Howto run appserver behind apache proxy

I have an existing site that runs great on apache and have installed oracle application server elsewhere, now I need apache to redirect pages of /foo to oracle application server
in my apache config I have proxypass and proxypassreverse
when I access /foo then oracle application server sends a redirect using the host name of the box it's running on (which is behind the firewall and not accessisable) looking at the generated source all paths are relative so it appears the redirect is coming before the webapp ever sees the request
I'm using version 0.1.2.0.2
Has anyone done this? How do I do it?

We are using mod_proxy to proxy requests for JSP and servlets to oc4j . This works fine
<IfModule mod_proxy.c>
ProxyRequests On
ProxyPass /servlets http://oc4j_server_name:port/web_app/servlet
ProxyPassReverse /servlets http://oc4j_server_name:port/web_app/servlet
ProxyPass /jsp http://oc4j_server_name:port/web_app/jsp
ProxyPassReverse /jsp http://oc4j_server_name:port/web_app/jsp
</IfModule>

  • Running forms behind a proxy

need help on how to run forms behind a proxy.
i got this error when i try to run forms behind a proxy:
FRM-92060:Failed to connect to the Server.
    Bad Machine specification:starlite.ph:9000
    Thanks.

First I am not quite sure about this, but I think it may be because of the proxy does not support Oracle net8 connections (suppose you user version 8 or above).
Can your sqlplus connect to the database through the proxy correctly?
I know some proxy need some configuration in order to let Oracle work correctly.

  • Running application behind the proxy

    Hi,
I have developed one test SAPUI5 application and using Northwind OData service.
Application is working fine but when I try to run in my office network which is behind the proxy, application is giving "407,Proxy Authentication Required". Following is the web console log.
Yes this is the obvious behavior as I have to give my user name and password for accessing internet from my office network.
My question is how should I specify proxy user name and password in SAPUI5 application while accessing OData so that I can run it behind the proxy also.

Have you configured the proxy settings in Eclipse? I believe the SimpleProxyServlet uses the Eclipse Authenticator, and you can configure the proxy username and password in Eclipse.
    SAPUI5 SDK - Demo Kit
    Internet Servers
TheSimpleProxyServletcan be configured for proxy requests to internet servers in the same way as for intranet servers. Additional proxy settings may be necessary.
As theSimpleProxyServletautomatically uses the proxy settings from your Eclipse this can be configured in Eclipse under Window Preferences , and select General Network Connections . Here you can specify the proxy entries and the proxy bypass.
For example, set Active Provider to Manual, Schema=HTTP, Host=proxy, Port=8080 under proxy entries and localhost, *.sap.corp as Host under proxy bypass.
    Regards,
    Jason

Hey Digit13, having the same problems here, Safari will very predictably crash whenever trying the access https behind a proxy, sometimes even just http. Quite a big problem here at work - nothing to it but to wait for a patch of some sort from Apple. Seems to be something inherent in WebKit (somewhere else in the forums a user reported crashing in OmniWeb as well, I think). For now I have to stick with Firefox. A real shame, Safari works a charm outside, and is otherwise a very good browser.

  • Accessing an APEX aplication behind a proxy

Is there a document explaining a virtual host setup to access an APEX (3.0.1) application behind a proxy server? What parameters should be passed to ProxyPass and ProxyPassReverse? I'm getting this error message:
    Service Temporarily Unavailable
The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.
I'm running Apache on Linux Fedora 7.
    Thanks,
    Art

