry for my English, I'm not American...

You can create left and right single quotes with option + }, and shift + option + }, respectively.
Double quotes work the same way using the { character substituted above.
    Menu > Format > Font > Baseline:
Superscript is control + command and +
Subscript is control + command and -

I am making a multiple page document and need some pages to be landscape and others to be portrait.  How can I do this?

In pages you can only have one orientation of the Page. You have to rotate the content on the pages that you want horizontal. Save the document in Pages format so you'll have a original version to work on. Then Export to or Print to PDF and open the document in Preview. Here you can rotate the pages to horizontal viewing.

  • Cannot adjust page width to fit to screen size on some PCs with IE

Hello friends, I am using APEX 4.0 and IE9 on different Windows 7 PCs . The page will go way off the screen to the right on one PC, and fits nicely inside the screen on another PC. This problem does not occur in Firefox on any PC. I have used Firebug to try to isolate the template or css settings. Using Theme_4, I have a breadcrumb region and 4 reports regions. One of the reports regions is in column 1 and 3 regions are in column 2. Display point is Page Template Body (3. Items above region content) for all the reports regions. The CSS is #themes/theme_4/css/theme_4_0.css. The template is One Level Tabs (Right Sidebar/Table Based). I tried various width="" using px and % under Edit Page Template-Definition-Body (see below). I tried style="width:800px" within the <div> tags. I have tried various other changes to theme_4_0.css and apex_4_0.css with no visible change to the page width on the obstinate PCs. I reset IE setting and deleted all personal settings on both PCs with no changes to either one, one fits on the screen and the other does not. The issue is that most of our users use IE so most of them will have to live with using the horizontal scroll bar to see the regions in column 2, unless we switch them all to Firefox (not a bad option, except that option works for our users only, we have no control over external browsers). I have tried suggestions from many discussion threads, as this problem has bothered us for quite some time. I know this is an IE problem, but any help is appreciated. Thank you.
"|" represents screen size and "-" is the regions/content for the "bad" PCs.
    |----------|----------
The "good" PCs look like this:

    <td class="tbl-sidebar">#REGION_POSITION_03#</td>

I think your concerns are very reasonable. But I want to sort of refocus things a little bit for you here... it's not really a PC vs Mac issue... Rather, it's specifically an Internet Explorer issue. And you might say that this is synonymous...still 98% of the world uses IE, and you would be correct. Hopefully when the final version of IE7 comes out, it will finally embrace some of the modern day OPEN web standards without trying to make too many standards of its own (this is Microsoft, though).
Anyways, in the meantime, I guess we all try to make the best of it. It's very easy to conclude that iWeb is not a viable tool for you, as long as you have something else to "fall back" on. With my limited knowledge of all things HTML, I have no such luxury. Instead, I have put up a notice on my site for IE users only that the site might not look its best on IE....this notice also encourages IE users to use FireFox, which is very much like Safari and will in 99% of cases display your iWeb pages just like you expect. You can see how I've done this here (but you have to surf from IE)... http://blog.dirtdoog.com
I think many people in the PC world understand the limitations of IE. Certainly many don't, but you have to consider your likely audience, I guess. I believe that your website content is king. If your content is compelling enough to your intended audience, they will jump through hoops to see it in its full glory....but you have to make them aware of the problem. That's why I have chosen to take the path that I have taken.
Let me know what you think.

  • Hyperion Financial Reports Image and Fit to Page

We import Saved Objects into a grid for a standard header and footer on our reports. Both the header and footer run across the entire landscape page. This works perfecting when the report is small in width. However, when we use the "fit to page" functionality to fit the report on one page, it also reduces the size of the object so that it doesn't span the page. It literally takes hours to get everything lined up perfectly so that it spans the page and still looks "okay". Has anyone else experienced this and has a good solution/work around. I litterlly want to PULL MY HAIR OUT whenever a formatting change comes in for one of these reports as I know it will take FOREVER.

