How to sort only a selected area?

I'm trying to sort only a selected area (4 of my 5 columns) and not the entire table. Numbers help is worthless and nothing I've tried works. Any thoughts?

As well as copying the data to a second table, sorting it there, then pasting it back into the original table, Numbers lets you select and drag one or more columns from a table, then drop it on the sheet, where it will automatically become a new table.
Here's an example:
This is the original 10 column table. We wish to sort columns E, F and G into alphabetical order, while leaving the other columns in their original order. note the four locations where AAA, BBB, CCC and EEE appear in the same line.
Click on any cell in column E. When the column tabs appear, select columns E, F and G by clicking on the E tab, then dragging to add to the selection.
When the three columns are selected, click and hold on one of the three tabs, drag up until the columns separate from the table, then drag the selected columns to an empty space on the sheet. Drop to form a new three column table.
If you now select column A on this table and Sort Ascending, the result will be as shown:
Note that rows in the three columns moved together. If this is the result you are looking for, skip to the last step. If you want each of the three rows sorted individually, continue from here.
To sort the three columns individually, each must be in a separate table. Separate them in the same manner as you did to separate the three column group from the original table: Select the individual column, then drag it's tab up until it separates, then left or right as appropriate and drop it to form a single column table. Take care to keep the separate columns in their original left to right order.
Sort each column in turn.
LAST STEP
After sorting, drag each column (or the group of three if you did not sort the columns separately and individually) back to its place in the original table. Click on the temporary table to show the tab(s), Select the column(s), then click and drag a tab to move the column(s) to the original table. As you approach th place they came from, a double blue line will appear to show where the column(s) will be inserted if dropped. Drop at the appropriate location. If you are moving single columns, repeat until done.
Finished. Note that each of the red columns is now in order. While AAA and BBB remain together, the other 'matched sets' no longer match.

              I'm using dissolve sample plugin. I added two layers in photoshop both of different dimensions, say 1000 * 1000 & 2000 * 2000. Now I select the layer with 1000 * 1000 dimension and click on Dissolve plugin. The preview image what is shown in dissolve plugin dialog is not just the selected layer, but also some extra pixels around the selected layer.
    Do I need to set any flag for getting only selected layer data to display in preview?
    Also I need to get only the selected area in a particular layer. When I checked FilterRecordPtr, haveMask flag is TRUE if the part of the layer is selected. But how do I get only the part of the layer that is selected for displaying preview image?
    Please let me know if the description is not clear.

    That is exactly the same thing what I'm seeing.
    1.Is there a direct way to know the bounds of the layer without the transparency grid so that I can show only the layer?
    2. If I select an area of 50*50 within a layer(1000*1000) using Rectangular Marquee tool, then I want only that selected area to be shown in preview. For this there is a haveMask flag which indicates whether or not there is selection, but the selected bounds are not available. I'm currently calculating the bounds. I just wanted to know if Photoshop SDK has any field for getting the bounds?

    Thanks for your effort but this again clearly does NOT answer my question. I do see a particular problem and that is that I might want to select text and images over a range of multiple pages. In a doc of 20 pages I might want to make a single selection of the text starting PRECISELY at the MIDDLE of page 2 and then continue dragging my selection all the way to PRECISELY the MIDDLE of page 15, thereby selecting all text and images within the precise range of my selection. That is some 13 pages there and I want to print out ONLY THAT selection of text and images. And in that case I cannot use your suggestion with the marquee zoom. Do you get me?

    I have also issues with the rectangular marquee tool.
    Once I make a selection the cursors turn to the pointer-+ (add to selection) automatically as if I was pressing the shift key.
    I can only add to selection at this point and can't move the selection or discard it by clicking outside of it.
    Al other marquee tools are fine.

  • How to blur/darken a selected area?

    Using PS Elements 11 I can easily selecte (quick selection tool or smart brush tool) an area of a photo that I want to adjust, but I'm adbsolutely stymied as to how to apply the adjustment I want to that selected area???  How do I do it???  I have the area selected (e.g. I've slected a very bright sunlit area of a photo) that I want to make darker ... how do it do that?
    Or I've selected an area of a photo that, after using the composition tool, has a lot of serious jagged lines, and I want to blur/smooth that area ... I've tried every conceivalbe combination (max radius etc.) of the blur filter, but nothing seems to significantly blur the selected part of the image. I would have thought that, given a "maximum" blur "setting", it would be possible to blur a selected piece of image into a uniform monotone blend ... is that not possible?

