Import POP mailboxes

I am running OS 10.7 Lion on a 2011 MacBook Pro.
On a Mac Pro, in the Mail.app, I have a POP account in which I have made many nested folders. I would like to set up the same POP account on the 2011 MacBook Pro. But, I do not know how I can import these nested folders from the Mac Pro into the new POP account on the 2011 MacBook Pro.
Please advise.

eroydouglas - I have a minor issue that I would like your help with.
When the importing process was completed, the imported mailboxes showed up in ~/Library/Mail/V2/Mailboxes/Import.mbox
Now, let me cite the following example within the Import.mbox.
Prior to the import, I had a mailbox named publishers. And, within the publishers mailbox, I had several subfolders such as Pearson, Wiley, etc. There were no subfolders within Pearson, Wiley, etc.
In the Import.mbox/publishers/Pearson, I was expecting to see the messages that I had saved. Instead, the import process has created a subfolder called Messages.mbox within the Pearson folder. So, instead of seeing the original messages in the Pearson folder, I now see them in Import.mbox/publishers/Pearson/Messages.mbox.
This is driving me crazy. Is there a way to force the import process to import the original messages into their original folders?

  • Loss of old mail for Pop mailboxes

Recently I had to force my Powerbook G4 to shutdown as it refused to do so on its own. When I turned it back on the next day, all my mail preferences were gone! I had to completely reconfigure my mailboxes (specifically I use two gmail addresses). Now, however, I am receiving and sending mail with no problem, but I don't have my old mail in Mail. When I go to Library, the messages are still there (they're both POP accounts), so I know they're not deleted. I've tried Importing these mailboxes, but I never seem to get the fabled Import Mailbox when I do so. I'm sorry if this is unclear, I'm at a loss for a better, clearer way to explain. Ultimately, I just want my old mail, both sent and in my inbox to reappear in the Mail Application so I can use that wonderful search feature.

    You're welcome.
I just tried removing the [email protected] folder
(keeping a back up copy). I deleted the account and set
it up again, hoping it would reimport my mail from the
gmail server (I'm desperate...), nothing happened.
This is because Gmail only allows messages to be downloaded once with a POP client.
I've still got the copy of the mail, so no worries there.
OK. We'll bring your mail back into Mail, don't worry about that. If the old account folders are no longer in ~/Library/Mail/, do File > Import Mailboxes, choose Mail for Mac OS X as the data format, and select the account folders from the backup (one at a time). Note that you must select the folder that contains the mailboxes (i.e. the account folder), not the mailboxes themselves.
If the old account folders were still in ~/Library/Mail/, the procedure would be different. Let me know if that's the case.
At this point, I can live without my messages.
    That ain't gonna happen...
But do you have any idea what would cause
my preferences in multiple programs to disappear?

is there a way to do this, aside from upgrading to Leopard
the Tiger machine is a G5 iMac running Mail v2.1.3 and the Leopard is an Intel imac running Mail v3.6

    thanks for your reply
i just tried that and got a handful of messages from an old import folder on the other mac

  • Can't import my mailboxes from Tiger Mail into Leopard

    Hi everyone,
I bought a new MBP and I'm now in the process of carefully importing my mailboxes from Tiger mail, on my Tiger backup HD, to the new mail program. I have about 20000 messages saved since 1999, sorted by project etc. Each time I select a batch of mailboxes to import, I get a failure message when it's almost done, saying that some messages couldn't be imported. This is very frustrating: my e-mail archive is possible the most important collection of files on the computer. I would hate for it to become messed up/corrupted.
    Thanks for any suggestions!
    Alex

Try copying the directory ~/Library/Mail/ (the library folder in your home directory) from your old computer to the same location on your Leopard install. I believe the versions of Mail in Tiger and Leopard use the same directory structure, so this should work.

  • Import local mailboxes from one account to other in the some computer

I need to import local mailboxes from one account to other in the some computer. I have tried copy/paste from one user/library to other, but mail went crazy with permission and even if I changed them manually now Mail can't save the passwords of the mailboxes, so I need enter each time Mail check the mail from the server. Any idea?

You need to let Mail do the Import, and not do this manually in the Finder.  However, if you force a reindexing things may get back to normal.  This assumes you are not talking about mailboxes in account folder, but rather On My Mailboxes?
To reindex all mailboxes force a reindexing by deleting the Envelope Index. With IMAP or Exchange account, forcing reindexing requires removing the account folder. See:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mail/4.0/en/14019.html

    Hi Kthxbai,
The cmdlet below can take all folders and data in each and export it into the specified PST file. Also note that things such as the dumpster now can and by default will be exported.

