How to speed up export in our screencasting application

Hi there,
We've built a small cocoa app that captures screen activity and turns it into quicktime movies. We're encoding the videos via quicktime using h.264 and this process takes around 3-4 times the length of the recording. I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions about how we could increase encoding/export speeds?
Oh, and if you happen to know any great freelance Mac encoding experts, I'd love to hear from them.

  • How to speed up export import

    Database 10.2.0
While doing export/import operation what are factors effecting the speed of operation..?

Below are the points which I collected from different links in my Oracle Notes:
    Faster Export:
    1. direct=y
    2. subsets by query option
    3. proper buffer size by rows in array * max row size
    4. place the dump file to another disk (which is not having any datafile; to avoid I/O contention)
    5. when database activity is low (in the morning or late eve)
    6. PARALLEL
    Faster Import:
    1. indexes=n
    2. constraints=n
    3. user large buffer parameter
    4. increase recordlength
    5. commit=n
    6. statistics=none
    7. enough undo size
    8. enough pga/sort_area_size
    9. enough / Increase db_cache_size/db_block_buffers size and share_pool_size
    10. when database activity is low (in the morning or late eve)
    11. PARALLEL
Now check how your import is going on:
    select
    substr(sql_text,instr(sql_text,'into "'),30) table_name,
    rows_processed, round((sysdate-to_date(first_load_time,'yyyy-mm-dd hh24:mi:ss'))*24*60,1) minutes,
    trunc(rows_processed/((sysdate-to_date(first_load_time,'yyyy-mm-dd hh24:mi:ss'))*24*60)) rows_per_minute
    from
    sys.v_$sqlarea
    where
    sql_text like 'insert %into "%' and command_type = 2 and open_versions > 0;

  • How to speed up export in Adobe Premiere CC

Can somebody talk me thru the basics of exporting media in Adobe Premiere CC? I have a one-hour movie with some lighting effects applied. I can't believe how long it takes to export. The quickest combination I could find was exporting to Quicktime and using HD 720p YouTube preset and it looks like 3 hours 28 minutes.  Other combinations look like they'll take all night? Is that normal? I used to use Final Cut Pro and it was much faster.
    Any tips appreciated.

That wasn't criticism of your equipment ... just stating what is reality in dealing with the current slate of Adobe vid programs. What they're designed to run on, what they can run on ... and what to expect. Your computer specs aren't particularly blazing for mid-2014. And though it irritated the Hades out of me, as my last machine had a Radeon card that was awesome for say, Lightroom and other stills programs ... their coding is really designed for the Cuda stuff included only in the nVidia cards, so the blame programs don't hardly look at a Radeon's GPU no matter how hot it is for say, gaming & other video-intensive things. Yeah, irritated the heck out of my builder, who's a gamer par extraordinaire, and LOVES the awesome things a number of the AMD cards can do particularly as a price-check against comparable nVidia cards.
So ... you wanna play in this pool, you build according to this pool's rules.
PrPro, Ae, and Sg are pretty much designed for major work, and ... have their quirks, including some things that some major-pro's find lacking. When other things are pretty much awesome. There's been a lot of folks leaving Final Cut to come to the Adobe things lately. Some types of projects probably still do better in FC, some in PrPro. Whichever works is what you need to use. I love the interface between PrPro & Speedgrade. For most of what I do, slick as ice.
My one actual digression with your last post ... I don't think there's necessarily a dearth of information by Adobe and others on these programs ... it's that the information that's there by THE HOUR in vids & tutorials and all seems more based on what one CAN do with the programs rather than a simple, direct & forthright HOW to do something. There's always steps & gotcha's that are missed, none of the Adobe vids ever seems exactly what I need for what I'm doing, and lynda-dot-com is where I pretty much go for figuring stuff out. And here. Stupefyingly complex? Oh, yea ... it's interesting to see the comments here every week or two where a major participant explains how to do something, and another Biggie goes ...:" woa! ... I didn't know that could be handled through that set of options, I've always done that through here with 10 additional steps."
Yeah ... documentation could be um ... slightly? ... improved.

  • User exits : How to build and use through our form application ?!

