HP Dv7-4272us hard drive update?

I have a HP dv7-4272us with a AMD Phenom 2 Triple Core Processor P860 with 8 gigs of ram and a 750 gig hard drive running  Windows 7 Pro. I want to replace the 750 hard drive with a 1 TB drive and add a 2nd 1 TB hard drive in the empty slot. Can my O.S. handle this setup and what brackets and cables do I need to install the 2nd drive?
This question was solved.

Hi,
Your notebook will work fine with 2 x 1Tb drives - an example of the HDD caddy and cable you will require for the 2nd drive is on the following link.

  • Hard Drive Updater 1.0 not applying itself

    Hello,
After installing the Hard Drive Updater 1.0 update I've followed the instructions - I ran the application, clicked 'Restart' however the machine stayed on the blank grey screen: no progress bar, no activity sounds
Every time it's been booted since, it pauses at the grey screen for a while, then usually shows a folder with a question mark and continues booting normally. I've got 2 seagate 750GB drives (one came with my Mac Pro, one I bought myself) and a Western Digital 1TB drive; the system's booting off a 750GB seagate drive.
    Does anyone have any ideas?

    jaghul,
You might try looking in the System Preferences under Startup Disk and select or reselect your startup drive and then restart to see if that helps. I had a similar issue and that worked for me.

  • Pravilion dv7 series hard drive replaced after recovery disc fail

I tried to use the recovery portion of my hard drive when my Pavilion dv7-4173 US laptop failed to operate.  After trying the recovery portion of the hard drive several times I got a error message saying the bootmgr was missing. I Tried using  the Recovery disks I had made at the store I purchased the computer before taking it home and they failed. They worked  up to 32% and then stopped.  I took the laptop and the Recovery discs (6 discs)  to another retail store's tech department. After several days I was told the Recovery Disc where no good/damaged. When I contacted the purchased store I was told  I needed to bring in the laptop and recovery discs. They replaced the hard drive, saying that was the problem, but did not partition it. They decided to up graded the OS system from Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit to Windows 7 Professional 64 bit., but did not try the Recovery Discs. Can I use the Recovery Disc they made me, if the are good, to restore the laptop back to factory fresh?  I know it will place Windows 7 Home OS system back on the computer, but I'd like all the programs back that came with computer. Will I be able to upgrade the OS to Professional? I have the Windows 7 Professional disc.  If my recovery disc will not work, can I use  the Recovery Disc, only 2 discs as opposed to 6, that I can purchase from HP and then upgrade to Professional?

Hello skip61.  I want to make sure I understand.  A shop replaced the hard drive for you and installed Windows 7 Profession 64-bit in the process.  They also replaced your bad recovery media with a new set of Windows 7 Profession recovery discs.  is this correct?
If you want the notebook to revert back to the factory defaults you will need a set of discs from HP directly.  This will properly partition the hard drive and set the notebook back up with Windows 7 Home and the software that came with the notebook.
You can upgrade your version of Windows 7 at any time you'd like.  This is a feature built into Windows itself.  So check out this Microsoft article on how to update.
To order a set of recovery discs from HP just give them a call.  The number is 1-800-474-6836 for the US/Canada.  If you're outside of this area check this site to get your region's contact information.
I hope this is helpful; have a great weekend!

  • Help! how to apply Seagate hard-drive update from DVD drive on G4 Powermac

    Short version of story:
Just put Sonnet PCI SATA card in G4 Digital Audio Powermac running Tiger. Have replaced two IDE drives with *Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1 TB hard drive*. It's recognized and working fine. EXCEPT: this is the now infamous drive ST31000340AS that WILL most certainly fail if it does not get the firmware update that Seagate has made available. (These drives are failing like crazy-- Google for info, do not buy!) I have the firmware update on CD as an ISO file (of course Seagate makes nothing that it Mac friendly but this has worked for other Mac users). But when I try to flash the firmware by starting from the CD ("C" key held down), nothing happens. The G4 just goes ahead and starts Tiger 10.4.11. I have also tried holding down "O + F + option + control on start up. I'm not getting anywhere.
Since the drive is functional and it's the only drive in the G4, what am I doing wrong? Help!

I just got off the phone with Seagate who say that while my model numbers are the affected drives, my two drives have serial numbers that do NOT need a firmware update. (Yet!)
However, I'm not feeling very lucky. I took these two drives from my Maxtor One Touch III 2 TB external hard-drive because it was failing intermittently-- "now you see me, now you don't." Not very good for a backup drive! But Maxtor/Seagate is providing nothing for Maxtor One Touch III owners under warranty but another refurbished (as in previously failed) Maxtor One Touch III and asking hundreds of dollar$ for data recovery. There is not even a firmware update at this point. People should be avoiding Seagate Barracuda drives (these used to be the best of the best, but not now) or at least researching them *very thoroughly* before buying.
I guess, the good news is that I don't have to struggle with getting a firmware update to work on my PowerMac. Though thanks to you both I will know what to do if these drives eventually do need a firmware update. The other good news is that I got all my data back by pulling the drives from their enclosure which apparently causes overheating. I violated my warranty, pulled the drives, and got all my data back.
At the moment both of my Barracuda drives are happily purring away in my PowerMac G4 giving that old baby 2 Tb to play with. (I use iPartition so getting the drives recognized on the G4 isn't a problem.) And since I have my new iMac 3.06ghz 24" with all my data backup on WD external drives, I will only use the G4 networked for extra storage (backup for my backup). (I am also using Disk Warrior and Data Rescue II to keep an eye on these drives.)
    Thanks again for the advice.

