How to turn off IPV6 on Lion Server

I did a clean install of Lion Server on my Mac Mini. I need to enable the firewall on that machine.
My Mini is only connected via WiFi to the network.
Due to firewall / Networksoftware issues i would like to disable IPV6 on the Lion Server completely.
The menu however only shows entries for "Automatic, Manual or Link-Local". On a Lion install (no Server) there is also the "Off".
Is there any reason i cannot switch off IPV6? If i cannot switch it off how do i configure my firewall so my software no longer
tries to connect using IPv6. I assume IPV6 is chosen in the first place due to a mDNS running with IPV6 enabled as i only configure ipv4 stuff and have eliminated all ipv6 completely from all other os's.
thanks & regards
udo

I found a fix for this issue and applied it to several different MacBooks, iMac's, PowerMac's in the last couple of weeks. It works quite well and will now show or unlock the option of "Off" in the IPv6 section of GUI once these process is completed.
Click some place on the desktop
Click on the Go menu at the top of your screen
Click on Utilities
Inside the Utilities menu you will find the utility called Terminal
Open up Terminal
Depending if your account has admin privileges or the following will be different.
In the terminal window type in the following:
networksetup –listallnetworkservices  (precede this command with su or sudo if you are not logged in as an admin of the MAC)
You will see a list of network services such as Wi-Fi, Ethernet, Bluetooth, Firewire etc etc.
The next couple of commands will enable a new option in the GUI that will say Off under your Wi-Fi and Ethernet etc.
networksetup -setv6off Ethernet
networksetup –setv6off Wi-Fi
networksetup –setv6off FireWire
networksetup –setv6off 'Bluetooth PAN'  (if you have this)
networksetup –setv6off 'VPN (PPTP)'   (if you have this)
Close the terminal window and reboot your MAC
You will be all set and all IPV6 stuff will be disabled for your networking and you will also have the new option in the GUI to change it if you so choose to in the future.

  • How to turn off auto mounting of server on boot?

I've got an old MacPro that is running Mavericks but is having an issue where the finder constantly crashes and restarts. I think it may have to do with a an old server (an external Mac mini) that would mount when the MacPro booted up because I now get an error message telling me that the Mac Pro can no longer find that server (which makes sense as it is no longer there). If I leave the error window open and don't click 'ok', the Finder remains intact and the crash loop does not begin. If I click 'ok' in the server connection error window, the problems begin.
…So, where do I "turn off" this auto mounting of the old mac mini on boot? I've looked in my Login items in the system prefs and no such task is there, and I can no longer recall how i even set up this automount function.
Thanks for any help you can offer.

    Repair Disk.
Choose Apple menu > Restart. Hold down the Command (⌘) and R keys as your computer restarts.
When you see a white screen with an Apple logo in the middle, you can release the keys.
Click Disk Utility, and then click Continue.
In the list at the left, select the item you want to repair.Macintosh HD.
    Click First Aid.
    Click Repair Disk.
If Disk Utility reports that the disk appears to be OK or has been repaired, you’re done.
    Click Restart.

  • How to turn off hyperthreading in Lion?

I've read discussions about turning off hyperthreading, but none of the methodolgies suggested will work in 10.7.  How can this be done in Lion?
I'd like to try turning it off because I have a number-crunching program that is called repeatedly and it hangs at different random points in the code sometimes, even when processing the same data (I have a test case that I've put into a loop--it fails after different numbers of iterations and at different points in the code but it is always running on the same data).  The same code runs with no problems on my SL Mac mini and MacBook 5,1, but not on my Lion Mac mini w/ 2.7 GHz i7.
I tried copying the CPUPalette.app from my SL computer as well as the SL Processor.prefPane, but neither will run under Lion.  I have the Xcode developer software (version 4.1, with updates) but can't find a version of CHUD for it (I've seen reference to stand-alone CHUD tools on the Developer site, but I can't find them and Search of the site doesn't recognize CHUD).  If someone can provide a direct link, that would be great!

No, I haven't.  Evidently that is not available through the free developer program.  Here's what I get when I follow that link:
You do not have access to this resource based on your membership.
Access to technical resources such as pre-release software and associated documentation, and information related to distributing iOS or Mac apps on the App Store are benefits offered to Apple Developer Program members.
Either the Apple ID and password you entered is not associated with an Apple Developer Program, or the Program that you are enrolled in does not have access to this resource.

  • How to turn off / disable a Coldfusion Server?

I have a Coldfusion MX 7 server running on a test machine.
This server is just for testing applications on the local machine
(of which I am the administrator of). At times I also use this same
machine to do 3D Rendering. When the Coldfusion server is running
it hogs a lot of precious RAM unecessarily. I count 7 services
running in the task manager related to the Coldfusion server.
How do I disable or turn off the Coldfusion server upon
bootup? Either set something so that it will not run at all upon
bootup, or be able to somehow shut the CF server down, so that no
services for it are running after booting up. In other words
sometimes I would like the CF server to run, other times I don't
want it running AT ALL. How can I do this? After searching the CF
docs I have come up with no answer..
Any help would be most appreciated!