    Hi Art,
Just to clarify, when you say 'proxy' you mean
another Apache server right? (As opposed to a
hardware proxy).I've got another Apache server on a different machine.
I did but they relate to the older applicationversion
The version of APEX has no bearing on this, those are
settings for the Apache configuration which is
    'transparent' to APEX.
    RewriteRule ^/$ /pls/htmldb/f?p=150:1 [R=301]The '150' refers to the Application Id, the '1'
refers to the page number you want to default to (you
could omit this if you handle it in your
application). The 'R=301' is a directive to tell
Apache that this is a permanent redirect (i.e. it
issues an HTTP-301 response to the browser).John, I can access APEX' root directory (the one with oracle's license) internally from my other machines on the network (http://XXX.XXX.X.X:8080/) and I'm trying to access it from outside before I create any application. Below are my settings. With or without a rewrite part, I'm getting this error: Service Temporarily Unavailable.
For a rewrite part, I've tried:
    RewriteRule ^/$ /pls/htmldb[R=301]
    RewriteRule ^/$ /pls/apex [R=301]
    RewriteRule ^/$ /pls [R=301]
    RewriteRule ^/$ /apex [R=301]
    RewriteRule ^/$ / [R=301]
    <VirtualHost XXX.XXX.X.X:80>
    ServerName www.abc.com
    ProxyPreserveHost On
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteRule ^/$ /pls/htmldb/ [R=301]
    ProxyPass / http://XXX.XXX.X.X:8080/
    ProxyPassReverse / http://XXX.XXX.X.X:8080/
    </VirtualHost>
    What am I missing?
    Thanks,
    Art

  • Running JSPs through Apache Jserv in OC4J

    hello there -
I'm hoping someone can help me.
I want index.jsp, our first page, to ACT like a JSP, rather than the current HTML. It seems that httpd.conf wont access OC4J, so i've attempted to access Jserv. Still, things wont work.
If someone could please take a look at what i have so far in httpd.conf, more specifically, near the bottom where i've opened up Jserv, and let me know what i'm doing wrong, i'd greatly appreciate it!
    ## httpd.conf -- Apache HTTP server configuration file
    # Based upon the NCSA server configuration files originally by Rob McCool.
    # This is the main Apache server configuration file. It contains the
    # configuration directives that give the server its instructions.
    # See <URL:http://www.apache.org/docs/> for detailed information about
    # the directives.
    # Do NOT simply read the instructions in here without understanding
    # what they do. They're here only as hints or reminders. If you are unsure
    # consult the online docs. You have been warned.
    # After this file is processed, the server will look for and process
    # /devl/ics3/devl/apache/srm.conf and then /devl/ics3/devl/apache/access.conf
    # unless you have overridden these with ResourceConfig and/or
    # AccessConfig directives here.
    # The configuration directives are grouped into three basic sections:
    # 1. Directives that control the operation of the Apache server process as a
    # whole (the 'global environment').
    # 2. Directives that define the parameters of the 'main' or 'default' server,
    # which responds to requests that aren't handled by a virtual host.
    # These directives also provide default values for the settings
    # of all virtual hosts.
    # 3. Settings for virtual hosts, which allow Web requests to be sent to
    # different IP addresses or hostnames and have them handled by the
    # same Apache server process.
    # Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many
    # of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the
    # server will use that explicit path. If the filenames do not begin
    # with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so "logs/foo.log"
    # with ServerRoot set to "/usr/local/apache" will be interpreted by the
    # server as "/usr/local/apache/logs/foo.log".
    ### Section 1: Global Environment
    # The directives in this section affect the overall operation of Apache,
    # such as the number of concurrent requests it can handle or where it
    # can find its configuration files.
    # ServerType is either inetd, or standalone. Inetd mode is only supported on
    # Unix platforms.
    ServerType standalone
    # ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's
    # configuration, error, and log files are kept.
    # NOTE! If you intend to place this on an NFS (or otherwise network)
    # mounted filesystem then please read the LockFile documentation
    # (available at <URL:http://www.apache.org/docs/mod/core.html#lockfile>);
    # you will save yourself a lot of trouble.
    # Do NOT add a slash at the end of the directory path.
    ServerRoot "/oraapp/9iAS10220/home/Apache/Apache"
    # The LockFile directive sets the path to the lockfile used when Apache
    # is compiled with either USE_FCNTL_SERIALIZED_ACCEPT or
    # USE_FLOCK_SERIALIZED_ACCEPT. This directive should normally be left at
    # its default value. The main reason for changing it is if the logs
    # directory is NFS mounted, since the lockfile MUST BE STORED ON A LOCAL