  • Pavilion Dv7 4165dx Hard drive failure and performance issues?

I have a pavilion dv7 4165dx notebook that was working great until a couple of months  when the performance of my machine started to decrease rapidly. I have performance issues with the machine because it takes 1 to 2 minutes to get from the welcome screen to the actual desktop and another 3 to 4 minutes for it to be ready to use. I already upgrade the memory from 4gb to 8gb but instead of going faster it goes slower and i also did a clean install of windows but it didn't help. Before i have problems it took maybe 30 to 50 seconds to go from the welcome screen to the actual desktop and 1 minute and 30 seconds to be ready to use and by the way i use soluto to tell me when the machine is ready for use. Then last week i notice that the headphone jack wasn't working properly so i contact hp and they told me to send them the laptop so i did, they replace the motherboard and they  send it back to me and i just got it today it got a little better but it still lags on the welcome screen and to open programs. I check the memory using memtest 86 and the memory it's fine, but i check the hard drive with HDD Regenerator 2011 and it show i have one delayed sector. Then i check on hd tune pro and it show me some WARNING on section Calibration retry count( as you can see on the picture below)  so my question is should i be worry and send it back to hp or what can i do to fix the problem i am having with this notebook?

I have the same laptop and have had issues with it since the day i brought it home. I have had it for a year now and am now replacing the hard drive for the 3rd time. My guess would be its your hard drive because most of the issues you seem to be having ar the same ones ive been dealing with for a while. I can say I'm very mad about the quality of this laptop and am in the process of  battling with HP over this issue. If you have a chance go online and look at all the hard drive issues that this laptop has had and even look at the HP forums for this issue it will irritate you and make you wonder why this hasn't been fixed yet!

  • HP envy dv7 2nd hard drive cable

    Hi all,
I recently purchased the HP ENVY dv7-7201sa, and was quite disappointed to find out that the 2nd hard drive caddy space did not come with a SATA cable to connect a secondy hard drive.
I have been unable to locate an appropriate cable, and was wondering if anyone knows where I would be able to purchase one? (I purchased the HP Pavillion version hoping this would fit, but the connction to the motherboard is smaller in the Envy model).
Really hoping someone would be able to help me.
    Thank you very much

update cannot be installed the digital signature for this package is incorrect. the package may have been corrupted or tampered with since being signed by apple

Hi there, I most often find this happens on a Wifi/Airport connection & is a bad download.
At this point I think you should get Applejack...
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19596
After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 5 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 5 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
Is this the one you're trying?

  • Dv7-1240 hard drive fit into dv7-4087cl?

I have a dead motherboard in my dv7-1240us laptop. Does my new laptop (the dv7-4087) have a space for an extra hard drive as the old one did? WOuld the old Hard drive fit into the new latptop?

There is a space in the new one, but there is no caddy and connector provided. The old hard drive will work, but the caddy and connector from the old one is not the same. So you need to find the caddy and connector. HP does not offer it. There is a third party device available but nobody here has tested it. For $40 I say it is worth the try. • Best Internal Hard Drive Update for Macbook Pro 13" early 2011?

    Hey everyone,
I was just wondering if anyone could give me their opinon as to what might be the best hard drive to update on for a Macbook Pro 13" early 2011 model. My budget is about $100, and i'm looking to increase the size of my current hard drive (which is a 320gb hard drive). I know that SSD are out of my budget range as anything even reasonably priced only gives me about 200+ gb of memory. I'm wondering if anyone has had any particular experience with the Seagate 1TB solid state hybrid drive (found here: http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Solid-Hybrid-2-5-Inch-ST1000LM014/dp/B00B99JUBQ). It boasts SSD-like speeds at a fraction of the cost, and its right around my budget, but perhaps its too good to be true? I saw the other thread about this hard drive question, but it didn't seem like anyone had any personal experience with it.
Anyways, just wondering if this one here is a truly a good deal, or if anyone has any better suggestions? Thanks in advance!!!
********P.S. Just as a side note, I'm wanting to increase the storage on my computer because i'm wanting to use bootcamp to install windows, and I want an ample amount of space to store movies, games, pictures and music. Not sure if this is even relevant, but i'm wanting to start doing a little bit of beginners programming stuff, so i want to make sure that i'll have enough empty space on my hard drive to do whatever it is i need to do. As it is, I've got about 62gb in movies, 81gb in photos, 41gb in music and 14gb in apps.....I'm really pushing the limits of my storage......*****************

I have two of those Seagate SSHDs, using one as the internal drive in my primary MBP.  Boot and shutoff times are dramatically less than before (using 7200 rpm HGST HDDs).  In other respects, I have no complaints regarding the drive performance.  I can recommend them based on my limited experience (~3 months).  The $99 price does look very attractive.
Note that when you install a HDD of larger capacity in a MBP, it should be reflected in your backup strategy.  Do you have a backup drive to accommodate the additional data that you will be able to store on the new internal HDD?
    Ciao.