  • How do I recover emails from library/mail/POP (mailbox)

I need to recover emails that I've located in Library/mail/POP (mailbox).  I don't have Time Machine.  How do I move them from this location to my Inbox in Mac Mail?  I've tried creating a new mailbox and then tried dragging them into it (didn't work), tried copying and patsing (didn't work).  What should I do?

  • Can't import imap mailboxes

    It's a long story.
It started when I created two mail folders with the same name. This caused (I think) my mail program to disable its self- for what ever reason, it stopped receiving mail, would go offline whenever I tried to check my mail. I have several mailboxes set up in mail for work. I copied them to my desktop. we deleted my old account and folders, and created a new account. But mail will not import my imap mailboxes. It imports mbox mailboxes, but not imap. Can anyone help? It's mail version 1.3.11

I think our techs deleted all of those folders on the server, because of the problems we were having with the duplicates. My program would not connect with any of the folders, even after re-synching, so we thought we would delete them and re-import them.
BTW, I think it' s strange that any mail program will allow folders with duplicate names to be created. You would think you'd get a warning message, or that it just wouldn't be possible.
I believe there is a method for doing provided here
at the Discussions but I need to locate it.
If these IMAP account mailboxes were created and
stored on the server, you shouldn't need to re-import
anything after deleting an re-creating an IMAP
account. All server stored mailboxes should be made
available again in Mail and re-synchronized with the
    server.

  • How to import a mailbox from one user to another?

    Hi,
This is my situation on a work computer.
User 1 has a mailbox with work emails on it.
User 1 has just left the company.
I have created a user 2 for the new employee.
I want to import the User 1 emails over to user 2 so that user 2 can carry on with user 1's work and still have all the emails user 1 sent and received.
When I use the import mail function of mail I cannot import another users mail.
How can I do this? Surely this isn't an unusual situation?
Can anyone help? We are on pop 3
    Cheers

Assuming you can either login to the computer as user1, or as the admin on that computer, try copying the entire /Users/user1/Library/Mail folder to a USB flash drive, then login as user2, launch Mail and in Mail's menubar, go to File > Import Mailbox and follow the directions to navigate to the desired mail account data stored on the USB flash drive.

  • Problem - I can import from mailbox but not scan directly into PDF

    Hi guys,
    I hope you can help.
I have a Xerox 7132 printer/scanner/copier which has been set up and working on a small office network for a while now. Recently two users of four have found they can no longer scan directly into Acrobat Standard 9 from the application. (The other two are fine and can do everything as before. One is using Acrobat Standard 9 and the other Pro X).The two who have the problem are able to scan to email. They can also scan (from the scanner) to a mail box. However if they stay at their machines and using Acrobat choose to create PDF - scan etc. etc. and then choose to hide native menu, when they click scan an error pops up which simply says - 'PARAMETER'. Not Bad parameter or anything else, just the one word - PARAMETER.
I found a few bits and pieces on 'Bad Parameter' which state the fix as selecting the scanner. In this case the scanner is selected - 'Xerox Network Scanner'.
I can ping and find the scanner. I can print to it. I can scan into a mailbox. I just lost functionality to print direct from the Acrobat Standard 9. I have to first  scan the item into a mailbox, and then import it into Acrobat.
    I'm running XP Pro SP3.
Acrobat is version 9.5.2 and it is fully updated.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

I can't tell you why the 3G isn't recognized by FCP and I have no way to test whether it's normal since I don't have access to that model. But just to suggest that you use Image Capture to bring the clips  into your computer and then import those into FCP. An extra step, but FWIW, that's the workflow I use for the 4S – even though it appears in the import window.
As for your missing Desktop listing, I have experienced that and as I recall I trashed preferences and it reappeared. BTW, I assume shows properly in your Finder sidebar?

  • Importing archived mailbox?

