How to set up automatic syslog configuration?

A colleague recently asked: "I am wondering whether I need to specify
the "appid" (something like "nqcg") when I connect the collector to the
syslog event source. If yes, do I specify it in the "Syslog Message
Filter" dialog? It's asking for a message filter pattern. Do I put in
something like nqcg:*? Or, do I specify my "appid" as the "Applications"
property value in the Syslog:Map Output(appid) connection mode XML node
in the "connectionMethods.xml" file?
The answer to this question lies in the Syslog Connector documentation,
mostly, and some samples are provided in the template, but it's left up
to the developer, somewhat, to figure out how to put all the pieces
together.

OK, so first some background:
- The Syslog Connector is pretty sophisticated - it will automatically
apply a proper syslog header if the event source does not provide one,
and will also pre-parse out a number of key pieces of information from
syslog headers (generated and provided) to provide metadata about the
event records received.
- The Connector will, for example, extract the facility etc, date/time,
and the Observer information from the syslog header. It will also figure
out which system is sending it the data (which may or may not be the
same as the actual Observer) and report that as well. All this metadata
is attached to the actual received record in various record fields like
's_syslogRelayIP' etc (see the Connector doc for details, which vary
slightly between different versions of the Connector).
- In addition, the Syslog Connector will take a peek at the first chunk
of data in the actual record body (usually up to the first ':'
character, and based on that set the 's_AppId' field. This often
corresponds to the name of the application that generated the actual
event record.
- So, the Syslog Connector extracts all this useful stuff - what does
it do with it? Well, this is where the Collector comes in - essentially,
the Connector can "register" to handle specific sets of data. There are
three layers here:
1) The Collector can declare itself to be the
'UniversalSyslogCollector'. In this case, all event records that are
otherwise unallocated will come to this Collector. Obviously, this
should only be one Collector in the system at a time, and is typically
our provided Generic Event Collector.
2) The Collector can register to handle specific applications. In this
case, for each and every event received if the Syslog Connector detects
the associated application ID, it will route that data to the Collector
that knows how to handle that data. If necessary, it will auto-create a
new Event Source node in ESM to represent the single application running
on the single Observer source that is sending data to that Collector.
3) The Collector can supply a regular expression matching pattern to
help the Connector identify the Collector to which Observer data should
be sent. In this scenario, all input records are checked against the
regex until the match is found; then all the Observer's data is sent to
the associated Collector.
- The way that these nest can be a little confusing, so I'll explain a
bit further here in terms of the chain of actions that take place when a
new event source starts sending data to Sentinel:
a) When a new connection is detected from a new event source
(determined from the syslog header hostid, which is either an IP or
hostname), a new Event Source node is immediately created in ESM to
represent the new source (well, actually, this is determined by policy
on the Event Source Server). This node is attached to the Generic Event
Collector initially, since we don't yet know anything about the source.
b) Inbound records will be compared against all the available
registered regex matching patterns for all installed Collectors; if a
match is found, then the Event Source is determined to be the product
for which the associated Collector was written - so for example it might
figure out that the stream of data coming from a particular server is
SUSE Liinux data. The Syslog Connector will then instantiate a new
instance of the SUSE Linux Collector (if necessary), and *move* the
existing Event Source node to be handled by that Collector.
c) At the same time, all inbound records are compared against the set
of registered application IDs, and if a match is found, another Event
Source node is created and attached to a new instance of the associated
Collector.
It might not be obvious why the system works this way, but the reason
is that we often have scenarios where a particular application can
actually run on several different platforms. So, for example, Apache Web
Server can run on both SUSE Linux and Solaris - we have Collectors for
all three. A new event source will start sending data such as logins,
account creates, etc and eventually the Syslog Connector will figure out
"hey, that's a Solaris box" and route the data appropriately. At the
same time, however, if events from 'httpd' (Apache) arrive intermingled
with the same event stream, then they will be routed to the Apache
Collector instead of the Solaris Collector.

