How to set JFrame's LayeredPane?

Hello,eveyone!
I wat to set JFrame's LayeredPane by JFrame's setLayeredPane() method.
My code as follow:
import javax.swing.*;
import java.awt.*;
public class LayeredTest{
    public static void main(String[] args){
        SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable(){
            public void run(){
                new MyFrame().setVisible(true);
class MyFrame extends JFrame{
    public MyFrame(){
        super("LayeredTest");
        setLayeredPane(new JLayeredPane());           //this line, I want to set the LayeredPane myself;
                                                      //but it doesn't work.
        JPanel panel =new JPanel();
        panel.setPreferredSize(new Dimension(320,240));
        panel.add(new JLabel("Label"));
        panel.add(new JButton("Button"));
        add(panel);
        setDefaultCloseOperation(EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
        pack();
}But the application runs abnormality.
Any one tells me why and how to modify?
thanks!

The content pane of the JFrame should be added to the layered pane.
When you set a new layered pane, it doesn't automatically do that.
Add this after you add the new layered pane:
layeredPane.add(contentPane, JLayeredPane.FRAME_CONTENT_LAYER);

    90% of the code you posted is not relevant to your question.
    If you want further help post a Short, Self Contained, Compilable and Executable, Example Program (SSCCE) that demonstrates the problem.
    And don't forget to use code tags when posting code.

  • How to set a minimum size of a JFrame

    hi freinds,
    i have written a swing application which starts like this ,
    public class workerclass extends JFrame implements ActionListener {
    blah blah blah ..
    now can you please tell me how to set a minimum size for this application once it starts so that user cant minimize it more than that minimum size.....
    when i tried
    setDefaultLookAndFeelDecorated(true);
    it did my job by setting it to a particular size which wasnt minimizable, but this default look and feel looked ugly.
    so i used system look and feel
    UIManager.setLookAndFeel(UIManager.getSystemLookAndFeelClassName());
    but with this how do i set the minimum size..
    please do help
    and one thing more , like
    in my main Method when i say
    new workerclass().setSize(500,500); or say(100,100) or say(300,300)
    new workerclass().setVisible(true);
    the size (***,***) , doesnt reflect when my application starts, it always starts with some damn fixed size , what can be the issue .
    waiting.........

  • How to set the fix size jframe window

    when I run the jframe ,the jframe window size is very small
    1)how to set the fix size jframe window??
    2)how to set the jframe cannot change the window size??
    thx~~

    1. You can set the size by calling JFrame's method setSize. There are two versions of this method: (1) setSize(int width, int height) and (2) setSize(Dimension d). Note, that when you use this method to set the frame size, you don't have to call JFrame's pack method.
    2. JFrame has a method called setResizable(boolean resizable) which you can call with the argument false.
    Without any ill intent, these questions are regarding something that is very easily answered by looking at the documentation for the JFrame class. I suggest to anyone working with swing to at least look briefly through the base classes they're extending before giving up. In my experience it is always more gratifying to figure things out on my own than asking someone. But please don't take this the wrong way, I respect people who seek out help in order to further their knowledge, instead of just giving up.

  • How to set the background for all components?

    hi
    Does anybody know how to set the DEFAULT background color in an application.. I need it because in jdk 1.3 the default bgcolor is grey and in 1.5 it is white.. and I wish white as well.. so to make it also white in jdk 1.3 I need to use the (a bit annoying) anyContainer.setBackground( Color.white ); and these are lots in my app.. • How to set the frame size?

    Hi,
    Can some one show me how to set the frame size in this program? History: I have created a window and added a button but its to small. So I want to increase the size of the frame to at least 600X400 pixel.
    private static void showGUI() {
            //Create and set up the window.
            JFrame frame = new JFrame("ButtonDemo");
            frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
            //Create and set up the content pane.
            Main newContentPane = new Main();
            newContentPane.setOpaque(true); //content panes must be opaque
            frame.setContentPane(newContentPane);
            //Display the window.
            frame.pack();
            frame.setVisible(true);
        }It would be nice if you could show me how to do it.
    Thank you very much for reading this.

