How to "select" with case ignored???

Hi everyone, I need to select a field from table, but the data might be written in low case or upper case, even mixed case. for example, i want to select "test" or "TEST" or "Test" in column, what should I modify in my sql "select column1 from tableA where column1 = 'test'" ???

How about ignoring punctuation marks etc. E.g. search for ABC yields A.B.C. , A-B-C, A B C, and other combinations if present. Does a tool which does something similar exist?

Thank you for your answer! My question was regarding the organisational side, I didn't get this clear.
I know how to generate a test package and how to assign a tester to a test package but where do I get the information which test packages I need and which tester to assign to which package.
Maybe a good option is to assign the tester as a team member on the process step level. Thus the assignments can be listed with SOLAR_EVAL using "Assignments / Test Cases" with option "Display Team Members". This list would help to generate the test packages. The selection of the test cases for the test package has do be done manually because there seems to be no filter for team members.

I have an application that at the begining a user will login with a user name and password which is stored in the database. The SQL statement is as follows:
"SELECT id_employee FROM employee WHERE employee_number='" + txtUserName.Text + "' AND passWord='" + txtPassword.Text + "'";
For testing purposes I have set the password to the word test. The problem is, if the user enters in TEST or TeSt or TESt it will grant them access. How do I set it to force the correct case?
I am using SQL 2005 for the database.

You can also set Collation while comparing strings:

All comments about not doing this type of quering using command string, instead of command with parameters, they are apsolutely right.
Nevertheless i will have only username as a parameter in the command and password will be return value from procedure. I will check for equality of entered password and returned one from command in C# code, and C# is case sensitive. There is a good security model implemented for password in AdventureWorks sample database for SQL Server 2005, in table Person.Contact.
That model use two fields for password, PasswordHash and PasswordSalt. PasswordSalt is randomly generated hash when password is modified and with that salt, password string is encrypted, which produce PasswordHash. So when you want to authenticate a user, execute a command that will return a row(PasswordHash and PasswordSalt) for entered username, and in application you will encrypt entered username with PasswordSalt. If generated string is equal with the one returned PasswordHash, then you have a valid login. If nothing is returned from command or they are not equal, you have invalid login.

i found no records in itab.
i also tried with

but i found no records in itab.

i found the record in itab.
as per my analysis if database is updated with capital letters,then only select is working
but how to make the fist two select querys to be worked out.without modifying database entries

How to select, with a SUD DIALOG, the range and the trace data to import from citadel

I use DIAdem to generate reports from Citadel and I would like to create a script which asks the user to select data and it's corresponding range to import it from citadel. The script should display a dialog box (sud dialog), the user will choose the data and the range.
I would like to know if a function exists because up to now, I have not found anything suitable for this.

But I don't know how to automatize it with sud dialog

How to select with multicast

How does select stmt with for all entries uses Indexes

I goes through a number of documents but still confused how does select for all entries uses indexes if fields are not in sequences. i got pretty much the same results if i take like two cases on Hr tables HRP1000 and HRP1001(with for all entries based upon hrp1000). Here is the sequence of index fields on hrp1001 (MANDT, OTYPE, OBJID, PLVAR, RSIGN, RELAT, ISTAT, PRIOX, BEGDA, ENDDA, VARYF, SEQNR). in second case objid field is in sequence as in defined Index but i dont see significant increase in field even though the number of records are around 30000. My question is does it make a differrence to use field sequence (same as in table indexes) in comparison to redundant field sequence (not same as defined in table indexes), secondly how we can ge tto know if table index is used in Select for entries query i tried Explain in ST05 but its not clear if it uses any index at all in hrp1001 read.

The blocking affects the size of the statement and the memory structures for returning the result.
So if your itab has 500 rows and your blocking is 5, the very same statement will be executed 100 times.
Nothing good or bad about this so far.
Assume, your average result for an inlist 5 statement is 25 records with an average size of 109 bytes.
You average result size will be 2725 byte plus overhead which will nearly perfectly fit into two 1500 byte ethernet frames.
Nothing to do in this case.

Now this is an extreme example. The longer the average row length is, the lower will be the average loss in the network.

Depending on table-statistics, oracle might decide for short inlists to use a concatanation instead of an inlist.
This is supposed to be more costy, but I never had a case where I could proove a big difference.
Values from 5 to 15 for blocking seem to be ok for me. If you have special statements in customer coding,
it #might# be benefitial to do the mentioned calculations and do some network tracing to see if you can squeeze your
network efficiency by tuning the blocking.
If you have jumbo frames enabled, it might be worth to be analyzed as well.
If you are only on a DB-CI system that is loopback connected to the DB, I doubt there might be a big outcome.

Ok so ive changed things up a bit and have had some more success.
I have used a Switch statement in my For loop to perform different actions based on the item selected.
The code looks like this:

This code solves my problem but has thrown up a new issue:
When i select Option 1 or 2 from the dropdown list the change in the text field is instantaneous, however if I select Option 3 it wont appear in the text field until I either select Option 3 a second time or select another item. Its as if the text field is a selction behind what I have enterd in the dropdown list.
Any thoughts?

Hi,
The data dictionary view USER_TAB_COLUMNS has one row for every column in every table in your schema. The columns TABLE_NAME, COLUMN_NAME and DATA_TYPE have all the information you need.
Another data dictionary view, USER_TABLES, may be useful, too. It has one row pre table.

The logic of this select is completely weird. Whcih order of the db-tables should be used, which indexes?
On RESB matnr, werks and xloek are in one index, but rsnum not.
Are the conditions in fs_plan_order and it_tal connected or independent?
It is probably much faster, to leave the fs_plan_order condition away and check it on the result.

Case insensitive selects with 'like'

I use a 10g database (10.2.0.2 same behaviour with 10.2.0.1). What we want is case insensitive selects with 'like' operator in the where clause. NLS_COMP is set to 'LINGUISTIC' and NLS_SORT is set to 'BINARY_CI.
In a table we have two columns one of type 'varchar2' one of type 'nvarchar2'. The databases national character set is set to UTF8. Case insensitive sorting works with both columns. Select statements with '.... where varchar2col like '%r%' returns also values with upper case 'R' values (that is what I expect).
The select statements with '.... where nvarchar2col like '%r%' however does not return the row with upper case 'R' values.
I used SQL*Plus: Release 10.2.0.3.0 and other clients and the behaviour is the same so
I think it is not client related.
Is that a known issue or is there any other parameter to set for UTF8 nvarchar columns?

OK. Found out what the problem is. It is obviously the client.
While using the instant client and setting the parameters (NLS_SORT=BINARY_CI and NLS_COMP=LINGUISTIC) as environment variables does not work correctly, at least not for nvarchar2 fields. The nls_session_parameters show the correct values, but selects with 'like' operators in the where clause do not return case insensitive. Issuing the 'alter session' commands and again setting the nls parameters solves the problem.
Using the full client installation also works, in case the parameters are set in the registry on windows systems. With the full client it it not necessary to issue the 'alter session' commands again.
So obviously the problem is instant client and nvarchar2 field related. That's too bad....

How to select paths with the same stroke width

I would like to know how to select all the paths inside a document whose stroke width are equal to 0.361 points
I will appreciate any help.
