How to set up use of DVI port to external VGA monitor

How do I set up a powerpoint on an external screen using the DVI port to VGA. To make the powerpoint show on the computer screen as well as the external screen, what do I need to do on the MacBook Pro?

I have a MacBook Pro (15 inch, early 2008) which I use at my camera club for connecting to its projector. My Apple DVI to VGA adapter clearly has dodgy internal connections leading to a variety of colour casts. Although only five years old, this adapter is no longer available, which seems an absurdly short time to carry spares unless, of course, that is the life expectancy of a MacBook Pro. I had only used this adapter half a dozen times before it went on the blink, to much crowing from the Windows crowd. What am I to do?

Having just come back to Apple, last having used a Apple 2E way back in the 70's, I've got to get used to non-IBM compatible stuff!
Please advise which cable is needed to hook up to a standard IBM compatible VGA screen/cable.
Also, will the same cable do for an overhead projector with a VGA input port.

That older iMac isn't designed to receive video input through the mini-DVI connection. Only certain newer iMacs are able to be used as displays.
Your only options are to use something like ScreenRecycler mentioned above.

Can I use the Apple ADC to DVI adapter with a VGA monitor?

Hey everybody,
I have a quick question. I work on computers fr friends and family as a hobby. I have an ADC monitor and need ot be able to hook up computers with a VGA port on them to it. Can I use the Apple ADC to DVI adapter along with an Apple DVI to VGA adapter to successfully connect VGA computers to my ADC display? I was assuming this would work and ordered both adapters but now I have made myself nervous about weather or not this will actually work. Has anybody out there successfully done this? Thanks for your help in advance everybody.

You can't run an ADC display with a VGA computer without a converter. Adapters won't do it.

Your title says "Can I use the Apple ADC to DVI adapter with a VGA monitor?". If you want to connect a VGA monitor to a computer's ADC port you need the ADC to VGA adapter

I cannot use any external monitor, it appear like the port doesn't work , i'm using the mini-dvi port with a VGA adaptor ,

I've always used the port normally with different monitor but by a couple of weeks it appear like no signal come out.
Does Anyone knows what can i do ? i.e. How to check or reset the Mini-dvi port ? or if there's any key on the keyboard that can habilitate it or not ?

You don't have to do anything to make the port work. Reset the SMC > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
If it doesn't work, try with another monitor to see if it works or another cable. If you haven't got another display, take the MacBook Pro to an Apple Store or reseller, so Apple will test the port and see if it works correctly

How to set up use of relative URLs for a BSP application

Dear all,
I need to access a BSP application through our external portal.
This is failing because generated URLs are absolute URLs (they mention physical server name, not known of course on the internet) where they should be relative URLs (they use external portal URL as prefix).
How to set this up?
I'm logged on http://myportal.com/irj/portal and want to call a BSP application. To build this page, my internet client (Internet Explorer) tries to get elements from the server. Looking at HTTP trace, I can see that my IE is trying to reach the physical server, not known on internet of course, then page loading fails.
Ex absolute URL : http://myservername.domain.com/sap/bw/[...]/image1.gif
This is the behavior I can see at the moment.
Relative URL : http://myportal.com/sap/bw/[...]/image1.gif
This is what I'd like to see.

Using Mini Dvi port as input

Okay I need your help guys. I have a 2008 Imac, which means it uses Mini-DVI output.
what i want to know is, can i use this as an input for my PS3 using a Mini-DVI to HDMI adapter so i can play PS3 on my imac display?

No, it can't. Only the Mini DisplayPort and Thunderbolt ports on the newer iMacs support input.

How to set alias using Essbase Studio?

I have read through P113-P118 "Oracle Essbase Studio User Guide" about the how to set up alias. It seems easy t create the Alias Set according to the document.
I want to set 100-10 alias as "Cola", the information comes from the TBC relational database. The product table in RLDB has field SKU and SKU_Alias columns, the value of SKU is: 100-10,100-20, etc.
My binding is:

connection : TBC::TBC.Product.SKU_ALIAS
This is using the grammer in page 115

But after I deployed the cube, I cannot see the product alias name as expected from EAS? I tried 100 times, but cannot find what's wrong with me. Please advise, thanks!

First it may be useful to convert the EIS TBC model to Studio, to do this you would have to configure EIS and create the TBC sample application.
Once it has been created in Studio you can go to Tools > EIS Catalog migration and migrate the TBC app from EIS to Studio.
If you use this method all the aliases etc will be already set up so you can see how it is done.
To set up Aliases you would go to
Tools > "Alias set Manager" > Create a new alias say "Default" and add a binding e.g. PRODUCTDIM.SKU to PRODUCTDIM.SKUALIAS
Then on your Model right click "Essbase Properties" > Alias tab > Select the Default alias table and move to the selected tables window.
This should of then assigned the default table, if you check the properties of say PRODUCTDIM.SKU in the alias tab Default and the mapping should be shown.

Can I use a Mac mini with a VGA monitor?

The Mac mini web page lists an Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter as an accessory, but the Mac mini doesn't appear to have a Mini DisplayPort.
The Mac mini also has an HDMI to DVI Adapter included, but would this allow a VGA monitor to be connected via an additional DVI to VGA cable? ie. can the HDMI port provide an analogue signal that a VGA monitor can receive?

Some Mac Minis do have mini-DisplayPorts. In these two it is between the HDMI and the USB ports:
(yes Thunderbolt should accept mini-Displayport).
In this one it is between the Mini-DVI and the USB ports:
Only the oldest Intel models would you need a different adapter to VGA
Those you would need a DVI to VGA adapter from Apple such as this one. Note, DVI to VGA is converting digital to analog, and not very useful, unless your TV has neither DVI nor HDMI. DVI is much better converted up to HDMI. And the audio would have to come in separately. So depending on your display model and make, you may be asking for the wrong adapter. VGA is fine if all you are going to do is view DVDs on an old TV. But if you want the ability to use the Dock, menubar, etc..., it is good to have a 1080p TV with built-in HDMI or better.
