How toopen jar file in jdev

Hi all
1)I don't have source code with me. i have only Jar file with me. Is it possible to open jar file in jdeveloper and see the contents of original.
2)How to see the code in jar file

You can integrate the JAD decompiler to the JDeveloper IDE for cases when you do not have any source. In this way you will be presented with decompiled source whenever you open a Java class with no source. Please, have a look at this link for instructions:

• How applet jar files are downloaded

Hi,
I want to deploy my app as an applet in a jar.
So assuming the end user has a compatible JRE installed.
The HTML in my page would point to my jar on the server and when the page is opened, the jar is downloaded to the end user machine and run in the JRE (on the page).
How is the download actually done? (FTP?). Does the jar have to be stored on a site with an FTP server.
Also, since the browser must be able to download my jar, I assume that also means that the user would also be able to just download my jar and redistribute / reengineer it.
Is there any way to prevent the user getting the jar from the server without of course stopping the browser from getting it?
Cheers,

Thanks George,
By 'not especially', do you mean definitely not?Yes. Like you said yourself, the jar is downloaded to the client machine. By definition, it's available to them
I am not saying it is extraordinarily brilliant but it has taken me four years to write so I prefer that some one else can't just download it, deobfuscate it, change a few things, rejar it and pass it off as their work.Common fear. Hardly ever justified. I'm not putting you or your work down, here, by the way.
If it is impossible, then fair enough. I would just like to know.You can obfuscate it, but it's rarely worth the effort. If it's good enough to be worth cracking, it'll get cracked, no matter what you do.

• How run jar files from a Jlist

I can already run my jar from command prompt
With java -jar me.jar.
But having a few problems with a list. Here's a bit of code I've atempted to try.
String filename = (directory + "/" +(String)mylist.getSelectedValue());
String name = filename.substring(51,filename.indexOf("."));
//String name = filename.substring(51);
Runtime rt = Runtime.getRuntime();
try
Process p = rt.exec("java -jar" + name);
catch(IOException e){}
System.out.println(name);

There may be much more wrong but since you use
java -jar me.jar
then I would expect the name in
Process p = rt.exec("java -jar" + name);
to include the ".jar" not exclude it has you have done.
Also, why not not
Process p = rt.exec("java -jar " + filename); // Note the space I added after the -jar
since you seem to have the full path in the string referenced by filename.
P.S. I just love the magic number 51 !

Hi Nidhin,
You could start by reading the EJB docs at

• How to make jar file for this compilation method ?

can any one tell me how to make jar file for this compilation
D:\java\browser\IEInJava>javac -classpath jdic.jar;. IEInJava.java
D:\java\browser\IEInJava>java -cp jdic.jar;. IEInJava
*this is a compile code:-*
D:\java\browser\IEInJava>javac -classpath jdic.jar;. IEInJava.java
*and this is a run code:-*
D:\java\browser\IEInJava>java -cp jdic.jar;. IEInJavanow how make JAR file ?

Assuming IEInJava only uses classes inside the jdic jar, this is one way. D:\java\browser\IEInJava> jar cf yourjar.jar IEInJava.classThen to run it you would use D:\java\browser\IEInJava> java -cp jdic.jar;yourjar.jar IEInJavaAnother way would use the jar manifest file to specify the Main-Class and Class-Path.

• JDeveloper and other Oracle JAR files with antivirus on access scanning

Hi
concerns in our IT department about security means that the AV software scans jar files on our client PC's and servers. This means that JDeveloper starts very slowly, even on a 3.2GHz PC. Can anyone tell me how to get around this or at least which jar files I could ask them to exclude from scanning? Also, will this affect running of our 10g Database and tools on the server?
Much appreciated
Peter - [email protected]

I've observed this problem with certain AV tools. Some fare much better than others (inside Oracle, we use Symantec AV and I see very little slowdown even when it's scanning jar files in jdev's install directory).
You didn't mention which version of jdeveloper you're using. Assuming 10.1.3 preview, the directories to exclude from scanning would be either the whole of your jdev install directory, or if you must be more selective, something like:
%JDEVHOME%/jlib
%JDEVHOME%/jdev/lib
%JDEVHOME%/ide/lib
%JDEVHOME%/jdev/extensions
%JDEVHOME%/lib
Would be a good start. These directories contain the bulk of the jars loaded at IDE startup.