  • ITunes won't open after hard drive update

I recently updated my Macbook hard drive to a new SSD drive. I did a clean install of Snow Leopard and bought an enclosure to use my previous drive as an external drive. Before launching iTunes on my Macbook I plugged in old drive and launched iTunes there.
Now when I try to launch iTunes on my Macbook the icon bounces but does not launch. Plugging in my iPhone does not launch iTunes either.
    Any ideas?

  • Pavillion dv7 new hard drive goes to black screen with cursor

A couple weeks ago my computer suddenly started going realy slow so I rebooted, and it wouldnt boot. Just gave me an error in the upper left corner (I dont remember the exact message). Anyway I took it to a family fried who fixes computers he said the hard drive probably had a bad boot sector. We couldnt boot to it, but he could read from it by plugging it into his own computer like an external.
Anyway we got the new hard drive in (upgraded from 320g to 500g) as well as the old one with the intention of making it a slave drive.  I tried putting in a windows 7 install disk (originally had vista), when I turn it on first I see the hp splash screen, then it says "windows is loading files" and goes to a "windows is starting" splash screen. After that its just a black screen with an arrow cursor and doesnt appear to be doing anything else.
Any idea what the problem might be? Is it just trying to install to the wrong drive? Or could something more serious be wrong like the processor or motherboard that would mean the whole thing is trash now?

  • Does Apple do hard drive updates?

my 1.25GHz PB with an 80 Gig hard drive is just about full. And I am not ready to buy a whole new computer. I know that powerbookresq and Tekserve (in NYC) does upgrades. Does anyone know if Apple does them?
    Thanks
    -dan

The size that you can upgrade is not worth the cost, IMO.
You'll be better off buying an external drive/enclosure from a place like macsales.com and offloading your data. Good to have a bootable backup anyway.
Look for FireWire enclosures with the Oxford chipset.

  • Dv7-2000 Hard drive cable

I have a dv7-2000 laptop, and I have an extra SSD I'm trying to connect to it, but I can't seem to find a source for the cable.  HP seems to use some strange connector, and they don't seem to sell it, even as a replacement for a broken one. Where can I get a replacement SATA cable for a dv7-2000?  I'd prefer from HP directly, but I'd take a reasonable third party at this point, too.  Thanks,John

Did I not say INTERNALLY many times?  USB 2.0's max speed is 480mbps, a full order of magnitude slower than the drive I have.  I'm trying to use this to make the computer FASTER (slightly) on load and retrieving big files, not slower! I would like to inform you that YOU are WRONG.  There IS A PORT/CONNECTOR on the board, you apparently aren't an experet or something. 1) the repair manual shows the capacity to add a 2nd drive in the 2nd drive bay, with a connector shown. 2) I'm looking at the connector RIGHT NOW, as I'm typing this!  There is a 2nd connector inside the computer!  How hard is it to get a stupid point-to-point cable for this thing?  It's not even an active data connection, if I wasn't going to use the drive for something else in a few months, I'd just solder wires directly to both ends for free.

  • Same Library Two Hard Drives updates on both drives?

Not exactly sure where this should be posted, since it involves more than just iTunes.
I have a rather large library (60,000 songs, 350GB). I have this on two identical (manually copied) drives as well as other content such as an aperture library.
The reason for two drives is that I travel a lot and take the drive with me. While one drive stays at home for my wife to use. If I am out of town and add files to the drive and she adds files to the drive at home. what is the most efficient way to make these two drives identical again, both with the updates from each other?

Go to Edit > Preferences > Advanced and use the Change button to set the location of the iTunes Music folder to the external. Then run Library > Consolidate and iTunes will copy the files over to the new location.
Once you do this, avoid starting up iTunes without the external connected, as that will cause iTunes to revert.

  • Windows hard drive update

I am getting a message on my laptop screen upon turning it on that my driver needs updating. I don't know where it's from; but it has a "!" - is this a legitimate windows or hp communication?

I just sent you a pic I took with my smart phone of the culprit. To be honest, I don't feel comfortable downloading from the site you sent. There are too many options and when I pressed what I thought was a free option, it comes up with which option am I talking about?? and what did I pay for it.... So, I am back to square one. I went online with my Norton anti virus and did a scan with Norton erase, no change. It's there. Thank  you for your suggestion. If I figure out a way to work with it, I'll let you know. If you have any suggestions, please advise.
