I have i macbook pro with OS 10.5.8. Now, i would like to upgrade it to OS lion. What should I do? Can I purchase directly the OS lion? What's a OS lion server?

Unfortunately you cannot get Lion without updating to Snow Leopard first. This is because Lion is available through the Mac App Store exclusively. The Lion Server is for businesses in particular, who use it to share calenders, contacts, email addresses etc.

You DO have to Upgrade to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 first, then you can Upgrade directly to Mountain Lion from there, IF your computer supports Mountain Lion (see below)? Snow Leopard at this point is only available by calling Apple Customer Support in your country and ordering the download code and process, or possibly a Disk, for Snow Leopard.

You need to purchase the 10.6 Operating Disks, as 10.6 is not downloadable. You can purchase these disks from the on-line apple store - http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard.