    # server processes you need, Apache dynamically adapts to the load it

    # handle the current load, plus a few spare servers to handle transient

    # Netscape browser).
    # It does this by periodically checking how many servers are waiting

    # The directives in this section set up the values used by the 'main'

    # <VirtualHost> definition. These values also provide defaults for

    # All of these directives may appear inside <VirtualHost> containers,
    # in which case these default settings will be overridden for the
    # virtual host being defined.
    # If your ServerType directive (set earlier in the 'Global Environment'

    # avoid the ambiguity with the common suffix for perl scripts.

    ### Section 3: Virtual Hosts
    # VirtualHost: If you want to maintain multiple domains/hostnames on your
    # machine you can setup VirtualHost containers for them. Most configurations
    # use only name-based virtual hosts so the server doesn't need to worry about
    # IP addresses. This is indicated by the asterisks in the directives below.
    # Please see the documentation at <URL:http://www.apache.org/docs/vhosts/>
    # for further details before you try to setup virtual hosts.
    # You may use the command line option '-S' to verify your virtual host
    # configuration.
    # If you want to use name-based virtual hosts you need to define at
    # least one IP address (and port number) for them.
    # Use name-based virtual hosting.
    #NameVirtualHost 12.34.56.78:80
    #NameVirtualHost 12.34.56.78

    # Set various options for the SSL engine.
    # o FakeBasicAuth:
    # Translate the client X.509 into a Basic Authorisation. This means that
    # the standard Auth/DBMAuth methods can be used for access control. The
    # user name is the `one line' version of the client's X.509 certificate.
    # Note that no password is obtained from the user. Every entry in the user
    # file needs this password: `xxj31ZMTZzkVA'.
    # o ExportCertData:
    # This exports two additional environment variables: SSL_CLIENT_CERT and
    # SSL_SERVER_CERT. These contain the PEM-encoded certificates of the
    # server (always existing) and the client (only existing when client
    # authentication is used). This can be used to import the certificates
    # into CGI scripts.
    # o StdEnvVars:
    # This exports the standard SSL/TLS related `SSL_*' environment variables.
    # Per default this exportation is switched off for performance reasons,
    # because the extraction step is an expensive operation and is usually
    # useless for serving static content. So one usually enables the
    # exportation for CGI and SSI requests only.
    # o CompatEnvVars:
    # This exports obsolete environment variables for backward compatibility
    # to Apache-SSL 1.x, mod_ssl 2.0.x, Sioux 1.0 and Stronghold 2.x. Use this
    # to provide compatibility to existing CGI scripts.
    # o StrictRequire:
    # This denies access when "SSLRequireSSL" or "SSLRequire" applied even
    # under a "Satisfy any" situation, i.e. when it applies access is denied
    # and no other module can change it.

    # The safe and default but still SSL/TLS standard compliant shutdown
    # approach is that mod_ssl sends the close notify alert but doesn't wait for
    # the close notify alert from client. When you need a different shutdown
    # approach you can use one of the following variables:
    # o ssl-unclean-shutdown:
    # This forces an unclean shutdown when the connection is closed, i.e. no
    # SSL close notify alert is send or allowed to received. This violates
    # the SSL/TLS standard but is needed for some brain-dead browsers. Use
    # this when you receive I/O errors because of the standard approach where
    # mod_ssl sends the close notify alert.
    # o ssl-accurate-shutdown:
    # This forces an accurate shutdown when the connection is closed, i.e. a
    # SSL close notify alert is send and mod_ssl waits for the close notify
    # alert of the client. This is 100% SSL/TLS standard compliant, but in
    # practice often causes hanging connections with brain-dead browsers. Use
    # this only for browsers where you know that their SSL implementation
    # works correctly.
    # Notice: Most problems of broken clients are also related to the HTTP
    # keep-alive facility, so you usually additionally want to disable
    # keep-alive for those clients, too. Use variable "nokeepalive" for this.

