HP 8610 Scan attached to email on computer

Attempting to attach scans from 8610 to my Thunderbird email client. I was able to do this easily with my old Canon all in one, and can do it with Windows Fax and Scan but HP software cannot find my email client, even though the instructions actually mention Mozilla Thunderbird, and I quote:
"Email as PDF
Use this option to automatically attach a non-editable scanned PDF text document to an email message using a local email client such as Microsoft Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird."
I have tried every possible option and arrangement but nothing will work. Scanning works fine, I can send scans as emails from the 8610 directly but CANNOT get the software to attach a scan to Thunderbird.
What am I missing?
Many thanks in advance.

Hello @dicnic,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you're experiencing issues when trying to scan through the HP Scan software for your HP Officejet Pro 8610 e-All-in-One Printer on your Windows 7 computer to your Mozilla Thunderbird email application. I would like to assist you today with resolving this issue.
To start troubleshooting I am going to have you ensure that your Mozilla Thunderbird software is set as the Default Email Program on your computer.
Click on your Start menu
In the 'search programs and files' box located right above Start type in default programs and hit enter on your keyboard
When the Default Programs window opens select Set your default programs
Click on Mozilla Thunderbird on the left hand side
Next, click set this program as default on the bottom right
Click OK if prompted
Restart your computer
Once your computer has completed its restart please try scanning to email again.
If 'Scan to Email' still fails while using Mozilla Thunderbird you may find this thread helpful. There is a post that lists how to alter the Registry to 'allow' the Scan to Email feature to work with Thunderbird. I cannot guarantee these steps will work for you as there is no HP supported documentation to back up the findings, but other users appear to have luck with the fix. Please only follow the steps if you're comfortable with altering the Registry on your computer. Also, rather than altering the path for Windows Live Mail, alter it for Mozilla Thunderbird. The path for Mozilla Thunderbird should be found under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mozilla\Mozilla Thunderbird. Once you export the key you can follow the listed steps under Notepad to alter the key. I would highly recommend backing up the Registry on your computer prior to making any changes to the Registry. If you do not feel comfortable with following these steps, please do not. I will be more than happy to guide you through some alternative troubleshooting steps should setting the Default Mail Program fail to resolve your scan to email issue.
Please let me know if the steps I've provided resolve your scanning issue. I look forward to hearing from you!

I need to be able to scan color images to my desk top, attach them to emails and send the emails so that when received and read they will be in color.  I know how to scan the colored images to my desk top, but when I go to view them they are in black and white/not in color.  Why and now do I get them scanned in color?  I need to know this sooner rather than later please!

  • I can no longer attach pdf scans to my emails.   It has all changed.    How do I do it now please.

I have always attached pdf scans to my emails veyr easily.   Now having been away for five weeks things have changed and I can  no longer do it.   Please help me to find a new way to do this.   I have scanned a document and can open it but cannot attach it what is wrong?.

You really need to provide some details...
    what is your operating system?
    what is your email client?
what is your Adobe Reader version?
    what means "can not" (or "no longer");
how do you try attaching the file?
    what happens when you try?
also, how large is your scanned document?

  • Adobe 9 attaching pdf to email locks computer

When I try to attach a pdf to an email using adobe 9, it locks up my computer.  I have at least ten end users that are experiencing the same problem.  This is an intermittant problem, sometimes it attaches and emails fine, other times it locks up the computer.  This happens on outlook 2003 and outlook 2010.  The operating system is windows 7, server 2008r2 and windows xp.

Yes Outlook is the default client within adobe.
i have found the fix which is a registry setting change. details below
    1. Create registry Key
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Outlook(if not there, create)
    2. Create String value: Bitness
    3. Set the string value for Bitness to: x64
I hope this helps all thos having the same issue. this resolves the error of Outlook is not the default mail client and also allows you to use thw send to email function.
    Kind regards

  • Problem attaching scanned documents to email.

After scanning and saving a document, I use the Attach function to attach it to an email.  That appears to work, but the document then cannot be opened and an error message appears that says an erroc occurred in opening.  As an alternative, I close Reader and open a new email, then use the Insert function to attach the saved scan.  That works, but doing it directly from rReader would be a lot handier.

  • How do I scan a photo to a file and then send the file as an attachment via email.

