If you want to really learn, go to the javaTutorial.
http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/TOC.html
If you don't want to learn but finish quick, here is :
For login, you need JDialog, JLabel, JTextField, JButton,
given location? --> You must know layout. --> if you want to learn go to the link above; learn The best is GridBagLayout.
if you don't want to learn but finish quick, here is :
// x, y, width, height  ==> you must put int value
class MyDialog extends JDialog {
  this.setLayout(null);
  JLabel myLabel = new JLabel("Login");
  myLabel.setBounds(x, y, width, height);
  myLabel.setBorder(new EtchedBorder()); ---> to see the actual bound of the component.
  JLabel myLabel2 = new JLabel("Password");
  myLabel2 .setBounds(x, y, width, height);
  myLabel2 .setBorder(new EtchedBorder()); ---> to see the actual bound of the component.
  JTextField myLoginTextField1 = new JTextField();
  myLoginTextField1.setBounds(x, y, width, height);
  JTextField myPasswordTextField2 = new JTextField();
  myPasswordTextField2 .setBounds(x, y, width, height);
  JButton myOKButton = new JButton("OK");
  myOKButton.setBounds(x, y, width, height);
  JButton myCancelButton = new JButton("Cancel");
  myCancelButton.setBounds(x, y, width, height);
{code}____________________________________________________
This will do.  Etched border will help you to have proper size. of width and height.
Play around, you will find fun -

  • How to print JTextPane containing JTextFields, JLabels and JButtons?

    Hi!
    I want to print a JTextPane that contains components like JTextFields, JLabels and JButtons but I do not know how to do this. I use the print-method that is available for JTextComponent since Java 1.6. My problem is that the text of JTextPane is printed but not the components.
    I wrote this small programm to demonstrate my problem:
    import javax.swing.*;
    import javax.swing.text.*;
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.print.PrinterException;
    public class TextPaneTest2 extends JFrame {
         private void insertStringInTextPane(String text,
                   StyledDocument doc) {
              try {
                   doc.insertString(doc.getLength(), text, new SimpleAttributeSet());
              catch (BadLocationException x) {
                   x.printStackTrace();
         private void insertTextFieldInTextPane(String text,
                   JTextPane tp) {
              JTextField tf = new JTextField(text);
              tp.setCaretPosition(tp.getDocument().getLength());
              tp.insertComponent(tf);
         private void insertButtonInTextPane(String text,
                   JTextPane tp) {
              JButton button = new JButton(text) {
                   public Dimension getMaximumSize() {
                        return this.getPreferredSize();
              tp.setCaretPosition(tp.getDocument().getLength());
              tp.insertComponent(button);
         private void insertLabelInTextPane(String text,
                   JTextPane tp) {
              JLabel label = new JLabel(text) {
                   public Dimension getMaximumSize() {
                        return this.getPreferredSize();
              tp.setCaretPosition(tp.getDocument().getLength());
              tp.insertComponent(label);
         public TextPaneTest2() {
              StyledDocument doc = new DefaultStyledDocument();
              StyledDocument printDoc = new DefaultStyledDocument();
              JTextPane tp = new JTextPane(doc);
              JTextPane printTp = new JTextPane(printDoc);
              this.insertStringInTextPane("Text ", doc);
              this.insertStringInTextPane("Text ", printDoc);

              this.insertButtonInTextPane("Button", tp);
              this.insertButtonInTextPane("Button", printTp);
              this.insertStringInTextPane(" Text ", doc);
              this.insertStringInTextPane(" Text ", printDoc);
              this.insertLabelInTextPane("Label", tp);
              this.insertLabelInTextPane("Label", printTp);
              this.insertStringInTextPane(" Text Text", doc);
              this.insertStringInTextPane(" Text Text", printDoc);
              tp.setEditable(false);

              this.getContentPane().add(tp);

              try {
                   printTp.print();
              } catch (PrinterException e) {
                   e.printStackTrace();
         public static void main(String[] args) {
              new TextPaneTest2();
    }First the components are shown correctly in JTextPane, but when printing is started they vanish. So I created another textPane just for printing. But this does not work either. The components are not printed. Does anybody know how to solve this?
    Thanks!