    Weird ... that works.
So, I created the dummy account which was also failing as follows:
    create user newuser identified by oracle;
grant developer_role to newuser; This fails, but only from a Form running under OC4J, until I run:
ALTER SYSTEM SET sec_case_sensitive_logon = FALSE scope = MEMORY;While I've made this change in our development database, I don't really want to do the same eventually in PROD. I'd rather figure out what's changed about how OC4J connects, find a rememdy there, and set this back to TRUE.
Since I didn't create the username or password as a string literal (to ensure lowercasing), I'm confused as to what's happening. When the init parm is set to TRUE, when the dialog box pops up for the form after the invalid username/password error, I tried entering the password in all lowercase, and then in all uppercase, to no effect. Both fail.

  • Configure FMS behind a proxy

    Hello,
I've a problem to configure FMS Streaming 4.5 on an Ubuntu 10.04 Server.
I've got a website and a FMS on the same server who is behind a proxy (not on the same server)
    Server IP : 192.168.0.2
    Proxy IP : 192.168.0.254
FMS is configure to listen to port 1935 in fms.ini
    # This section contains configurable parameters in Adaptor.xml #
    # IP address and port(s) Flash Media Server should listen on
    # For example:
    #    ADAPTOR.HOSTPORT = :1935,80
    ADAPTOR.HOSTPORT = :1935
    Apache  listens on port 80
    Apache wasn't installed with FMS, it's pre-installed
    This is my Virtual conf
    NameVirtualHost 192.168.0.2:80
    <VirtualHost 192.168.0.2:80>
    ServerName mydomain.com
    DocumentRoot /var/www/html/
    </VirtualHost>
Ports 80 1111 and 1935 are opened on my server
    # RTMP Streaming
    iptables -t filter -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 1935 -j ACCEPT
    iptables -t filter -A INPUT -p udp --dport 1935 -j ACCEPT
    iptables -t filter -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 1111 -j ACCEPT
    iptables -t filter -A OUTPUT -p tcp --dport 1935 -j ACCEPT
    iptables -t filter -A OUTPUT -p udp --dport 1935 -j ACCEPT
    iptables -t filter -A OUTPUT -p tcp --dport 1111 -j ACCEPT
On the proxy server (use Apache), ports 80, 11, 1935 are opened in the firewall (output, input and forward) and the proxy makes a NAT translation to my website.
But I can't see the videos on my website
If i test on a machine behind the proxy, the streaming is OK, i see my videos.
I don't know how to solve this problem. I've got only one IP on my server.
    What is the best solution,
    Thanks for your help

    Here is the flash tutorial:http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/408/kb408205.html
Without a proxy, it connect locally using the 1935 port.
I'm also able to connect from the external network to my local network using the same port.  The firewall is configured to accept incoming rtmp connection
But as soon i use a proxy, the connection fail.

  • OC4J behind apache

    Hi All,
OC4J and Apache can both be used as Web Servers. OC4J contains
its own Web server, but as per OC4J documentations it is
recommended that you configure for handling J2EE applications
behind Apache. Is there any advantage in using Apache for
processing proxy requests instead of OC4J?
    can anyone reply?
    Regards,
    Yogavelan

Another reason is for ModPLSQL which can only be accessed from
Apache. You could use DB Prism 1.2.1/2.0.0 with OC4J to replace
mod_plsql with a complete servlet technology, but with other
features such as calling PLSQL code from jsp:include or
jsp:forward tags, integration with Apache Cocoon framework, and
    so on.
    DB Prism is at http://www.plenix.com/dbprism/
A dpls.ear file which is preconfigured as mod_plsql is ready to
    use with OC4J at: http://www.plenix.com/dbprism/dist/dpls.ear
    Best regards, Marcelo.

  • Apache proxy getting 502 errors talking to portal

We went live with our SAP project approximately 4 weeks ago.   We use Apache 2.2 as a reverse proxy with mod_balancer splitting traffic between two SAP portal systems at version 7.0 ehp 1 service pack 7.
In the first 10 days we had two incidents where  communication from the Apache reverse proxy to one SAP portal system was consistently failing with a 502 return code, but communication with the other portal system was fine.  We do not see anything abnormal in the SAP logs.
The first incident was resolved by restarting just the Apache server while the second required restarting the SAP portal application on the affected system as well.
We are currently examining some leads found on the SAP forum and support site but are looking for input from others to help guide our investigation.  The SAP Note 929082 describes a sporadic problem similar to ours except that ours was consistently failing for over 30 minutes.