    For your first problem, I would suggest you to do the following:
    Make a selection around the area you want to modify using selection tool ( quick selection/marquee selection tool), which I guess you have already done.
    with the selection tool selected, right click the inside the selection and choose "layer via copy"
    On the new created layer, you can apply adjustments. The adjusments are all clubbed under Enhance menu. For your particular need, I would suggest you to use Level correction from Enhance > Lightening> Levels
    For your second problem, I would suggest you to use the blur tool around the jagged lines with appropriate settings. You can use the blur tool again and again over an area to increase the amount of blur applied

  • How do view ONLY the selected clip?

    Is the sequence marker the ONLy way to view a selected clip(s) -- along with the Play-In to Out button?
    Often times, I just want to view just one clip in the timeline after I've added effects. If I don't set a sequence marker, PPro plays the entire sequence in the entire timeline of the project, which is more than what I want to view.
    Is there any other way, other than setting sequence markers, to view JUST the selected clip(s)?
    I thought that, intuitively, selecting a clip (or group of clips) with my pointer would by default playback ONLY the selected clip(s). But I guess not.

    I used the work area bar and it did nothing. I played the clip(s) under the work area bar, but it continued playing beyond the bar. Also, when I hit Play again, it started from the beginning of the timeline, not the beginning of the clip under the bar. So, the work area bar seems to only have use when you want to preview something by rendering the tracks under the bar. Otherwise, nothing special. The work area bar is useless to me, unless someone shows me the light.

    I have the cs suite, and recently downloaded the lightroom demo. I am fairly good with picking up programs but couldn't locate where or how i can select individual elements to lighten/darken? If i wanted to make a an object lighter, should i be doing this within ps or is there an easy to use tool within lightroom?
    Second question, when exporting into ps, what is the best practice.. should i only adjust lighting and any other edits within ps?

    Take a look at the Adjustment Brush. It's in the tool pallette, just below the histogram when you're in the Develop Module. It will not only dodge and burn, but allow you to apply lots of other kinds of local changes.
    In general, I find that I can do everything in Lightroom for most images.

    I am using the latest Pages app on my iPad2.  I want to only put certain documents from Pages into iCloud.  I want to do the same with Numbers and Keynote.  In other words, I want to decide what does and does not go onto iCloud. 
    Is there a way to do so?  If not how can I save Pages documents to Dropbox?

    There is no way on an iDevice to sync Pages docs (which are stored in the Pages app's sandbox) to Dropbox.
    You can't decide which docs go to icloud, it's all or nothing.
    But on the mac side, you can decide which pages files are synced to icloud and which are not.  That's as close as you can get to controlling what is stored in icloud.

    First block is for search criteria, The results in the second block are displayed based on the values entered in the first block. Second block is a multi record block.
    Below is my requirement:
    I want to edit the record in the second block, based on the cursor position.
    For EX: If the cursor is placed on the first record, all the fields in the first record should be in the editable mode.
                  If I move the cursor down, the next record should be editable and the previous record should again go back to non editable mode.
    I have tried using :system.cursor_record, but it's applying the editable property to all fields, irrespective of the cursor position.
    Any suggestions would be of great help.

    Why would you need to do this...it seems unnecessary to me because your user can only edit the record they are physically at.  So, if your user is in record 3 he/she can't edit record 5.
    Now, to the specific issue you are having - if you are using the SET_ITEM_PROPERTY() built-in to make a record "Editable" then what you are seeing is expected results.  The SET_ITEM_PROPERTY() built-in affects ALL instances of a specific item.  If you need to set item instance specific properties then you need to use the SET_ITEM_INSTANCE_PROPERTY() built-in.  However, this built-in does not have the same set of properties that it can set.  Take a look at the Forms Help to compare these built-ins.
    If you must make each record editiable as your user navigates through them here is how I would attempt this.  I must reiterate however, I really don't think this is necessary...but I don't know your requirements .
    1.  Create a Forms parameter to caputure the CURRENT and PREVIOUS Record number.
    I prefer a parameter object over a Global because you can't choose the data type of a Global so you have to cast the value to accurately perform any numeric calculations on a Global.
    2.  Create/update When-New-Record-Instance trigger...

    I'm trying to create an animated gif using PS and I can't find out how to copy multiple layers. Right now I have 110 different layers and I want to select the same portion of every layer and copy it into a new file without flattening the image. So I want to be able to start, and end with, 110 layers. The 110 different layers are all separate pictures of my desktop and I want to crop out most of the desktop to focus on one area in particular. Is there anyway to do this?

    One could delete, select next layer, delete, select next layer … which should be Action-able.
    Or duplicate the image and crop it to the intended size.
    Or why not simply put the Layers into a Group and add a Layer Mask to that?

    A clarification: the workaround suggested by Stephen applies to sites published to third-party hosts. For sites published to Adobe Business Catalyst, master page content is also editable.
    Could you give examples of content you wouldn't want editable in the browser?