I archived two mailboxes from Apple Mail and now I can't access them. I can see them as a single conjoined mbox file in Finder. But when I try to import this file back into Apple Mail, I can click on the import folder that gets created and that opens a subfolder with the name of the archived folder but when I click on that subfolder, nothing happens. Please help.

ok, that makes sense, thanks for the help.
Do you by any chance know whether changing Gmail from POP to something else will help with my issue? how would I go about doing this and setting it up in my mail?
you can delete your current gmail account in Mail and recreate it. it will be recreated as IMAP. an imap account syncs everything with the server at all times. so you'll get in Mail exactly what you get in webmail gmail. that might mean a large download of course.
to alleviate that you can choose an option not to download attachments or only download messages that you've read. this is done in Mail preferences->accounts->advanced.
note that when you delete the old gmail account all the mailboxes for it on your computer and everything in them will be immediately deleted. so if there is something in your gmail inbox which is not in webmail gmail you should copy it to a local mailbox in "on my mac" section before deleting the account.

  • Importing Mail Mailboxes after a clean installation of Lion

I have had to re-install Lion (10.7.3, a clean installation). I have now been able to download messages still on my Internet provider's server, but how can I transfer them from my bootable cloned copy of my entire system, made just before re-installing the OS?
Mail offers to export messages (Mailbox >Export Mailbox). Could I boot on my cloned backup, export each mailbox, then in some way import them into the new Lion system?
But my Mail's File > Import Mailboxes is greyed out, and Apple's Help ("Import mailboxes" doesn't work).
Or could I drag the old mailboxes from the backup, but where are they?
I have a Time Machine backup which will have the messages, but again, where? I mounted TM, tried Mail > Import Mailboxes and selected the Mail application. TM whirred for ages and I eventually had to force quit mail after the SBOD appeared.
    Hoping for some ideas.

If you are installing from the DMG, I think so.   However, once installed to a hard drive or flash drive as a bare bones bootable 10.7 system the only time an internet connection would be needed is if you have Software Update setup in System Preferences, or Quicktime setup in System Preferences for updating your software.
You can setup a clone software on that bootable drive such as Superduper or Carbon Copy Cloner that can get you off the ground and running to verify that you aren't having any hardware issues with your system, instead of trying to eliminate software issues on a fully loaded 10.7 system.
Of course you'd want two clone backups of your fully loaded system before you tried that.  A Time Machine backup of your fully loaded system can work too, as long as it is to a hard drive that is at least twice as large as the original.
The only reason to keep the DMG version of it around is if you lack the space or funds for space to have a fully installed backup.  But then you are depending on the internet anyway!

  • Problems importing Thunderbird Mailbox into Mail

I am having problems importing my Thunderbird mailboxes into Mail. I won't go into the many problems and issues I had to solve (but there were many) but would ask if anyone can help me solve the one I still have.
In Mail I used the Import Mailboxes command, located the Thunderbird profile in my Home directory and imported it. I may have done this some time ago, but in any case, when I decided to start using Mail as my main email client this week I only had emails up until 6th November 2008.
Now I find it impossible to import the rest of my Thunderbird Inbox - only the sub-folders show up and Mail does not let me import the emails in the main inbox.
How can I get the remaining emails?

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
A folder window will open. Inside it there should be files with names as follows:
    Envelope Index
    ExternalUpdates.storedata
Move those files to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have longer names that begin as above. Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is damaged and that Mail has to quit. Click OK. Typically, the process takes a few minutes, but it may take hours if you have gigantic mailboxes. In that case, you may be able to speed things up by temporarily adding your home folder to the Privacy list in the Spotlight preference pane. Remove it when Mail has finished importing.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the files you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

  • Deployment: How to get rid of certificate import pop up in Reader XI

I want to deploy XI to our machines, but before I do so, I have to be sure, there are no pop ups confusing the users.
There is a pop up asking me to import older certificates and I can select between "Import" and "Default" - which is weird enough.
How do I suppress this pop up?
I searched in forum and got a hint about bAskBeforeInstalling but after I looked into this a little more, someone from Adobe Stuff said, this has nothing to do with the pop up.
Also I couldn't find an easy option in the customization wizard.
So: how do I suppress the pop up?

I'm on the same road, trying to get rid of the "Adobe Reader Security" popup.
bAskBeforeInstalling and bLoadSettingsFromURL couldn't hide the popup for me either.
What does work is to rename or copy the addressbook.acrodata file, located in %appdata%\Adobe\Acrobat\10.0\Security. But that has to be done for all userprofiles on all machine imho. (copy from the 10.0 to the 11.0 folder, before opening Reader XI).
The Files and Folder feature from the Customization wizard can do file operations, but probably not in all userprofiles?
We need to script this, because the Adobe Customization WIzard cannot help us out here right?
