How to start JSP
Hi Expects
I m new one for JSP.,how to start the jsp and what i am going to install in my system work with JSP
Thanks For Your Help
You feelin lucky, punk?
h1. The Ubiquitous Newbie Tips
* DON'T SHOUT!!!
* Homework dumps will be flamed mercilessly.
* Have a quick scan through the [Forum FAQ's|http://wikis.sun.com/display/SunForums/Forums.sun.com+FAQ].
h5. Ask a good question
* Don't forget to actually ask a question. No, The subject line doesn't count.
* Ask once
- Don't Crosspost!
- Two people answering one question independantly is a waste of there time.
* Don't even talk to me until you've:
(a) [googled it|http://www.google.com.au/] and
(b) looked it up in [Sun's Java Tutorials|http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/] and
(c) read the relevant section of the [API Docs|http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/index-files/index-1.html] and maybe even
(d) referred to the JLS (for "advanced" questions).
* [Good questions|http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html#intro] get better Answers. It's a fact. Trust me on this one.
- Lots of regulars on these forums simply don't read badly written questions. It's just too frustrating.
- FFS spare us the SMS and L33t speak! Pull your pants up, and get a hair cut!
- Often you discover your own mistake whilst forming a "Good question".
- Many of the regulars on these forums will bend over backwards to help with a "Good question",
especially to a nuggetty problem, because they're interested in the answer.
* Improve your chances of getting laid tonight by writing an SSCCE
- For you normal people, That's a: Short Self-Contained Compilable Example.
- Short is sweet: No-one wants to wade through 5000 lines to find your syntax errors!
- Often you discover your own mistake whilst writing an SSCCE.
- Solving your own problem yields a sense of accomplishment ;-)
h5. Formatting Matters
* Post your code between a pair of {code} tags
- That is: {code} ... your code goes here ... {code}
- This makes your code easier to read by preserving whitespace and highlighting java syntax.
- Copy&paste your source code directly from your editor. The forum editor basically sucks.
- The forums tabwidth is 8, as per [the java coding conventions|http://java.sun.com/docs/codeconv/].
- Indents will go jagged if your tabwidth!=8 and you've mixed tabs and spaces.
- Lines longer than 80 characters should be wrapped.
- Proper indentation illustrates program logic.
* Post your error messages between a pair of {code} tags:
- That is: {code} ... errors here ... {code}
- To make it easier for us to find, Mark the erroneous line(s) in your source-code. For example:
System.out.println("Your momma!); // <<<< ERROR 1
- Note that error messages are rendered basically useless if the code has been
modified AT ALL since the error message was produced.
- Here's [How to read a stacktrace|http://www.0xcafefeed.com/2004/06/of-thread-dumps-and-stack-traces/].
* The forum editor has a "Preview" pane. Use it.
- If you're new around here you'll probably find the "Rich Text" view is easier to use.
- WARNING: Swapping from "Plain Text" view to "Rich Text" scrambles the markup!
- To see how a posted "special effect" is done, click reply then click the quote button.
If you (the newbie) have covered these bases *you deserve, and can therefore expect, GOOD answers!*
h1. The pledge!
We the New To Java regulars do hereby pledge to refrain from flaming anybody, no matter how gumbyish the question, if the OP has demonstrably tried to cover these bases. The rest are fair game.

i am new to JSP .
please suggest how to start it.
i mean suggest me the sites and some good tutorials!
it will be a great help.
shantanuYou should really start by learning about servlets: it will help you understand what JSP's are all about.
You can download a free and excellent book from this website:
http://www.coreservlets.com
that covers both servlets and jsp's and even explains how to combine them. If you like it, the 2nd edition should be released in the spring.
After reading this book, I really suggest you look into JSTL (which the 2nd edition of the above book is going to cover). -
How to start/ restart the service in visual admin of SAP WAS 6.4?
I have installed the sneak preview version of SAP NetWeaver WAS 6.4 for default Database MaxDB. While developing a simple application to manage simple database table citymaster with 2 columns in jsp I am getting error as
Exception e com.sap.engine.services.jndi.persistent.exceptions.NameNotFoundException: Path to object does not exist at : java.comp.
Looking at visual admin tool for WAS 6.4 all the entries are in color blue but the last entry for 'DATASOURCE' is in RED color where 'java.comp/env/JDBC/DATASOURCE' is the jndi reference created for default DataSource.
Can any one help me that why the last entry is in RED and it that say that some error has occured or that entry is not started then how to start that?
Please help....Dear Daniel,
I have checked the Visual Administrator's JNDI Registry service entry in the ejbContexts node but there is no entry for the project which I have created.
It get deployed while I right click on the project's ear file and click on "Deploy on J2EE Engine". But same as before while checking in Browserthe site gives the same error...