How do I scan a photo to a file and then send the file as an attachment  via email.

All of this depends largely on what printer /software you have, which Email client you use and to some extent which OS you are running.
Most HP printers have HP Solution Center which is used to set up scanning, choosing where to save, etc. Once a file/photo is scanned and saved to the folder, open the folder.Select the file and at the top of the window should be the option to 'Email'.
******Clicking the Thumbs-Up button is a way to say -Thanks!.******

Since upgrading to Mavericks, 10.9.1, pictures that come attached to emails no longer display.  There is only a blank space that after about 1 minute, has a small box with a question mark.  Double clicking on the box will open the image in a separate window.  It's very slow and tedious for multiple images.  How can I go back to attached and displayed  images?  If I click on "Forward", the images appear instantly in the email to be forwarded.

    Scott,
My problem seemed to fix itself.  Or, by shutting down the computer one night, instead of putting it to sleep, may have reset something.  Since updating to Mavericks, I always (or usually) let the computer sleep overnight or anytime I'm walking away from it.  A few days ago, I was updating notes for my kids about how to find all my stuff and how to turn on my computer, so I wanted to rewrite the start-up procedures for the iMac, just in case they ever need to.  Well, I shut it down one night so the following morning, I could write down each step.  Lo and behold, the images, etc. are all there again!  Solved, but I'm not sure why.

  • After updating to the current versions of Adobe, I can no longer scan and send emails.

After updating to the current versions of adobe, I can no longer scan and send emails nor can I open an attachment upon receiving an email.

What exactly is "adobe"?  Adobe is the name of a company that has hundreds of software products, each with a distinct name.
You are posting in the Flash Player forum; do you really receive emails with Flash attachments?
Flash Player also cannot scan or send emails.
Finally you give no information regarding your operating system, email client, etc.

  • Acrobat 9 - Attach to email - missing subject line?

I just upgraded to CS4 from CS3. In Acrobat 8 when I am viewing a PDF if I go to the File menu and select (Attach to Email) I am taken to my mail app and an email was created with the attachment and the subject line is filled in with the file name. With Acrobat 9 when I try to do the same thing it does not include the subject line. Is there some sort of preference I can change to get it to include a subject line?
I send a lot of PDFs to customers and that feature in Acrobat 8 is a convenient time saver.
    Thanks.

I have both versions on my computer because some of us have clients with deadlines and can't afford to spend hours trying to find out why new software isn't working the way it used to or should.
I sometimes produce up to 50 pdf proofs a day from InDesign layouts that need to be emailed to my clients for review. It was so smooth to be able to just hit the button, have the pdf attach itself to a new email message WITH THE NAME OF THE EMAIL AUTOMATICALLY PLACED IN THE SUBJECT LINE, type in a small note and hit send. Now, thanks to some coding anomoly in 9.0 I have to remember to hit SaveAs BEFORE I hit the email button, select the name of the file, copy the name of the file, hit the email button, then paste the name of the file in the subject line.
This wouldn't be so frustrating if I didn't literally have YEARS of being able to use that feature. Also, if even half the features Acrobat purports to have even worked consistently I could see tweaking it, but it's been known in the industry since day one that most of the extraneous "features" don't even work like they're supposed to.
Portable Document Format was a brilliant concept and works beautifully as a way of consistently displaying and printing layouts across platforms, it's vastly superior to Powerpoint for presentations when the original design can be created in a layout program. Unfortunately Adobe decided to attach features to it that weren't properly tested so it's clunky to actually use, many of the features don't behave consistently or at all, and people can't create their presentations in it so they turn to Powerpoint because MS figured out how to make it easy to create simple presentations right in the application. Through the years, every time I've tried to use the features in Acrobat I'm left disappointed by the outcome and so now it's reputation as anything beyond a wonderful prepress and proofing tool is tarnished.
Also, on a Mac I don't know what kind of security issues could be in 8.0 that would leave me exposed. I open my own pdfs, files sent by my clients and others that I trust only. How is someone going to sneak past my firewall just because I'm running 8.0?
    How am I exposed?

I have an old back-up computer running Widows XP in conjunction with an HP 5200C scanner.  I have the slide scan attachment for the scanner but can't get it to work.   I no longer have any of the operating instructions.