  • How to set up automatic payment for the purchase order

    Hi, All,
I have one question how to set up automatically payment for the Rent Office purchase Order?
There is the requirement from the client. They want to create one kind of purchase order for the Office Rent, then pay the fees in the certain time of every month to the vendor for the rent fees without any invoice. Whatu2019s the normal solution for this kind of purchase order? Is it ERS? Or something else?
Please give me the details and business flow. Also please tell me how to setup in the SAP and T-code.
    Thanks in advance

Either you can set up ERS or you can pay directly from the FI side.
    Prerequisites
Evaluated receipt settlement must be flagged in the purchase order item.
The vendor must be flagged as being subject to ERS in the vendor master record.
The goods receipt must refer to a purchase order.
Goods-receipt-based Invoice Verification must be defined for the purchase order item.
A tax code must have been maintained in the purchase order item.
The order price of the materials may not be an estimated price.
If you flag a vendor as being subject to ERS, the system sets the ERS indicator as a default in each item when you create a purchase order for the vendor. You can prevent this happening for certain vendors by flagging the info record for the material and the vendor as not being subject to ERS.
In Purchasing, you can delete the default ERS indicator in a purchase order item.
Choose Logistics Invoice Verification ® Automatic Settlement ® Evaluated Receipt Settlement (ERS).
    The selection screen appears.
You can use the following criteria to narrow down selection of the transactions to be settled:
    Company code
    Plant
    Goods receipt posting date
    Goods receipt document
Fiscal year of the goods receipt
    Vendor
    Purchase order and order item
You can define the selection criteria for the invoice documents by:
    Delivery
    Purchase order
    Purchase order item
    Goods receipt document
    Credit memo
    Invoice
    Currency
    Choose  Execute.
The system issues a log for Evaluated Receipt Settlement, which displays the following:
    Settled
In line with your selection criteria, the system displays all the order items that were settled (or if you are working in test mode, which would have been settled).
    Could not be settled
In line with your selection criteria, the system displays all order items for which ERS is defined but could not be settled. It also lists the reasons.
If the system reports being unable to invoice a transaction, you should exclude the transaction from ERS to avoid it being included in the log the next time ERS is run.
Select the item and choose Exclude from ERS.
The system also generates and possibly sends a message to inform the vendor(s) about the transaction settled, depending on the settings in Customizing.
You can display the following environment information for the order items selected. To do this, choose Goto ®:
    Display purchase order
    Display invoice
    Display material document
    Display long text

  • How to set up automatic form filling on iPad

Can anyone tell me how do I to set up automatic form filling on iPad.

    From the iPad User guide.
    “Fill in forms
Whether you’re logging in to a website, signing up for a service, or making a purchase, you can fill in a web form using the onscreen keyboard or have Safari fill it in for you using AutoFill.
Tired of always having to log in? When you’re asked if you want to save the password for the site, tap Yes. The next time you visit, your user name and password will be filled in for you.
Fill in a form. Tap any field to bring up the onscreen keyboard. Tap  or  above the keyboard to move from field to field.
Fill it in automatically. Go to Settings > Safari > Passwords & Autofill and turn on Use Contact Info. Then, tap AutoFill above the onscreen keyboard when you’re filling in the form. Not all websites support AutoFill.”

  • How to set up automatic cache purge

I am using the event polling table for setting up automatic cache purging.
I have created a table 'event polling table' in the database with the following fields:
    CATALOGNAME
    DATABASENAME
    OTHER
    SCHEMANAME
    TABLENAME
    UPDATETIME
    UPDATETYPE
    LOAD_ID
with TABLENAME, UPDATETIME, UPDATETYPE as non-nullable fields.
Then I have imported the table to the physical layer of the rpd, set up 'Oracle BI Event tables' in the Utilities as this table and set up a polling frequency of 15min.
I have created a report with 2 columns (DeptID, Saleamt) from 2 tables (Department, Sales) respectively. Both these tables were made 'cacheable' in the physical layer with cache never expires. Now the saved report is ran by logging in once again. So a cache entry is registered. My NQSCONFIG file enables cache.
I have added these 2 tables to the event polling table after the cache entry was registered. Technically after 15min, this cache should be purged automatically as the request created was from these 2 tables. But that does not happen. Even after half hr when I log in and run this report a cachehit occurs as cache still persists. My cache folder is the C:\OracleBIData\cache. I also check entries in the Repository (Manage ->cache).
Please let me know where am I making a mistake.
My goal is to get cache purged automatically every time there's an entry in the EPT. (To test when I create an entry in the EPT, I give the tablename and updatetype (=1), the updatetime is obtained automatically as sysdate.
    Thanks
    ===================================================
For reference I have copied an earlier posting here:
    ===================================================
lets look at all your questions one by one
As the event polling table gets a row added for each table whose data is updated at the end of each ETL run, when exactly does the BI server purges cache related to that table - As soon as the polling happens and it finds a new record in your table
Lets say I set up a polling frequency (in Tools -> Utilities -> Oracle BI Event Tables) to every 60 minutes. At the end of every 60 minutes does the BI server restart by itself or does the polling take place without restart. - Polling takes place only when the server is up (there is no need to restart)
At the end of every 60 minutes does the BI server poll the event polling table whether or not any new rows are added to it? -(Yes )
What exactly happens when a new record is added to the event polling table in the database. - (The cache is purged )
If at the end of the ETL run data in 3 tables has changed, would 3 records be added to the event polling table in the database. - (yes , after the polling happens)
Let me know if you have more questions ...
Another way you can set it up is to create a batch file which would purge a table as its updated (use a procedure to capture the tables which have a value of 1 for update_type or use triggers to populate a table with these table names ) ...once purged you can set up your cache by using ibots (use javascripts) .
    =============================================================================