    Hi ,
Im trying to build a user exit based on a C++ program , to be used within our application.
I installed from the Oracle 8 Client CD the Oracle Pro*C/C++ ver 8.0.5 , i have Developer 2000 rel 6.0 patch 7 installed also .
Can anyone please provide me with the steps to build a user exit from A-Z , i read many Documents regarding that but all seems to me complicated , since also im not a C programmer , what i did for the time bieng i searched for file that ends *.pc on my hard disk and i found some of these files , i opend the Pro* C/C++ and it generates for me a *.C file , i reached this stage , then what should i do then to complete the task , for me i went directly to Forms and added a Button that calls the USER_EXIT built-in function , but simply it gave me an error message : User exit doesn't exist .
So Please if you could list for me the steps one by one i would be so graetful to you .
Thanx all in advance for all your efforts .
    Islam

Why not make a stored procedure or PL/SQL-procedure? What you have to do is, to build a new version of runform, where you including your user-exits.
But if you insist: Use the help system. They have a description of how to do it on windows. It's more or less the same on unix.

  • How to diagnose flickering exported JS animations from Flash CC?

    Quick stats on my system:
Macbook Pro Retina 2012 running OSX 10.9.3
    Flash CC 13.1.0.226
I'm not experiencing an error so much as a lack of understanding about how to diagnose Flash CC JS export issues. Here's the backstory:
In 2012, my company started working with an contract sprite artist. I was using the CS5.5 Creative Suite, and we were exporting normal png sequences from Flash for use in the game. After about 8 months, my cofounders and I realized that we could both reduce the load time for the game and also allow our artwork to be dynamically scalable by switching to JS exports of our art rather than the raster sprite sheets. Here's the blog post we wrote about it: http://blog.codecombat.com/hacking-our-way-to-vector-artwork-in-html5
At the time, I didn't have Flash CC, and was reliant upon the CreateJS plugin to export the required JS files: CreateJS Developer Center | Adobe Developer Connection After another month or so, our contractor upgraded their version of Flash and we started having compatibility issues reading FLA files, so I upgraded as well. After doing some reading, I concluded that the CreateJS plugin was now incorporated into Flash CC as the HTML5 doc type, which was confirmed when I checked out the publish settings and resulting files.
This is all a rather long winded way of saying that we have legacy artwork created with an older version of Flash but are now importing all of our artwork from JS files.
Fast forward to today and we have two big issues:
    1) We can't figure out how to reduce the filesize of JS exports. As discussed in our blog post, vector artwork has upsides and downsides. One of the downsides we've found is that complex art that uses a lot of shapes ends up being substantially larger (in terms of filesize) than the appearance might otherwise suggest. Raster exports skirt this because a pixel is a pixel, but vector exports scale with the complexity of the source FLA. I'm not a Flash expert, and when we get files that are particularly complex, Flash either runs out of memory exporting them to JS files or we get files that are far too large to reasonably use. To be clear, the "out of memory" error isn't a problem because even if Flash finished the export, the resulting files would be too large for us to use (plus, I've done some digging and found a tutorial for correcting the out of memory error). Our artist is not familiar with the intricacies of the JS Flash exporter, so when we get a file that's too big or breaks the export, neither of us can really figure out a way to correct the problem. We have three questions in particular:
         a) Where can you view shape data that Flash is going to write to the JS files?
         b) Is there any way to edit said shape data inside the Flash CC interface?
         c) Is there any way to optimize shape data in Flash? For instance, in Photoshop, you can flatten images and export a psd with 500 layers as a single JPEG, is there any way to do something similar to shape data in Flash?
    2) Exports frequently break in weird ways. Many of the sprites that we created a year ago haven't needed to be re-imported into our game engine for some time. But every once in a while, I need to go back and fix, improve, or tweak an existing sprite, and then I run smack into the issue of reconciling files that were created without thought to JS exports with our current system. Just last week I was running into this issue in a big way and I made a screencast for our artist (since we work remotely) that I hoped might give him a better idea of the problem: Flash Errors - Treasure Chest, Flippable Tile - YouTube
The two files mentioned in that screencast are both old (treasure chest) and new (flippable land tile). We have a few questions:
         a) Why are the treasure chest frames "flickering" in the html5 preview? The problem doesn't appear inside Flash and is inconsistent between files. There are two FLA files: one in which the treasure chest is empty, and one in which it's full. The empty animation doesn't throw any errors, either when converting to the HTML5 doc type or on export, but the resulting animation flickers. The full treasure, on the other hand gives me 21 lines of these errors when I do the conversion (not when I export): "Blend Modes(Layer) is not supported in HTML5 Canvas document, and has been converted to Normal in an instance of Movieclip <Path>." The result in both cases is the same: the animations flicker, and neither our artist nor us can figure out why, or for that matter, even begin to troubleshoot it. This SO issue seems to describe the problem, but was never resolved, and I can't find anything else that seems to address it: CreateJS Publish of Flash Project Flickers - Stack Overflow
I've uploaded the files involved to a public dropbox folder which I think you'll be able to access (Dropbox seems to be having some problems at the moment): Dropbox - flash_debugging
Since my questions are fairly involved, and my goal is to gain a better understanding of the UI, not simply resolve an error, I'd be happy to pay for someone's expertise/time in getting me up to speed. You can get in touch with me at george [at] codecombat.com

