How to write from beginning of text file?

Hello all,
All we have to do is to modify just first 2 lines of a 200,000 line files. I can do UTL_FILE.FCOPY to copy from line 3 to end of file and create a new file (FILE1). Now open a new file (say FILE2) and write the modified version of first two lines and then read the file (FILE1) which has rest of the original contents to write to this FILE2. But this process is taking for ever (around 30 minutes).
It would have been easy if I can open FILE1 and just write the first 2 lines. But when I open in append mode I can only write only at the bottom of the file. I tried UTL_FILE.FSEEK but it is not working when the file is opened in Append mode.
Anyone with a solution / suggestion / workaround is greatly appreciated.

I know the command in Unix to concatenate. There are other easy ways if I can make HOST command work on the application server instead of my local machine. To my surprise both HOST and TEXT_IO are able to work only on my local machine.
I was under the same impression as you are and trying to execute HOST providing Unix commands. Nothing working ... finally when I tried
HOST('echo abc > c:\sample.txt');
it crreated sample.txt on my local machine c:\

Read and write from and to text file

Hi All,
I am trying to read some portion of a text file and make measurement and calculation with those numbers and write back to the same text file and also to a excel file. I need to create a 2 D array of 20 by 20 from the text file values and write to front panel table and to text file. but I am having problem with it, obviously I am new to this. the requirement is to move C1 and C2 to each position that is given in the text file in steps and percentage value.
for example C1 has to go to first step (5%) and C2 has to go thru all steps, 5% to 95% , in 5 percent increment.
each 100 steps translates to 1 percent increment in the capacitor value.
at the end, I need to enter the measured data (values of C1 for each step, vesus all values of C2 for all steps) and enter them at the bottom of the text file's table where it starts at : "IMPEDANCE_REAL in Ohmone line per C1 position, containing all values for the different C2 positions" and do the same for where it says "IMPEDANCE_IMAGINARY in Ohmone line per C1 position, containing all values for the different C2 positions"
the reason I read the file twice, is that if it read it once, I couldn't connect it to spreadsheet string to array vi.
as you can see, I also like to use the write to measurement file and build table express vi's to display the table on the front panel and save the data to ni data file format so later I convert it to excel too.
any thoughts?

When you upgraded to Lion did you have AppleWorks installed on your mac?
Most of the AW documents can be opened by Pages 09 or Numbers 09 with most of the orginal format in tact. (I do not know if previouse verision will work) just open the AW file with both and see which one works best.
Text Edit will also open most of the AW files as well but will require a lot of work to restore them to their orginal format.
If you have AW Database documents then they are not supported.
These document show up as "exec icons", Kind: Unix Executagle File.
They also will show up as .cwk file if they are small files. I have a couple that were under 1mb that are shown as " Kind: AppleWorks Document" but will not open.
The only option to open AW database is to have AW installed on a mac with a pre-Lion OS to recover the file.

Where? -- In the actionPerformed method (better would be a separate thread that is triggered through the actionPerformed method, but that is probably beyond you at the moment), of course.

and retrieving the files, i would give the user a list of all the files that are in the database, the user would select one, but what command(or piece of code) would open the file in its apppropriate editor.
e.g .pdf formatted file would open in acrobat.
any help would be appreciated.

if you want to load xml, use the xml class.
and, if you want to write to an xml file and don't want to use server-side code, wait.

Write data to multiple text files after specific size

Hello,
I wrote a code that contineously writes data to a text file. The problem is I am running this VI for long time and therefore this text file is being bigger in size e.g. more than 10MB. I want to split writing data in this text file after max 1MB size. Can anyone help ????

I would use the Get File Position since this won't cause Windows to have to do so much. Assuming you are just writing and not setting the file position manually, this will return the size of the file in bytes (file position will always be at the end of the file).

I have a problem write data into a text file. I want to write 4 1D arrays into a text file. The problem is that I need to write it at different time and in different column (in other word, not only append the arrays).
Do you have an idea to solve my problem?

A file is long a linear string of data (text). In order ro insert columns, you need to rewrite the entire file, because colums are interlaced over the entire lenght of the file.
So:
read file into 2D array
insert columns using array operations
write resulting 2D array to file again.
(Only if your colums are guaranteed to be fixed width AND you know the final number of colums, you could write the missing columns as spaces and then overwrite later. Still, it will be painful and inefficient, because column data are not adjacent in the file.)

I have a string to be written to a file. the string contains "\n" in it. But why it is not showing the new line in the file.
I have tryed FileWriter class and FileOutputStream class, but none of them works?

Probably using PrintStream::println() is a portable way.

How to write the location of a file in a text file?

I am doing a POC with the following scenario:
Steps:
1. Move a file from one location in your system to another location, say from C drive to D drive.
2. After that i want to write the new location of the file in a text file.
I have succesfully moved the file from C drive to D drive using the File Adapter and also FTP Adapter. However I am unable to copy or write the new location of the file into a text file. Please provide me any suggestions regarding this issue i am facing. Your help and support is highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If want the file directory name to be captured in the BPEL process then add <element name="directory" type="string"/> in the inbound or outbound adapter header wsdl file. Then declare a variable of the header message type and in the 'adapter' tab of the receive or invoke activity select that variable which you previously created.
