  • Upgrading ESS/MSS

    Hello,
I am on NW04s ESS6.0 ESS/MSS SP10 and want to upgrade to SP10 ...I want to know certain things about it..
    1) How many new tracks do we need to create.?
    2) Do we need to manually move the changes from the old track.?
    3) Are there any other requirements for the Upgrade process.?
Any help would be highly appreciated.

    Hi Subash,
sorry for the slow reply. Generally when upgrading you already have one track which contains all your mods. SAP says three for this reason:
Old Track: contains all the mods, no changes here used for comparison
Actual code Track; Contains all the new code, no mods, this allows overwriting            of deployed version should something go wrong after making changes. sort of a backup version to start from.
Implementation Track: Contains all the new code with mods, this is your final DCs that will go to production.
Yes, there is a one-to-one mapping with Development configuration file and track.

  • How to use ESS/MSS

    Hi,
           This is bhargava.
How to use the ESS/MSS BP's under portal context.

    Hey Bhargava,
Be specific What is your exact requirement do you want the complete set of configuration of ESS/MSS on Portal EP 6.0 or EP 7.0, which will just installed the
    Business Package on portal...
Download the following Business Packages from www.service.sap.com
    1.ESS <patch number>-10002965.sca (here, ESS11p_2-10002965.sca)
    2.MSS <patch number>-10002964.sca (here, MSS11p_2-10002964.sca)
    3.PCUIGP<patch number>-20000568.sca (here PCUIGP011_0-20000568.sca)
Once you installed these package in portal via SDM you need to maintain the JCO
You have to maintain following JCo destinations for ESS and MSS.
    Connection Name                    Logon Method
    SAP_R3_Financials                    Ticket
    SAP_R3_Financials_MetaData               User/Password
    SAP_R3_HumanResources               Ticket
    SAP_R3_HumanResources_MetaData          User/Password
    SAP_R3_SelfServiceGenerics               Ticket
    SAP_R3_SelfServiceGenerics_MetaData          User/Password
    SAP_R3_SelfServiceGenerics_MetaDataFIN     User/Password
    SAP_R3_SelfServiceGenericsFIN          Ticket
    SAP_R3_Travel                    Ticket
    SAP_R3_Travel_MetaData               User/Password
    Under R/3
Creating a Role & User in HR system
you should be able to use the ESS applications (services), your employees require particular authorizations.
Log on to the SAP ECC system.
    Run PFCG transaction (Role Maintenance).
Create copies of the composite role SAP_EMPLOYEE_ERP and all the single roles contained in it.
    Creating User in Portal
Create ESSUSER in portal. (Same user as R3 User for SSO)
    Assign Role to ESS User.
    Select User Administration->Roles->Roles
    Search the ESSUSER.
Select Following Roles and assign them to ESS User.
    com.sap.pct.ess.employee_self_service
    com.sap.pct.mss.manager (For MSS)
Login in to Portal with ESS User. Change the initial password u can get following screen.
If you want a complete step of installation document let me know...

  • How to Integrate ESS/MSS to Webdynpro Application?

    Hi All,
    I am New to Webdynpros.
I Want to Develop Application on Webdynpro and integrate to ESS/MSS.
How to Start and what to do?
    Plz Reply ASAP.
    Thanks and Regards
    Kiran

Most of the application in ESS have used the FPM (http://help.sap.com/saphelp_erp2005/helpdata/en/3f/20888224c544a2a01d9fe618902ae5/frameset.htm) to develop new self service applications.
You may start developing applications as described in the help link and then integrate it with ESS. You will have to maintain some setting under Homepage Framework in SPRO. There are plenty of threads describing this. Do  search

  • How to Config ESS & MSS

    Hello Masters
Could u send a best Link on
                Configuring ESS & MSS
    Thanks

