Hp deskjet 5100 can't be found by airprint

SO I just tried to airprint. I got the message no printers found. I have an HP deskjet 5100. I searched the HP site and it seems to indicate that only certain printers are capable of using airprint? That can't be true. Is it? Can anyone help me figure out how to use this great new feature?
BTW I use a timecapsule airport combo and print wireless from my macbook pro. That works perfectly.
Any help would be appreciated.

Why can't it be true? It is certainly true that only certain printers are capable of using airprint. Why would HP want to lie?

Save the file to your hard drive, open it in Adobe Reader and print.  Unless the file has security restrictions against printing, those steps should work.

  • G4 not recognizing HP Deskjet 5100?  Can anyone help?

    Hi -
Having a terrible time. Under a client crunch and suddenly cannot get my iBook G4 to print to my HP Deskjet 5100 (USB connected). I'm recently upgraded to OS X 10.4.10. Everything else seems to be working ok (slow, but ok).
Now when I go to print...it says "No printer selected" (this has always been my printer w/this laptop - never had problems)...I tried "add printer" and can see and select my HP printer...but when I click "add", I get an error message that says "an error occurred..." and also says "server-error-service-unavailable"
Of course, I'm embarrassed to say, I have NO idea where the installation disk is for this printer.
I've already been to Kinko's several times today...and Good Gravy...of the average 2 Macs they have...at least one isn't working...and the other is either occupied...or they are having trouble with their printers. Ay-yi-yi!!!
    Helllllp. Anyone?

  • HP Deskjet 5100 Stuck on Grayscale - Color Management Options unavailable in printer settings

    Hello!
My printer is an HP Deskjet 5100 on Mac 10.8.5. It is stuck on grayscale when printing. No matter what program I try to print in I do not get the color management option, even when checking in the advanced options.
On photoshop it's also stuck to grayscale.
I have printed a test page successfully in color. But for some reason no program will print in anything but grayscale.
I have tried to update the drivers, but according to the HP website/driver check everything is up to date.
    Other information:
In printer options, I can't even check my cartridge levels. I receive the following message: Information Not Available
In ColorSync Utilites, under Devices, it says Printer Mode is: "Gray". When I try to assign a different color profile to it, it doesn't take.
I have done a hard reset on the printer.
I have removed completely and resynced the printer with the computer again in System Pref/Print & Scan
Any information would be amazing. I have checked every forum I could find online,
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
Your printer is not compatible with Mountain Lion, therefore the Mac use a Generic PCL driver which is Black & White driver only:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01856359&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=304431&task...
You may try a 3rd party driver as HPIJS, it seems to support your printer and will more likely provide you a better results than a generic driver.
Be sure to install any of the 3 required downloads before adding the print queue:

  • Error message - The HP Deskjet 1510 Series was not found

I bought the Deskjet 1514 on 19/07/15 and installed it on my relatively new laptop. It worked ok, then I did the Windows 10 upgrade on 01/08/15. I installed the updated drivers from HP for this device. What ever I do, (have uninstalled software, reinstalled at least 4 times, used the scan doctor, swapped USB cables and ports, cleaned the disk...) I just get the message The HP Deskjet 1510 series was not found, yet when aligning the ink cartridges the scanner will work but I cannot do the test scan in the scan doctor or scan anything using the HP software (which you have to do as there is no proper control panel on the actual device). As bought the device primarily as a scanner, I am not happy and just want the thing to work but haven't a clue how to proceed except to take the thing back to Tesco and get a refund and buy a Canon instead... Please can anyone help as the HP support is useless? The printer part is working fine, which makes it ridiculous.