• Jar file import problem with ADF application

Hi Everyone,
I am using Jdev 11g with integrated WLS. I have an ADF application and is trying to integrate JasperReport in it. I added the JasperReport JAR file in the project properties -> Libraries and Classpath, and checked it for "export" and "Deployed by Default'. I have my JasperReport codes in my managed bean
as follows
+public String cb1_action() {+
+try {+
+JasperDesign design = JRXmlLoader.load("C:/JDeveloper/mywork/ReentryApplication/ViewController/public_html/jasper/testReport.jrxml");+
+JasperReport report = JasperCompileManager.compileReport(design);+
+....+
+}+
+}+
I am able to compile the managed bean class successfully. However when I run the application, I got a stack of errors like this,
+[2009-10-08T11:31:59.910-04:00] [DefaultServer] [ERROR] [] [javax.enterprise.resource.webcontainer.jsf.application] [tid: [ACTIVE].ExecuteThread: '4' for queue: 'weblogic.kernel.Default (self-tuning)'] [userId: test123] [ecid: 0000IGollZuB5EirL4YBUA1AnVop00000L,0] [APP: ReentryApplication] java.lang.RuntimeException: net.sf.jasperreports.engine.JRException: Errors were encountered when compiling report expressions class file:[[+

+import net.sf.jasperreports.engine.*;+

It appears that the JAR file is not picked up at the runtime correctly. I tried a simple Main class with the same codes and JAR file added, it works fine. Does anyone know what I am missing within the ADF application?
Any helps would be appreciated.

Timo,
Thanks you for your prompt response.
1. I checked The following folder (I assume this is where it supposes to be). The JAR file is there.
C:\Documents and Settings\MISSP29\Application Data\JDeveloper\system11.1.1.1.33.54.07\o.j2ee\drs\ReentryApplication\ReentryApplication-ViewController-webapp\WEB-INF\lib
2. I did not do anything about deployment descriptor. Since I run my application within JDev integrated WLS, I did not do anything about deployment setting. Do I need do something with deployment descriptor if I want to import additional JAR files here? With my experience with 10g, to add a JAR file within JDev, all I need to do is to add it through project properties ->libraries.
3. I agree with your absolute path comment. This is a test of how JasperReport works with ADF application. I will work it out later.
Thanks,
-John

• I believe I have a problem with my Jar file build.

Hi, there. New to Java/JavaFX. Testing language features. Operating System: Windows 7; java version 1.7.0_03; javafx version 2.0.3.
This is a simple test with 2 classes: Test1.class resides in base directory "MyJavaFX"; TextFileLoader.class resides in sub-directory "inout" of "MyJavaFX"(i.e. MyJavaFX\inout).
Test1.class has an import statement "import inout.TextFileLoader;" TextFileLoader.class has a package statement "package inout;"
Both classes compile without problems and jar file is created using Ant tasks.
Within "MyJavaFX" as my current directory, When running Application Test1 (java -jar Test1.jar)
getting error "ClassNotFoundException: inout.TextFileLoader".
I believe it has to do with how Test1.jar file is built. I believe line 4 should say "inout/TextFileLoader.class"

This is "Test1.jar":

if javaw fails to launch the VM then a dialog should be displayed with an error. The first time I launch an application with javaw (after installing the JVM on a new machine it takes a long time for it to happen. have you tried from the command line >javaw -jar D.jar? I'm wondering if the installation of java went well on your machine. It's supposed to set up things correctly. did you install a new version of java over an existing one? maybe there was a java plugin previously installed on the machine before you installed j2sdk.

use as the following way to resolve the problem:
(1) use separate lines, to avoid too long a line for java package name lists
(2) type a preceding space before each folloing lines, for example:

