    what is to change to start tomcat from eclipse ???
    thanks

    i think the problem here is not your configuration so much as you already have a tomcat instance running. kill the first instance of tomcat and THEN try running from eclipse
    that said, if you truly want 2 instances of tomcat running, then i guess you'll have to change the port/config

  • Starting Tomcat using jsvc and jpda

    This is mostly just a message for anyone else looking for an answer to how to start Tomcat as a daemon with webapp remote debugging enabled.
    There is a real lack of information on how jsvc works when starting Tomcat under *nix.  I'm using Solaris 10, but this should be very similar on most Linux systems.
    There is a simple shell script called tomcat in /etc/init.d that starts the cat as a daemon. The change needed to use remote debugging from Eclipse is to enable jpda. This is done by setting the CATALINA_OPTS to include the jpda settings.
    Here's the modified line in the script:
    CATALINA_OPTS="-Xdebug -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,server=y,suspend=n,address=8000" If it worked you will see a line like "Listening for transport dt_socket at address: 8000" in your catalina.out. And now Eclipse can do remote debugging on port 8000.
    If you use the catalina.sh script to start the cat all you need is
    ./catalina.sh jpda startsince it defaults to these settings, that's where I found them.
    And of course there are dukes for suggestions.

    You can look at this URL
    http://www.java-tips.org/content/view/119/40/
    Response Code 404 is recieved when the path of servlet is not correct.
    Servlet classes needs to be placed in right directroy under tomcat server.
    URL typed in browser for accessing web applciation should be correct.
    Below URL explains the Runtime.exec method

  • Start tomcat with ovjm

    I have read all the help. I cannot figure out how to start tomcat such that it is using the ovjm. Please help.

    Hi All,
    I have changes the code to this:
    try
                Runtime rt = Runtime.getRuntime();
                Process proc = rt.exec("C:\\apache-tomcat-5.5.27\\bin\\startup.bat");
                InputStream stderr = proc.getErrorStream();
                InputStreamReader isr = new InputStreamReader(stderr);
                BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(isr);
                String line = null;
                System.out.println("<ERROR>");
                Thread.sleep(3000);
                System.exit(0);
                while ( (line = br.readLine()) != null)
                    System.out.println(line);
                System.out.println("</ERROR>");
                int exitVal = proc.waitFor();
                System.out.println("Process exitValue: " + exitVal);
            } catch (Throwable t)
                t.printStackTrace();
              }What is happening is that this piece of code is running perfectly on my machine but not on production server. JDK, Apache Tomcat are of same version (same replica) and also I am the administrator of both machines. On production server this does not throw any exception also. The path to startup.bat is same in both my machine and production. If I go on Start > Run > C:\apache-tomcat-5.5.27\bin\startup.bat it works but not with Java Application.
    Completely perplexed. Please help me out for possible solution.
    Thanks and Regards,

  • Error while starting Tomcat

    Hi,
    This may be a very basic question on tomcat server:
    What is the difference between creating a server (through the server View provided in eclipse) and using the three icons (at the top, just below the main menu) to start tomcat? I am new to Tomcat and am developing a web appln on tomcat.
    Another question that i have is,
    1. To which folder is my application deployed in Tomcat? For.e.g in Jboss the application as a war file can be fond in Jboss/server/default(or all)/deploy.
    2. In Jboss i have an option to publish the project, if i start Tomcat by the 3 icon buttons provided at the top, how can i ensure that my latest code is published to the tomcat server.
    3. What is this Tomcat manager screen for? How can i make use of this?
    Apart from these, i am getting a few exceptions when i start tomcat (both by the 3 buttons and by creating a server in the server view), here is the list (from the console);

    Hi.
    In order to run a web project, you have first to create a server in eclipse. Normally, this is done only the first time: you don't have to do it for every project and/or run.
    To run your project in aserver, you hava to select the project in the package explorer, pick the middle-button :(green circle, play without overlays), and select Run As -> Run on server.
    There, you should select a server if you already configured one or create a new one.
    Now, I think that the error you're getting has nothing to do with JSF. It's more likely a Spring configuration error. You may have declared a JNDI DataSource for example named "service-name" in applicationContext.xml but not in your Container (Tomcat, JBoss, etc.).
    Regards.

  • Do you know how to get Tomcat's JNDI example to work? - Help!