I seem to have all the steps running except #3 - which is clearing the cache!

  • How to set up automatic connection to a router's login page

When I try to use a public wifi (say at the library) that requires a simple login, my Firefox does not automatically seek the login page. How can I make that automatic? Of course, I am manually connecting to the router and opening my Mozilla, but it simply times out because it finds nothing. In order to make it work, I always have to type in IP address. How do I make Mozilla automatically find the login page once connected to the router?

    jscher2000,
I tried your suggestions: (i) When I clicked a bookmarked page (wsj.com) it continued to spin its wheels and ultimately timed out. (ii) Ctrl+Shift+r did absolutely nothing also.
Also, I tried your suggestions in both Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer to no avail.
There must be a simple setting in either of the two browsers options menus that tells it to automatically seek out a router's login page. Why would this not be occurring on my four month old laptop.
    Thanks for helping.

  • How do you abort automatic network configuration setup to start fresh?

    Hello all -
I am the sole user of the sole Sun workstation where I work. We recently switched from a DHCP network to one which requires static IP addresses on our machines. I did a sys-unconfig to set the network to a "blank" state and rebooted the machine. I was told to randomly select an IP address of the form 192.168.2.XX. Having done so, I managed to choose an address that was being used by another machine. So here is where the problem begins.
Now when I reboot the machine, the machine complains 3 times as follows:
"WARNING eri0 has duplicate address 192.168.2.XX (in use by 00:1d:09:76:25:da); disabled"
and then begins again to try and configure the network (asks if I have a subnet, if I want to use IPv6, etc). However, the configuration process does not start from the beginning (i.e. does not ask for a host name or static IP address, it just skips to the subnet question). As I go through this process, the system eventually says:
"The IP address previously set on the network interface is no longer available. The system state is corrupted. System identification can no longer continue. Press Return to continue".
Pressing Return simply repeats the above message and I appear to be stuck.
How can I abort the network reconfiguration process? I'd like to do a sys-unconfig once again and try a different IP address.
I'm using a SunBlade 2000 with a Sun keyboard and a Sun monitor running Solaris 10.
    Thanks very much, Lynne

Boot into single user mode: "boot -sw"
If you entered everything correctly but the IP address, you can just change the IP address by editing /etc/inet/hosts and /etc/inet/ipnodes.
Otherwise run sys-unconfig again and start over.

    Hi
Depending on your needs, you may find that Set level offers the best approach:
Within a Set you have the Playbacks (Set Level, so they work for the entire set) with individual patches in the set "live" for the EWI etc as needed.
You need only map one set of controls for all the Playbacks since only 1 set can run at a time.

  • How to set up automatic back up of an internal storage drive?

I am using Time Machine in conjunction with Time Machine Editor to perform scheduled back ups of my boot disk to an internal hard drive. However, I have two additional hard drives in my Mac Pro that I wish to use for (1) media libraries and (2) a back up of those media libraries. Thus far, I have been unable to figure out a way to use Time Machine to designate the second internal drive as a back up device for the first internal drive on which my media libraries are stored. Does anybody have a solution for setting this up using Time Machine or another utility or application?
    Thanks in advance.

Time machine can have a substantial blacklist of files NOT to back up, if you prefer.
Some users have separated their Boot Drive, containing only System, Library, Applications, and the hidden unix files including paging/swap onto a separate drive. User files are moved off to a different drive.
In addition to a performance boost, a Boot Drive gives you remarkable flexibility in Backup solutions and upgrades.
For Backups, you can choose to backup the boot drive separately using the same or different methods.
For Upgrades, you can simply substitute a different boot drive whenever you wish, without having to cart all the User files with you and backup and restore them to the main drive. The main Admin account is present immediately. For the User accounts, only one minor change in Accounts is needed once to make them instantly available under a different system.
