How to transform pc files to hfs filesystem?

Hi,
I have files created on Windows OS platform.  Attempted to
chown root:wheel myFileDirectory
though it did not produce error, it does not change owner and group.  John D. kindly advised me that it's because of different file system, Mac uses HFS (I didn't know since I'm new to Mac).  So, now the question is how I transform files created in Windows environment into HFS?
Thanks.

Under Devices,
I have Macintosh HD and iDisk.  So, I would guess the HD is the boot volume.   I think I've dragged some files from flash dirve (created in Windows OS env) to certain Folder on this HD, and this Folder was a folder created by the previous version of my software and it was / is working fine (local web app).
Hmm, what could result the above problem?  Still file system issue?  What do I do now?
Many thanks.

  • How to list "unowned" files on my filesystem

I'd like to get a listing of all files on my filesystem that are not owned by any currently-installed packages.  I need to specify which directories to exclude, such as /var, /proc, /dev, /tmp, etc.  Is there a tool/utility to do that?  I could write a script for it, but don't want to reinvent the wheel if there's already a way to see that information.

    that's cool.
maybe you could also implement a `--find-corrupted-pkgs` that checks the checksums of all files in packages.

  • How do I delete files from HFS+-formatted network drive

    Relevant system components:
Very recent iterations of a MBA and MBP both running 10.7.4
Cisco Linksys e4200v1 wireless router, FWver1.0.04
Seagate 1.5 Tb FA GoFlex external drive
Full-size, single partition reformated by DiskUtility to HFS+ (Mac extended volume, Journaled)
Connected by USB to storage port on e4200
Storage set to share at root with either Anon r&w access or admin level user acct.
    Demonstrated read and write access
I have set up an external drive as above.  The drive is to be used to archive large amounts of uncommonly used data (not a backup) and then is backed up to crashplan+ off-site.
The drive came formatted as FAT32 (I believe.) As we still have one PC and all individual files are smaller than 4Gb, I set up the archive drive as formated out of the box.
Data was written to the drive without issue, backed upi off-site with no issue and accessed a couple times.
The issue came when recently upgraded some itunes albums.  These albums had been previously removed from the library and from the computer and stored in the archive drive.  These albums were upgraded and redownloaded from apple generating a copy of the album data, but in a superior format (no-drm, greater sampling rate.) This made the archived files obsolete and generated a risk of mixing versions.  I decided to delete the obsolete files from archive.
When I attempted to do this by selecting, right-clicking and chosing "move to trash"  I was prompted that this was not a "undo-able" action, suggesting that while I was selecting "move to trash," the action would not generate a copy in the trash.  Next I was prompted to enter my user and PW.  The only user and PW combo that would not cause the dialog to "shake it's head" at me, was my computer user-specific password.  The network or drive associated user and PW combos would not take.  When I entered my computer user and PW, it was accepted, but a dialog labeled "Trash" popped up with small font, reading "The operation can't be completed because you don't have permission to access some of the items."
Trying to delete only a random selection of one or two files would not work.
I checked the drive permissions and was only able to see "You have custom access."  This is not modifiable.  I attempted to alter my access permissions from the router, but made no headway.  Again, I could read and write, as the router setup suggests, but not "modify," to use a windows term.
Assuming, with little data, that the FAT32 was perhaps at issue I unmounted the network drive, connected it by USB and reformated as above.  After formating, I tried the same procedure with no change in outcome.
I am nearly 100% sure that when the drive was connected by usb, I could delete to my heart's content, but not when it is connected via network.
I will note that the drive is accessed by first connecting to the router, which the mac sees as a "PC."  This access can be controlled, but can be set to anon.
When I connect I see two identically named folders.  One is a sharepoint folder and one is a volume.  They access the same data. Deleting thorugh either route has identical outcomes.
As I am a complete newb to Macs, I am really not sure where I should even begin to look for access.  Should I bind my router access to my user acct?  Is this even doable? Can I reset permissions to this folder through the terminal?  Is this really a Cisco or Seagate issue?
Any knowledgable advice is appretiated.  I can do the speculating.