Hey , Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that your HP Deskjet 1514 All-in-One Printer is not being detected via the USB Cable connection on your Windows 10 computer. I would like to assist you today with resolving this installation and product detection issue. Thank you for including all of the troubleshooting steps that you have attempted prior to reaching out for support. At this time I am going to have you complete some additional troubleshooting steps. We will be repeating the uninstall process for troubleshooting today as it is crucial that we have a nice clean slate to work with. Please complete all of the steps below.   Please disconnect the USB Cable from your printer and computer before proceeding.   Step 1:  Remove Driver:  1. Click on your Start button    2. Type Programs and Features in the 'Ask me Anything' box to the right of the Start button. If you just start typing when the Start screen is open it should automatically start typing in the 'Ask me Anything' section.   3. When Programs and Features opens scroll down the list of populated programs and look for your HP Deskjet. If you see your HP Deskjet listed please click on it and choose Uninstall. Follow the onscreen prompts to complete the uninstall.  4. Next, click on the Start button and type Devices in the 'Ask me Anything' box  5. Click Devices and Printers   6. Under the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Deskjet.  If the HP Deskjet is listed, please right click on it and select 'Remvoe Device' or 'Delete' 7. Next, under the Printers section in the Devices and Printers window, click on any printer that shows once just to highlight it. Click on Print Server Properties at the top of the window.  8. Under Print Server Properties, click on the Drivers tab. 9. If you see your HP Deskjet listed under Drivers, click on it and choose Remove at the bottom. 10. Click Remove Driver Only 11. Select OK 12. Select Apply and OK under the Print Server Properties window 13. Close Devices and Printers. Please proceed to the next step.    Step 2: Clear Temp Files:  1. The Temp folder contains temporary internet files. No actual files or folders on your computer will be affected by deleting the Temp files. Should a Temp file still be used than you will automatically get the pop up to 'skip' that item. 6. Close the Temp folder once it is emptied 7. Right click the Recycling Bin on your desktop and select Empty Recycling Bin. Please proceed to the last step.    Step 3: Install Device: Please click here to download and run the HP Printer Install WizardOnce the download has completed please follow the steps under the PIW to install your devicePlug in the USB Cable only when prompted by the installerOnce the installation has completed successfully please test printing and scanning to confirm that your product is functioning as per normal. Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. • I recently tried to burn some photos to a disc.  It did not work, but then I ended up with a .fpbf folder on my desktop.  Can't trash it, and when trying to burn again, I get this "... can't be burned because the original items can't be found". Help???

I recently tried to burn some photos on a CD. For some reason, It did not work.  Now I have a .fpbf folder on my desktop. I can't seem to get rid of it.  I tried dragging it to the trash, but then I get a box asking my to type my password it, so Finder can make the changes.  Doing so, does nothing at all.  And when I try to burn another CD from the same .fpbf file, I get a the following message: "There are 35 items that can’t be burned because the original items can’t be found. Skip the items and continue burning?".   When I skip and continue burning, nothing shows up on the CD.  In the meantime, the .fpbf folder is still in my desktop.  I tried changing the aliases on each pic, but it still doesn't work.  Any ideas of how I can remove this folder from my desktop?
    Thank you.

    Beavis2084,
Thank you for your detailed explanation but something is seriously wrong with my computer. Although the method you have described is very similar to the one I tried in step 2 from my second post, I have since "done things" which may have complicated matters—or suggests that my computer has a more serious problem.
    Here's what I did:
1). Installed Onyx and discovered that I had a .plist file (com.apple.iphotomosaic.plist) that was causing a Syntax error: "Conversion of data failed. The file is not UTF-8, or in the encoding specified in XML header, if XML." After doing some research online, I was given the understanding that downloading the iLife update 9.0.3 (I installed the more recent version, 9.0.4) would solve this problem because it would also fix some system issues. So, I downloaded it...and when it didn't solve the problem, I decided to just deleted that .plist file.
2). I read your knew post and decided to follow your directions, even though I realized they were basically the same steps I followed in the 2nd method I mentioned earlier. I say "basically" because, for some reason, after inserting a blank disc, my computer does not open the disc in the Finder. Instead, it places the blank disc's image on the Desktop, even though the Finder's Preferences and the System's Preferences are set to have it open in the Finder—nothing should be on my Desktop! (Note: When transferring the items (all folders) I want to burn to the blank disc, I did not use the Option-Click-Drag method as before, I used the Click-Drag method, which created the curved arrow in the lower left corner of each item.)
Now, for the result of "method 2," the method we basically have in common, the computer goes through the burn stage but, in the verify stage, tells me that it is unable to verify the disk, suggests that my DVD may be unreliable and that I should try another disc, and then tells me about some "fork" (?) error (-43).
I don't know what to do anymore...

When I attempt to add files to...or copy to the desktop of my mac, my icloud (idisk ..the blue icon on my desktop) is giving this error:
The operation can’t be completed because one or more required items can’t be found.