How to add Jsp pages into existing portal (JDeveloper 9.0.4)
I am a jsp developer. I have to add a jsp page into existing portal. I am new to portal. Could anyone help me how to develop jsp using portal classes like PortletRenderRequest,ProviderSession and others.
Rigoberto, there should be no space between "-Xbootclasspath/p:" and the path "C:\oracle\infra\jdbc-10.1.0.4\ojdbc14.jar;C:\oracle\infra\jdbc-10.1.0.4\orai18n.jar"
By the way, one can always take a look at the logs at
$ORACLE_HOME/opmn/logs
especially those files whose names start with OC4J~ if there is some wrong with oc4j processes. Those files are the default oc4j stout and sterr. If oc4j can not init, there should be some kind of error message in them.
By the way, the following line may be deleted since no property file is specified.
<data id="oc4j-options" value="-properties"/>
Hope this helps. -
Dunno how to write JSP for login in......
Can someone help mi on write JSP coding for login in page?i dun really know how how to write JSP coding. i m now doing a project on Private Driving instructor portal where people can register as trainee or instructor.now i want to write the JSP coding on the login page part.... when instuctor login it will go to a instructor's main page n if a trainee login it will go to a trainee's main page.Can someone help mi on this??? it's very urgent n important for mi.Please help mi.
The easiest method I have found is to use a database to store the users details along with a flag indicating whether they are a trainee or an instructor. Upon logging in, you can use a bean to connect to the database and retrieve these values, then it is a simple matter of a jsp:forward tag to re-direct to the applicable page for trainee or instructor ...
e.g.
<pre>
***JSP PAGE ***
<%@page language="java" buffer="32kb" import="jspclasses.customer.*" errorPage="./error.jsp"%>
<jsp:useBean id="userBean" class="jspclasses.userInfoBean" scope="session"/>
* Get user and pass from form variables. (if passed)*
String user = request.getParameter("username");
String pass = request.getParameter("password");
* Retrieve fullname from session object. (if exists)*
fullname = (String)session.getValue("fullname");
String fwdPage = (String)session.getValue("fwdPage");
if (fullname==null) {
try {
* If no session has been established then attempt to create one using *
* the values passed through via form. If no values have been passed *
* through then variables will equal null as opposed to empty strings. *
* If null is evident, catch with NullPointerException. *
if (user.equals("") || pass.equals("")) {
fullname = "Not";
} else {
* Send values to method which validates users *
userBean.setUserInfo(user,pass);
* If an error was encountered within userBean the error *
* instance variable will != null. *
if (userBean.error == "") {
fullname = userBean.getFullname();
} else {
* Error was encountered so we set fullname to "Not", if *
* user was entered we re-display value and we instantiate *
* error variable to error value of userBean. *
fullname = "Not";
if (user!=null) uservalue=user;
error = userBean.error;
//out.println("Error is not null:<br>"+error+"<br>");
if (fullname!="Not") {
session = request.getSession(true);
session.putValue("fullname",fullname);
session.putValue("email",user);
session.putValue("user_id",userBean.getUserId());
session.putValue("user_type",userBean.getUserType());
session.putValue("sessionid",session.getId());
session.setMaxInactiveInterval(12000);
***END JSP***