    Ugh.
This is not an Apple issue.  This is a permission issue associated directly with the router.  No settings on the mac need to be touched to solve this issue.
In this specific case, it was required that I enter into the router storage settings (192.168.0.1,) disable all anon access, save settings, log in as admin (or just r&w) PRIOR TO deleting the files, then delete the files.
I was trying to enter login info AFTER trying to delete the files. Obviously, that didn't work.
Anyway.  I hope this might help someone.

  • How to transfer NTFS files to HFS+ hard drive?

I have multiple large video files on NTFS formatted harddrive so read only.  I have time capsule backup, and two external hard
drives (1) older WD TB NTFS with 500 GB of video files almost all larger than 4 GB.  Have new Seagate 3 TB hard drive.  I want to have
both external hard drives formatted HFS+.  Set up Seagate with 1.5 TB HFS+ and 1.5 TB FAT 32 with idea to copy over all the
video from NTFS to the FAT 32, then copy them over to HFS+, downsize the 1.5 FAT 32 to zero, and then reformat the WD  to HFS+
and viola, all would be in HFS+ and life would be good.  Did not know about the 4 GB transfer file limit in FAT 32.  Have spent a great deal
of time reading about solutions but everything seems to be built around making NTFS read and write but I want to get everything into
HFS+.  I have looked at software solutions (Paragon) for example but it does not seem to be set up to a simply one-way transfer of files from
NTFS to HFS+.  I also explored idea of cutting up video files some of which are quite large due to original film but that is both very cumbersome
and also worries me about trying to pull everything back together after transfer.
System Macbook Pro 2011, 8GB---thanks in advance for any suggestions and sorry for such a long posting.
    Sandy

I didn't spend hours looking, but video pros on Adobe's forums can't really think of a use for the small index or .scn files. A .avi file is the combined video and audio. It will play on its own.
To test, copy any .avi file from the NTFS drive to an HFS+ drive and double click to play it. I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't work.

  • How to copy DB files from UNIX filesystem to ASM in RMAN?

    Hi,
I have a cold backup copied from a RAC ASM by using RMAN to UNIX filesystem. I made it like this:
    RMAN> run
    copy datafile 1 to '/backup/PDAMLPF2/offline/system.306.715096785';
    copy datafile 2 to '/backup/PDAMLPF2/offline/undotbs1.260.715096755';
Now, I need to restore (or copy) this cold backup into another RAC ASM system to create a DB. How can I do the copy back?
    Thanks for advise!

If you are using 11.1 or above you can use asmcmd cp command otherwise use dbms_file_transfer package. But keep in mind that since you are not using RMAN in any of those stages you will need to modify controlfile anyhow.

"prproj" file was  changed in "prv"  file.
Those are two different things.  The first is the Premiere Pro project file, the second is a Premiere Pro generated Preview file for use inside a given project.

  • How to get PDF file that has been transformed into docx into my filing system so I can work on it???

How can I get the PDF file that was transformed into a docx file into my filing system to be able to work on it and translate it as the customer requested?

    THanks for your reply.
Well what happens is I bought the program. It gives you a button to click,
you log in and then a box opens up asking you to select the file, I go into
my filing system (in Windows explorer) select the file, and the program
converts it into docx, my choice.  I can read it there and when I try to
copy and paste it into my file where the PDF version is saved, it behaves
like an "image", and I can't save it.... or it saves likes something you
save on the internet, so you have to go into internet every time you want
to see it.    I have also pressed any amount of buttons to see if it will
give me the option to save it any other way, and have found nothing.  What
I would need is a file in docx.format that I can edit.  People send me
things in PDF and sometimes I can just copy it off the PDF file and save it
in WOrd, then I can translate it for them. But sometimes the PDF file
doesnt allow me to copy the text.  If it is in image form, I cannot work on
it.  It means printing it, so I can copy type it into Word... and for that
I certainly wouldnt need to buy a program.  Its just double the work and
ends up that the job takes twice as long.!
Sorry  if I am a bit dumb with informatics.  But I simply could not find
any way whatever to  copy the PDF file that was transformed into Word, in a
format that would enable me to edit it.
    Kindest regards,