Coldfusion runs as a service. You can manage them by going to
start > Administrative tools > Service (or by going to start
    > run > services.msc). This will list all of the services
running on the system. There are several services that may be
running, depending on what type of installation you did. You can
either stop or disable these (by stopping, the service will start
again the next time you reboot; disabling prevents them from
starting on startup - this may still require you to stop the
service... if you disable you will have to re-enable the next time
    you want to use CF).
Some of the services you may have to stop:
    Macromedia CFMX
    Macromedia JRun Cfusion Server
    ColdFusion MX 7 ODBC Agent
    ColdFusion MX 7 ODBC Server
    ColdFusion MX 7 Search Server

  • How to turn OFF Organize by Conversation in all mailboxes at once and set it as default?

The Apple Mail Organize by Conversation is not working properly on Mail 6.5 on Mac with OS X 10.8.4 (Mountain Lion).
How to turn off such Organize by Conversation in all mailboxes of at once and leave it off as default for past and new messages?

It works doing it with one mailbox at a time, selecting it and then deselecting "View - Organize by Conversation". A real pain and clealry impractical when you have thousands of mailboxes...
It does not work at all deselecting even all items in "Mail - Preferences - Viewing - View Conversations". After that, all the imported mailboxes have the Organize Conversation active.
Anyone knows how to overcome this? Thanks.

  • How to turn off "re-open all application windows"

How to turn off "re-open all application windows". Even though its unselected in preferences. my computer still tries to do this and causes startup problems and delays. its been a hangup since lion. when are they going to fix this???

    Try this. . .
You have two choices. You can choose that your applications not resume their previous state when you shutdown or restart the Mac by deselecting the checkbox that appears prior to shutdown:
Or you can navigate to the General pane in System Preferences and deselect the Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps option. However, if you do this, applications will never resume their previous state, even when quit and restarted during a single boot session.

  • RSSTAT1 after upload. Problems + how to turn off?

    Hi experts,
We have had a problem with an upload to one cube. After the upload was finished, the program rsstat1 automatically started, but never commited (step callback was never performed in the background job). Due to this, the transaction log in the DB was never released.
Question1: how to turn off the automatic start of the rsstat1? Is it connected to BW statistics? We are currently not using any BW Statistic cubes.
Question2: What could be the reason for this job to fail (start but not performing the call back.) Any ideas?
    Thanks

Ahhhh... Doh!  Ok, so, X server has built-in display power management and using the keyboard or mouse will interrupt DPM, but it looks like the DPM doesn't have the ability to recognize movement on the screen to interrupt the computer from going to sleep.  Good to know, thanks Ashren.  Is there a program that can do this though, that anyone hasheard of?

    A little background:
Several macs are networked (with out a server) and scheduled to startup at 6:45 for a Retrospect back-up script to start at 7am. Retrospect runs through the computer that won't automatically login at startup (the system pref. Option is grayed out as described above)

  • Yoga 2 Pro -- how to turn off switching mode notifications -- e.g. "tent mode", "tablet mode", etc?

Does anyone know how to turn off the notifications that pop up in the upper right corner telling you that you have just changed from one configuration to another -- e.g. changing from tent mode to tablet mode?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Just disable it -
Task manager > Startup > Click "Yoga Picks" > Click "disable"
Next time you start your computer no more annoying pop ups.  If you want to be annoyed again you can always re-enable it.

  • I simply want to know how to turn off iCloud* without losing my contacts

Call me old fashioned, but I really do NOT want to use iCloud EXCEPT for ONE THING*: and that's to find my phone, ipad or laptop if it goes missing.
Having said that, I have figured out how to turn off icloud on my ipad and my iphone (I am not using the phone as a phone, just as a glorified ipod) while keeping the "find my ipad/iphone" function active, BUT
I can't quite figure out how to do it on my laptop.
I seem to have done it already for photos, and for the calendar, (I know this from checking iCloud to see what it's got) but just cannot figure out how to turn it off for contacts.
And YES, I've backed up all of those things at LEAST 3 different ways, I just don't want the Cloud to be one of them.
So can anyone tell me how to turn off contacts in the cloud without it also magically deleting them in my laptop? (I had it happen on the ipad, that's why I'm worried.)
Thank you for understanding-I'm older and this stuff just keeps getting more complicated and I'm a simple person. I'll back up my own stuff!

If you are refering to documents such as Pages and Numbers files....
The only way around this is to "save as" you icloud documents using the associated app to a local folder on your mac.  Then turn off icloud.
Of course, when you sign off of icloud, the docs are removed from the mac, but remain in icloud.  In the future when you sign back in, the documents are available to you again.
Oh, and the icloud documents are also stored locally in ...
    ~/Library/Mobile Documents
Note that Library in the user's home folder is now hidden, so you'll have to set Finder to view hidden files.
The Mobile Documents folder has subfolder where copies of the doc/data files are stored.
You can move these files to another folder to save them.

  • I'm using same icloud and same apple ID on two iphones. Now i get calls from same number on both iphones at the same time. How to turn off that?

I'm using same icloud and same apple ID on two iphones. Now i get calls from same number on both iphones at the same time. How to turn off that?

Apple ID's are not device specific, so when you changed it on the iPad 2 it changed it on the iPhone 4 as well, since it's the same account still. What you need to do is create a second Apple ID (so you'll have two accounts, one for iPhone 4 and a seperate one for iPad 2).
To create a new Apple ID on your iPad 2:
    1) Go into Settings > Store.
    2) If you are already signed in, tap your Apple ID on the screen and you will be given a few options, one of which is to sign out of your account.
    3) After you sign out, now click the "Sign in" button.
    4) Tap "Create New Apple ID" and follow the instructions on-screen.
