How to store/view items in a server folder

I have been searching for a way to store/view items in a folder on my sharepoint server. Basically at work we have sharepoint setup and one of the pages shows documents that reside in a folder on the sharepoint server. If I add a file to that
folder and refresh the web page it will show up in sharepoint. That is what I am trying to accomplish in my personal sharepoint installation. I have a folder...(let's call it C:\Media) which contains some small home videos. I simply want
to point sharepoint to that folder and display it's contents for use. As it stands now it appears the files are stored in a database because I am unable to track them down. I have searched for a solution online to no avail and obviously it is possible
because it is functions perfectly on my company's sharepoint.

SharePoint stores all files in the Content Database, or Remote Blob Storage (but RBS is less common). You must use SharePoint APIs in order to access files in the Content Database or RBS (accessing them directly places your database in an unsupported state).
What your company may be doing is using a Content Viewer Web Part to display the location of a file share within a SharePoint page. This isn't a very flexible solution, so there are 3rd parties that have filled this space, proxy'ing requests between SharePoint
and a back end file share, e.g. http://www.avepoint.com/sharepoint-connector-docave/.

You setup a field as BLOB and store the binary of the picture there. Depending on the database it can be called differently as you can see in the link, in SQL server there's even a Image datatype.

How To Fix View Options for a Specific Folder

I have several folders that I prefer to view in specific ways: Applications in list view, alphabetically, with large icons; another also in list view, by most recently modified, also large icons; another in icon view, with icons set to a specific size, etc.
Obviously, I know how to use View Options to set the view as I'd like for each specific folder. And I've set these folders with the "Always Open in..." button.
Unfortunately, after closing that folder, the next time I come back to it, it's reverted to different View settings: a folder that I'd set to view by most recently modified is back to alphabetical, or the icon size has changed, etc.
Am I missing something? I had noticed similar behavior under 10.6, but I attributed it then to the fact that my drive was dying, and I was getting all sorts of wonky behavior.

This is my first post to this community. I would not be surprised if the answer to my question can be found in a simple search or tutorial. However, I assure you that I have been searching, clicking, reading and even attempting to install new software all morning and have only succeeded in further confusing myself.
I'm running Adobe Acrobat X Standard on a Windows 7 machine. My job includes the management of legal documents of conveyance. All conveyance instruments have a set of unique identifiers such as the county where the deed was filed, the book and page where it is filed, the type of instrument, and the date it was filed. Historically I have tried to jam all of this information and more into the file name of a pdf. For example: "105_Bk109-Pg188_Assignment_05251950" is the name of a file that I have open right now that indicates an Assignment filed in Crockett County, Texas (code 105) at Book 109, Page 188 and recorded on May 25, 1950. I typically work in folders that contain around a hundred similar documents with all of the fields I have described varying. My objective is to begin moving this information into the metadata or properties of the individual PDFs AND then be able to view those fields in Windows Explorer from the folder level. As I understand it, this is not possible. When I began searching for an alternative solution, I found several references to Adobe Bridge and attempted to install it. The installation failed, but more importantly I am not interested in becoming a CC user as I don't feel like it is necessary for what I am trying to accomplish. I'm not working with HD photos or video.
So my question is this: Is there a way (that doesn't involve purchasing and learning Adobe Bridge) that I can modify the attributes/metadata/properties of a pdf, and then see the modifications in a folder viewer without opening the pdf? Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks for responding. I suspected that my understanding of metadata was incomplete or inaccurate. As I understand it, the metadata for any given pdf can be found by first opening the pdf; clicking File -> Properties, which opens a dialog box titled "Document Properties". The first tab in the dialog box is "Description" and includes the fields File, Title, Author, Subject, and Keywords. The values for these fields are what I'm referring to as metadata. Additionally, from the Document Properties dialog box, clicking on the "Custom" tab allows you to create custom properties and values, which I also considered to be metadata. I have manipulated these fields for a certain pdf as shown in the two screenshots below:
After making this changes, I saved the pdf and closed it. I then navigated to the folder where the pdf is stored using Windows Explorer. As you can in the following screen shot of WE, that the pdf I have made the changes to is the first in the list. The Windows Explorer columns include: Title, Pages, Author, and Subjects, but their values are all blank and fail to show what I have assigned them in the PDF properties (or what I thought was metadata). As for my custom fields, Windows does not give me any kind of option to display those. Windows inability to display something as simple as the number of pages in the PDF is completely baffling to me.
My objective is to be able to modify the standard document properties of a PDF with usable information, those being Title , Author, Subject, and Keywords. I would also like to be able to create the custom properties with additional useful information. I would then like to be able to use a file manager, to view the contents of a folder full of pdfs, similar to the screenshot above, and see the properties and custom field values that i have assigned to the pdfs in columns of the list of pdfs. Windows Explorer is the only file manager I have ever used. It's possible that the solution to my problem could be as simple as changing file managers. It may be that what I'm after is not possible at. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

No problem, just concatenate all your fields into one field separated by a comma. Then transfer that field only.
data: your_dataset type localfile default '/usr/sap/TST/SYS/Data1.txt'.
data: output type string.
open dataset your_dataset for output in text mode.
loop at itab.
concatenate itab-fld1
              itab-fld2
              itab-fld3
                   into output separated by ','.
transfer output to your_dataset.
endloop.
close dataset your_dataset.

How to store/display images with SQL Server 2000

Hi everybody, I'm totally new to ColdFusion, and creating a
sample project, where a user would enter in a person's info and
upload a picture of that person. I trying to get my app to save
that image to SQL Server database and then to display that pic.
Currently, it "seems" that I'm able to save to SQL server (my table
saves user info but all values in my photo column says
<binary>-I don't know if that is correct), but I can't seem
to get image and display it on my cf page. I have pasted portions
of my code below.
I've been hammering away at this but no luck, so Any comments

Note: In my ColdFusion admin, I checked "Enable ... BLOB's"

Regarding doing the actual saving, here are some other things
to consider:
* a max on the image's file size
* check if it really is an image
* don't use nameconflict="overwrite". consider
nameconflict="MAKEUNIQUE"
* delete uploaded image on file system after insert into db
Also, on the cfm page that returns an image, try putting the
cfcontent tag and the cfoutput tag on one line.

I m using Applet-Servlet Communication. When my applet calls Servlet it makes database connection and retruns Object to Applet. Can ne body pls. tell me instead of hardcoding database userid and password in servlet, what is a most convinient way to a pass these parameters to servlet. Properties files are one of the way, but is it secure and suaitable on the Web? Is there ne other funda for this?

No, I don't think the use of properties file is a suitable
approach.
You can use JDBC-realm .Accept the username & password from user,pass these values to the servlet and then validate this against the names stored in the database.

Need help viewing items in Lion Finder folder.

Hello! I just recently migrated to a Mac with Lion and have a question regarding viewing files in the Finder window. I currently like sorting my folders using "Kind" then sorting by "Name", which works great for me except one problem. How do you have the Finder window "Show All" by default instead of having to click on the "Show All" everytime? See my example folder in the pic.
Any help for a Mac noob would be greatly appreciated! Thank You in advance!

Adobe removed the previous choice in preferences, without asking customers.
Many of us who used earlier versions don’t like it.
If you feel the product is not what you reasonably expected, request a full refund or ask your credit card company for a refund and chargeback.