    Hi,
    1. Can SAP control ESS/MSS not to allow (to grey field approval ) user to change the approval fields? If yes, how to config this?
There are multiple ways to achieve this, you can achieve it through config or by personalizing the WD screen.
Easiest will be to personalize the Web Dynpro screen.
    a. Preview the Leave request application through Content Administration.
    b. Press Ctrl+Right Click on the approver field.
    c. In the Personalization dialog select Read only.
    2. Instead of default Head of org unit as approval, can I skipped it  to the another superior higher than him/her.For example i'm in org A. Org A under Support dept.  I want to to set  default approval for staff  2 level org unit above him/her.
All the custom logic can be implemented by implementing the BADI
    PT_GEN_REQ (as of Release 5.00)
BAdI: Control Processing Processes for Web Applications
    PT_ABS_REQ (from Release 5.00)
    Enhancements for Leave Request
    3. For some leave ie Hosp leave, how to default approval to HR manager.
    same as above
4.For project staff, can we put his supervisor as a approval.
    same as above
    5. I want to hide leave not to allow staff to see his mc balance only. How to config this. However, the staff stil apply via ess/mss to the approval.
I didn't understand the requirement. Can you please elaborate ?
    Thanks

  • How to display ESS/MSS in different NW Portal

    Hello Experts,
We are running ESS/MSS on a NW 6.0 portal. Now, we have a requirement to also display this ESS/MSS content on another portal which is running on NW 7.01 (we do not wish to install ESS/MSS on this server).
What is the best way to accomplish this? Could you please give me some advise and links to articles or blogs on the web that has step by step instructions? I searched around, but was unable to find anything related to this.
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Regards,
    Abu

According to SAP's FPN's prerequisites and Version Interoperability guide
SAP NetWeaver consumer and producer portals should all be running SAP NetWeaver 7.0
    SAPNetWeaver '04 is not supported.
    Additional details: http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/EN/45/76322bf0020dece10000000a11466f/frameset.htm
In fact there are issues if multiple SPS on NW7 are used (for instace producer is SP09 and consumer is SP11). Note 1005176 talks about patching some of the components to fix the issue.
So, FPN is out of the question. Has anyone done it using the Portals' URL or appIntegrator iView?

  • How to modify ESS/MSS iviews without NWDI

    Hi Everybody,
The last couple of day's I have been searching the forums to find an answer to the above mentioned question. Is there a way to modify the ess/mss iviews without NWDI?
I have tried allmost anything I could think off... Unzip the files and import the files manualy into nwds etc...
After while I saw a posting that SCA files could be imported in the latest version of NWDS, I was able to import the SCA files of SAP into NWDS 7.1, but I am not able to create a project out of them. Probably this will also lead to issues when uploading the newly build sca files into portal 7.0.
    Can anyone help me?
    Thanks in advance.
    Kind regards,
    Xander

    Hi Xander,
Some time ago I had the same question as you and as you I tried several things to load the SCA file to NWDS but after several tests it was loaded but without the screens.
I was able to create the project but it was missing many things when I tried to compile the project,  the reason for this is that the ESS Package has a dependency in other SC as specified in the SAP Note 872892 - JDI/NWDI Cookbook for ESS/XSS (NWDI.zip File).
When you have all the dependencies (SCA files) it is a bout 700 MB which is a lot to load locally and figuring out exactly what you need  will take a long time so at the end I could not use any trick to avoid the use NWDI as I only had to do 1 change to 1 DC ess/ca/padata so installing NWDI was an overhead for that only change, but at the end I have to do it.
I found the same posting as you and it seems NWDI 7.1 has the feature to do exactly what we needed.
But if you want to modify just the iviews as you are mentioning in your post you can do this straight in EP Content after copying your own content from the SAP standard content to do your modifications.
    Best regards,
    Juan Jose