    Hi George,
I have taken a look at the files full_treasure_chest.fla and flippable_land.fla that you have shared via drop box and found that they both uses blank keyframe(s) followed by Keyframe(s). This was an issue and has been addressed in the latest release Flash CC 2014 (released on 18 June, 2014). Can you please install the latest build 14.0.0.110 and try this out?
    Thanks!

  • How to speed up the loading of live data into flash file.

How to speed up the loading of live data into flash file if the swf file size is 1.5 MB. Flash file is using 20 web service connections to load the live data.

    Hello,
I am also facing a similar problem wherein the SWF file takes time to load the refreshed data in Infoview i.e. after exporting the xlf file to Business Objects platform. Currently I am using Xcelcius Engage/Enterprise 2008 SP3 Windows (file name: 51038212.ZIP) version 5.3.0.0 build number 12,3,0,670. Also the SWF file is approximately 2MB in size  and it uses 42 live office connections.
Please suggest solution as to how to decrease the time it takes to refresh the live office connections.

  • How to invoke the exported function of odbc32.dll

    Hi,
I am unable to find the dll (SQLAllocHandle.dll) in our system. Its mentioned that the ‘SQLAllocHandle’ is one of the exported function of odbc32.dll
I want to find out how to invoke this exported function and make use of the same in our system?
    Regards,

Your question leads me to believe you're not sure what you're asking.
SQLAllocHandle is an ODBC api call, and you use it in your ODBC API program, the same way you use other ODBC api calls.
Here's an example of a simple ODBC API program that uses SQLAllocHandle.
    Hope it helps,

  • How can I properly export video w/ bars to Rec709 (16-235 in 8-bit) from Premiere's RGB (0-255)?

I have hit some real frustrations in working with Premiere to meet broadcast Rec709 standards for DVD & Blu-Ray. Avid Symphony works in a Rec709 space and clearly operates with its video signal from 16-235 (which matches IRE 7.5 to 100), but Premiere doesn't seem to have this understanding in its programming and engineering. Here are my issues:
    1) I can't manually enter in the digital values in the RGB Curve tool's points. Why would Premiere's engineers lock this basic feature out? It's in Photoshop.
    2) I can't properly export Premiere's color bars. In order to export to Rec709 standards, to get around issue #1, I hack into the RGB Curves preset XML file to lift the Master Curve's point 1 from 0 to 16 and set the final white point from 255 to 235. If I use Premiere's bars, on the waveform, I can see the sub-black values, but when I lift the blacks with the curves preset, it clips all sub-black values upon export. WHY?! To get around this problem, I import bars generated by a camera (for example, by a Sony EX-350, i.e. XDCAM footage). All of this wouldn't be an issue if there were an export function that specifies exporting to rec709's 16-235 values instead of 0-255, as Avid does.
    3) Particularly, the Waveform scope lies to me. The 7.5 IRE setup button does NOTHING for me, it's just a preview option that causes more confusion than clarity. Does Premiere map 0 out of 0-255 as 0 IRE or 7.5 IRE? I think it does the former and just uses that setup button to make you think that it's at 7.5. so if you do set it to 7.5, how then do you export it to match that option? Also, why can't the waveform scope have multiple options for the units - not just IRE, but also digital values (8-bit, 10-bit, linearized, etc.)?!
    4) Speaking of importing the bars and footage. To continue the example of the Sony EX-350 - it imports the bars automatically by putting the black values at 0 IRE, not 7.5 IRE.
If Adobe wants industry professionals to take Premiere seriously, it needs to open up these options and clearly present what happens to tonal values in the image. It's very frustrating to figure out all of these problems and create cockamamy work-arounds.