• Difference b/w PAR & JAR Files

hi,
i m new to enterprise portal(EP),what is a use of PAR file in portal appl , what is the difference b/w PAR & JAR files,why cant we can use JAR file.
thank in advance naresh

Hi,
In computing, a JAR file (or Java ARchive) is used for aggregating many files into one. It is generally used to distribute Java classes and associated metadata.
1) WAR (file format) (Web Application aRchive) files are also Java archives which store XML files, java classes, Java Server Pages and other objects for Web Applications.
2) RAR (Resource Adapter aRchive) files, not to be confused with the RAR (file format), are also Java archives which store XML files, java classes and other objects for J2EE Connector Architecture (JCA) applications.
3)EAR (file format) (Enterprise ARchive) files are composite Java archives which combine XML files, java classes and other objects including JAR, WAR and RAR Java archive files for Enterprise Applications.
JAR files can be created and extracted using the "jar" command that comes with the JDK. It can be done using zip tools, but as WinZip has a habit of renaming all-uppercase directories and files in lower case, this can raise support calls with whoever created the JAR or the tool authors themselves. WinRAR, on the other hand, retains the original case of filenames.
A JAR file has an optional manifest file located in the path META-INF/MANIFEST.MF. The entries in the manifest file determine how the JAR file will be used. JAR files which are intended to be executed as standalone programs will have one of their classes specified as the "main" class. The manifest file would have an entry such as
Portal applications are packaged in PAR (Portal Archive) files. A PAR file is a standard ZIP file with a .par extension that contains a deployment descriptor, all Java classes, Web resources and other files required to run the application.
Within the portal, the name of the PAR file is the name of the application. The fully qualified name of any component or service defined in the PAR is the name of the PAR file, followed by a period (.) and then the name of the component or service.
A PAR file contains the following files:
The following files are contained files contained in a PAR file are divided into the following types:
●     Web resources
All files in a PAR file that are accessible directly via an HTTP request, such as:
○     HTML
○     Images
○     Stylesheets (.css)
Web resource files can be located anywhere outside the top-level PORTAL-INF and META-INF folders.
You can create links to these files directly. For more information, see Creating URLs to Web Resources.
· Java Classes and Deployment Descriptor
Java classes that implement the component and services defined in the PAR file, plus the deployment descriptor (portalapp.xml). The deployment descriptor specifies the components and services contained in the PAR file, and defines the configuration for the application, components and services. For more information the deployment descriptor, see Deployment Descriptor (portalapp.xml).
The PAR file’s Java classes and deployment descriptor are located in the top-level PORTAL‑INF folder
·        Manifest
A PAR can also include a manifest file (MANIFEST.MF in the top-level META-INF folder), which provides version information. The folder and file are not required, but are recommended for tracking versions of your application.
in enterprise portal we use mainly EAR as jar files.
to import EAR files you need to follow this steps
goto
system administration -> Transport -> Transport Packages -> import -> choose client or server on your convinence and browse to this file and press upload and then after uploading press import
for PAR files you need to follow this steps
goto
system administration -> support -> Support Desk -> in Top Level Areas selcet portal runtime -> in "Portal Anywhere" Admin Tools select Administration Console -> in Upload Archive Specify a Portal Archive (PAR) file and choose 'Upload' to store the PAR in the PCD-> browse the file and press upload.

• How to edit a jar file ?

Using JDeveloper 11.1.1.0 and it will not allow me to edit a jar file.
Steps
File -> Open and select a jar file
Double Click on MANIFEST.MF
The status bar displays "Read Only" and "Windows: CR/LF Editing"
All versioning has been turned off.
How do I get out of "Read Only" mode and be able to edit anything in the file ?????
Thank you

Come on, you can't be seriously try to edit a class file in side a jar.
One of the reasons they are in a jar is that users don't fiddle around with them. If you have to manipulate the manifest you can do so in the deployment descriptor of the application in JDEV.
If you are looking for something special in the jar there are a couple of explorer plug ins which allow you to do so (at your own risk).