    Hi
Do you import them into a grid or do you import them in to the header and footer section?
Also have you tried importing them as a saved 'Image' object?
I think I've experienced similar at a client where we had highly formatted reports with a text box as the header and an image as the footer. Fortunately for us we had limited rows/columns on each report and it was accepted that some reports would span multiple pages so that the shrink to fit never actually affected the size too much.
Apart from trying the other object types if you haven't already, I'm afraid there is little you can do to ease your pain within FR. Could you do anything with the image, create ones of various sizes and test how they 'shrink', see whether you can sort it from that angle?
    Hope this helps

  • Page breaks and 'Fit Page in Window' option

This may seem a stupid question but indulge me: when I add a page break InDesign is only showing me the very top of the text frame on the page the cursor has moved to. How do I get InDesign to honour the 'Fit Page to Window' option when I add page breaks? Do I really have to keep hitting command-0?

It does like to go exactly to the first line of the next page. It's not very intuitive.
However, you can hold down Alt and scroll the page up.
Or while holding alt - click and hold anywhere on the page. It will zoom out. Move the red box where you want to Zoom to, then release the mouse.
Or you could press Return a few times then delete the returns.

  • How to use  font Symbol and Zapfdingbats. in Pages for iPad

Pages for ipad has font options of Symbol and Zapf Dingbats.  I would like to use one of these fonts to place arrows in lines of text. Does anyone know how to do this? I am using IOS6 and ipad 3

Does Pages on the iPad have an Inspector panel? In the Mac version, it's a round blue button in the icon bar at the top of the window.
If you've got that in the iPad's Pages app, then you can use it to manually raise or lower the baseline of one or more characters, then use the font size to make them smaller. Superscripting after a numeral can be automatic (in the Mac version) by setting that in the Prefs.
You can probably tell I don't have my iPad yet.

  • How to Insert a Page Break and Duplicate a Page in Pages 5.1

Pages 5 deprecated the "Word Processing" and "Page Layout" styles of document creation, but in 5.1, they have returned.
It seems that the DEFAULT is to "Word Processing," however it is possible to convert the document to a "Page Layout" document: In your open document, click File, then Convert To Page Layout.
So, for a Word Processing document, one only needs to click Insert and then Page Break, while in a Page Layout document, click Insert and then Page.
Unfortunately, the Duplicate Page function has NOT returned, but you can still select the entire contents of a page and copy it to a new page. Unfortunately, your perfect page layout won't copy over exactly, and guides don't copy over either.

Actually, I had an entire page worth of content that didn't change at all, but now that I think about it, that was probably because I had all of my content in boxes.
And I was careful to specify Pages 5.1 in my post heading to avoid confusion. It is VERY WELL documented that Apple removed loads of features in their new iWork apps - including all over this support forum.
Your obvious disdain for Pages 5 notwithstanding, the return of the Page Layout mode is a BIG DEAL to me, as Pages was otherwise just a word processor without it. Prevously, upgrading my Pages 4 documents to Pages 5 would render them un-editable.
So, instead of the seemingly default answer of "delete Pages 5 and use iWork '09" that I saw on just about every post regarding this particular issue, I'm offering a tidbit of information for those who actually want to try and use the current version the way it is.

  • Indesign Bug with Auto-Size and fitting in Anchored frames

    Hi,
    Steps to reproduce:
    1. Create a text frame with 2 Anchored text frames with the same width.
    2. Make the anchored frames Auto-Size --> Vertical only
    3. insert text to the first frame, when type enter to the next line the frame become higher but the next frame remain in the same position. just after typing the first character in the second line the next frame adjust in the right position.
    4. The same happen when pasting text that make the frame bigger.
    5. The same happen without Auto-Size when fit frame to content.
    Does anyone knows about it?
    Any idea how to bypass?
    Thanks

  • How do I copy text and objects from pages to and paste into Email, objects don't show in Email

Anyone know how I copy text and objects from pages and paste into Email, objects don't show in Email, thanks

You can't expect Mail to support all the objects of Pages which can include anything up to charts generated from spreadsheet tables.
Even if Mail was a superset of Pages, what would the recipients who don't have either Mail or Pages, make of it?