    I do not know how I should try printComponent. From the API-Doc of JComponent of printComponent: This is invoked during a printing operation. This is implemented to invoke paintComponent on the component. Override this if you wish to add special painting behavior when printing. The method print() in JTextComponent is completely different, it starts the print-job. I do not understand how to try printComponent. It won't start a print-job.

  • How to set specific height in JLabel but vary in width ...

    Hi,
    I want to set the height of JLabel to fix height but vary the width according to the content of the label...
    How does I do that ??
    JLabel lbl = new JLabel("Hello this is aman");
    lbl.setPreferredSize(100,30);
    If the the text is changed, the width will be truncated at 100 pixels... how do I change
    that to height 30, but width change according to text ?
    thank

    Hi..
    may be this works for you ---
    since u want to adjust the width with the text size.. means that you will be taking an input from the user and then set it on the label.. so before setting the text on the label & width of label .. get the length of the text and set this length as the width parameter to method setPrefferedSize()..
    ex:
    // get the text from textbox
    String userinp = textbox.getext();
    JLabel lbl = new JLabel();
    lbl.setPreferredSize(userinp.length,30);
    lbl.setText(userinp);

    I do not have much experience with Java, my background is database admin, could you please spell out syntax and where introduce hourglass behavior based on the code I posted.While bobear may post his code, my recommendation in this situation is that you are always better to use the advice given, the API and the tutorials to first try to do this yourself and see what happens. Then if it fails, come back with your code attempt.
    One concern of mine, and my main reason for posting is that it seems like your JButton will initialize a task that may take a bit of time to perform (hence the need for the hour-glass). I just want to make sure that you call this task in a background thread such as within a SwingWorker's doInBackground() method. For more on this, please google the Sun tutorial on Concurrency in Swing.
    Much luck!

  • How do I set a JButtons location?

    How do I set a JButtons location withouth using things like .center, but with coordinates?

    There is a thing called "LayoutManger", they may help you in achieving your goal in the best possible way. You can have look at them at
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/layout/using.html
    or
    http://java.sun.com/products/jfc/tsc/articles/tablelayout/ (good one)
    Alternatively you can bypass all this good stuff and
    setLayout(null);
    jbutton.setBounds(x,y,width,height);

  • Howto set default font for JLabel & JTextField in JClient?

    Hi,
    JDev 10.1.2
    Can you please tell me how to set the default font for labels & textfields in JClient?
    For some reason the proposed font is now "Microsoft sans serif", before it was "Tahoma".
    I search the preferences all over and didn't found any clue.
    I know you can change the font of the source editor.
    I suppose the default font is taken from the OS environment, but where?
    I intend to deploy to linux so a Microsoft font doesn't suit me.
    I changed the style to bold for some labels and in this case the font parameter is part of the code.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Frederic

    Hello
    The defaults reached thru the Terminal are not storing infos about the font used as default one in a template.
    I apologize but when I select all in a Numbers document and save it as a template, it doesn't match your requirements.
    Each time I insert a new table it defaults to HelveticaNeue.
    This is why I gave the tip which changes the font name in the Index.xml file.
    From my iDisk:
    <http://idisk.mac.com/koenigyvan-Public?view=web>
    you may download:
    :For_iWork:changeFont.zip
    which gives you the ability to do the job very easily.
    you may also download
    For_iWork:removePrintRecord.zip
    which removes the print Record embedded in our documents if this one is annoying.

  • How to set the background for all components?

    hi
    Does anybody know how to set the DEFAULT background color in an application.. I need it because in jdk 1.3 the default bgcolor is grey and in 1.5 it is white.. and I wish white as well.. so to make it also white in jdk 1.3 I need to use the (a bit annoying) anyContainer.setBackground( Color.white ); and these are lots in my app.. So my question is: is there such an overall class with a function (say UIManager.setComponentsBackground( Color color ) ) for such a purpose?
    any tip or link would be greatly appreciated
