How to trace the value passed by select list

Hi,
Is it possible to know what value is passed by the select list.
eg:
:p1_testid -- is the select list name .
if select list contains 3 values ... value1, value2, and value3. and I select value2 from the select list.
I want to confirm it that the value I selected is the same value passed to the query.
- select * from Test where Testid=:p1_testid;
How to trace the value of :p1_testid before query execution.

check your session state to see what value the select list has..
From developer tools at bottom of running page, select session, then look for the value associated with your select list..

You can use a select list with submit and create a branch to the page you want to go to.

How to default a value in a select list

Hi
I have an item on the page which is displayed as a select list.
The select list has an lov that returns 3 values as follows:
ACAD1M
ACAD2H
ACAD3T
the sql for this lov is as follows:
select CAL_TYPE d,cal_type r
from igs_ca_type
where s_cal_cat='ACADEMIC'
It needs to return the values in the order as shown above, however if the user does not select anything from the select list, I want it to default to the value in the middle of the list(ACAD2H)
I tried using default on the item but I could not get this to work.
Could someone explain how I can get the select list in HTMLDB to default to the value that I want regardless of which position it appears in the select list it always seems to default to the value at the top of the list.

A default value for a select list must be set to a legitimate returned value from the select list LOV query.
The default value should be set in the item "Default" section. In the "Default Value" field you should enter your query – in a form of a PL/SQL Function Body – and set the "Default Value Type" field accordingly.
The following is an example of code I'm using to set the default value of a select list to be the first displayed option (set by the user, and recorded in the dispord column):

Dynamically change the value of a select list in form based on a table

I am using a form based on a table. I want to display two fields as select lists instead of text boxes and when a value
in a select list is selected, the corresponding values will be listed in the next select list. For example if department
value is selected in a select list the employees in that department will be listed in the employee select list. I saw a

Could you tell me how I could use your example with multiple Application Items?
My page has 3 cascading select lists. The second is dependent on the first and the third is dependent on both the first and second. I thought I would just need to add the second application item as a get, but not sure what the syntax would be. I have troubleshooted to the point where my select list refreshes when I have one in the javascript...just not sure how to add the additional one?

How to get the text boxes and select lists dynamically?

Hi,
I have a requirement such that I need to create the text boxes and select lists depending on the user input at the run time. It means that if the user requires four text boxes/select lists then I need to have 4 such thing. If the user need 6 then I need to have 6.
The design may be such that initially only one text box/select list will be available when the page launches. Then as ad when the user asks for more those will be available to the user accordingly.

You can use Ajax to call textboxes and select list based on what user enters.
Otherwise make those items conditional and based on what user enters you can display textbox or select list.
You can call Single Textbox and Select List using Ajax for any number of conditions.

Report With Multiple Radio Button ,How to reset the values of when selected

Reaching out to the experts here. I have a report which i created a radio group which saves the value rownum when the radio buton is selected to a hidden item based on an on click event. There are currently 3 radio button , i need to be able to "reset" the value of the other items when more than of the button are selected .I.E. There are 3 buttons, user clicks button one , but then decides they need to click button two , then realizes they really wanted to perform button 3 , I want to be able to "reset" the value of the 1st two hidden items so the only value populated is the 3rd hidden item. I am new to working with these features and scenarios so any and help would be appreciated.

How to get the value of multi-select in the Dashboard Prompt

I have a multi-select prompt in the Dashboard Prompt, what I want is, how do I know that user has choose one value,
for examle, for some reasons, if user didn't choose any value, then I will set one column in answer as "customer office" , if user choose one value, then the column in answer will be "customer name".

first define the presentation variable for the required column prompt. ex: PV
Then in report level set the filter for that column = @{PV}{customer office}. here u have to give default value as "customer office", so by default the report in dashboard will show customer office even though the user does not select any value from dashboard prompt.

How do you get the value of a selected list item?

I have a drop-down list that the user can choose from. How do I get the value of what they selected? I thought I could do this by using the NAME_IN function, but I'm getting FRM-40105 Unable to resolve reference to item X. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

You can use an WHEN-LIST-CHANGED trigger, attached to the list-item itself. And, in this trigger, you can use the name of the item to refer its value.
For example:

You please try the following steps:
1. Say the InfoObject is 0EMPLOYEE against which you have created the variable, which user is trying to select value against, when they execute the report.
2. Goto RSA1-> InfoObject tab-> Select InfoObject 0EMPLOYEE.
3. Selcet the following options:
Query Execution Filter Val. Selectn - 'Only Posted Value for Navigation'
Filter Value Repr. At Query Exec. - 'Selector Box Without Values'
Please let me know if there is any more issue. Feel free to raise further concern

I have to see to that the rows present in Table A in oracle , should be same as rows in Table B in sybase
If not , we have to update , insert and delete the row which is not present in Table A in oracle in Table B in sybase.
In the table example i gave , In the first row of Table B in Sybase , the Text is different from that of Description in Table A for that Sno "1"
So we should update the description.
Row 4 has Sno "4" which is not their in table A , so delete that row from table A.
And In table A , Sno "3" row exists , so we should insert that record in table B.
I know how to query the tables , and get the rows into Result Set ..after that how can i compare and take the steps to update , insert and delete?

i am using a table component.I am populating it from the database.i used static text to display the data .i have a edit button in the last column. when i click on it that particular rows data should be shown in a text field in that row itself,so that i should be able to edit it and then if i save it it that row should change to statictext with the updated data.

If you are using ADFBC, the easiest way is to drop the attribute(Say Name) from the data control palette as outputText component and add partialTriggers property of it to point to table id(to refresh the outputText whenever the row is selected in table)

However, when I select a value from the Select list and click on the button, the page item is still submitting the earlier value, it is not getting updated with the value I selected in the select list. Can someone tell me how I can get the page item value to be updated with the value I selected from the choice list? I tried calling a javascript function from the element attribute of this select list onchange="javascript:setValue(this);") and was trying to set the value of another hidden page item with the value of this select list but then the function is not getting called as well. My function code is something like

How do you know this? Have you used Debug mode to track what is happening when the button is pressed? This will show any changes to item values in session state during page submit and page show processing.

This should happen automatically with a select list item, if the button is correctly defined to perform a page submit. It will not happen if the button performs a redirect. What action is defined to occur when the button is pressed?

As detailed above, this should be completely unnecessary, however as an aside, html_GetElement is a very out of date method of accessing an item. What version of APEX are you using? (Always specify which version you're using when you ask a question, to allow us to determine the most appropriate solution to the problem.)