    Steve,
Thanks for your reply! However, I hope you don't take my response the wrong way, but, with no meaning of disrespect to you personally, the notion that curves are the wrong tool for numeric adjustments extremely infuriates me and displays a real lack of understanding of why a colorist or cinematographer such as myself would want to use curves in the first place.
First, any LUT generation program or coloring program, such as Apple Color, gives complete access to numerical control to give precise, repeatable changes that you cannot get with the drag of a mouse. Photoshop, Avid Symphony, etc. all have curves tools with the ability to manually enter points.
Second, on a user level, there should be no wrong tool for numeric adjustments, especially curves - they are the most precise means to obtain a specific contrast response. Levels or RGB corrector will only give gamma, pedestal, and gain operations, but curves gives every possible shape of a contrast response in between. If I wanted to create a very specific S-curve, I must use the curves tool to do so.
Third, the question at hand is not Premiere Pro's ability to process natively in Rec709 with signal from 16-235 - Premiere's native ability to process all types of video input is the sole reason why I've switched to it as a platform. 'Sub-black values are not necessarily clamped'?! How then can I export a TIFF, for example, of Premiere's bars, with the sub-black values left intact? How do I even access these sub-black values, when all footage clips below 0 IRE? The primary question is, how does Premiere handle and export these IRE values with respect to digital values, whether they are 8-bit, 10-bit, 12-bit, etc.?
Adobe's video workflow lacks a concise, cohesive FAQ or explanation of its numerical signal chain. At least, I have missed it and can't find it anywhere. If I want to properly color grade footage with a proper final output in mind, I need to know my end goals to take the proper intermediary steps.
    SteveHoeg wrote:
Hey Tim - Premiere Pro can process natively in Rec709 with signal from 16-235 you do not need special adjustments. Curves are the wrong tool for numeric adjustments, try Levels or RGB Corrector. Sub black values are not necessarily clamped on export.  --sh

Without syncing to just one account?
We each have our own laptops.

    Hmm.
Probably easier for me to put all my stuff on my wife's computer I suppose.
Rebuilding all those iTunes playlists is not very fun though.
And of course anything new that I want on my laptop I will have to duplicate on her laptop in the future.
Not sure how iCloud works just yet.
So you can't have two laptops and manually sync both people's stuff to one iPad?

Have them install Quicktime on their PC's from Apple's website, that's the easiest fix.

My wife and I have separate have separate user accounts on our IMac.  We have separate Apple IDs for iTunes.  How can we use iCloud on our separate iPhones without sharing contacts, calendars, etc.

If have separate iCloud accounts and want to keep your all your iCloud data separate, you can create separate user accounts for each of you, then sign into your individual iCloud account within your user account.
If you want to just add both iCloud calendars on your Mac, you can sign into one iCloud account in System Preferences>iCloud, then add the second account in System Preferences>Internet Accounts>iCloud and only check Calendars with this second account.

  • How to change default Export Format Type in Crystal Report Viewer

We are coding in VB.NET 2005 using the CR2008 SP1 .NET objects.
The Crystal Report Viewer, when displayed, defaults the export type as .rpt (Crystal Reports).
We distribute our .NET application to our customers.  99% of the time, this .rpt format is useless to our customers as they do not have crystal reports developer.  They usually export to a .pdf or .xls format.  Is there a way to default this export option to something other than .rpt?
    Thank you.

Yes, that's as much as I figured.
With the Crystal for .NET methods, the CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine's reportdocument object has an ExportToDisk method.  We wanted to use this (as we used something similar with the RDC) to prompt the user to export.  However, the reportdocument's exporttodisk method does not have an argument that allows for Prompting the user (true/false) like the RDC's export did.  You have to actually know ahead of time the type of export the user wants as well as the filename.  Well, we do not, and therefore, want the user to be able to select the type of export they want as well as enter their own filename.  We want the Crystal methods to prompt for this.  Since we are unable to, we've had to resort to declaring a reportviewer object and setting the viewer's reportsource = to the reportdocument.  We then use the ExportReport() method which defaults to .rpt (which none of our end users have Crystal Developer).  This is why we want to know if there is a way to reset the default export method to something more common (such as .pdf or .xls).  Is there a way to change the reportdocument's file type in order to default the export type?  Just trying to come up with some sort of workaround...
    Thanks