    Oh ok got ya.
You must be using one of these shown in this review.
    http://www.andromeda.com/people/ddyer/photo/slide-transfer.html
Those are a rare piece of equipment. No, there are no instructions on the net for the prism attachment. Very frustrating HP. I heard they were ok but not that great actually.
So you are asking how to place the slide in the prism and use it, correct?
The only instructions I can find are for a homemade version that works under the same principle.
The key is to place the slide in the center of the scanner but position the slide to one end of the prism so I can get as much light as it can to reflect back into the film.
Look at the example on this web page for the homemade version. The principle should be the same.
    http://www.abstractconcreteworks.com/essays/scanning/Backlighter2.html
If this is what you are asking, then this should work.

  • I want to scan a document into the computer and then download it onto a disc or a thumb drive,

how to scan a document and then download it onto a disc

    Hi SCOOTalong,
The IJ Scan Utility that comes with the printer can assist you with scanning a document into your computer.  To scan using the IJ Scan Utility, please follow these steps:
    1. On your keyboard, press the Windows key.
    2. Start typing IJ SCAN UTILITY. The search window opens as you type. Once the IJ SCAN UTILITY is displayed, please select and open it.
    3. In the Canon IJ Scan Utility window that opens, click SETTINGS.... in the bottom right of the window. The Settings dialog box appears.
    4. Click the DOCUMENT SCAN or PHOTO SCAN option on the left pane of the window, depending on what you would like to scan.
    5. In the SAVE SETTINGS section of the window, you will select the save format and location of the document you are about to scan.
a.) In the FILE NAME field, specify the name you would like to give the file. By default the filename will begin with IMG; you can remove IMG and change it to whatever you would like to name the file.
b.) In the SAVE IN field, please navigate to the area where you would like the file to be saved once it is scanned in. By default, the file will be saved in the MY DOCUMENTS folder, but if you already have the USB flash drive plugged into your computer, you can select that drive as the location to save the scanned document.
    6. Once all settings have been selected, click the OK button at the bottom of the window to save the changes. The IJ Scan Utility main screen appears.
    7. Click the DOCUMENT or PHOTO button, depending on what you are trying to scan. Scanning starts. Click the CANCEL button to cancel scanning if needed. Scanned images are saved in previously selected folder location specified in the SETTINGS... window.
If you find that you need advanced scanning options such as adjusting resolution, brightness, contrast, saturation, color balance, etc. in addition to the options selected above, please click on the SCANGEAR button on the IJ Scan Utility Main screen, then adjust the items as necessary.
Once the document has been scanned into your computer, you can insert the CD into your computer, then navigate to the area where you saved the scanned document and burn it to the CD.  If you did not scan the document directly to the USB flash drive, you can copy and paste the document to the USB flash drive from the save location.
    Hope this helps!

  • Error when using the Attach to Email... Feature

I currently using Adobe Reader 8.0 as well as Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.0. Whenever I try to use the Attach to Email... feature I get a debugging error. It always brings up the Visual Studioi Just-In-Time Debugger. It will create the email, but it will not attach the document at all. I've also tried this on a computer that only has Adobe Reader 8.0 on it. When using that computer, it always gives me an error message naming the .dll file gwmlt1.dll.
I can't seem to find what the issue is with this feature. Any help would be very much appreciated.
Also, We are using Windows XP on all of our computers here. If anyone needs any additional information about this, just let me know.
Thanks in advance for any help.

  • How do you save a jepeg scanned file to email it?

I scanned a document and the mac saved it as a jpeg file in photosmart utility (colorsync utility?).  I could not email it as an attachment,  and I could not save it as a different type of file.  I could not copy the file to paste it as a word document.  How do you save a jpeg scanned file to email it?

I scanned the document on an hp injet printer and it was all automatically done by the laptop.  I didn't use image capture, that I know of.  I don't know what that is, or how to utilize it to scan the pages.  I scanned about 10 pages and they went into a folder called scanner output.  I was able to attach that to the email, but then the email could not be sent.  The email tries to send it, then after about 7-8 minutes I get a message that says:
"Sending the message content to the server failed.
Select a different outgoing mail server from the list below or click Try Later to leave the message in your Outbox until it can be delivered."