  • What is the exact procedure of upgrading the ESS/MSS

    Hi,
We intially started with EP 7.0 sp13 and ESS/MSS version 600 SP10.Later on we upgraded to EP 7.0 SP13 and ESS/MSS to SP13.
we have done lot of customisations to SAP ESS/MSS standard code and we did them again when we upgraded ESS/MSS.
Again we are planning to upgrade Portal to another version .so here my doubts are
    1.Is it necessary to upgrade ESS/MSS everytime we upgrade portal(because ESS/MSS version = Portal version - 3 )
2.Do we need to do all the customisations again manually?
3.Is there anyway we can create copy of all the DCs which we want to customise and then do the customisations so that we dont need to redo all the work whenever we upgrade ESS/MSS
    Thanks
    Bala Duvvuri

    Bala,
Usually, there are 3 (+1 ) types of patches that are done:
    1. Kernel and JDK. This one is easy, can be done often. Affects perfomance, but rarely functionality.
    2. Netweaver SPS. This one will update basic functionality, but in most cases will not affect ESS. Also can be done every 3 month.
    3. ERP SPS. This one will affect ESS. You will be required to go through the cookbook. Backend HR component versions must match EP XSS. It makes sense, because EP XSS will call backend BAPIs and they should be of the same versions. Not very often I see ERP SPS applied every 3 month. One of the reasons is that user UI screens and procedure may change and the cycle of testing and user training rarely fits into 3 month.
+1. EHP, Enancement Packs. This is SAP effort to give a more granular aproach to functional changes. Basically your functional team will decide if it needs a new function and it will be possible to implement and activate it. If it happens that the function is HR and it affects XSS and it brings a new version, then yes, you will need to do XSS merge-update. It will be clear from the EHP docs. How often to do ESS related EHP? See 3. Keep in mind that EHP docs may give an impression that there is no impact until you "turn on" new function, but it is true for ABAP (with some exceptions), less so on the Java side.

  • ESS MSS Upgrade to 2004s SP 11

    Hi ,
Currently we are on 2004s SP9 and intend to move to SP11.
I have a couple of questions here. WE are using mySAP ERP BP for ESS and MSS with SP 6 ( i.e compatible with 2004s SP9). We made lot of changes to some web dynpro code and went live 2 months back. Now as part of the upgrade if the basis team installs SP8 for BP's ESS and MSS(2004s SP11) through JSPM/SDM on the EP J2EE engine, will it override all the custom code that we have done? I surely guess so. In that case do we not install SP8 for BP's ESS and MSS through JSPM but rather follow the 4 track methodology for upgrades and upgrade ESS MSS through NWDI rather than JSPM?
I am sorry if i had confused you guys, this is the first time we doing the upgrade after go-live .. hence the basic doubts.
Any note or reference for upgrade startegy will be pretty useful
    thanks alot in advance
    regards
    rajk

    Hi Raj,
You will deploy the latest component of the ESS/MSS through the JSPM. So while deploying the component in JSPM you also have to select the NWDI control according the runtime system. JSPM will then recognize which component is managed by the NWDI. ESS/MSS modified component and will only be transported to the EPS transport directory without deployment, where as the unmodified component (like PUCI_GP) is deployed.
The other way of updating is also through the NWDI where you even do not use the JSPM. So if you do not want your custom code to override by the new SP level, then you need to go through NWDI.
    Thanks & regards

  • ESS & MSS Role

    Hi Experts
How to map ESS & MSS roles to ECC 6.0 Roles in EP.
Say for example in ECC 6.0 we have a user A and User B.
User A have some addtional attributes and User B does not have it
How to map this two users in EP.
    Thanks
    Daya.
Edited by: daya damu on May 27, 2008 8:27 PM

    Hi Daya,
You will have to do the user mapping,
It can be done in two ways,
    1. Go to user administration and once you enter user A, you will have an option of "User mapping".
    2. When you are logged onto the portal, click, personalize option and choose "User Mapping".
User mapping is basically done when the portal users and ECC users are different.
Let me know if you need any further clarification on the same.