    Simply adding
    frame.setSize(new Dimension(600,400));to the end of your code should work perfectly.Or, if you want to do it correctly, .setPreferredSize() on your frame before you .pack() it. The default layout manager for JFrame is BorderLayout, which uses the preferredSize of each component to calculate sizes during the .pack() call.

  • How to set a Swing component as Modal window on a SWT Component.?

    How to set a Swing component as Modal on a SWT Component.I mean, I have a window (SWT Container) with some menu items.
    When I click on one menu item then i will get one new Swing Window.
    When creating the new frame I had passed Modal value as TRUE in the constructer.Now child is not behaving as Modal Window.I mean I am able to go to parent window even though the child window is opened as a Modal Window.This is only happened when I double click on the Title Bar of the Parent Window.
    If I try to click on any other part of the Parent Window except Title bar ... the child window is working as a Modal Window.
    Can any one suggest me to solve this one !!

    int this case, do this :
    JFrame f = new JFrame("Authentification");
    f.getContentPane().setLayout(new BorderLayout());
    f.getContentPane().add(myJPanel, BorderLayout.CENTER);
    f.setBounds(x,y,w,h);
    f.setVisible(true);
    Where myJPanel is the Panel you developped.

  • How to set a Swing component as Modal on a SWT Component?

    How to set a Swing component as Modal on a SWT Componen?.I mean, I have a SWt Component window and from that window I am displaying a SWING Component Modal window.
    The problem is my swing window is not working as Modal always.
    When I opened the swing window from SWT window,swing window is working as Modal.But if Idouble click on Menubar or Title bar of the SWT Window then my Swing window goes back.If I click on any other part of the SWT window.. then once again Swing window is working as modal.
    Can any one suggest me to solve this?
    I think this is isuue related with Swing over SWT..

  • Setting JFrame Color

    Hi everyone I have a problem setting JFrame background color and the Foreground color.
    Here is part of my code where I have the problem.
    import java.io.*;
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import java.text.*;
    public class userInfo extends Frame
       JPanel userFields= new JPanel();
       JPanel buttonsPanel = new JPanel();
       JLabel userName = new JLabel("User Name");
       JLabel lastName = new JLabel("Last Name");
       JButton submitButton= new JButton("Submit");
       public static void main(String[] args)
          userInfo User = new userInfo();
          User .setTitle("User Information");
          User .setSize(300, 175);
          User .setVisible(true);
       public userInfo()
         // Colors
          setBackground(Color.blue);  //-------> Doesn;t want to set the background color to blue, it flickers for a second and then go grey
          setForeground(Color.white); //-------> Doesn;t want to set the foreground color to white, it stays at black.
          submitButton.setForeground(Color.black);
         //Set layout managers
         setLayout(new BorderLayout());
         userFields.setLayout(new GridLayout(4,2));
         buttonsPanel .setLayout(new FlowLayout());
         userFields.add(userName );
         userFields.add(lastName );
         buttonsPanel .add(submitButton);
         add(userFields, BorderLayout.CENTER);
         add(buttonsPanel , BorderLayout.SOUTH);
    }I've also tried to set the JPanels to blue, that works, but if I set the JPanels foreground to white it doesn't want to apply.
    userFields.setBackground(Color.blue);
    userFields.setForeground(Color.white);How can I set the JFrame background color to blue and the foreground to white?
    I've also tried, but it also doesn;t work.
    getContentPane().setBackground(Color.blue);

    Hi jswim
    thanks for the reply.
    I've done that but if I do that I can as well just set the.
    JPanel.setBackground(Color.blue);Is there a way to set the text of the JLabel thats added to the JPanel to default to white?
    Example is to add the following and the text is displayed by default in white on the JPanel:
    JPanel fieldPanel = new JPanel();
    JLabel userName = new JLabel("User Name");
    fieldPanel.add(userName);I know you can do it by setting the text on the JLabel to white, but if you have allot of JLabels it would be alot of coding to do that.
    Or is that the only way to do it?