    With regards to the example for JNDI Datasource How-To found on Apache's site at http://jakarta.apache.org/tomcat/tomcat-4.1-doc/jndi-datasource-examples-howto.html
    I did the example as they explained to. But I keep getting "foo - not connected" when I run the "test.jsp" page on my Tomcat server.
    I made the following changes to the example
    1) don't know if this bears any importance, but I've changed wherever it says "TestDB" to "DBTest"
    2) I changed the portion in bold text in this parameter ---
    <parameter>
    <name>url</name>
    <value>jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/javatest?autoReconnect=true</value>
    </parameter>
    in the server.xml file to localhost:8080 as this is my port # for the tomcat server.
    3) they had the <value> attribute set to org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver so I changed it to the following...was this incorrect for me to do?
    <parameter>
    <name>driverClassName</name>
    <value>com.mysql.jdbc.Driver</value>
    </parameter>
    Questions and noticeable problems
    1) I'm getting a **END NESTED EXCEPTION ** Attempted reconnect 3 times. Giving up.

    2)What am I doing wrong? I really want to get this to work....I'm hoping to eventually learn and apply connection pooling to an application....
    3) is there something somewhere that I'm not "configuring" properly?

    This works. If it's not happening, that means you're doing something wrong. The good news is that you'll find it eventually if you keep digging.

  • How to Embbed Tomcat in Java Application

    Hi
    At the moment i have the basic setup of applicatoin like this
    first i run the file "Tomcat.bat" that start the tomcat server, in a specific directory and also the webservice is enabled.
    Secondly then i run the Program.java that uses the web service started in the first step.
    However, now i want to start the webservice (Apache Tomcat) from with in the Java Application. So that whenever, i need to i can start it. I also need the control over ports, so as to which port should the tomcat run on...
    So at the end of the my simple question is how to run tomcat from with in a java application. At the moment i can not use the Runtime.exec() since this is a real time application and using Runtime.exec() causes some problems over the locking of threads...
    Any Help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks for looking.

    i looked at the my catalina.sh script file and see that java runs "org.apache.catalina.startup.Bootstrap" class first so that i think by instaitating that class and preparing the parameters that needed will start the tomcats "org.apache.catalina.startup.Bootstrap" class and that class will load all the needed parts and start serving request.
    and how to change starting port ? i thought that you can generate the server.xml on fly and after creating that file you can start tomcat.
    these are my opinion but i think these are true,i have no time to try this if i can i will write here.or if somebody can try write here.

    No, I don't think that's the problem.
    In my opinion, the problem has something to do with
    fork="yes"in the start target.
    But how can I tell ant to first execute another target (the target that starts tomcat) and then execute for example the list target (which lists all the installed web apps)? When using the depends attribute it doesn't work:
    <target name="list" depends="start">
        <list url=.../>
    </target>When executing the list target, tomcat starts automatically (start target) but the list target is not executed after that :-(
    Any ideas?
    Best regards

    I just type ./startup.sh, but then I am using a later version.
    You would likely get better help at a Tomcat forum.
    And then, you need to post what your error is. "Facing a problem" isn't helpful.

  • Starting tomcat server after setting classpath for java

    Sorry if this is nothing to do with java, it is more to do with starting tomcat server.
    Tomcat server has been working totally fine, but when I wanted to compile a java servlet I wrote for it, I needed to run a BAT file called gojava in MS-DOS that had the classpath for java to work properly. I then attempted to run Tomcat, but just got 'bad command'. As long as I don't start up java by setting the classpath, tomcat will work, but as I need java to write servlets and then to test them without restarting my PC each time, how do I get tomcat to work?
    Thanks
    Hannah

    Sounds like your batch file is changing your path, not your classpath. If you're getting "Bad command or filename" when attempting to run Tomcat, it can't find the executable. Check out the .bat file and see what it's doing (maybe even post it here for further clarity). If it's changing your path at all, make sure it includes a %path% to indicate that it simply wants to append items to the path, not overwrite it completely. Sorry if i'm way off base with my suggestions, but it sounds like that's where the problem's going to be, especially if rebooting resolves the problem.

  • How to redirect tomcat's (not in jwsdp) output  to catalina.out

    how to redirect tomcat's (not in jwsdp) output from consolee to catalina.out

    Finally we solve this.
    In startup.bat we've changed string
    call "%EXECUTABLE%" start %CMD_LINE_ARGS%
    to
    call "%EXECUTABLE%" run %CMD_LINE_ARGS% 1>..\logs\catalina.out 2>..\logs\catalina-err.out
    (the above in one string)
    May be someone know something better?
