How to Validate the user entred value

Hi All
I am new to APEX... :)
Can any one send me the URL or material where i can go through and create sample applicaiton having the following functionalities
1) Create a form for the user to enter the data
2) Create users and give access
3) Validate the user entered values (Validation of a e-mail filed or Phone no)

Hari,
You should start on our Getting Started page (http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/html/getting_started.html). I would suggest you do the OBE. It will show you how to create an application, add validations (that is what will make a user enter data in your email and phone fields) and create users. It uses APEX Authentication which means that any developer within the workspace can access and run the application and that you can also create end-users from within your workspace that will only be able to run your applications (not access the development environment).
It will definitely answer your questions -

You can get the instance using the method get_instance of the class cl_sem_variable, and call the method get_value with the return. Check the example:
      CALL METHOD cl_sem_variable=>get_instance
        EXPORTING
          i_area       = (planning area)
          i_variable   = (variable name)
        RECEIVING
          rr_variable = lr_var
        EXCEPTIONS
          not_existing = 1
          OTHERS       = 2.
      CHECK sy-subrc IS INITIAL.
      CALL METHOD lr_var->get_value
        RECEIVING
          rto_value = et_value
        EXCEPTIONS
          error     = 1.
After this, read the first line of the table et_value (it should be the value that the user choose on the screen).

hi,
i want to find, whether the user entered value is Integer or not. If it is Integer, i wanna continue the program. otherwise send an error message. i tried to find for function in API. But i couldn't. can somebody help me with sample code. very urgent.

Do a Integer.parseInt(<string value>) in a try catch block If a NumberFormatException is thrown, the entered number is not an integer.

After submitting the Concurrent request when we click on the view Details button it opens a form where it displays the arguments in the parameter field . i want to get that string.

How to validate the incoming field value and raise an alert message

Dear all,
I have the following structure
If incoming value for the field externalid is empty then i have to raise a alert message to end user "externalid field is empty for the id : id number" and for all incoming values it should work. I used the following udf on field externalid with two arguments
if(externalid.equals(""))
throw new RuntimeException("externalid field empty for the following id : " +id);
else
return externalid;
This is working fine for single record. But for many records(multiple occurences), this logic is not working as if records 2 and 3 fails it is showing exception externalid field is empty for the id : record 2.
how to achieve the tranformation logic ?

No node is creating for success records, instead it throws exception that "externalid field is missing for the id": id     for empty externalid field value in second record.
But my requirement is..... when i process 50 records, records with missing value for field externalid should raise an alert message to end user intimating him to check the externalid field for particular id. If the value for externalid field is present in incoming record/payload, then it should be passed to target system.
How can i implement this logic ?

How to validate the line item values in OFR - quantity , unit price and UOM

Hi All,
Is there any possibility to validate the line items like quantity, unit price and UOM against the DB and stops those invoices at verifier (1 batch =10 invoices) level if yes could you please let me know the process how to proceed further.
due to this some the invoices are coming to OFR is with incorrect quantity, UOM and unit price different from PO lines information like quantity , UOM and unit price and those invoices are not validating from the DB and these are processed to EBS and it's effecting the GL and reporting.

I did not get the exact requirement.Let me bit:
In standard AP project lines validation will try to compare the quantity , unit price and UOM of line against the database for match which actually performed on export.
So even if match fails batch will be exported.Now if you want to correct it before EBS,i think you can do it in the business process easily that you are consuming whether BPEL/BPM process.
We have done this in several projects

But If you want that to be done from OFR side i think we need to code UserExitPONumberValidate event to compare the line items values against database.I need to test this also.

if that user having the authorization then it should allow to enter value in the matkl(material group) field.
other wise it should not allow.

Hi,
You can validate the fields in the LSMW in field mapping section .
For example you are loading the BOM using LSMW and you want to validate those material numbers which do not exist in the material master .
For this purpose write a select statement to check the materials existence like below :
select single matnr into v_matnr
from mara
where matnr = source-matnr .
if sy-subrc <> 0.
skip_record. " this statement will skip the record .
endif.
To get such statements to handle the records withing LSMW during data transfer .Go to the field mapping step , there in abap conversion routine step
go to ' INSERT' -> 'GLOBAL FUNCTIONS' -> ( then a pop will open offering various function options for your requirement. ) In fact SKIP_RECORD is also available there .

Hi Venuthurupalli,
As valery has said once you select the value to be of type integer,once you perform an action it will be validated and error message that non numeric characters are there will be shown. If you want to set additional constraints like max value, min value etc you can use simple types for it.
On the project structure on left hand side under local dictionary ->datatypes->simple types create a simple type of type integer
The attribute which you are binding to value property ;make its type as simple type which you made

Block contain 5 items. I am populating data cursor to block for 4 items. User will enter one item value that is quantity field.
If user enter negative values and decimal points in quantity filed i need to display message to user item level.

I am new to OBPM 10g, pls tell me how to validate the fields in a presentation.
for example if we take login presentation if user enters his user name and password wrongle and submit the form. Then we need to display error message right side of the each field i.e user name and passowrd is wrong and try again.

Hi Jaya,
You can initially set the validation for empty values.. that is when the user dint enters any value and clicks on submit.
for these vadliations you need to write a method and call it on submit button click!!
secondly, you can validate for the format if required.
thirdly, you can validate against a database for the credentials. For this you need to fetch list of usernames from database and search for user entered value in that list.
Optimal query would be : if user name not null, query for pwd of the entered user name from database or file storage. if you dont get any value for pwd of given username, its incorrect user name. if you get some pwd value for username, then check against the one user entered in pwd field..
Write all this logic in a method and call on submit button click event of the login form!!