  • How to write files to the filesystem with portal/plsql

    Hi,
is there a way to write files to the filesystem via Portal?
Or can i call an external programm (perl, php) to do so, while portal writes further information to database?
    thank you for the help
    Ralf Schmitt

    Hi Ralf,
my primary task is to publish download-links to files stored ... somewhere as a linklist. I tried to store and download files to/from the database but i cant get it to run. Upload works, download doesn't.
(i'm not talking about a single form-query-download-link! I need a report-like linklist)If you want to do this you'll have to write some code but sure it's possible - i did it myself.
The links in the link list in your report should call a stored function retrieving the files from Wwdoc_document or whatever is the document table defined in your DAD. Simply select BLOB_CONTENT into a BLOB variable from the table, provided you know what file to read :-) The function would then read the BLOBs and send them to the client's browser via DBMS_LOB - it's poor design but it works just as smooth as it could and it's really performing. This would simply display the file into your browser or prompt for file save location, depending on what browser you are using and its client settings.
I guess this is not so clear, if you want some more details feel free to e-mail me at [email protected]
Another way would be to use wpg_docload to both download and upload files to/from the DB.
Now i try to figure out if it is possible to store the files to the filesystem and write only additional info like description or path into db.Again, yes, it is. I can't recall exactly how I did it ^_^ but the trick is to create a virtual directory in the DB - pointing at a physical directory on the file system you want to write to, and you have to have full read-write permission on the directory itself, and its path must be included in the utl_file_dir database parameter. Then you use both COM Automation or UTL_FILE to write files.
would it be possible to let a portal-form write info to the db and then pass the file to a php-script?
    regards,
    Ralf Schmitt

    Hi Tino,
sapmsg.ini is opend by LIBRFC32 - not NCo directly.  You can look into RFC SDK documentation for details (this is install with SAPGUI).
you can try to resolve the problem by setting the following environment variable:
    RFC_LOGON_INI_PATH=<PATH_TO_SAPGUI_DIRECTORY>

  • How to copy the ASM files on host filesystem.

    Hello All,
There is a question come up in my mind that can we perform the copy/delete/move of ASM files to the host filesystem while the ASM instance is down.
For instance... To copy the file ASM file through AMCMD utility when the ASM instance is running.
    ASMCMD> cp spfilenode.ora /u01
    copying +DATA/NODE/spfilenode.ora -> /u01/spfilenode.ora
Now my question is, Can I copy/delete/move that file on OS filesystems when the ASM instance is down.
    regards,
    rohit

    Hi,
1- Copy from ASM to FileSystem using cp command.
2- Copy from ASM to FileSystem using DBMS_FILE_TRANSFER.
    1) In the first method, when I copy one file, I took more than 1 minute, so the following script would take me more than 1 days (I guess so).
    #!/bin/ksh
    # This script copies files from FRA on ASM to local disk
    ORACLE_SID=+ASM2
    ASMLS=/vasgatedb/app/vsgbkp/asm_ls.txt ##{ASM files list}
    BKP=+data/vsgdb/vsgbkp/`date +%Y_%m_%d` ##{source location of files}
    LOCALBACKUPDIR=/vasgatedb/app/vsgbkp  ##{destination filesystem}
    LOG=/vasgatedb/app/vsgbkp/asm_log.txt ##{log file}
    # Get the list of files
    $ORACLE_HOME/bin/asmcmd > $ASMLS <<EOF
    ls $BKP
    exit
    EOF
    # Clean the list by removing "ASMCMD>"
    sed -i 's/ASMCMD> //g' $ASMLS
    ##cat $ASMLS
    echo `date` > $LOG
    # Copy files one by one
    for FILENAME in `cat $ASMLS`
    do
    if [[ ! -f $LOCALBACKUPDIR/${FILENAME} ]]
    then
    $ORACLE_HOME/bin/asmcmd >> $LOG <<EOF
    cp $BKP/$FILENAME $LOCALBACKUPDIR
    EOF
    fi
    done
    echo `date` >> $LOG
    2) The second method, DBMS_FILE_TRANSFER took me less than 1 second to copy one file completely.
    sys@VSGDB> set timing on
    sys@VSGDB> exec dbms_file_transfer.COPY_FILE('asm_dir','level_0_vsgdb_9998_813844797.bkp','fs_dir','level_0_vsgdb_9998_813844797.bkp');
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.