How to compile jsp project on the plateform of Myeclipse and jboss
hi :-) this is not eclipse forum and not that sure about your problem but i'll try to answer :-)
i'm not sure how you create your war but there something wrong with your web.xml. kindly check it :-)
by d way, you can deploy your project in my-eclipse by
- right click on the project then select my-eclipse > Add and Remove Project Deployment's
- a new window will open and you can now configure how you deploy your project :-)
other alternative edit your jboss-service.xml then put something like this
<attribute name="URLs">deploy/, file:/D:/workspace/deploy</attribute>
(note, change the path according to your needs)

How to start working with iReport?
Hi All,
I'm just decide to use iReport for create report on Web but I don't know
How to start working with iReport , What program I should to install , How
to config any system files and set property .
Please advice me for work with IReport.
Thank youHi,
best hint to give is to start interviewing the product owner
http://ireport.sourceforge.net/cap3.html
Note that this is an open source project. Once you know which libraries you need, create a project in JDeveloper and double click on the project node. There is a Library node that allows you to import libraries to be used in your code.
Under Tools --> Manage Libraries you can configure JSP tag libraries if required

Urgent :How to Start the JavaBean in the start up of Tomcat Server
Hi All
1. I need JavaBeans to be Started at the time of Starting of the Tomcat Server where i am Storing some global Database values in Hashtable collection.
2. I dont want to show the full address like http://domain.com:8080/mypath/jsp/file.jsp
how to reduce the path http://domain.com/file.jsp .. i don't want to show the full path (port number, where i am storing the files
3. when the user type http://domain.com:8080/mypath/jsp/
it shows all the files under that directory.. i dont want to show the direcotry content to outside user .. how to restrict that.
thanks and regards
sreekanti want to start some jsp files at the start of the
tomcat server.
in some IDE i saw an option like "when start up"
i want that type of facility to my site for loading
global variables to all the web pages.1) JSPs have to be hit by something (some kindof request or dispatched request) so "starting jsp files" isn't quite the right mechanism.
2) The servlet spec provides 2 ways to load things on startup:
i) the <load-on-startup> tag in the web.xml for loading a particular servlet when the particular application loads
ii) The ServletContextListener interface and the corresponding <listener> tag in the web.xml. If your initializing is non-web specific (e.g. logging, starting up some kind of service, initializing global vars) than this is the better (and easier) route to take.
If you want to put these in the root context to happen when tomcat starts, then you'll have to make these modifications to tomcat's root web application (ROOT in the webapps folder).

ThanX.JSP's are for use with J2EE web applications. Ther is nothing stopping you from using them to do a regular web site however.
Here is a good, Free, online course for J2EE programming.
http://www.javapassion.com/j2ee/index.html
You should have familliarity with Java programming, HTML, and XML before you try to learn J2EE.

How to start workflow from a form?
Hi,
does anybody know, how to start a task after a form is submitted so the form data is passed to the task? I do not want to use "task start forms" since I want to use the same form definition for several purposes, and IdM does not allow me to use FormRef directive for the purpose.
Regards,
VladimirHI Santos.
I tried using the code : <Property name='postURL' value='user/processLaunch.jsp?id=Name_of_Workflow&op_flag=true&op_enduserId=$(enduserId)/>
But, it gave me an error : *"the reference to op_flag must end with the delimiter ';' "*

How to start oc4j instance in linux
I need the oracle report server to generate reports via the call from JSP.
But the response contains no data. But i think that the problem is that the oc4j instance is not started or the port number i am using in the URL is wrong.
I have two questions in my mind.
1) How to start the oc4j instance in linux
2) How to find the port number of the oracle report server. will it be stored in any files.
Pls provide some inputs on this query.Hello,
1) How to start the oc4j instance in linuxYou have not specified what version, so for standalone you can use the following command:
java -jar oc4j.jar
In 10.1.3 you need to use the oc4j.cmd/oc4j.sh file to start and stop OC4J.
If you are using the Application Server, then please use opmnctl start and stop the OC4J instance.
2) How to find the port number of the oracle report server. will it be stored in any files.
Please post this to the Reports forum.
Hope this helps.