    Pinac,
    Thank you for your reply.
We have a moderate level of logging turned on in the Apache server, so we can see that connections are being evenly distributed between the two portal nodes.  To clarify the original statement, we consistently get the problem on connections that are using the portal node with which communications have gone bad, while connections to the other node continue to work properly.
We are reluctant to try the solution suggested in the note, because the KeepAlive value in the Apache proxy relates to communications between the proxy and the client browser, while the communication problem we are having is between the proxy and the portal nodes.
One option we are looking into involves disabling all connection caching between Apache and SAP by setting the DisableReuse flag.   None of the examples we have seen have involved doing that but most examples appear to be using Apache 1.3 or 2.0 and so probably are not caching connections.  Has anyone needed to do this with their Apache 2.2 reverse proxies?
The problem occurred again for us last Friday.  We tested by connecting to the portal directly using a browser from the system on which the Apache proxy runs.  Connections to the affected portal node on the SSL port were problematic, while connections to the non-SSL port worked.  The same tests performed from a desktop on the portal's subnet yielded the same results.

  • Problems with Arrowpoint cookies for clients behind a Proxy

I have in a WebSite clients being load balanced using Arrowpoint cookies to a virtual Server. The CSS load balance between three Apache real servers.
I have some clients that are behind some kind of Proxy Cache and I have seen with a sniffer that the proxies causing the problem Re-use proxy to our server connections for different requests for multiple clients.
Then, as I understand the CSS make the forwarding decission based on the cookie of the first request for the first client behind the proxy after establishing the HTTP connection, but when there is a request from other client using this same connection (that must be forwarded to other real server) the request is forwarded to the original web server and fails because we need sticky connections.
I thought that this wasn't correct but I have read some documents that say that this is called a Proxy role as a "connection cache". Then my question is if there is any workaround for this problem.
    Thanks

I believe your problem is that the proxy open a few persistent connections with the CSS and loadbalance your client's request over them.
Once the CSS has associated a connection with a service, it does not look into the request anymore.
The solution is to disable persistence on the CSS with the command 'no persistent' and 'persistence reset'.

  • Running without the Apache Bridge

Recently we decided to try running our weblogic 10.x servers without the apache bridge layer. We used our load balancer to accomplish across 6 managed servers on 3 physical servers. about the same time we started to have issue with clients trying to login the site that was being powered by Weblogic Portal. Could these be related? Does Apache bridge do more than just proxy the requests? Does it supply some sort of persistence that maybe our load balancer is failing to provide? Maybe another cookie or header value?

Typically for Web Applications - requests should go to Loadbalancer --> Loadbalancer proxies requests to Webservers (Apache) --> which in turns sends requests to backend Weblogic server instances.
However we can even have Loadbalancer to proxy requests to Weblogic App servers by eliminatinf webserver layer.
using Apache Webserver proxy plugin to proxy request to Weblogic App servers is more effective - Apache proxy plugin does loadbalancing of requests to backend Weblogic servers , if you are using cluster setup and session persistance, Apache proxy plugin will be taking care of session failover mechanism (it will replicate session information of failed server to other active running server so that user will not lose this session information).
By using Loadbalancer to proxy requests to Weblogic servers you might be achieving loadbalancing of requests, but it will not support session failover & other features of backend Weblogic cluster.
    Hope this helps

  • Invoke webservice behind ssl proxy

Trying to connect to a webservice behind SSL Proxy with
    following url:
    https://ssl.xyz.com/is-db/cfc/listingservice.cfc?WSDL,DanaInfo=servername.int.com
if i open this url direct i got a clean XML Page, but if i
use it in a cfinfoke statement i get following error
Could not generate stub objects for web service invocation.
    Name:
    https://ssl.xyz.com/is-db/cfc/listingservice.cfc?WSDL,DanaInfo=servername.int.com.
    WSDL:
    https://ssl.xyz.com/is-db/cfc/listingservice.cfc?WSDL,DanaInfo=servername.int.com.
    org.xml.sax.SAXException: Fatal Error: URI=null Line=15: The
element type "link" must be terminated by the matching end-tag "".
It is recommended that you use a web browser to retrieve and
examine the requested WSDL document for correctness. If the
requested WSDL document can't be retrieved or it is dynamically
generated, it is likely that the target web service has programming
    errors.
anyone got an idee about that
    Daniel