  • IPod with HFS+ filesystem

I have an Mac formatted iPod (HFS+ filesystem). When I first installed Arch linux, I got the iPod working after switching to the the Beyond kernel. But now, a few month later it doesn't work anymore. This is the output of dmesg after connecting the iPod:
    scsi 3:0:0:0: Direct-Access-RBC Apple iPod 1.53 PQ: 0 ANSI: 2
SCSI device sdb: 78126048 512-byte hdwr sectors (40001 MB)
sdb: test WP failed, assume Write Enabled
SCSI device sdb: write cache: disabled, read cache: enabled, doesn't support DPO or FUA
SCSI device sdb: 78126048 512-byte hdwr sectors (40001 MB)
sdb: test WP failed, assume Write Enabled
SCSI device sdb: write cache: disabled, read cache: enabled, doesn't support DPO or FUA
    sdb: unknown partition table
sd 3:0:0:0: Attached scsi removable disk sdb
As I understand it the kernel can't read the partition table on the iPod, and therefore I cannot mount any of the partitions on it. I can see the hfsplus module loaded with the lsmod command. If there is a configuration in the linux kernel for mac style partitions, why has that option been disabled?
I have tried switching between kernel26 and kernel26-beyond several times after upgrades availiable via pacman, but still no go. I guess I could learn to compile my own kernel, but as I don't understand the ABS-howtos on the Arch Wiki, I'd rather not. Please help me...
Edit: Added solved to the topic as I have gotten my iPod to mount again (see below), but I still would like to know if I understand how to work with a custom kernel config and ABS.
Edit: removed Solved from topic as I do not yet understand how this should be done.

    That is the correct way.
If you take a look at the wiki page on building kernels with the ABS, you will read this:
    _cfgname:
This optional field will be part of the package name. It should briefly indicate what type of choices were made in the kernel config. Examples would be "sn45g" to indicate the config is customized for a particular kind of computer, or "test" to indicate you are testing a different configuration, or "nofb" if you disabled the framebuffer. It is strongly recommended that you leave this blank ("") to indicate a stock Arch kernel config. You could also use this filed to indicate architechure restrictions of the kernel from makepkg.conf compile options - "athlon" perhaps for an athlon specific build.
    And
    Results
    Package Name:
The name of this package will be a combination of the pkgbase, patchset, and _cfgname separated by hyphens.
    Package Version:
The version of this package will be a combination of the kerver, extraver separated by underscores and the pkgbuil will be appended on the end separated by a hyphen.
    Package File:
The package filename will be: kernel-$patchset-$cfgname-$kerver$_extraver-$pkgrel.pkg.tar.gz
    /boot Files:
    vmlinuz-$kerver-$extraver-$patchset-$cfgname
    System.map-$kerver-$extraver-$patchset-$cfgname
    kconfig-$kerver-$extraver-$patchset-$cfgname
    Modules:
Modules will be placed in /lib/modules/$kerver-$extraver-$patchset-$cfgname
    Source:
The kernel source directory will be copied to /usr/src/linux-$kerver-$extraver-$patchset-$cfgname Note: /usr/src/linux will be mapped to this directory upon installation.