I've been searching for info on that error code, but I'm not find anything on (many different error codes, but not -43).

    I get an error -36.

    Did not fix it.

  • IPhone: Required Disc Can't be Found

Now it can't sync music because the "required disc can't be found" Is this part of the new itunes version? It always synced ok before. Where can I find the required disc??

Just to complete the thread... I had the iPhone connected to a USB hub and apparently iTunes and the iPhone were not making the connection. I moved the USB plug to the computer and everythings back to normal... The 'required disc' must have been the iPhone searching for the hard drive on the G5.

  • The operation can't be completed because the original item ".." can't be found.  Need a fix!

Ok.  This is my first and hopefully only discussion ever!  Thanks in advance for all the help.
I had set up my network and this was all working fine for months.  Time Machine did proper back ups and I could store files on the drive as well over the network.  Not sure how, or exactly when this error began.  It may have had something to do with the upgrade to Mavericks.
But I can see the drive when I open Finder (which I have named Airport) can then access the directories but will not load any of the files.  If the Finder window is closed and I try to access the external drive again via the network, I am prompted with.."The operation can't be completed because the original item ".(Airport)." can't be found. Also of note...there is no "eject" option beside the name of the drive.
I have found only one solution that was dated in 2008 where someone was deleting volumes from their machine and the instructions were not quite clear, so I'm hoping for some new insight on this issue.  Honestly, I just didn't understand how to do what he said...several have asked him to elaborate but no further explanations and all other links are now dead.  It seems this is a common issue.  I'm aware many people will read this and want to say..."i Have this problem too, when im doing something with windows and other computers..."  There are many solutions for these situations that I have found....but no recent ones for those with ONLY one drive and an airport extreme running only Apple computers.  So guys, lets try to keep this thread for one topic only.  Hopefully a quick and helpful thread with a few replies and some step by step directions to solve everyones toubles.
I even had my router replaced and still the same issue.  Also, the hard drive works perfectly when hardwired to my computer.  So the issue must lay within the settings of my MacBook Pro, OS X 10.9.1.  If you feel I should provide any other information I would be happy to do so!

    Lexvo,
Thanks for the input.  I had to look up what SMB stood for, server message block?  So I'm assuming this is not something I'm using.
Also, this is not a "sometimes" problem.  This is a consistent and reproducible issue.
As far as an update...I dont see an OS update fixing my issue unless something is overwritten, but maybe not.
I think a good point to consider and open to discussion is why does logging in as a root user solve the issue?  What can be done or manipulated to allow functionality with my regular login info versus a root user?

  • The operation can't be completed because the original item for " your drive name here " can't be found

    Hey all,
I hope someone can help.  I am running 10.7.5 OSX currently on my Mac Book Pro.  I recently got a new Windows 8 desktop.  A ceap one running Windows 8.  I currently have 5 drives shared over my home network.  3 are working just fine (the 3 I just put on the network today).  The other 2, however, were previously on my old Windows Vista computer also shared over my network.  My Mac Book Pro had access just fine (I set up sharing on my vista comp) and everything ran smooth.  Today when I hooked up my new Windows 8 computer and put the 5 drives on and shared them via my network, same way as I done before, 3 are working fine but the two original drives give me an error when I try and access them from my Mac over my home network.  They both show up with the correct names but when I try and access them it tells me:
The operation can’t be completed because the original item for “M&V” can’t be found.
M&V is the name of one of the drives.  Here is the trouble shooting I have done:
    - Renamed the drives multiple times
    - Tripple checked my permissions
    - Checked for updates and installed both on my PC and Mac
    - Restarted my PC and Mac
    - Tried Both of my dual frequencies on my netowork
    - Tried hooking up with ethernet cable
    - Changed the user name and password for my shared access on my PC multiple times and put in the correct info on my Mac
    - Tried taking away all passwords (unsecured)
    - My other Windows PS's can access all drives just fine
But still I get the above error.  I have isolated it to an issue with my Mac. I was thinking maybe if there is a way to have my Mac forget the shared drives and I can re-add them and put in my password, I am not sure if that is even possible. I am at al loss on what to do.  Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

I am having the same exact issue and I've been busting my testi-balls to figure it out. I've got 15 years experience in the computer game and still can't figure it out. I see a lot of people having similiar issues, but no one seems to have an answer for MY issue, which is virtually the same as the OP.
    Brand new Macbook Retina.
    Windows 7 x64 Machine.
ALL drives shared with ALL permissions of ALL accounts manually inserted on the Windows 7 side.
ALL other PC's in the house can access the drives on the Windows 7 machine without issue.
Only the Macbook Retina has the problem connecting. Every Windows drive I shared is visible under "network" in finder, but when I click on any of them it gives the quoted error message the OP stated.
PLEASE, if anyone finds a fix for this, let us know!

