How to totally close a running LabVIEW Application

Hello NG,
I have a little problem closing a running LabVIEW Application. For
example I run 2 Applications in parallel. I would like to totally close
one of them. If I use the "Exit LabVIEW" VI both Applications will be
shut down. If I only stop the Application, the not running Front Panel
is still available. How could I close an Application like a normal
Windows program?
Thanks a lot for your help.
Best regards,
Michael

If you build both applications into seperate executables, I believe Exit LabVIEW should only affect the one where it was run.
If these are 2 VIs running inside LV, you can wire F into FP.Open property of the top level VI. Once the FP of the top level VI closes, the entire hierarchy will be closed as well. This also works with the RTE.
To do this, you need to create a property node (Application Control palette), right click it and select the VI class and select the property.
The other option (basically the same thing) is to use the invoke node with the Close FP method.
Try to take over the world!

It's an often misunderstood topic.  The programs that are "running" (and where they are actually using data and battery) can be found in "Notifications" and "Background App Refresh."

  • How do I close a running .vit using the X button without getting the save VI dialog?

One solution is to save the running .vit instance to disk before the operator is able to use the X button to close the running VI. This is awkward as I don't need another numerically named copy of the .vit on my disk. Adding a "Quit" button to my .vit front panel is also an option but it would be nice to be able to use the X button instead.

If you have LabVIEW 6.1 or higher, you can use the Event Structure to capture the click of the 'X' button, and choose to ignore it and close the panel.
Configure an Event Case to "This VI..Panel Close?" filter event. (note the question mark) On the right side of this new case, there will be a boolean terminal that will let you discard the event. Open a reference to the VIT and pass this out of the main loop, and use a property node on this reference to close the front panel, then close the reference.
It will go away when you hit the 'X' without prompting to save.
A simple example is attached. You'll either need ot make a change or copy everything to a new VI and run that to prove it doesn't prompt for saving changes. This is in 7.1, Let me know if you need it in an earlier version.

Using the Abort button to stop your VI is like using a tree to stop your car. It works, but there may be consequences.

  • How do I close all running applications before launching my java app?

Does anyone know of anyway I can code to close all running applications, even if I don't know the process names to begin with?
Is there open source code than anyone has written to do this. Other applications interfere with my app and I need to terminate all running apps/processes before launching my app. Please advise.

I see we aren't all on the same wavelength here, let
    me rephrase:
How can I write JAVA code that will terminate all
running applications so as not to interfere with the
security of my application's content, as it is
extremely sensitive content and I need to know that
no applications are running which could defeat it.
I would like my application to terminate all running
applications, is this possible to write in java code.Do you consider all the processes running in the background (launched by the OS) as part of "all running applications"? Do you not consider the OS itself as part of it as well? You're really barking up the wrong tree. But go ahead, I know you won't be convinced regarding the wonkiness of your thinking.

  • How do you close apps running in the background in iOS 7?

Do you know how to close apps in iOS 7?  In iOS 6 you held your finger on them and when the minus sign came up you closed them that way.  This saved the battery.  Now there is no way to close the apps once you close them and it runs the battery down rapidly.

To close out apps, simply double click the home button and instead of holding down the app icons and clicking on the X mark in older versions, you have to swipe the app window up and away.
Also you can save on battery by turning of background app refresh from settings, as explained in this article .... http://nyacomputing.com/how-to-close-apps-in-ios-7-and-save-on-battery/

  • How do i install and run labview from a local network?

How do I install a single copy of labview on our local network. Are their any special licences needed for this?

I assume you would need a license for each computer which will be using LabVIEW to develop code. Their may be a network license, but I am not familiar with one. I would contact NI just to be sure (612.683.0100). It's better that you tell them than they figure it out!

  • HT4623 How do I close programs running in the background to speed up my phone?

Downloads are very slow.  How do I speed up?

You can close apps via the taskbar : double-click the home button to open the taskbar at the bottom of the iPhone's screen, then press and hold any of the apps on that taskbar for a second or two until they start to shake, tap the '-' to close them, and then click the home button to close the taskbar. But a lot of the apps that appear there won't be active, they will just be 'recently used'.
In terms of speeding up downloads, what connection do you have ? If you are downloading via cellular and you are somewhere where you can only get a 2G connection then downloads will be slower than if you were in an area with better reception or if you were connected to a decent wifi network.

  • PC slows down after a while when running labview application

I have a labview 6 application which is monitoring some data on a feildpoint module, after a while this application slows down and there is a lot of activity on the hard disk drive, also the cpu monitor says 100% activity.
Is it something to do with the PC or is it some other reason?
    Thanks
    Allan

    Allan,
My first guess is "Who know's" without seing your VI and probing around; but, to get you started, run your VI and use Labview's tool "Profile VIs..." [Tools... Advanced...] and monitor memory and timing statistics. You may find a constantly increasing use of memory or a VI that consumes an unusual amound of processor time. Then you can troubleshoot from there.
    Good luck with it, Doug