  • MAJOR TM Bug found in 10.6.1! Time Machine corrupts HFS+ Filesystem! Raid 0

    Hey there,
i guess i just found a major bug in 10.6.1 and Time Machine which will corrupt the whole Partion which was selected for the Time Machine Backup.
This is what i got here atm:
2x Western Digital MyBook Mirror Ed. (ext. 2TB Raid0 HDD (2x1TB))
    1x Mac Pro running 10.6.1
    1x Macbook Pro running 10.6.1
    1x Mac Mini running 10.5.8
    Ok here we go:
I just updated to Snow Leopard a few weeks ago and wondered why my always working WD MyBook was not working as a Time Machine Backup Partition anymore.
Everytime i started a backup it failed after 10 gig or so. After reading all over the troubleshooting and this forum i am a 100% sure that this is not a usually bug like not formatting the hard drive to GUID Mode or so.
Well... i tried the second MyBook.. same result on both Macs running 10.6.1
Now i got suspicious and opened the MyBook in order to put those 2 HDDs in my Mac Pro and built a 2TB Raid0 via OSX.
Guess what? Same result when running Time Machine! Running Time Machine on a single 1 TB HDD was working perfectly fine.
No i just remebered that there was a Mac Mini hooked up to my TV that was still running 10.5.8 just because of Plex... Hooked up BOTH MyBook Mirror Editions and both worked perfectly fine!
Now where can i report this error? I have no doubt that Time Machine on 10.6.1 is corrupting the HFS+ Filesystem when the partition is a RAID 0 Partition.
Please let me know what you think and where i can report this bug. Anyone knows if this one is already fixed in 10.6.2?
    Thanks!
    André

Yeah i did check the firmware updates for both mirror editions. Both are up to date. What botheres me is that they are not working aswell when they are out of their enclosure and directly built in to the mac pro. Can this really be a firmware issue then?
From what I've read on repair/recovery sites, WD does put some of their firmware on a special part of the drive's platter itself. So it's still possible to have instructions on the actual disk that can create a problem. I do not know if this is causing your issue, it's just something I became aware of when shooting trouble on some MyBook/Mac issues. There are some WD enhancements to power management that may be problematic for Time Machine. I don't really know the whole story, just relaying what I've read.
It's also possible that 10.6.2 (in beta) will help with an issue like yours. In our machines we've been using Hitachi and Seagate and the occasion Samsung drives for the last few years. Our external closures come from OWC and we haven't had any of the firmware issues that happened with the Leopard release and WD and now maybe the SL release.
The only way I would be able to point a finger right now would be to swap in a couple of other drives and see how they work. Right now it doesn't matter who's at fault, Apple or WD. The drives don't work. If it's a problem with your installation you may be able to determine that by doing the above tests. If it's a problem with Apple's drivers there may not be a repair possible or a future update will be required. The same goes for the WD drives.
Sidenote: For our own network, we have decided to do away with Leopard Server on an old Dual G4 1.42 tower and use our new ReadyNAS drive from Netgear. It's already working perfectly with Time Machine for several computers, file storage for PC/Mac/Linux, torrent download machine, basic web server, etc. We've put in 4 1TB drives and got 2.7TB of redundant hot swap raid. We'll replace the 1TB drives with 2TB drives, one at a time (although the available space won't increase until all 4 drives are swapped in), while the NAS is online, to increase our storage as required and the drives come down in price.
We decided that if the data is important then a striped 2 drive volume isn't safe enough. We would have needed to mirror the drives and loose half the space and still have to keep the old server online.
I'll watch this thread for information from others. I don't have the drives you are using to test with.

  • Delete file from the filesystem?

    Hello,
I have an easy question. But I don´t find the right oracle packages.
I want to delete a file from the filesystem. How can I do this?
    Thanks for your help!

    Paul,
If connecting to the Web server on East-Coast USA is not optimal for you, or if you aren't using Oracle 10g Release 2, try this URL instead:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/index.html
You need to look for the PL/SQL Packages and Types Reference document, the section detailing the UTL_FILE package.
    Good Luck,