  • I can't connect to the drive on my airport time machine and am receiving the message: "AirPort Time Capsule" can't be opened because the original item can't be found.

Time capsule has been working perfectly for months.
Suddenly I can't connect to the drive on my airport time capsule and am receiving the message: “AirPort Time Capsule” can’t be opened because the original item can’t be found.
Time machine appears to be still backing up (last backup within the last hour), but drive is not visible and I have files stored on it.
I have tried rebooting everything in order as suggested for other issues, anyone got any ideas how to see the drive again??

    What OS are you running??
It is very typical Yosemite issue.
    1. In airport utility does the TC show up.. if so click it.. and see the summary page which will include its IP address. That is what you are after.
From my screenshot you can see the TC address is 192.168.2.57
It might well show up briefly after a reboot or in ipad / iphone version utility. Yosemite is hopeless. The airport utility hardly works.
    2. In Finder use Go, Connect to server.
Type in SMB://192.168.2.57 (replace with IP you discover).
If it is possible it will request a password.. type that in and DO NOT FORGET.. to store it in your keychain.
This will work until the TC changes IP which won't happen if it is main router.. but will happen if it is bridged.. so you need to tell me the whole network setup.
Mavericks is nearly as bad and the above instructions should be universal except I would use AFP instead of SMB. Apparently Yosemite is now totally Windows oriented.

  • Time Capsule "can't be found" as a hard disk in Snow Leopard

I've had a Time Capsule for a year and a half. No problems until I installed Snow Leopard.
Time Machine seems to work fine, my backups proceed regularly, but if I try to actually mount the hard disk and upload or download files from the drive, I can't. The path "My Computer/Network/Time Capsule" shows up in a Finder window, but when I click on the icon for the Time Capsule drive, it says "The alias 'My Time Capsule' can't be opened because the original item can't be found." I can "Delete Alias", "Fix Alias..." or "OK".
Clicking on Fix Alias leads to the file selector dialog box. If I select the drive, it claims that it is already connected. So the only available option in the dialog box is "cancel".
Clicking on Delete Alias gives the error message "The item 'My Time Capsule' can't be moved to the Trash because it can't be deleted."
Clicking on OK, naturally, accomplishes nothing.
I tried going to Disk Utility and repairing disk permissions and rebooting. Nada.
I tried connecting directly to the Time Capsule via ethernet. Didn't make a difference.
    Help!!!

I'm having the same problem. Internet connection is fine; backups work correctly. But I get a message telling me there's an update I should install for Time Capsule, and when I click to install it, it tells me it can't find the hard drive.
I also can't print, although my printer driver is installed and the image of the printer appears. My printer is connected to the Time Capsule.

  • When i got a new PC and transferred ITunes, when i tried to sync my 3G nano, it keeps saying 100 files can't be found and I can't get my checked songs to sync.  Is it a problem with software or my ipod or ???  I am leaving on a long trip in a week

When I got my new computer and transferred I tunes my songs in my play list play on my computer, but when I try to sync to my 3g Ipod, it only syncs a few albums and gives me a message that 100 song files can't be found.  So only half of what I want is on my Ipod.  I leave on a long trip now and really need the Ipod full of my music.  I've tried reloading some CDs and replacing the old ones on there, but still they won't sync.  What do I do?

You need to copy everything from the old computer or your backup copy of your old computer to the new one.
The iphone will sync itunes content and pics with one and only one computer at a time.  If you sync to another, then it will erase the current content from the iphone and replace with content from the new computer.
The music sync is one - way -computer to iphone.  The only exception is itunes purchases.  Without syncing:  File>Transfer Purchases
If you sync contacts and calendars to a blank computer, then they will be erased as well.
Copy everything from the old computer.