We had the same problem. Our work around involved saving the
WSDL locally and then using that to run the web service. As long as
the WSDL contains a service port element, it will still send the
    data to the correct server.
In order to ensure that the WSDL stayed up to date, we have a
scheduled task that hits the server and downloads the WSDL on a
regular basis. Of course, CFHTTP has problems with SSL as well, so
you need to include 2 custom headers when you post. You should be
able to find them by doing a search on cfhttp and SSL.

  • Session replication in Clustered Env with Apache proxy

    Hi,
    Setup:
    1. Apache proxy configured using mod_proxy
    2. Cluster is set up at weblogic with 2 nodes(on same machine)
    3. EAR is deployed on cluster with weblogic-application.xml as below
    <session-descriptor>
    <persistent-store-type>replicated_if_clustered</persistent-store-type>
    <sharing-enabled>true</sharing-enabled>
    </session-descriptor>
    use case:
user1 hits the URL, Apache proxy forwards to node1
user2 hits the URL, Apache proxy forwards to node2
kill the node1 and user1 click on any link, he gets redirected to login page. No failover us happening.
In Node 1 server logs am getting below exception
####<Dec 5, 2012 8:39:21 PM IST> <Error> <Cluster> <Win2k8SRV-01> <win2k8svr-ms1> <[ACTIVE] ExecuteThread: '1' for queue: 'weblogic.kernel.Default (self-tuning)'> <<anonymous>> <> <> <1354720161810> <BEA-000126> <All session objects should be serializable to replicate. Strange thing i noticed is if comment the persistent-store-type attribute in xml file then apache is able to load balance the request between the nodes else all request goes to Node1( from apache logs). Below logs are captured with persistent-store-type set to replicated_if_clustered. Here the JSESSIONID points to server1(port 7003 which is appended to JSESSIONID).

Let me know if my set up wrong. Do i need to modify any settings related to cluster from console ?
    Regards,
    Sandeep

    Hi Mukesh,
Thanks for the reply. TO check the session data i took the JSP from http://middlewaremagic.com/weblogic/?p=290 for testing the serialization of session data, modified a little bit and added to all the WAR files to check session data of each WAR file. I could verify that all data in session are serializable.
While trying the serialization test, i did change the persistence store type to "replicated" but no luck yet.
But this time i got some replication missed message from server logs.

  • Oc4j behind apache - possible to prevent hitting oc4j port directly?

    Hello -
Is it possible to configure OC4J standalone running behind apache to accept only requests coming from apache instead of hitting OC4J's port (8888) ?
We use OC4J stand-alone (9.0.3) behind Apache (1.3.x). We use mod_proxy to send requests from apache to OC4J. The directives in httpd.conf look like this:
    ProxyPass /myApp http://myserver.xyz:8888/myApp/
    ProxyPassReverse /myApp http://myserver.xyz:8888/myApp/
Therefore, a user typing http://myserver.xyz/myApp will get their request sent to OC4J.
Question: Is it possible to configure OC4J so that it only responds to request going through mod_proxy. i.e., I want to PREVENT someone from accessing myApp by hitting 8888 directly through their browser. Possible?
    Thanks.

    Hi there,
if you specify the host in you web-site.xml (eg. <web-site host="127.0.0.1" port="8888" display-name="The Web Site">
), then oc4j should only respond to requests from localhost and shouldn't be available externally via apache...
all you should need then is to modify your proxypasses like so:
    ProxyPass /myApp http://127.0.0.1:8888/myApp
    ProxyPassReverse /myApp http://127.0.0.1:8888/myApp
    hope this helps,
    Andy
